In the series finale, the hunt for the Flag Smashers culminates in New York City, where Karli Morgenthau and her allies have infiltrated GRC operations in order to stop the global resettlement plans. Bucky arrives to help and is joined by Sharon Carter. Sam flies in wearing his new suit and wings, having finally accepted the mantle of Captain America. Cap fights Batroc while Bucky tries to thwart Karli’s plans to evacuate the building. Sharon, who is revealed to be the Power Broker, is playing all sides throughout the episode. Karli creates various diversions to delay Sam and Bucky, who prioritize saving lives. She takes two trucks full of GRC officials hostage, but Sam and Bucky manage to save them all, even with John Walker showing up to take his vengeance on Karli. Together, Bucky and a more stable Walker apprehend Karli’s core group. But Sharon corners Karli and Batroc horns in on their business. Sharon kills Batroc, but not before he also shoots her. When Sam arrives, it appears that Karli has shot Sharon. A fight ensues, with Sharon saving Sam’s life by fatally shooting Karli, keeping Sharon’s secret safe. Sam gives an impassioned speech to the GRC officials, which is caught on live TV. His efforts are enough for the GRC to suspend their resettlement plans. After the battle, Zemo manages to execute the remaining Flag Smashers from his cell at The Raft. John Walker goes to work for the mysterious Val, becoming the U.S. Agent. Bucky finishes his therapeutic work and makes peace with his past, present, and future. He joins the Wilsons, who are celebrating Sam’s journey, for a family party in Louisiana. As promised, Sharon Carter receives a full pardon from the U.S. government and regains her job at SHIELD, setting her up to be the ultimate double agent. And Sam brings Isaiah Bradley to the Smithsonian Institute to see the long overdue exhibit that Sam got installed. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sam and Bucky confront Walker after he publicly executed a Flag Smasher. When Walker refuses to give up the shield, a bloody fight ensues, with Sam forcibly taking the shield and heading back to the GRC camp with Bucky. The GRC takes jurisdiction over the manhunt of Karli Morgenthau and her followers, leaving Sam out of the loop. Sam leaves his broken wings with Torres and heads to Baltimore, while Bucky hunts down Zemo. Meanwhile, John Walker is stripped of his titles, including Captain America, and discharged from the military immediately. He is approached by an enigmatic woman named Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, who clearly wants to recruit Walker for something nefarious. Sam talks with Isaiah Bradley and gains a clearer understanding of his story and legacy. Bucky and Zemo both choose not to kill each other, and Bucky hands Zemo over to Ayo and the Wakandan Dora Milaje. Sam returns home to Louisiana, where he and Sarah finally create a workable plan to save their family business. Bucky joins them to help and brings Sam a long-awaited peace offering. While fixing the boat and training with the shield, Sam and Bucky work through their issues and finally bond as buddies. But Karli is busy planning an attack on the GRC, with the help of Batroc, who is working for the shadowy Sharon Carter. As Karli’s plot commences, Sam appears to be ready to take on the mantle of Captain America, no matter how the U.S. government feels about it. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a flashback, we see that Ayo was integral in Bucky’s deprogramming and overall healing. She gives Bucky 8 hours to hand Zemo over to the Wakandans. In that time, Sam, Bucky, and Zemo go to Donya Modani’s memorial in search of Karli Morgenthau. However, John Walker and Lemar Hoskins demand to join them. Sam tries to negotiate a truce with Karli, but an increasingly aggressive Walker attacks and a fight with the Flag Smashers ensues. Zemo ambushes Karli and destroys the vials of super serum that are knocked loose in the scuffle. Walker drops in, knocking out Zemo and pocketing the one remaining unbroken vial of serum. A wounded Karli escapes, and the men regroup at Zemo’s apartment. Walker again tries to take Zemo into custody, but the Dora Milaje arrive first. Walker makes a wrong move, and the warriors attack. In the chaos, Zemo escapes and the Dora completely neuter Walker. After Karli threatens his sister Sarah, Sam agrees to meet with Karli again. Upon arriving, Sam gets alerted by Sharon Carter that Walker is crashing the meeting again. Another fight ensues, only this time the Flag Smashers get more than they bargained for when they realize Walker has taken the super serum. During the melee, Karli inadvertently kills Hoskins, fueling Walker’s rage. Unable to find a fleeing Karli, Walker pursues her friend, who Walker precedes to decapitate with his shield on a street in front of dozens of filming witnesses. Sam Wilson & Bucky Barnes break Baron Zemo out of prison to help track down the source of the super soldier serum. The trio heads undercover to Madripoor, where they meet with Zemo’s contact, Selby. She offers that Dr. Wilfred Nagel recreated the serum, but won’t divulge his location. Their cover gets blown by a bumbling Sam, who is very much out of his element. Selby and her henchmen are killed by a “guardian angel,” but Sam, Bucky, and Zemo immediately have bounties on their heads for her murder. They are confronted by former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, who is now running a criminal business in Madripoor after being abandoned by the Avengers and named an enemy of the United States. Sharon begrudgingly helps the trio locate Nagel in his shipping yard laboratory. He admits to making 20 vials of super soldier serum for the Power Broker, but reveals they were all stolen by Karli Morgenthau. Zemo kills Nagel and an explosive firefight ensues. After holding off the enemy, Sharon returns to her intriguing business while Sam, Bucky, and Zemo head to Latvia to regroup. But Bucky is immediately confronted by Ayo, one of Wakanda’s Dora Milaje. Ayo intends to capture Zemo and bring him to Wakanda to face justice for the murder of King T’Chaka. While Sam, Bucky, and Zemo are galavanting around Madripoor, Karli Morgenthau and the Flag Smashers cross the line to murder. And an increasingly frustrated John Walker is planning to get reckless. We learn more about John Walker just as Bucky learns of Walker’s new role as “Captain America.” Bucky is furious over Sam’s decision, leading to a tense reunion. Unwilling to deal with his mounting emotions, Sam tables the discussion & the two head to Munich to track the Flag Smashers. Sam & Bucky quickly discover that the group is made up entirely of super soldiers. Walker & Hoskins arrive to help, but fail to apprehend Karli Morgenthau & her team. Walker suggests they all team up, but Sam & Bucky decline. Bucky instead takes Sam to Baltimore in hopes of enlisting the aid of Isaiah Bradley, a Black super soldier whom the U.S. government brutalized & kept secret. Bradley refuses to help, and Bucky is subsequently arrested for missing a therapy session. Walker uses his authority to get Bucky released & the terms of his pardon eased. A desperate Walker pitches the team-up idea once more, with no success. Walker lashes out, making it clear that Sam & Bucky are now his enemies. And while Sam & Bucky are deciding to visit Helmut Zemo, the Flag Smashers are fleeing from the true villain of the show: Power Broker. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Disney+ series stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian, Emily Van Camp, Daniel Bruhl, Adepero Oduye, and Amy Aquino. It’s curtains up on a special episode of West Broadway! I’m Los Angeles publicist and Broadway veteran Will Armstrong. This episode is a bit of a departure from our normal shows at west of Broadway, but as I think of it, maybe it’s less of a departure and more of an evolution. After all, as I see it, a podcast about musical theater on the West Coast is great. But what is musical theater without… Theater? Yesterday I was asked to attend the opening night of The Father staring Alfred Molina at the Pasadena playhouse that very night. The Pasadena Playhouse is a pretty special theater in the heart of Pasadena. And over the past couple seasons they have really upped their game when it comes to the shows that they produce. And it sounded like this production was no different. As the official state theater of California, their mission is to enrich people’s lives through theater, community programs and learning. With over 100 years of experience they are one of the most prolific theaters in American history with the legacy of profound theatrical impact and courageous new work Molina, who I’ve adored since Raiders of the lost Ark back in 1981. Made his Broadway debut as Evan in the production of Art and received critical acclaim in the play Red. And musical fans know he also starred in Fiddler on the Roof as Tevye. His laundry list of theatrical and television accomplishments is nothing short of impressive and opening night of The Father was full of fans and dear friends who were there to support and celebrate Mr. Molina The play The father is a dark journey down the tragic one-way tunnel of dementia from French playwright Florian Zeller. This intense drama was adapted in English by Christopher Hampton originally starring Frank Langella who won the Tony Award for his performance of Andre and I knew that Mr. Molina was going to impress. While covering the red carpet, I wanted to ask the celebrity guests three questions. One: “Why is theater special to you.” Two: “What makes theater in Los Angeles so different” And lastly, “How excited are you to see Alfred Molina in this production?” Veteran Actor, Stacey Keach, Marisa Echeverria of Goliath, Actress Wendie Malick who mentioned the work she does with Playfest in Durango Colorado, Film and stage actress Amy Aquino, Actress and Producer Cindy Fernandez Nixon, Pasadena Playhouse Board member Jane Kaczmarek, Okieriete “OAK” Onaodowan from Hamilton and ABC’s Station 19, Actress and Educator Brenda Banda of Gentefied talks about her relationship with PSArts, Michael Nathanson from Netflix’s The Punisher talks about his callback for this production, and the charmingly brilliant Suzanne Cryer, who you may know from All Rise or Silicone Valley, talks about her love of theater, her family and crying The Father is playing now at the Pasadena Playhouse and until March 1 for tickets in the information go to PasadenaPlayhouse.org Thanks so much for listening. I hope you enjoyed learning about my experience at the Pasadena Playhouse for more episodes you can find us at Broadwaypodcastnetwork.com/westofBroadway. And you can find me on social media @WillArmstrongPR. Special thanks to my talented audio tech/husband and theater companion Bill Shepard and the team at Broadway Podcast Network, if you have some time poke around on their homepage they’ve got some other really great programming and I’m sure you’ll enjoy. So that’s all for now, thanks so much enjoy the rest of your day and remember if you’re ever looking for us you can find us just west of Broadway. Learn more about your ad choices. LETTTTTT THE RIVER RUNNNNNNN.....Teased hair, eye-shadow that matches your earrings, a 10 o'clock with Slater and lunch with Mr. Trask at 1 downtown. I came into tonight a huge Amy Aquino fan. I left loving her a gazillion times more. How is that even possible. We started with Bosch. If you’ve yet to watch this stupendous Amazon series, pick up your remote right now. Well, after you check out Amy here… lots of behind the scenes there… here, and everywhere. From Working Girl, Moonstruck, Freaks & Geeks, Brooklyn Bridge with Marion Ross, who’s celebrating her 90th and will be doing so with us at Tuesday’s Women Who Write, and, hopefully. If Amy can slip away from filming, she’ll be with us, too… From PA to Harvard, pre-med, I know, to Yale grad school with Courtney B. Vance and Patricia Clarkson to MN, to non-stop working actor… stage and screens large and small. The girl who was too busy killing school and life to watch TV, Amy’s not just guested on dozens and dozens of shows, she’s had recurring roles on just about all of them, four at once, at times. From ER, Picket Fences, Everybody Loves Raymond, Felicity… on and on and on. From SAG vice-president to assisting to mobilize and facilitate the SAG-AFTRA merger, Amy’s a woman of superior intelligence, conscience, and talent. I have never, ever caught this woman acting. Technically savvy, Stylist and costumer, Craig Ames, remembered a trick she taught them a million years ago on a show they did together… a little white close to the face reflects light… I wore some for both of us. Amy shared a little nugget she picked up from Lindsay Wagner, the secret of her Oscar night lemon bars, and, her neighbors’ dog Jackson, who almost stole the show. What’s next? If Amy has her way, a role on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Her best friend, and series co-star, Tony Shalub, has been doing his part to help. Amy Sherman-Palladino, something tells me this Amy Aquino's gonna win this. I can’t imagine anything this powerhouse can’t find her way to do. The summer solstice this year may fall on June 21st, but for those facing Alzheimer’s, every day can seem to last forever. During Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, the Alzheimer’s Association hosts The Longest Day, a global movement and team event to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. To honor this, Jane's guest is Amy Aquino, the renowned actress who currently stars in the Amazon hit series, “Bosch.” (The series returned for its fourth season in April 2018 and has already been renewed for a fifth season.) Jane and Amy will talk about her personal connection to Alzheimer’s and why she decided to become an advocate for The Longest Day fundraising event, and a champion for the Alzheimer’s Association. Jane will also be speaking with Monica Moreno, Senior Director of Care and Support at the Alzheimer’s Association, who is responsible for the oversight and administration of all national programs and strategies serving early-stage constituents and their families, and who also served as a consultant to screenwriters and directors of the film Still Alice.
