Jan Göschel und sein Team wollen erforschen, wie der einzelne Mensch, aber auch kulturelle und soziale Institutionen inklusiv oder exklusiv wirken – und wie man im Bereich der Heilpädagogik und Inklusion im gesamtgesellschaftlichen Kontext gestalterisch tätig werden kann. Im Interview mit Julia Demming erklärt der studierte Psychologe und Sonderschullehrer, dass er, auf Grundlage des anthroposophischen Karmabegriffs, immer von der Möglichkeit zur positiven Entwicklung der Gesamtsituation ausgeht.

For this episode of the podcast I spoke with Craig Holdrege and Ryan Shea of the Nature Institute in Ghent, New York about the theory and practice of a very different way of doing science, informed and inspired by the work of the great German poet, scientist, and statesman, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. In contrast to the reductionist paradigm of science as it is often practiced elsewhere today, the Goethean approach seeks a perspective on nature characterized by wholeness and interconnection through a sensitive and self-aware methodology in which the relationships between the phenomena and the observer are not forgotten. Craig was a visiting instructor at Thoreau College in 2020 and we are very excited to welcome Ryan to Wisconsin as guest instructor this coming spring during our Spring 2025 Metamorphosis Gap Semester.Craig Holdrege is the Nature Institute's director and spearheaded its founding in 1998. His passion is to develop what Goethe called “delicate empiricism” — an approach that learns from nature how to understand nature and is infused with a cautious and critical awareness of how intentions and habits of mind affect human understanding. Craig carries out studies of animals and plants that tell the story of these organisms as dynamic and integrated beings within the larger web of life. He has written many articles and books, including Seeing the Animal Whole—And Why It Matters, Do Frogs Come from Tadpoles? and Thinking Like a Plant. Before co-founding The Nature Institute, Craig was a high school biology teacher in Waldorf Schools, working in Germany for 12 years and then in the U.S. for nine years. Since the early 1990s, Craig has been involved in teacher training. Craig has a Ph.D. in sustainability education from Prescott College in Arizona. He completed a Masters-level, non-degree program in phenomenological science at the Science Research Laboratory at the Goetheanum, Switzerland, and has a B.A. in philosophy from Beloit College.Ryan Shea taught at Providence College for eight years, including courses in philosophy of science, environmental philosophy, and nature writing. He has B.A. and M.A. degrees in philosophy. He brings to his work at The Nature Institute a broad knowledge of ancient philosophical biology (especially Aristotle), the scientific revolution, phenomenology, German idealism, and Goethean qualitative science. Ryan has been interested in Goethean Science since he was a teenager. He began working part-time for The Nature Institute in spring 2023 and is full-time as of September 2024. He is excited to now have the opportunity to develop Goethean practice through research and teaching. Today's guests are Andrea de la Cruz and Nathaniel Williams, leaders in the area of educational courses and the youth movement at the Goetheanum, located in Dornach, Switzerland. The Goetheanum is a remarkable building, a masterpiece of modern architecture nestled in the green foothills near Basel. It is also an organization that lies at the heart of anthroposophy, the spiritual and cultural movement flowing from the life and work of Rudolf Steiner, founder of the Waldorf schools. As such, the Goetheanum is home to a variety of artistic, scholarly, and social activities, as well as educational programs for youth and adults of all ages. In this episode, Andrea and Nathaniel share their own stories and describe the remarkable international community that gathers in Dornach for these programs, as well as how the anthroposophical youth movement manifests elsewhere in Europe and around the world.Andrea de la Cruz -Born in 1989 in Madrid, Spain, Andrea has been working with young people and in adult education in international settings since 2011. She coordinates the Studies & Further Education Department of the General Anthroposophical Section at the Goetheanum, Switzerland, where she develops educational activities on basic Anthroposophy together with the faculty team. In 2015 she took part in the Goetheanum's Anthroposophical Studies as a student, which marked a turning point in her life as she encountered the works of Rudolf Steiner. She then joined the Youth Section and worked as a youth researcher and facilitator of informal/experiential learning programmes from 2017-2022. Andrea holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Community Theatre, and Drama and Theatre Arts from Edinburgh and London, has a Waldorf Teacher Certification and is currently completing her MA in Pedagogical Innovation.Nathaniel WIlliams -Originally from the state of Alabama, Nathaniel has served as the leader of the Youth Section of the Goethenum since 2023. Prior to this role, he was the co-founder of Free Columbia with Laura Summer in upstate New York, which included a microcollege initiative known as the MC Richards Program. It celebrates the spooky correspondences and recursions the universe sometimes presents to us. The poem turns when the narrator happens upon James Salter's story “The Destruction of the Goetheanum,” in which the "vast, brooding structure" of the Goetheanum appears as both a photograph and a symbol. A failed writer in Salter's story is at work on an unfinished novel—“the one great act of his life”––which is also called The Goetheanum. My poem is named in honor of this project.

Cornelius Pieztner, currently a high-impact financial professional, spent the first 45 years of his life at Camphill - a network of intentional communities co-founded by his father Carlos Pietzner. The communities were designed for children and youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through his interactions and work with teenagers with pronounced developmental disabilities, Cornelius realized that his primary work was not to fix the "other", but to work on himself to cultivate tolerance, acceptance, and love. "The inner aspect of community" as he calls it, became one of the central inquiries of his life and work - "What would be needed for an aggregation of people to understand themselves and experience themselves as a community of people?" For more than 30 years, Cornelius has carried this inquiry into leading roles at the intersections of philanthropy, investment, social impact enterprises, transformative education focusing on the well-being of the planet, and commercial ventures toward a human-centered economy. Currently, he serves as the CEO of Alterra Impact Finance GmbH, an impact investment, management, and advisory firm in Switzerland with private equity investments in several European companies. Until 2021, he served as Managing Director of Mind & Life Europe, founded by the Dalai Lama. He also served as Chief Financial Officer on the Executive Board at the Goetheanum, General Anthroposophical Society, Switzerland (2002-2011), with affiliates in 90 countries and approximately 10,000 related institutions in agriculture, medicine, and therapy, (Waldorf) education, ethical banking and business, and the arts. He was the President of Camphill (life-sharing) Communities in North America. Growing up in a community that had no concept of individual ownership or income, Cornelius also developed a deep interest in understanding money and working with it in new ways to foster greater belonging. His earliest experiment was to set up a youth group fund with the principle, "put what you can, take what you need". His various leadership roles in finance have been guided by his vision of "positive economy" to catalyze a shift from consumerism to "enoughness", rationality to wisdom, and self-interest to compassion for others. Cornelius is also the steward of the Pietzner Art Collection, composed of over 1,500 artworks from his father and several other revolutionary artists. He is a partner at NOW Partners and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Karl Konig Institute in Berlin Germany, among other privately held European companies. He has also served on Advisory Boards for Gross National Happiness Center in Bhutan, B Corps Europe, Partnering for Global Impact, and OOOM World. In this, our 200th episode of Accidental Gods podcast, I am delighted to be joined by André Tranquilini, estate manager at Waltham Place, a 220 acred biodynamic estate in Berkshire, in the UK. André is a biodynamic farmer, consultant and teacher. He has been the manager at Waltham Place since 2018. André has worked extensively as a market gardener, Steiner school teacher and farmer, and was a founding member of the seed company, Living Seeds, in Portugal. Born in Brazil, André has had the opportunity to work and manage farms in his homeland, as well as Portugal and the UK. He has traveled widely teaching workshops and lecturing on Biodynamic Agriculture and is recognised as a biodynamic consultant by the international Biodynamic Agriculture section at the Goetheanum in Switzerland. This was one of the podcasts where we could have talked for hours, if not days. With is background in Brazil and coming from a mix of several racial groups, both colonised and colonisers, André brings a unique mix of perspectives just from the outset. Then with his training in Steiner's philosophy, and at Emerson College, coupled with his choice to specialise in biodynamic farming, he offers insights into the spirituality of agriculture, of how we can bring genuine deep connection with the web of life into our reality to re-connect the disconnections of the last ten millennia. He is passionate about the nature of living food and really knowledgable on how different it is from the industrially farmed and processed foods we are generally offered. He's part of a think-tank, A Bigger Conversation, that's looking into appropriate technology in farming and is at the leading edge of innovation in the biodynamic field, bringing the best of our new world together with the depth of experience that has grown out of the connection with the land. Episode Three, Season Ten of the Thoth-Hermes podcast explores facets of Higher Worlds and the Anthroposophical traditiom. Today, Rudolf meets with Thomas Mayer, Anthroposophical teacher, author and direct democracy activist. In Thomas's words, “you will meet the people you want to meet” which is an ongoing theme in this conversation. Thomas “met” Rudolf Steiner at the age of 15, reading “How to Know Higher Worlds”; 44 years later, he is an Anthroposophical meditation teacher, with his partner Agnes Hardorp. Thomas recently published “Answering the Call of the Elementals” which is intended as a lively workbook to intentionally strengthen a practitioner's connection to those Beings. In their discussion, Thomas and Rudolf explore the path of supersensible perceptual development. Steiner's work incorporated and influenced many aspects of esotericism; its wide-ranging impact is felt in the breadth of the interview. Topics range from the theme of the “I”/”Ich”, to organic architecture, to the Akashic records, to shadow work and the neutralization of the binary. The term “geisteswissenschaft” (“Spiritual Science”) is referenced and defined. Thomas describes the range of viewpoint diversity even within the Goetheanum as an institution, finding both more “intellectual” (scholarly, academic) thinkers and “spiritual” experiential artists. Solitary and group egregore work are weighed, with acknowledgement of their necessary coincidence. Rudolf and Thomas both note the bolster of healthy counterbalance that individual and cooperative esoteric work can provide. Thomas recommends several foundational Steiner texts for listeners, including “The Theosophy of the Rosicrucians”. Rudolf notes that many Steiner writings are available in English, at no cost, online. Thomas enters more specifically into the ideas of the Aether plane and defines the concept of the “Elementals”. Thomas carefully notes the Anthroposophical belief that supersensible perception is available to all humans, but must be actively and personally developed. He reminds us that this is also In the context of mutual interest: that the Elementals seek human interaction as much (or more) as we seek them. Es gibt wenig, was Andrea Pfähler in Sachen Theater nicht erlebt hätte. Von Hauptrollen an grossen Häusern bis zu Inszenierungen mit Jugendlichen war alles dabei. Vor allem aber ist sie eine der ganz wenigen, die Goethes «Faust» inszeniert haben. Ein Stück notabene, das als unspielbar gilt. Die Herausforderung dabei lag aber nicht nur im Umstand, dass das Stück 18 Stunden dauert und mit künstlerischen Aufgaben wie die Darstellung von Engeln und anderen Geistwesen verbunden ist, sondern auch in der Tatsache, dass Andrea Pfähler den «Faust» am Goetheanum inszeniert hat, einem Ort der Anthroposophie also, an dem Goethe eine ganz besondere Bedeutung hat. Da galt es, eine kreative Mischung zu finden aus langer Tradition und dem Bedürfnis nach Öffnung für Neues. Beides scheint Andrea Pfähler bestens gelungen zu sein. Geholfen hat da sicher Andrea Pfählers persönlicher Weg, der in Arlesheim und im anthroposophischen Umfeld beginnt und via Schauspiel-Akademie-Zürich in die herkömmliche Theaterwelt geführt hat. Ganz viele ganz unterschiedliche Erfahrungen konnte Andrea Pfähler auf diesem Weg sammeln, die nun wieder in ihre Arbeit einfliessen und so die verschiedenen Welten miteinander verbinden. Seien es die grossen Rollen am Deutschen Theater Göttingen oder die Auftritte beim Film, seien es die Begegnungen mit prägenden Regisseuren oder neugierigen Jugendlichen in ihren Theaterkursen oder seien es die gelegentlichen Ausflüge ins Kabarett und sogar in die Basler Vorfasnachtsszene, wo sie selbst als Nichtfasnächtlerin eine feste Grösse geworden ist. Von all diesen Erfahrungen und natürlich auch von der Musik, deren Bedeutung sie fast gleich hoch einschätzt wie die des Theaters, erzählt Andrea Pfähler im Gespräch mit ihrem Gastgeber Michael Luisier.

Vermehrt wird aus dem Schwarmtrieb, Königinnen werden nicht "künstlich" gezüchtet, die Bienen bauen ihre Waben selbst und der Brutraum soll ungeteilt sein. Gut, das kann man ja schnell mal machen. Es steckt aber ein bisschen mehr dahinter - nämlich die Gesamtsicht, die Gesamtlogik, es ist eine Weltsicht, die damit verbunden ist. Die wesensgemäße Imkerei setzt nicht nur auf der klassischen Wissenschaft auf, sondern bezieht das Wesen der Tiere mit ein. Was auch immer das ist. Aber es ist auch die Imkerein, der Imker selbst mit dabei. Man kann sich ja nicht aus der Sache rausnehmen. Einer der Imker der Fischermühle, der besonders im Forschungsbereich angesiedelt ist, ist Johannes Wirz. Giulia Maria Crespi, morta ieri a Milano a 97 anni, è stata fondatrice del Fai nel 1975 e proprietaria alla Zelata di Bereguardo di Cascine Orsine, dal ‘74 in regime biodinamico e poi oasi del biologico vero e dell'agricoltura italiana più etica, su una superficie di 650 ettari. Quella nelle campagne del pavese era l'azienda agricola di famiglia, una famiglia d'industriali lombardi ante litteram, che fecero successo con il business primario dei filati e della seta.Giulia Maria Crespi si dedicò di più alla cultura, all'ambiente e alla valorizzazione di tanti luoghi dimenticati. Sua fu anche la battaglia per modernizzare la linea editoriale del Corriere della Sera a cavallo del 1962,  che portò il quotidiano a occuparsi anche di temi ambientali. Sempre lei alla guida della fondazione Crespi Morbio tese la mano ai nuclei familiari più numerosi e in difficoltà; tramite la sua militanza nell'associazione Italia Nostra ebbe l'ispirazione per la creazione del Fai (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) e delle "Giornate di Primavera", per condurre alla riscoperta dei beni storico-artistici dimenticati che danno identità all'Italia.Giulia Maria Crespi, fondatrice di Cascine Orsine, fu colpita da una forma tumorale nel 1968. Dopo la radioterapia, si rivolse ad un medico antroposofo che la indirizzò alla Lukas Klinik, una piccola clinica, vicino a Basilea, ad indirizzo steineriano, dove il cancro veniva curato con terapie principalmente basate sull'alimentazione.Lì, imparò i criteri base di una sana alimentazione e si appassionò, attraverso libri ed esperienza diretta - la stazione sperimentale biodinamica del Goetheanum di Dornach – all'agricoltura biodinamica. La sua divenne forte, autentica adesione.Protagonista di Italia Nostra e Fondatrice del Fondo Ambiente Italiano, era particolarmente consapevole del continuo degrado che avveniva al terreno, alle piante, agli alberi, alle falde acquifere, causato in gran parte dall'agricoltura chimica.Sin da bambina, a Cascine Orsine, ascoltava la sera il grande concerto delle rane. Questa gioia, però, alla fine di maggio, veniva cancellata: un silenzio sordo sostituiva l'allegro gracidare e si sapeva che, in quel giorno, erano stati spruzzati i diserbanti nelle risaie e che le rane erano tutte morte.Si disse che, tutto questo, doveva davvero finire.Dopo studi di agraria, ed un approfondimento sulle tecniche biodinamiche svolte a Darmstadt, in Germania, decise che i terreni di Cascine Orsine dovevano essere trasformati radicalmente. Il processo non fu semplice. Chiese consulenza ad Almar von Wistinghausen, poi a Georg Merckens, entrambi allievi di Rudolf Steiner, per avviare un processo di riconversione biodinamico totale.Il processo fu complesso, poiché il terreno era stato coltivato, da troppo tempo, in modo irrazionale, senza alcuna rotazione utile. Ci fu impegno nel trovare persone ed energie che credessero al progetto. Ma, alla fine, il progetto venne realizzato.Grazie al supporto del figlio Aldo Paravicini Crespi, morto lo scorso 14 maggio in un incidente stradale nel cortile dell'azienda, Cascine Orsine è una realtà a totale produzione biodinamica dal 1976. Un "pioniere" della produzione biodinamica in Italia.
