6/27/25 - Capitalism vs. Marxism: The Battle for America's Future

    Mark Levin Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 28, 2025 98:32

On Friday's Mark Levin Show, the Second Industrial Revolution unleashed American capitalism's potential, driving unprecedented economic growth and creating a prosperous middle class. Contrary to Marxist critiques, capitalism delivered widespread benefits through innovation, producing abundant food, housing, medical care, and modern conveniences like clean water and automobiles. These advancements raised life expectancy and living standards far beyond historical norms, showcasing capitalism's ability to foster prosperity and self-correction in open societies, unlike Marxist or autocratic systems. This is an answer to NYC Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani who said he doesn't support capitalism. When you understand capitalism it's very easy to defend.  Also, there were two big Supreme Court cases today. In a 6-3 Supreme Court decision written by Justice Barrett, the court ruled against universal injunctions, asserting federal courts lack authority to broadly oversee the executive branch. Barrett's opinion emphasizes courts must stay within Congress-granted powers, preventing judicial overreach that could undermine the presidency and constitutional framework. Justice Jackson's dissent is radical. The ruling protects the democratic processes. In addition, there was a 6-3 decision written by Justice Alito, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of parents in Montgomery County, Maryland, who challenged the school board's policy of mandating LGBTQ and related curricula in elementary schools without informing parents or allowing them to opt out. This decision reinforces protections for religious freedom and parental authority. Finally, Gianno Caldwell joins to talk about his new book, The Day My Brother Was Murdered: My Journey Through America's Violent Crime Crisis. ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND THE PULPIT:  1/8  Righteous Strife: How Warring Religious Nationalists Forged Lincoln's Union Hardcover – by  Richard Carwardine (Author) 1799 KEEL BOAT ON THE OHIO The first major account of the American Civil War to give full weight to the central role played by religion, reframing the conflict through Abraham Lincoln's contentious appeals to faith-based nationalism How did slavery figure in God's plan? Was it the providential role of government to abolish this sin and build a righteous nation? Or did such a mission amount to “religious tyranny” and “pulpit politics,” in an effort to strip the southern states of their God-given rights? In 1861, in an already fracturing nation, the tensions surrounding this moral quandary cracked the United States in half, and even formed rifts within the North itself, where anti slavery religious nationalists butted heads with conservative religious nationalists over their visions for America's future. At the center of this melee stood Abraham Lincoln, who would turn to his own faith for guidance, proclaiming more days of national fasting and thanksgiving than any other president before or since. These pauses for spiritual reflection provided the inspirational rhetoric and ideological fuel that sustained the war.

On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, the Senate parliamentarian is blocking Medicaid changes to waste, fraud, and abuse in the big, beautiful bill. House Republicans proposed tightening Medicaid eligibility with work requirements and restrictions on illegal aliens, but the Senate parliamentarian deemed these changes outside budget reconciliation, exposing the bill to a filibuster. The Senate's decision not to challenge this ruling perpetuates Medicaid misuse. Additionally, the Senate opposes raising the $10,000 cap on home mortgage interest and property tax deductions, disproportionately affecting taxpayers in high-tax blue states. We need to maximize tax deductions for individuals no matter if they live in a blue or a red state. Presidents Reagan and Trump's tax policies fueled economic growth. Also, Zohran Mamdani, a New York City mayoral candidate, is a dangerous Marxist Islamist with ties to anti-Semitic and anti-Israel activities. Mamdani's proposals, including city-owned grocery stores, massive tax increases, and refusing to cooperate with ICE, are policies that could drive out productive residents, attract welfare-seekers, Islamists, and Marxists, and lead to economic disaster for New York City. If Mamdani gets elected you will see authoritarian democracy in NYC. Authoritarian democracies mimic authoritarian regimes, using seemingly legitimate legal processes—such as passing tyrannical laws or disregarding due process—to justify power, prioritizing legality over justice or morality. Later, John Catsimatidis, owner of Red Apple Media and grocery chains Gristedes and D'Agostino Supermarkets, calls in to warn that he'll close his grocery stores if Mamdani wins the NYC mayor race. Catsimatidis explains that Mamdani's policies, including massive tax increases and defunding the police, would drive businesses out and harm the city's economy. In addition, capitalism drives innovation and improves quality of life by creating wealth through valuable goods and services, such as grocery store chains offering affordable, diverse food options. In contrast, Marxism destroys societies without producing tangible benefits. Capitalism underpins everyday conveniences—clean water, electricity, advanced healthcare, and mobility—unmatched globally. Marxist and socialist ideologies promise unattainable utopias while overlooking capitalism's capacity to foster equality through social mobility, enabling anyone to rise from poverty to wealth. Listen to the rest of this premium episode by subscribing at patreon.com/knowyourenemy.Donald Trump's rise in U.S. politics over the past decade has been inextricable from his "America First" foreign policy and withering criticisms of the Iraq War, nation building, and both the neoconservatism that led the Republican Party to disaster during George W. Bush's presidency and the Washington establishment that still thought America could police the world. Trump's message of a restrained foreign policy and pledge to avoid getting dragged into forever wars especially seemed to resonate as he ran to take back the presidency in 2024—there was no end in sight to the war between Ukraine and Russia, and Israel was committing genocide in Gaza as Bibi Netanyahu walked all over an exhausted, only occasionally lucid Biden. But less than half a year into President Trump's second term and the failure negotiations with Iran, Israel bombed that country's nuclear facilities and assassinated their negotiators and nuclear scientists—and just over a week later, so did Trump when he ordered the dropping of massive "bunker buster" bombs to try to destroy the nuclear facilities Israel could not.In this episode, we once again talk to executive editor of The American Conservative, Curt Mills, a leading voice of the restraint and realism wing on the right, to try to understand the war within MAGA set off by the "Twelve Day War" with Iran. Why did Trump bomb Iran? Who was he listening to, or not, as he made that decision? How did the various factions within the MAGA movement respond, and what is the state of play currently in Trump World? What was Israel's role in all this? And how much longer will Trump tolerate Netanyahu's constant efforts to get the American military to fight in Israel's wars? We take up these questions, and more.Sources:Ian Ward, "The MAGA Split Over Israel," Politico, June 13, 2025Joe Gould, et al, "MAGA Largely Falls in Line on Trump's Iran Strikes," Politico, June 21, 2025Katy Balls, "Trump is Taking Fire Over 'Forever Wars,' but MAGA's Real Battle Awaits," The Times of London, June 22, 2025Jude Russo, "What Next?" Between 1945 and 1952, ‘happiness trains' transported 70,000 children from southern to northern Italy to live with wealthier families. It was a scheme organised by the Union of Italian Women and the Italian Communist Party in an attempt to make the lives of southern Italian children better.Ten-year-old Bianca D'Aniello was one of the passengers to travel from Salerno in the south to Mestre in the north where she was looked after by a family with more resources.Bianca's life in Mestre was miserable because of Italy's fascist regime and the devastation her city faced in the wake of World War Two. Her journey was nerve-racking as she jumped on a train for the first time saying goodbye to her mum and siblings. What she didn't realise was what life had in store for her in her new life.Bianca speaks to Natasha Fernandes about how that ‘happiness train' changed her life forever. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more.
