Within the world of purebred coonhounds there exists seven recognized breeds, each with a national association that affiliates with the major coonhound registry, United Kennel Club.  These associations exist not only to steer the future of the individual breeds within the registry, but also as a fraternity, or sorority as the case may be, of individuals devoted to the breed.  None is more tightknit than the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association,  Our guest in this episode, Matt Wachter of Gardendale, Ala., is a young man that chose the Black and Tan Breed early on in his coon hunting career and has benefited greatly from the mentors he has gained through his choice of breeds.   One such mentor and personal friend is the late Doug Moore of Mt. Within the world of purebred coonhounds there exists seven recognized breeds, each with a national association that affiliates with the major coonhound registry, United Kennel Club.  These associations exist not only to steer the future of the individual breeds within the registry, but also as a fraternity, or sorority as the case may be, of individuals devoted to the breed.  None is more tightknit than the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association, Our guest in this episode, Matt Wachter of Gardendale, Ala., is a young man that chose the Black and Tan Breed early on in his coon hunting career and has benefited greatly from the mentors he has gained through his choice of breeds.   One such mentor and personal friend is the late Doug Moore of Mt. Olive, Alabama.Moore recently passed at the age of 82.The dog talk at its finest in this episode is full of stories of hunting with Moore and other stalwarts of the Black and Tan breed of Wachter's experience. Although fanciers of Black and Tans will no doubt appreciate this episode most, the stories, accounts and benefits of a coon hunter's life within the confines of a given breed should serve to influence others to choose a similar path. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Carafone's path began with a formative year working with an asylum attorney, where she witnessed the life-and-death stakes facing asylum seekers. After law school at the University of Michigan and a masters degree in theological studies from Harvard Divinity School, she spent over a decade at KIND, ultimately leading their U.S. legal programs. She was drawn to NETWORK, she says, by the organization's origin story of 47 sisters recognizing that federal policy could create a scaled positive impact, as well as NETWORK's commitment to coalition building.  She takes on the role of executive director at a perilous time in U.S. politics, especially regarding the treatment of immigrants. Last week, President Donald Trump announced America's AI action plan, emphasizing that the country must not allow China or any other nation to surpass it. The plan consists of three key components: accelerating innovation, building data centers and other artificial intelligence infrastructure, and leading in international diplomacy and security. Congressman Jay Obernolte (R-CA), co-chair of the U.S. Congressional Artificial Intelligence Task Force, joins the discussion to explore the framework and how the U.S. can win the AI race. The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HHS) recently reviewed over 350 organ transplant cases managed by Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates, which is now called Network for Hope, and found a disturbing trend. The report shows one hundred cases having what they called "concerning features," including examples of donors still showing neurological signs, and entailing that an organ procurement processes began for patients before they were officially declared deceased. The chief of the Health Resources and Services Administration's organ transplant branch, Dr. Raymond Lynch, joins the podcast to discuss the report and how they are correcting specific organ transplant procedures.
