Sixty days. $25 billion. No open Strait of Hormuz, no enriched uranium recovered, no regime change, and gas prices up 42% since late February. That's the scoreboard on Iran, and it's the backdrop for Pete Hegseth's first real hearing — where combat veterans Seth Moulton and Pat Ryan finally put the Secretary of Defense through the wringer. Paul Rieckhoff joins the conversation to break down what oversight looks like when it actually shows up, why JD Vance and Dan Driscoll are watching, and why this war is metastasizing into something bigger than Iran. From Marco Rubio floating strikes on Cuba to Trump leaning on Putin as a peacemaker, this is forever war logic dressed up in new packaging — all gas, no brakes, no congressional authorization, and no plus-up for the VA to care for the next generation of veterans it'll create. Paul also unpacks the Comey indictment, the chilling effect on Jimmy Kimmel and the free press, and why the King of England sounded more like Reagan on alliances than the current administration. If you're in the angry middle and tired of the rigged two-party system handing you half-cooked wars and culture-war theater, this is your no-BS briefing. -WATCH full video of this episode here. -Ditch your expensive carrier and support Independent Americans! David Sacks has played a key role in shaping AI policy for the Trump administration. He was formerly the White House AI and crypto czar. Now, he's the co-chair of the President's Co-Chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.  Sacks approaches the issue with a “let them cook” philosophy. Meaning, he thinks the way for the United States to win the global AI race is to move fast with minimally disruptive regulation. But with that comes a lot of questions about AI disruption to the workforce, who should be held responsible for harm caused by AI platforms, and the fear and division within America over the future of the technology.  Sacks joins Dasha Burns in a wide-ranging interview to discuss it all.

The Green Bay Packers exercised the fifth year option on Lucas Van Ness — and somehow ESPN thinks that's the dumbest move of the offseason. Ryan breaks down the tape, the cap math, and the logic (or lack thereof) behind the wave of criticism coming from multiple ESPN Milwaukee and Madison personalities who seem convinced the Packers just made a catastrophic mistake. The $14 million myth: Ryan methodically dismantles the idea that Van Ness' fifth year option is some massive, reckless investment — when the top pass rusher in the NFL is making $50 million a year, this is literally bottom-third money for a legitimate contributor The sack obsession: ESPN's analysts lean entirely on Van Ness' three sack total while ignoring his 15% pressure rate, 76 PFF overall grade, and the fact he played only 300 snaps — Ryan does the math they refused to do The Rashawn Gary false equivalence: One ESPN host tries to draw a parallel between Gary's contract situation and Van Ness' option — Ryan explains why that comparison falls apart completely when you look at actual dollar figures adjusted for the salary cap The "stuck with him" problem: Multiple analysts framed the decision as the Packers being "stuck" with Van Ness — Ryan makes the case that losing him would be far more damaging than any cap concerns at this price point What's actually coming next: Why this fifth year option is just the setup for a contract extension that will make more sense structurally, and why Gutekunst was always going to do this Subscribe, leave a review, and join the conversation — and catch Packernet After Dark tonight for the call-in reaction! #Packers #LucasVanNess #GoPackGo #NFLAnalysis #GreenBayPackers #PackNation #NFLSalaryCap This episode is brought to you by PrizePicks! What followed was an hour of Gary tracing his own formation from a kid on Union Road in Midland who couldn't stop staring at the crucifix, through graduate school, liberation theology, democratic socialism, and fifty years of theological labor held together by Rauschenbusch's conviction that capitalism has overdeveloped our selfish instincts and shrunk our capacity for public ends. Alexander is a non-white female with one White parent and one non-white parent. Despite 15 years of institutional celebration, Gus T. anticipates this being one of the 5 Worst Books Ever. Racists generally do not promote literature that provides an accurate understanding of the System of White Supremacy. Deception by Omission: Any book that claims to seriously explore prisons and Racism, yet fails to include COINTELPRO, Chicago's Jon Burge, or the profitability of caging black dudes is deliberately lying to readers. Last week's review included: 1. Alexander told readers that "most people in America" no longer believe in racial discrimination. No footnotes, no citations, no evidence to support such a lie. 2. Alexander flagrantly lies to readers by suggesting that White people were considering ending prisons in the 1970s. She deliberately omits the 1971 Attica prison rebellion as well as the 1978 case of 15-year-old Willie Bosket - where New York Governor Hugh Carey changed laws to allow children to be tried as adults. 3. Alexander mentions the resilience of her White mom, but redacts her racial classification. She brags about being a proud African American woman, but conceals that half her genetic material comes from a Suspected Race Soldier. 4. Alexander briefly discusses the "conspiracy theory" of some people thinking the CIA deliberately sold drugs to black people to decimate the population. She "emphasizes" that there's no evidence to support this conclusion while not mentioning Gary Webb's work in the body of the text. She doesn't even cite his book in the footnotes. #COINTELPRO # #TheCOWS17Years INVEST in The COWS – [http://paypal.me/TheCOWS](http://paypal.me/TheCOWS) Cash App: [https://cash.app/$TheCOWS](https://cash.app/$TheCOWS) CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

Send us Fan MailThis program was previously aired on 12/13/2025GUEST: PASTOR DARRELL HARRISON, Co-Host, Just Thinking PodcastFive times each day the Muslim call to prayer sounds from mosques in Minneapolis. One might expect this in an Islamic country like Saudi Arabia or Iran, but in the United States, a nation that was founded and operated on distinctly Christian principles? The founders likely made the assumption that our nation would be and remain Christian, as early immigrants came from Christian European nations. They probably thought future Americans wouldn't be so foolish as to welcome hundreds of thousands of Muslims. But those with an unbiblical worldview of secular and religious humanism have taken power and hold to the spirit of Babel—that uniting all religions and peoples together will make us good and united. That will not work with Islam and its mission to dominate the world. Europe has puts its very existence at risk in bringing millions of Muslims into its nations and towns and now America is doing the same in Minneapolis, Dearborn, MI, New York City, and elsewhere.Darrell Harrison, shepherding and teaching pastor at Redeemer Bible Church (Gilbert, AZ) and the co-host of the popular Just Thinking Podcast, joins us to explain how Islam is less a religion but rather a political ideology of domination and how Christians should respond.Program Notes:Just Thinking PodcastRedeemer Bible Church (Gilbert, AZ)

Two managers dropped this week, but four teams haven't fired a manager in-season since the last century. Which were they, and is there even a point? Then we travel back to 1887, the ill-fated marriage between a Hall of Famer and an actress, her personal gift to baseball, and the birth of a character type whose time has come again (no matter what anyone says). The Infinite Inning is a journey to the past to understand the present using baseball as our time machine. America's brighter mirror, baseball reflects, anticipates, and even mocks the stories we tell ourselves about our world today. Baseball Prospectus's Steven Goldman shares his obsessions: history from inside and outside of the game, politics, stats, and Casey Stengel quotations. Along the way, we'll try to solve the puzzle that is the Infinite Inning: How do you find the joy in life when you can't get anybody out?

Today we are asking for your help from the drunkest county in America to keep this project going. Did you all know that the Recovery Elevator podcast is recorded and broadcasted to the world from the drunkest county in America? That would be Gallatin County, where I am sitting right now. https://www.givebiggv.org/organizations/cafe-re-inc  That's right. According to a recent CDC study, 26.8% of people who live in Gallatin County drink excessively, making it the drunkest county in the U.S. When I first started the Recovery Elevator podcast in 2015, almost all of the top five drunkest counties in America were in Wisconsin. So step aside, Wisconsinites, because we've got the crown now. And it's more like a crown of thorns. I find it ironic — eerily coincidental — that one of the top sobriety podcasts that focuses on alcohol is broadcast to you from the drunkest county. And did you know there are 3,244 counties in America? If you're tuning in from the drunkest county in America, or really anywhere in the world, we've got your back, and you're not alone. I'm going to switch gears slightly. Recovery Elevator has a nonprofit called Café RE, and do you know how many times I've asked for donations on this podcast? That would be zero. Well, maybe the second or third time, but I rarely ask. In the drunkest county in America, there's an incredible event taking place today called Give Big, which is geared towards raising money for all the nonprofits in this county. We need your help to balance the scales in the drunkest county in America, and all your donations are fee-free if you donate today. There's a link in the show notes to make a donation — thank you, Robyn. You can also Google "Gallatin Valley Give Big" and search for Café RE. https://www.givebiggv.org/organizations/cafe-re-inc And if you're in the Bozeman area, Recovery Elevator is doing a live podcast recording today at 1 pm at 2000 N. 7th Street in Bozeman, at a place called Recovery Point. We've got a panel lined up, and that episode comes out Monday, May 11th. There's also going to be an open mic, a hot dog cart, and more. Come on out — we'd love to meet you. One more thing before we depart. Life is complicated, but it's also not at all. What are we doing here at Recovery Elevator? I heard a Toltec shaman once say there is nothing to learn, except how to unlearn. We are coming back together to find our people. To find our tribe. A Lakota chief once said the answer to all our problems can be found by looking towards nature. When bison — American buffalo — sense a blizzard coming, they don't run to the hills. They come together, shoulder to shoulder, and walk through the storm. We are doing the same thing. A drinking problem wants you alone, in a dark room, with liquid poison sloshing in a bottle. But as you already know, that's a one-way street to nowhere good. At first you tried to figure it out alone — that didn't work — and now you're returning to the pack, to the community, to the village. You're unlearning the idea that we have to be self-sufficient and have everything figured out on our own. So life is complicated, but again, it's not. You can't do life — or an alcohol-free life — alone. Can't be done, shouldn't be done, and it's no fun. Keep showing up, keep tuning in, keep listening, and share this podcast with a friend you think is struggling. Here I am, alone in my basement in the drunkest county in America, talking into a microphone — and somehow, you're on the other side of it. That's the miracle of the present day. Community doesn't always look like a meeting room or a church basement anymore. It looks like earbuds on a morning commute, a podcast player at 2 am when you can't sleep, a stranger's voice telling you it can be done. That's what we're building here. But we can't keep building it without you. If this podcast or Café RE has ever meant anything to you, today is the day to give back. The link is in the show notes — donate to Café RE through Give Big Gallatin Valley, fee-free, today only. Help us keep the lights on in the drunkest county in America, so nobody out there has to stay in the dark alone.   https://www.givebiggv.org/organizations/cafe-re-inc

Just outside Sedona lies Bradshaw Ranch—a place where time fractures, entities emerge, and reality itself begins to unravel. Filmmaker Ronald C. Meyer and researcher Mark Reeder reveal chilling firsthand encounters that suggest UFOs, Bigfoot, and shadow beings may all stem from a single, intelligent, unseen force. GUESTS: Ron Meyer is a seasoned paranormal experiencer, with encounters ranging from out-of-body experiences and cryptid sightings to non-dual awakenings. He is the owner of Centre Communications, a film production company, and has produced and directed feature films in Hollywood. Recently, he produced "Becoming Evil," the number one streaming documentary series on Amazon Prime about serial killers. In September 2023, Centre Communications premiered the feature film "The Mysteries of Bradshaw Ranch: Aliens, Portals, and the Paranormal" at a conference in Vernal, adjacent to Skinwalker Ranch. During the movie's production, the crew encountered intelligent alien entities and other paranormal phenomena. The film is slated for release in early 2024. Mark Reeder is a paranormal skeptic and experiencer who resides in Boulder, Colorado. He has served as a writer and associate producer for Centre Communications, a video production company. His educational programs, "Hispanic Achievement in America" and "Women's Achievement in America," have been broadcast on PBS national television. Having navigated the universe for quite some time, he has accumulated his fair share of bumps and bruises. Though roughed up and battered like his well-worn hat, he continues to search for the exit. Energy analyst Isaac Orr joins Brian Nichols to reveal the real reason your electric bill is exploding and why monopoly utility companies (not AI or data centers) are jacking up your rates right now. Indiana electricity rates are climbing almost twice as fast as the national average. Coal plants are getting prematurely shut down. Wind, solar, and battery storage are getting bolted onto the grid... and YOU pay for it through something called the cost-of-service formula. Inside, Isaac exposes the regulatory scam buried inside every state utility commission - the formula that lets monopoly utilities charge you whatever they spend, plus a guaranteed 10% profit on top. We break down why blue states own the highest electricity rates in America. We expose why the map of expensive power looks identical to the electoral map. And we get into the playbook nobody wants to talk about because it's "boring"... which is exactly how regulators want it. So what happens when ideology collides with the physics of how the grid actually works? You pay. $1.4 trillion in new power plant infrastructure is coming in the next 5 years. Residential ratepayers will be on the hook for roughly 20% of it. New York's own energy agency, NYSERDA, just admitted that the state's 2019 climate law will cost households $4,000 a year. .. Plus: His Crazy Car Accident, Comic Books, Letters From Prison, Hegseth, Hampshire College Closing and More! Comedians are under attack. The MAGA machine has pushed Stephen Colbert off the air, gone after Jimmy Kimmel, and skipped a comedian at the White House Correspondents Dinner for the first time in memory. That's not an accident — it's the playbook of every authoritarian regime that ever feared a punchline. Paul Rieckhoff sits down with his old college friend, beloved comedian and actor Eugene Mirman — Bob's Burgers, Flight of the Conchords, and the new special Here Comes the Whimsy — for a candid, funny, and unexpectedly moving conversation about what it means to make people laugh while the rigged two-party system burns and Trump and the executive branch goes all gas, no brakes. Eugene, a refugee from a genuinely authoritarian country, doesn't sugarcoat it: Trump's instincts are fascist, the cruelty is the point, and the use of state power to threaten billion-dollar companies into firing comedians is straight out of the thug-regime handbook. But he also refuses nihilism — America, he argues, is too big and too used to freedom to be wholly silenced, and that's exactly why the work of comedians, podcasters, and independent voices matters right now. Along the way the two cover Eugene's harrowing New Hampshire car crash and rescue, the absurd unqualified men running the Pentagon and the VP's office, comic books as hopeful dystopia, and why the angry middle should keep laughing — and keep showing up. Eugene Mirman is one of the most respected comedic voices of his generation. A refugee from the former Soviet Union, he is best known as the voice of Gene Belcher on Bob's Burgers and as the landlord on Flight of the Conchords, and was a regular on Adult Swim's Delocated. He co-founded the Pretty Good Friends comedy company in the basement of Brooklyn's Union Hall, has opened for The Shins, Modest Mouse, Yo La Tengo, Gogol Bordello, and Cake, and was named best New York City comedian by The Village Voice. This week I'm sharing the third installment from the day-long conference convened by the Institute for America, China, and the Future of Global Affairs (ACF) at Johns Hopkins SAIS on April 3rd in Washington — "The China Debate We're Not Having: Politics, Technology, and the Road Ahead." The first two episodes featured Jessica Chen Weiss's opening remarks and the panels on what China wants and what the United States wants. This week's panel — "Tech, Rivalry, and Competing Visions of the Future" — turns to the domain that, more than any other, has come to define how Washington thinks about the U.S.-China relationship: technology, and especially AI. Once again, my deep thanks to Jessica Chen Weiss, ACF's inaugural faculty director, for organizing this terrific conference and for so generously letting me share this audio with Sinica listeners. Moderator Kat Duffy of the Council on Foreign Relations opens by interrogating the very framing of the panel: is "rivalry" actually the right word for what's going on between the U.S. and China in tech? The panelists give a range of answers — from "yes, because both sides believe it is" to Samm Sacks's pithy rejoinder that "rivalry serves specific actors and specific interests." From there the conversation ranges across the FCC's recent move to bar most foreign-made routers, the pitfalls of framing AI competition as a sprint to AGI rather than what Jeff Ding calls a "diffusion marathon," the many internal Chinas that get flattened in DC discourse, the cybersecurity reciprocity problem (Volt Typhoon, Salt Typhoon, and what President Trump tellingly admitted about all of it), and what it would actually mean for the U.S. to compete by being its best self — what one panelist memorably calls "Americamaxxing." There's a lot of substance packed into this hour, and a lot of generative pushback against received DC wisdom. The audience Q&A at the end takes up the role of race and xenophobia in the discourse — a topic that, as one questioner pointedly notes, had been conspicuously absent from the day's earlier discussions. Panelists:— Samm Sacks, Senior Fellow, New America and Yale Law School— Jeff Ding, Assistant Professor of Political Science, George Washington University— Mieke Eoyang, Visiting Professor, Carnegie Mellon University; former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy— Selina Xu, Lead for China and AI Policy, Office of Eric Schmidt Moderator: Kat Duffy, Senior Fellow for Digital and Cyberspace Policy, Council on Foreign RelationsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Pack Nation, Ryan is fired up — and this one turned into something special. What started as a quick take on Lucas Van Ness's fifth year option turned into a full-on intervention for Packer fans who've convinced themselves that nobody on this roster is worth paying. Buckle up. The Rasini Rabbit Hole: Ryan goes deep on the conspiracy theory nobody is saying out loud — could The Athletic's investigation into inappropriate reporter-source relationships be connected to a sudden wave of high-profile NFL executives "stepping away to pursue other passions"? He wants credit if it turns out to be true. Lucas Van Ness Is a No-Brainer: The fifth year option is a bargain. Van Ness is slotting in as roughly the 40th-highest-paid pass rusher in the league. Letting him walk means handing the edge rotation to Baron Sorrell and a prayer. Ryan breaks down exactly why this isn't a debate. Salary Cap School Is In Session: Ryan pulls out his salary cap calculator at packergames.com and walks through why fans are consistently overestimating what these contracts actually cost. Aaron Rodgers' $33M deal in 2018 would be worth $61M today — and we panicked then too. Stop Playing the "He's Not Worth It" Game: From Jaden Reed to Christian Watson to Wyatt to Tucker Craft — Ryan argues that Packer fans systematically undervalue their own players and then have no plan for what to do with the savings. Gutey himself said "absolutely" when asked if they can still afford Watson. Call in and tell Ryan something crazy to do — 608-501-0718. New callers go to the front of the line. Brick Lombardi cracks open the vault. Four tracks. Four moods. One very bad night for a Bears fan in Naperville, Illinois. The episode opens on the dance floor with GO PACK GO — an electro-pop, crunk-influenced banger built for the club and dedicated to the women who bleed green and gold. Standards are green and gold. If you don't know that, Brick does. From there, the energy shifts hard into PRESSURE — a cinematic, Queen-interpolated meditation on pass protection collapse and the particular dread of watching Jordan Love disappear into a rush. Heavy. Restrained. Honest. SUPERSTITIOUS brings the groove — a Stevie Wonder-influenced funk anthem for every Packer fan who's never spoken their ritual out loud. Same chair. Same hoodie. Same socks. The commentator jinx as a theological crisis. You know the system. You never talk about the system. Brick talks about the system. The episode closes with LET 'EM CRY — a Southern rock ballad. Organ, acoustic guitar, and a Bears fan alone at a bar in Naperville. Fourth and one. Caleb threw it low. Keisean Nixon took it from there. The song sounds like sympathy. It is not sympathy. Big Sal from Peshtigo is in the recliner, meatball sandwich in hand, and he is FIRED UP. ESPN Milwaukee and ESPN Madison — the hometown guys, the cheese curd crowd — are calling the Lukas Van Ness fifth-year option a bust move. Thirteen point eight million dollars guaranteed, and they're calling it stupid. Sal is here to tell them exactly how wrong they are, receipts in hand, like a man returning a busted toaster oven. Van Ness posted 23 pressures in a half season on a busted foot — a career high — and ten pressures in his final three games. That's not a bust. That's Hercules warming up. The market context is damning for the critics: Kingsley Enagbare just got TEN million for ONE year from the Jets. Van Ness at thirteen point eight for two years is a bargain by comparison. With Rashan Gary traded to Dallas, Kingsley gone, and Micah Parsons rehabbing a torn ACL, the Packers needed Van Ness. The runway is finally clear — and Gutey made sure it wasn't empty.        It sounds more and more like President Trump is finished talking with Iran, battling media in America reporting we're losing and hearing leaders in Europe say the USA is boxed in.  Itchy trigger finger?  I'm guessing.  And it now may involve something called a "Dark Eagle" missile that is devastating.  If they won't end the nuclear program, Trump believes you gotta take them out and try talking to some new leaders.    The president is also livid with the Senate here at home over the Save America Act.... really, really livid.   Pastor Adam announces he's running against Roger Marshall for Senator from Kansas.  I only credit him with one thing... he came out of the closet to become a democrat.   Wait until you hear a pathetic interview he did with a college student a couple weeks ago about issues.  This man belongs in a church, not DC.    CNN reports the black vote in America has moved to the right even more, and likely for good.    We have a great Chiefs rookie draft story about the first text he got after he got off the phone with Andy Reid on draft night.  Patriots fans have long forgiven their coach Mike Vrabel and we have a horse to root for in the Kentucky Derby Saturday that sounds like a favorite of any Chiefs/Travis Kelce fan.

When mom and dad go to war, it's the children who suffer the most. Family tension bleeds into every aspect of their lives, and frequently, they have nowhere to hide or even space to process the external and internal strife. As a kid, we fled to stories. Whether it was E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial or Mrs. Doubtfire, fiction helped us process the big emotions we witnessed flowing from our parents. This week on the podcast, we're talking with collaborators Jimmy Gaspero and Amber Akin about their new all-ages graphic novel, Penny and the Yeti. It's a comic designed to help kids navigate the world when the adult voices in their home get too darn loud. Currently, divorce rates in America fall between 40 and 50 percent. Whether a kid is personally affected by this rate or not, they'll certainly encounter divorce among friends. They will rely on stories like Penny and the Yeti to clarify this reality. And creating such stories bears an incredible responsibility. With Jimmy Gaspero and Amber Akin, we discuss Penny and the Yeti's origins, its ties to Gaspero's own daughter, and the joys of visualizing cryptids. Why a Yeti? If you know Jimmy and his work as a podcaster and journalist, you know the answer already. And we get into that specific aspect of his life as well. Penny and the Yeti is out now from Papercutz. It's written by Jimmy Gaspero, illustrated by Amber Akin, color flatted by Charlie Akin, and lettered by Buddy Beaudoin. America, a land rich in growth and prosperity but also blessed with an abundance of natural beauty, faces a quandary: how to keep its economy flourishing while at the same time safeguarding its environment. It's the topic of the Hoover's Institution's upcoming “Markets vs. Mandates” conference. Terry Anderson, Hoover's John and Jean De Nault Senior Fellow (adjunct) and one of the founders of “free-market environmentalism”, discusses what's on the agenda at the Hoover symposium (tariffs, AI, federal-to-state regulatory shifts) and why tradeoffs are the key to America's future, be it protecting resources, meeting energy needs and keeping the nation on the cutting edge of technology. Anderson points to different regions of the US where markets and mandates butt heads, including his native Montana and nearby Wyoming, Virginia's embrace of energy-guzzling data centers, and a potential lithium bonanza in the Carolinas and parts of New England.

Photographer, director, and producer Mitch Epstein joins PhotoWork with Sasha Wolf to discuss his storied career in photography, environmental activism, and artistic influences. From early inspiration by Garry Winogrand to guidance from John Szarkowski, Epstein reflects on how he evolved into a research-driven, project-based photographer focused on environmental issues. He also discusses his work in film as a production designer and co-producer on Mississippi Masala (1991) and Salaam Bombay! (1988), and shares insights on privilege, longevity, and sustaining a life in photography. https://www.mitchepstein.net Mitch Epstein has photographed the landscape and culture of America for half a century. A graduate of Cooper Union, he became a pioneer of 1970s fine-art color photography.  Epstein has been inducted into the National Academy of Design (2020) and was awarded the Prix Pictet (2011), Berlin Prize (2008), and a Guggenheim Fellowship (2002). His work has been shown and collected by museums worldwide, including New York's Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Gallery in Washington DC, The Art Institute of Chicago, Tate Modern in London, Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Los Angeles's Getty Museum and LACMA, the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, TX, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Recent exhibitions include “American Nature” (photographs and multi-media installations) at the Gallerie d'Italia museum in Torino, Italy (2024-25); “In India,” (photographs and films) at Les Rencontres d'Arles in the Abbey of Montmajour, Arles, France (2022); and “Property Rights” at The Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas (2020-21). Epstein's seventeen books, mostly published by Steidl Verlag, include Recreation (2022, 2005), Property Rights (2021), New York Arbor (2013), American Power (2009), and Family Business (2004), winner of the Kraszna-Krausz Photography Book Award. Epstein's mixed media work includes films, moving image with sound installations, and performance. In 2013, The Walker Art Center commissioned and premiered a theatrical rendition of his American Power series. Directed by Annie B. Parsons and Paul Lazar, the performance combined original live music by Erik Friedlander and live storytelling by Epstein; and included video, projected photographs, and archival material. In documentary film, Epstein was director of Dad and Retail (2003) and director of photography for India Cabaret (1988). He was production designer and co-producer for the feature films Mississippi Masala (1991) and Salaam Bombay! (1988). Epstein's most recent exhibition, American Nature, assembles three self-contained yet integrated photographic series (Old Growth, Property Rights, American Power); a multi-channel video-sound installation with tonal music by Mike Tamburo and Samer Ghadry filmed performing in the forest (Forest Waves), and a looped projection with music by David Lang, performed by Maya Beiser (Darius Kinsey: Clear Cut). Together these five pieces investigate notions of wilderness and human society; and their both collaborative and troubled co-existence. Epstein lives in New York City and Massachusetts.
