This summer, the Democratic Socialists of America have mounted their biggest and most successful attempt yet to redefine the Democratic Party. They have defeated its candidates in primary after primary from coast to coast. As its electoral success grows, the organization is confronting big, unresolved questions about what it stands for and what level of compromise is required to become a lasting political force. Charles Homans, who talked to more than 30 D.S.A. candidates, organizers, members and volunteers across the countries, discusses the rise and limitations of the D.S.A.  Guest: Charles Homans writes about national politics for The New York Times and The Times Magazine. Background reading:  Moderates see socialists as a threat to the Democratic Party. Socialists agree. In this episode of Verdict with Ted Cruz, Senator Ted Cruz presents part 2 of his one-on-one interview with Justice Clarence Thomas, covering the Justice’s views on constitutional interpretation, precedent, property rights, the Second Amendment, Reconstruction, and the role of the judiciary in protecting individual liberty. Thomas shares personal stories from his early career, discusses the lasting influence of thinkers like Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams, and explains how his approach to the law has developed during his tenure on the nation’s highest court. In Part 2 the discussion shifts from Thomas’s personal journey to his judicial philosophy and more than three decades on the Supreme Court. Thomas explains why he believes the Constitution belongs to ordinary Americans, not just judges, lawyers, and legal scholars. The conversation explores Thomas’s views on race, equal protection, affirmative action, and the importance of a colorblind Constitution. He reflects on his intellectual evolution, the influence of economist Thomas Sowell, and the personal experiences that shaped his understanding of liberty, equality, and individual responsibility. Thomas also discusses the Declaration of Independence as the foundation of America’s constitutional system, arguing that rights come from God and are protected by government, not created by it. Drawing on lessons from his grandfather, his life experiences, and decades on the Court, he explains why he believes legal interpretation should remain grounded in history, text, and common sense. Topics Covered: Clarence Thomas’s constitutional philosophy and originalist approach The influence of Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, and intellectual independence Race, equal protection, affirmative action, and a colorblind Constitution The Declaration of Independence as the foundation of constitutional rights Property rights, eminent domain, and the Kelo v. City of New London case Reconstruction, the Fourteenth Amendment, and the historical roots of the Second Amendment Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. America might not be at war with China, but China might declare war on America's fast food companies. 8/25/26 - Mark Levin Remembers Dolly Parton: A Tribute to an American Icon

    Mark Levin Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 26, 2026 114:55

On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, we lost an American legend: Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80. The news was sudden and hits in a personal way. Dolly was the quintessential American: grew up dirt poor, she became a success not due to socialism or government programs, but through talent and hard work. She wasn't a political hack and had her opinions, but she loved this country and was a great patriot. There was never any hint of scandal in her private life. She had some health problems in the last years of her life and recently posted basically a goodbye to her fans. She'll be remembered along with legends like Elvis and Johnny Cash. Dolly Parton, American legend. She will be missed. Also, Social Security is in deep trouble. Founded in 1935 as government-funded retirement insurance, it's expanded massively from its original scope to more than 58 million recipients. Unlike in years past, soon there will not be enough workers to pay into the system. It's effectively broke. Social Security is meant to be funded by payroll taxes - effectively, a tax on employment. The money is supposed to be deposited into a trust fund, but that no longer exists. Today's retirees get less benefits than they paid in. And those who didn't pay into the system, like illegal aliens, get full benefits. Politicians are running Social Security into the ground like they did Medicare. Then, why are so many young people socialists? Because they don't read substantive stuff. And not these AI-generated books, but real books by real authors who did their own original research. Young people these days would rather get on TikTok and social media than read a book about America, the Constitution, the Third Reich, the Holocaust, or isolationism in the 1930s that led to Pearl Harbor. Ever see these videos where someone goes to college campuses and ask students basic questions about American civics? What does the Senate do? What is the Electoral College? What does packing the Supreme Court mean? They haven't a clue. This is why education is so important, especially early in life. We've handed education over to the government and teachers' unions, and we wonder why kids grow up loving socialism? Finally, Jeanne Allen, author of "The Education Avengers: How and Why a New Class of Heroes Is Fighting America's Biggest Battle," tells the stories of twelve remarkable individuals who, like The Avengers from the Marvel movie, fought for those who can't defend themselves: children. The Education Avengers took on the Hydra - aka the education establishment, the many-headed tangle of rules, compliance mandates, unions and apathy. These people come from different backgrounds: teachers, entrepreneurs, pastors, parents, innovators and business leaders. They're examples of what ordinary people can do when they band together and don't accept the status quo. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

In Part Four of his "How to Win 2026" series, Newt Gingrich makes the case for what he calls "the American Party" — not a new political organization, but a governing platform built on issues where seventy percent or more of Americans already agree, across party lines. Drawing on eight years of polling by his own America's New Majority Project alongside independent pollsters, Newt walks through dozens of issues — voter ID, congressional term limits, middle-class tax cuts, drug pricing transparency, border enforcement, parental rights in education, and more — where supermajorities of Americans agree with each other, even when their elected representatives in Washington don't. Newt is also candid about where his own organization's numbers don't match what other pollsters are finding — and why that transparency matters more than a perfect scorecard.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Legendary Dolly Parton is gone. She died Tuesday at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by loved ones, four days after she was admitted. The type of cancer was not disclosed. Team Dolly said she spent her life putting joy, laughter, hope, and integrity into everything she touched and that her generosity reached people she would never meet. She donated hundreds of millions of books through the Imagination Library. A girl from a two-room cabin in the Smokies who wrote "Jolene" and "9 to 5," and she still wanted to be remembered as the book lady. Pat and the crew take the news the way a lot of regular Americans are taking it: not as another celebrity recap, but as the loss of someone who felt like she belonged to the whole country. The quiet health fight. The nephew who had been asked years ago to record the goodbye. Flags at half-staff. And the part that landed hardest — she kept working, kept joking, and kept mailing books to other people's children until the end. The Rizzuto Show

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 26, 2026 71:37

We have some explaining to do.The episode begins with Riz waking up to some major news. Obviously, he assumes everyone is talking about the Becky Thatcher, the first new riverboat joining the St. Louis riverfront fleet in nearly four decades.Nobody is talking about the riverboat. They're talking about Dolly Parton. After the show had recently discussed concerns about Dolly's health, the news of her death arrives—and listeners immediately activate the long-running Rizz Show curse. The inbox fills with variations of “YOU KILLED DOLLY.” Riz insists he did no such thing. The audience has apparently already held a trial and reached a verdict. What follows is a genuinely emotional remembrance of Dolly, particularly from Lern, who talks about growing up in a family of women who adored her and what Dolly represented as a funny, strong, generous woman who never seemed interested in punching down. The crew discusses the flood of tributes, her influence, her sense of humor and the strange feeling when an icon dies and suddenly your entire social feed becomes one giant memorial. They also revisit Dolly's legendary sense of humor through her old Letterman Top 10 appearance and a story about her attitude on the set of Steel Magnolias. It's heartfelt, funny and a reminder that occasionally this daily comedy operation is capable of experiencing an actual human emotion.Don't get used to it.Because we immediately pivot to the continuing saga involving the 49ers owner and the mobile-home community that got unwillingly dragged into headlines surrounding his arrest.Turns out the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community would like everybody to know something very important: THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.According to the discussion, the mobile-home park was simply where he happened to pull over during the police operation. It wasn't part of the sting. Nobody was operating anything out of one of the trailers. The neighborhood just had the misfortune of becoming the funniest possible location to put in a headline. Our apologies to Wheat Hill.Naturally, this clarification leads to approximately half an hour of the crew discussing mobile homes.Rafe explains growing up in a single-wide in southern Illinois with five people, where mounted deer were apparently standard interior design. Except his family couldn't necessarily spring for full taxidermy, so Dad would clean the skull, mount the antlers and put the whole thing on a homemade wooden arrowhead.HGTV has been suspiciously quiet about this aesthetic.Lern remembers the time a giant taxidermied boar head unexpectedly arrived at her family home while her dad was away. Her little sister declared it a monster, Mom immediately banned it from civilized society, and now the boar apparently lives in the dark storage section of the basement waiting for somebody to make one wrong turn at night.Obviously, the show wants it for the office. Then Moon and Rafe provide an unexpectedly thorough education in mobile-home expansion. First you get the trailer. Then comes the lattice. Then the deck. Then another room. Maybe a wood-burning stove. Another deck. Perhaps an above-ground pool with a deck around that. Keep going long enough and the original mobile home becomes the chewy nougat center of an entire residential compound.Rafe also remembers winters when the back of his family's trailer got so cold they hung a blanket across the hallway, fired up the wood stove and everybody slept in the main room. There are old Formica tables. Ancient carpet capable of producing immediate rug burn. Indoor cigarette smoke. Storm shelters. Tornado theories. Wind chimes. Lawn ornaments. Shot-up road signs—allegedly. Abandoned farm equipment. Old horse trailers. And a neighbor who apparently kept woodworking after losing enough fingers that maybe the universe was trying to send a message. It becomes a weirdly affectionate trip through rural childhood, poverty and the things families do to turn whatever they have into a home.Eventually, this daily comedy episode escapes Trailer Park Memory Lane and celebrates National Toilet Paper Day, which leads to an important debate about toilet paper being too soft. Then Rafe describes encountering a handheld bidet sprayer with enough water pressure that incorrect usage could apparently result in a medical evacuation. There's also the nostalgic horror of padded toilet seats, because nothing says “luxury bathroom” quite like sitting on a cracked vinyl cushion that has seen generations of bare asses.National Dog Day brings happier territory as the crew talks about America's popular dog breeds, mutts versus designer breeds, and why mixed-breed dogs may secretly have everything figured out. Then the conversation wanders into genetic modification and the possibility of glow-in-the-dark animals, which naturally leads Moon to conclude that Jurassic Park is inevitable and he will absolutely buy a ticket. Finally, Carrot Top enters the conversation because this show respects narrative structure about as much as a raccoon respects a locked trash can.So yes: Dolly Parton, a new St. Louis riverboat, an NFL-owner controversy, trailer-park vindication, taxidermy, tornado shelters, toilet paper, dangerous bidets, dogs, genetically modified animals and Carrot Top.That is daily comedy. We're sorry.Mostly.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Are Americans being overprescribed psychiatric drugs — and could the way we treat anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems actually be creating a dangerous prescribing cascade? I'm joined by psychiatrist Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring for a deep examination of America's mental illness epidemic and psychiatric drug crisis. Using the Lindsay Clancy case as a starting point, Dr. Witt-Doerring examines what happens when patients are rapidly placed on multiple psychiatric medications, experience new or worsening symptoms, and are then prescribed additional drugs to address the side effects of the original treatment. The bigger question is whether America has created a health care system that treats symptoms while ignoring the lifestyle, social, family, and economic conditions contributing to the mental health crisis. We cover the gambit of issues — from SSRIs, antidepressants, and psychiatric drugs to the underlying causes of conditions like ADHD, postpartum depression, and anxiety among women.  Learn more about your ad choices. A new study found that at least 25% of former NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had signs of CTE, the degenerative brain disease linked to head trauma. NPR’s Becky Sullivan says the real number could be higher. The Pentagon fired the top editor and the publisher of Stars and Stripes, as well as a reporter, raising questions about the paper’s independence. The Washington Post’s Scott Nover discusses what’s behind the firings. Plus, Darline Graham won a Senate primary in South Carolina, Pennsylvania reported its first measles-related deaths in decades, and Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz rallied back to win their first mixed-doubles appearance at the U.S. Open. This week, the world mourns the loss of a music legend, but the conversation takes a sharp turn into politics and social issues. The speaker shares a personal story about the passing of a beloved family member, Dolly Parton, and how her legacy will live on. However, the discussion quickly shifts to a heated debate about socialism, immigration, and the future of America. The speaker delves into a recent interview with El Saeed, a politician running for office, and shares his thoughts on the candidate's views on socialism, healthcare, and immigration. The conversation also touches on the Green New Deal, reparations, and the importance of understanding the complexities of these issues. The speaker's opinions are clear, and he doesn't mince words when it comes to his stance on these topics. One of the key points of discussion is the idea of socialism and how it can be implemented in America. The speaker argues that socialism is not the answer and that it's a recipe for disaster. He also discusses the importance of understanding the differences between socialism and capitalism and how they can coexist. Additionally, the conversation highlights the need for a more nuanced approach to immigration and the importance of securing the borders. While consumer spending remains robust, recent data reveals a K-shaped economy, where higher-income homeowners spend extensively on renovations while lower-income consumers trade down at Walmart. Rising interest rates present a critical challenge, slamming the housing market and significantly increasing interest payments on the massive national debt. Lastly, the administration's tariff conflict with Canada is criticized as a major, highly unfortunate, and economically damaging political mistake. (1)

Drawing from his own experience as a Purple Heart recipient and former VA clinical social worker, Adam also discusses the problems veterans continue to face navigating the VA system and why greater choice could lead to better health outcomes. The conversation also tackles one of the biggest debates surrounding the legislation: how to deliver meaningful new benefits and health care reforms while being responsible with taxpayer dollars. Adam explains why he believes modernizing the VA system and prioritizing resources for critically injured veterans and their families can accomplish both.

In Part Three of his "How to Win 2026" series, Newt Gingrich tackles the two hardest arguments in the entire 2026 campaign: the economy and Iran. On affordability, Newt makes the Republican case with specific facts and dollar figures: the steepest drop in prescription drug prices in sixty years, GLP-1 medications now available for $149 a month through TrumpRx, $82 billion in individual tax relief claimed in a single filing season, and concrete steps already underway on housing, energy, and regulation. On Iran, Newt is equally direct — the war has not gone as planned, the Iranian regime has proven more determined than expected, and there is no easy exit. But backing down, he argues, means gambling that a regime chanting "death to America" won't eventually make good on it.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The deaths of Cora, Dawson, and Callan Clancy should stop us in our tracks. But as their mother's trial unfolds, our culture seems increasingly determined to make the killer the victim and the children a footnote. Today, I'm looking at what this case, abortion, and even the celebration of political violence reveal about something much deeper: America has a heart problem. Laws matter, but only Jesus can change the human heart. It's time to guard our hearts, tell the truth, and choose life.Restore the Story Women's Retreat — Join me October 9–11 on the Oregon Coast as we go back to God's beautiful design for His creation, male and female, marriage, and our lives. Naturally, that sends The Rizzuto Show down memory lane to discuss suspiciously easy senior-year schedules, bowling classes, walking classes, movie classes, and the beautiful teenage realization that maybe calculus simply isn't going to be part of your personal journey. From there, this funny podcast takes a hard turn into NFL chaos with the story of 49ers owner Jed York and an alleged prostitution sting in East Palestine, Ohio. The crew tries to understand how a man connected to billions of dollars somehow ends up at the center of a $140 Sunday-morning situation in a mobile home community. There are questions. So many questions. Mostly: 9:30 in the morning?! The conversation also spirals into other professional sports owners who have spectacularly found themselves in trouble over the years, because apparently owning a franchise does not include the complimentary Common Sense Package. Then we move from bad decisions to an actual nightmare: a workplace prank involving heavy machinery that ended in tragedy. That leads into a rundown of some of the deadliest jobs in America, including logging, commercial fishing, roofing, steel work, trash collection, aviation, mining, construction, and landscaping. Suddenly sitting in a radio studio complaining about the air conditioning doesn't seem quite as heroic. This funny podcast also heads to Death Valley, where extreme heat turns a stranded-car situation deadly, before traveling approximately 8,100 feet up Mount Fuji for our unofficial Father of the Year competition. A dad hiking with his children reportedly decided his exhausted seven-year-old could wait alone on the mountain while Dad and the other child continued toward the summit. Rain? Fog? Early morning? Giant mountain? Details, details. Police eventually ordered Dad to abandon the climb and go back for his kid, proving once again that some parenting advice really should not require law enforcement. And because The Rizzuto Show can never stay on one subject for more than the medically recommended amount of time, Fujifilm sends everybody tumbling into a conversation about words that instantly reveal your age. “Videotape.” “Pocketbook.” “Slacks.” “Icebox.” “Billfold.” “Filling station.” “Supper.” Welcome to the portion of the show where everyone discovers they're approximately 900 years old. It's another funny podcast packed with weird news, sarcastic humor, NFL shenanigans, daily comedy, St. Louis nonsense, questionable life choices, and the kind of conversations that begin somewhere reasonable before wandering directly into traffic.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

But, in the 1950's one of America's leading folklorists declared that Paul Bunyan was a prime example of something he called "fakelore." These were tales invented by authors that mimicked stories that came out of oral traditions. He accused Paul Bunyan of being a corporate mascot masquerading as an authentic American myth. True Crime Tuesday Presents They Shall Not See The Dawn: The Manhunt for the Third Reich's Most Wanted with Historian/Author Charles Lachman! MAY 1945. THE REICH IS IN RUINS. Hitler is dead. Yet for the US Army's Counter Intelligence Corps, the real war has just begun. They Shall Not See the Dawn is the true historical thriller by bestselling historian Charles Lachman that follows a unit of American agents, drawn from every walk of life, hunting Hitler's dangerous henchmen still at large. It was a race against time to capture World War II's most notorious Nazis before they could vanish or rally a new resistance. The CIC men were college students, linguists, an actor, young draftees, and refugees armed with guns, intellect, intuition, and sheer daring. Their quarry included Ernst Kaltenbrunner, the Gestapo chief; Julius Streicher, Hitler's “Jewbaiter”; Robert Ley, master of slave labor; and other war criminals desperate to escape justice. Against all odds, the CIC brought them down, ensuring their places in the dock at Nuremberg.Upon the eightieth anniversary of the Nuremberg hangings, They Shall Not See the Dawn resurrects America's “G-men in khakis,” the men who ensured that the architects of Nazi horror would never walk free.On today's TCT, Charles Lachman joins us to tell us who the Werewolves were and set the scene for the end of the European theater of WWII. And pick up immediately with the days shortly before Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun hunker down for good in the bunker.   We also talk about the CIC and their efforts to hunt down Nazis in those precious few weeks after Hitler has expired,  and the urgency felt to round up as many of Hitler's cabinet as possible before they can escape the country or have the opportunity to take the same way out that Hitler, Goebbels, and others already had! Andrew Kolvet (spokesperson, Turning Point USA, and executive producer, “The Charlie Kirk Show”) joins Chris Cuomo for a wide-ranging debate over the future of Trump's MAGA movement, the economy, immigration, Islam, ICE, and the rise of the DSA on the left. Kolvet explains how a college student's complaint about a $20 burrito became a national political argument—and why he thinks Republicans risk making the same mistake as Democrats if they dismiss voters who say everyday life is still too expensive. Chris presses him on whether Donald Trump deserves the same criticism conservatives leveled at Joe Biden when voters felt the White House wasn't acknowledging their economic reality.  Chris and Andrew also clash over Muslim immigration and the role of Christianity in America, debate the Trump administration's immigration crackdown and the use of force by ICE, and examine whether Democrats are moving toward their own political transformation. Kolvet argues that the DSA could mount the same kind of “hostile takeover” of the Democratic establishment that MAGA carried out on the Republican Party, while Chris questions whether the movement's most extreme positions actually represent where Democratic voters are headed. They also discuss conspiracy culture and social media, including the attacks Kolvet and others at Turning Point faced after Charlie Kirk's death and why he believes online incentives are pushing Americans toward increasingly baseless conclusions. In this episode of Selective Ignorance, Mandii B is joined by super producer A-King and headline king Jason “Jah” Lee for a wide-ranging conversation spanning Atlanta culture, policing, politics, infrastructure, race, hip-hop, gender identity, and the WNBA. After previewing the episode’s biggest stories [ 00:38 ], the crew catches up on their weekends [ 02:43 ] before debating Atlanta’s dining scene, happy-hour culture, restaurant service, and food experiences [ 03:26 ]. Jah’s “Ignorant Thought” turns serious as he reacts to reports about the death in prison of the former officer who shot Sonya Massey, prompting a larger conversation about policing, accountability, and Elon Musk’s suggestion that Derek Chauvin should be released [ 06:20 ]. From there, a discussion about recent food safety scares and beef consumption briangs the crew back to what—and where—they’re willing to eat [ 09:27 ]. In “This Is America,” the hosts spotlight Gary, Indiana, where residents in a largely Black community have faced an extended power outage following severe storms [ 13:02 ]. The crew connects the crisis to larger questions about aging infrastructure, disaster response, environmental inequality, government responsibility, and which communities receive urgency when essential services fail, while encouraging support for residents in need [ 16:28 ]. Politics takes center stage as they react to comments from Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon about taking her children to drag shows [ 24:46 ], debating political strategy and whether certain public positions help or hurt candidates in contentious elections [ 28:39 ]. The conversation expands into who actually attends drag shows and why [ 33:11 ], an explanation and debate around the term cisgender [ 34:43 ], and the importance of context when discussing drag performances, children, LGBTQ+ issues, and adult entertainment [ 37:37 ]. They then zoom back out to Florida politics, progressive movements, and the Democratic Socialists of America [ 40:31 ], before taking a lighter detour into beards, appearances, and “hat fishing” [ 44:30 ]. The conversation returns to crime and race as the crew examines reports of an alleged Penn State fraternity cocaine distribution operation [ 47:48 ], questioning whether similar allegations involving Black defendants would be framed as a gang, conspiracy, or RICO case and exploring racial disparities in the language used around criminal activity [50:30 ]. They also discuss fentanyl risks, drug surveillance, and the dangers surrounding today’s illicit drug supply [ 55:20 ]. From there, the hosts react to Master P’s comments about Black people “harping on slavery,”debating historical memory, generational trauma, accountability, opportunity, and whether acknowledging systemic barriers is incompatible with pursuing progress [ 57:06 ]. Hip-hop becomes the focus as the crew explains why J. Cole’s current tour feels culturally significant [ 01:06:53 ], particularly in an era without the same ecosystem of music blogs and media outlets that once documented rap in real time [ 01:08:10 ]. That leads into a broader discussion about whether hip-hop is experiencing a reset and what the culture needs from artists, audiences, and media moving forward [ 01:09:29 ]. The final stretch tackles another viral culture debate as Mandii, A-King, and Jah react to backlash surrounding a Matt Matthews and Kandi Burruss clip involving pronouns [ 01:10:23 ] and dive into the comment section to examine how social media amplifies cultural misunderstandings and outrage [ 01:13:42 ]. The discussion expands into transphobia, identity, language, and accusations of using a “blaccent” [ 01:19:52 ], before the crew condemns the disturbing trend of people throwing sex toys onto the court during WNBA games [ 01:27:33 ]. They react to Joy Taylor calling out the behavior [ 01:29:07 ] and question what leagues, arenas, and fans should expect when it comes to security, consequences, player safety, and basic respect for women athletes [ 01:35:07 ]. The crew closes with final thoughts and credits [ 01:40:12 ], wrapping an episode that connects politics, race, public safety, hip-hop culture, LGBTQ+ discourse, and women’s sports through the signature humor and debate of Selective Ignorance.
