Did you know that:the Earth tilts at 23 degrees on its axis? (Well it's actually closer to 23.5 and degrees are an arbitrary unit of measurement);2 divided by 3 is 0.666 recurring? (Although if you round it properly it would be 0.667, which is the Devil's next door neighbour); if you rearrange the letters in "The Number Twenty Three" you get "This is all Hogwash"?Isn't numerology incredible? This week we watched Joel Schumacher's 23rd film: "The Number 23", starring Jim Carrey. And we ask, perhaps, the most important question of all - was this film actually a secret sequel to Ace Ventura Pet Detective? We're through the looking glass here people! If you're interested in watching The Number 23 then please recondsider watching Paddington (one or two, they're both good.) We have read some great books together over the last few years. For the first Reading Envy Readalong of 2020, we will be reading The Odyssey by Homer, as translated by Emily Wilson. I'm a weirdo who saves intros for last so my schedule will reflect that. I have allowed for a catch-up week before our final discussion. Last year we had no group discussions and I really missed it, so we will definitely do that this time. Beyond drawing from Egyptian mythology, the Book of Genesis is a coded chronology of ancient Egypt. The Hebrew patriarchs are more than fables, paralleling key pharaohs and their dynastic intrigue. We explore the Old Testament heroes with breakthrough scholarship that unveils a secret history — as well the Egyptian myths behind major Judeo-Christian stories. From Akhenaten to Moses, from Horus to the Nephilim, we leave no pyramid-stone uncovered. Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion has published 30 years ago, and it's still selling pretty well today. Same as Out of Control by Kevin Kelly, the value of the book was proved by time and market. The book explains the psychology of why people say "yes", which is an essential knowledge for you and me to survive in the modern commercial world. The six universal principles about persuasion are not about becoming a skilled persuader only, but also defend yourself against them. Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion
