The Gore of Battle and the Sanctity of the Dead. Guest: Professor Emily Wilson. The Iliad features vivid and gory battle scenes that Wilson rendered by consulting with combat veterans to understand the visceral nature of death. Homeremphasizes the specific details of how each man dies, often juxtaposing the brutality of a spear through an eyeball with beautiful similes from the natural world. A major theme is the treatment of the dead; the poem views the corpse as the person, requiring those who loved the warrior to wash, wrap, and lament him. Entire books are dedicated to the struggle of reclaiming a fallen comrade's body, as desecrating a corpse is seen as the ultimate victory over an enemy. Stripping the armor from a victim serves as both an economic prize and a symbol of total dominance. While the gods like Poseidon and Hera intervene to support the Greeks, they also remain distinct from mortals by "bleeding" a substance called ichor. These divine and human elements culminate in the pivotal death of Patroclus, which shifts the direction of the entire war. 6

After making seven seasons of the CBBC series, Malory Towers, it's already abundantly clear that Ella Bright is brimming with talent and experience, but Prime Video's Off Campus is bound to send her star soaring in a significant way. Based on the hugely popular book series by Elle Kennedy, Off Campus Season 1 puts the spotlight on the main characters of the first novel, The Deal. Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli) is Briar University's impossibly popular star hockey player who can get just about any girl he wants. Bright's Hannah Wells, on the other hand, is a quiet songwriter who tends to keep clear of the college party scene. Not a likely pair. Plus, Hannah has a crush on someone else.When Garrett struggles with his philosophy class, he opts to turn to a top student for help, Hannah, and the two strike up a deal; she'll help him with his classwork and he'll help her get who she thinks is the guy of her dreams, Josh Heuston's Justin. However, the longer they fake date in an effort to make Justin jealous, the more evident it becomes that they're actually the perfect fit for one another. In the end, Garrett and Hannah fall for each other, and the viewer falls for them as a couple.The trouble is, Season 2 of Off Campus is based on the second book of Kennedy's series, and that book, The Mistake, has different main characters. Behind the Scenes, Rev. Dr. Colleen Hurley-Bates (6.21.26) by Sermons

Jeffrey Epstein's Boeing 727 became one of the most notorious symbols of his operation because it allegedly served as far more than transportation between his properties in New York, Florida, New Mexico, Paris and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Survivors and court records described girls and young women being moved aboard Epstein's aircraft as part of the trafficking system, while Virginia Giuffre alleged that sexual activity and abuse also occurred during flights. The plane's private bedroom, secluded seating areas and lack of ordinary public scrutiny gave Epstein a controlled environment in which passengers could be isolated and boundaries erased. Although not every flight involved criminal conduct, the aircraft helped Epstein transport victims, employees and associates across jurisdictions while keeping the movements of his network largely beyond public view.The same 727 also carried an extraordinary collection of prominent passengers over the years, including politicians, financiers, academics, celebrities and members of Epstein's wider social circle. Flight records have documented trips involving figures such as Bill Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and others, but appearing in a flight log does not by itself establish knowledge of, or participation in, Epstein's crimes. That distinction is essential: the records demonstrate access and association, not automatic guilt. Jeffrey Epstein's Boeing 727 became one of the most notorious symbols of his operation because it allegedly served as far more than transportation between his properties in New York, Florida, New Mexico, Paris and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Survivors and court records described girls and young women being moved aboard Epstein's aircraft as part of the trafficking system, while Virginia Giuffre alleged that sexual activity and abuse also occurred during flights. The plane's private bedroom, secluded seating areas and lack of ordinary public scrutiny gave Epstein a controlled environment in which passengers could be isolated and boundaries erased. Although not every flight involved criminal conduct, the aircraft helped Epstein transport victims, employees and associates across jurisdictions while keeping the movements of his network largely beyond public view.The same 727 also carried an extraordinary collection of prominent passengers over the years, including politicians, financiers, academics, celebrities and members of Epstein's wider social circle. Flight records have documented trips involving figures such as Bill Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and others, but appearing in a flight log does not by itself establish knowledge of, or participation in, Epstein's crimes. That distinction is essential: the records demonstrate access and association, not automatic guilt.
