Please enjoy this classic line up of 80's and 90's hair metal bands hand picked from Tony's collection by Tony himself. This episode of Open Air Sonar is especially made for all of the Carbon County kids who grew up listening glam rock. Tony was missin' the good ol' days of his mullet and cassette tapes so made us this special playlist and dedicated to our old high school friends from Helper, UT all the way to East Carbon and everything in between. Thank you for the time capsule Tony! This line up really takes us back to 7th grade for sure!

Drei Prozent.

Seattle's new socialist mayor just took office, and surprise—the city is quietly decriminalizing open drug use while telling you they're not. The Police Officers Guild says leadership issued a directive to stop arrests for public substance use, routing offenders to yet another toothless diversion program instead. The mayor claims no policy change happened, but a leaked memo from the Police Chief tells officers to divert all possession and use charges away from prosecution. Meanwhile, people are living in multiple tents on city sidewalks while also getting free tiny houses, shooting up in front of Pike Place Market tourists, and cycling endlessly through programs with zero accountability. Portland tried this with Measure 110—overdoses skyrocketed, and they had to recriminalize. Seattle learned nothing. Is "suicidal empathy" really compassion, or is it just enabling death and decay? When will cities realize that arresting and treating addicts might actually save lives? If you're tired of failed policies dressed up as progressive compassion, subscribe and hit that notification bell. Let me know in the comments: Will Seattle ever learn?

Today's episode brings you a story that sits right at the intersection of grit, service, and the regenerative future of our military installations. And it starts with a spark—one that Angela Czaja noticed long before the Department of War ever cared about cattle, soil health, or regenerative grazing. As Angela puts it: “I saw, even in North Carolina, just this passion that Eric [her husband] had for livestock… this spark about him whenever he was around the livestock… That was just a really special place for him.” That spark eventually became one of the most unconventional, disruptive, and frankly needed ideas to hit the national security space in decades: using regenerative livestock management as a tool to harden military installations, restore degraded training lands, and create meaningful pathways for transitioning service members. Angela joins us today to give the inside view—not the thesis version, not the policy deck, but the family-level, marriage-level, move-across-the-country-three-times-with-kids-in-tow version—of what it really took to build what is now the Regenerative Grazing Open-Air Lab at Camp San Luis Obispo. In this conversation, you'll hear how a dairy-farm kid from Wisconsin ends up shaping one of the most interesting ag-meets-national-security projects in the country… why livestock became a lifeline of purpose during her husband's transition from the Army Special Forces… and how their family's faith, resilience, and service-driven mindset turned a wild idea into a model the Pentagon is now watching closely. You can also watch the short documentary produced by Peter Byck on YouTube here. Enjoy!

Imposante Konzertkulissen richtig in Szene gesetzt.
How French media silence helped false stories claiming First Lady Brigitte Macron is a man to go viral. The unsung praises of France's street markets, which bring people together around buying and selling food. And France's short-lived colonial foray into Brazil. False claims that President Emmanuel Macron's wife Brigitte is transgender first emerged online in 2021. The story could have fizzled out. But pushed by the far right and conspiracy theorists, it's now reached half the world's population. Ten people are on trial in France for cyberbullying the first lady and a lawsuit has been filed against a far-right influencer in the US. Thomas Huchon, an investigative journalist and teacher specialising in fake news, says he and other mainstream journalists failed to address the story when it broke, allowing conspiracists to fill the gap. (Listen @2'15'') Open-air food markets are arguably a cornerstone of life in France. Held once or twice a week in most cities, they're one of the few ways of still bringing people together. On a visit to Paris' Aligre market, journalist Olivier Razemon, author of a new book extolling street markets as "an ingredient for a happy society", argues that they are underappreciated by policymakers and the general public for their ability to create community and revive urban centres. (Listen @20'40'') One of France's earliest colonisation attempts was in what is now Brazil, when 600 settlers arrived in Guanabara Bay – now Rio de Janeiro – in November 1555. The colony, called France Antarctique (Antarctic France), lasted only 12 years, but it inspired other French colonising missions as well as reshaping Europeans' ideas about South America and its people. Tony's season finale is all about hope. Besides ending a short season with songs that inspire hope Tony explains to us how much work goes into making an OAS episode. It is a lot of work and I certainly appreciate it very much. Tony's episodes help our podcast SDBD tremendously, especially on our YouTube channel. There is a lot of work on my end too. I do not just upload it into the feed and put links and pics on the website. I listen to every episode so that I can write a summery, make cover photos and make the YouTube videos. I also fill out several forms dealing with copyright issues on each and every song along with signing them. Some owners accept my usage and some have not. There might be muted a song or two. Then I make the social media posts and promo the episodes on our pages and profiles. With the both of us working on the episodes there is a crap load of work we both do for this podcast with out compensation. Because it is our passion to help create new connections, share the music, the art and the ideas of others. Oka Tony we will see you next season. Remember, the views and opinions in this episode are of Tony's alone and not of the SDBD podcast.
We are taking a walk through the 90's. Not just any nineties, Tony's nineties! In this fashionably late premiere of OAS Tony reminisces with the best as he remembers magazines, vinyl shops and train wrecks. No grunge here though, that is for another episode. Questions? Comments? Enjoying the show? Let Tony know cryovato@gmail.com

Conor Flynn, CEO of Kimco Realty (NYSE: KIM) and Nareit 2025 Chair, joined the 500th episode of the REIT Report to provide a close-up view of how a leading retail REIT is navigating today's complex market environment.Flynn highlighted the resiliency of both the consumer and tenant base in the open-air shopping center space, pointing out that there's been 13 years of virtually no new supply.“That obviously is a big benefit and it's showcasing in the occupancy side because occupancies now are at all-time highs. Even with some disruption from tariffs and some smaller bankruptcies, retailers are continuing to expand their footprint and have identified that the store base is really the best opportunity, and the most profitable, to service the consumer in as many ways as possible,” Flynn said.He noted that convenience and value are “the sweet spot of where consumers are focused today.”

During a recent meeting with Donald Trump, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele pointed out a lesson that Americans have forgotten: Justice for the criminal is liberation for the average citizen. As Karmelo Anthony, the alleged murderer of high school athlete Austin Metcalf, raises hundreds of thousands of dollars while renting a new house and buying a new car, it is hard not to wonder what happened to justice in the United States. Convenience stores lock an increasingly absurd number of products behind glass while shoplifters, thieves, and even murderers receive comically light sentences. Kevin Dolan of the Exit Group joins me to discuss how empathy for criminals has turned the country into an open-air prison.
