It's common knowledge that many diseases and conditions have some kind of genetic link. But that wasn't always the case. In 1990, long before the Human Genome Project tied so many health issues to differences in genetics, researchers identified a gene called BRCA1. It was the first gene linked to a hereditary form of any common cancer. People with certain variants of BRCA1 stood a higher risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer than those without those mutations. Geneticist Mary-Claire King and her lab were the first to identify that gene. She joined Host Flora Lichtman in September 2025 to talk about her background, her research, and her approach to science. Guest: Dr. Mary-Claire King is an American Cancer Society Professor in the departments of Genome Sciences and Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. Kelsi and Trey dive deep into Curry Barker's Obsession, one of the most exciting original horror films we've seen in years. We break down why the movie feels like evil 500 Days of Summer meets Hereditary, how it turns modern dating anxieties, male entitlement, and the fantasy of “the one” into a supernatural nightmare, and why Inde Navarrette's performance is the emotional and horrifying center of the film. We also discuss the movie as a Gen Z relationship horror classic, a darkly funny cautionary tale, and ultimately a tragedy about agency and possession. Your Genetics are a key part of my TUSHY Method (Y = Your genetics) and I'm so honored to have Dena Goldberg (also known far and wide as Dena DNA) joining me today! Some of the questions I know you have on your mind about genetics are: Nothing came back on my 23 & Me test. I'm good to go, right? Answer: Not so fast. 23&Me relies on "SNP testing," and only looks at "very specific bookmarks on very random genes." You'll want a more thorough test for preconception screening. I don't have any history of disease in my family. Do I need to do genetic testing? Answer: It's a good idea. There are syndromes such as Lynch Syndrome that are asymptomatic in 90% of people who are carriers. You'll want to know if you have those genetic markers before passing them on to your embryo and child. Can you make sure my embryo doesn't have autism? Answer: Autism is actually a description of a constellation of symptoms. So it's not an underlying condition in and of itself. There are hundreds to thousands of genetic causes to autism. We can catch some of these cases, but not all. Autism is multifactorial, meaning that many of these cases are probably caused by a combination of genetics and environment or in other words, nature and nurture together. Most women with low AMH and high FSH get one of two answers about their iron: "it's fine," or "it's low, here's a supplement." Both leave the real problem untouched. Failed transfers, failed IVF cycles, miscarriage, irregular cycles, exhaustion that won't lift, and nobody asking why the iron is low in the first place. This episode shows you what the full iron panel actually reveals. In this episode, Sarah Clark sits down with Fab Fertile clinical advisor Katy Bradbury (registered nurse and nutritional therapist) to break down the iron panel every woman trying to conceive should be looking at. Not just the one number your doctor checked, but the full picture. They get into why the standard iron prescription is one of the worst forms you can take, why high dose iron can actually make things worse, and why symptoms you've been told are unrelated (brittle nails, cold hands, hair loss, ice cravings, exhaustion) could all be pointing at the same thing. What you'll learn: The full iron panel every woman trying to conceive should request, and what the numbers actually mean Why being told "your iron is fine" off one number is missing the picture The link between low iron and failed transfers, miscarriage, irregular periods, and pregnancy complications Why low iron is so common with low AMH, high FSH, DOR, and POI The thyroid and iron connection most doctors miss, especially with Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism Hidden reasons your iron is low even when you're eating well: gut infections, H. pylori, SIBO, low stomach acid, celiac, heavy periods Why the standard iron prescription often makes you constipated, nauseous, and no better off What to take instead, and why every other day often works better than every day Iron rich foods that actually move the needle, plus the foods and drinks blocking your absorption without you knowing The thyroid medication timing rule nobody tells you about This conversation is for women navigating low AMH, high FSH, DOR, or POI who have been told their iron is fine without anyone running the full panel. It's also for women who have been on iron supplements for years without anyone asking why the iron got low to begin with, and for anyone who has had a failed transfer, a miscarriage, or a failed IVF cycle and is trying to figure out what was missed. Not sure what's been fully evaluated? Download the free Embryo Audit Checklist to map your past cycles and labs so you can see what's been looked at and what may have been missed.
Hey kids. This cold really through me off track. We will be back with a new episode next week. Until then.. Hey kids! Thanks for stopping by. We have a super fun show ahead of us this week. We start off with a call from A.B Silver about his Johnny Coin ICO and an amazing advertising opportunity he has for us. Engineer Emily pops in and a lot of fun is had. From there we head into At The Movies where we take a look at a couple of different movies. The 1st one is called Hotel Artemis and the 2nd is the horror flick everyone is talking about, Hereditary. I saw it and I'll tell you all about it or at least what I thought of it. Then it's on to the main event of the show where we take a look at something we all have at least a passing interest in, Dinosaurs. With Jurassic World on the way I thought this was the perfect time for some Dinosaur Talk! Dinos are great and this week I spend about half of an hour breaking down the Top Five Dinosaurs Of All The Times and Space. We finish off the show with some toy talk and some flea market talk. Oh ya, there is a really long story about littering.

Hereditary peers have left their red leather benches for the final time. The House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) Act became law earlier this year, which removes all hereditary peers' right to speak and vote in Parliament by virtue of their family ties. Critics have described their role as indefensible, but others accuse Labour of political point-scoring and vandalising the upper house – removing a 'living part of Britain's constitutional inheritance'. James Heale and Megan McElroy discuss – joined by Lord Strathclyde and Lord Courtenay. Become a Spectator subscriber today to access this podcast without adverts. Von der Autobahn zum Retter Hollywoods? Wir reden über A24. Das Studio, das uns HEREDITARY und SWISS ARMY MAN oder UNCUT GEMS brachte. Genau wie GREEN KNIGHT, THE LIGHTHOUSE, THE ZONE OF INTEREST oder MIDSOMMAR. Also so was wie zum Bespiel SLICE, ON THE ROCKS, PROBLEMISTA, INTO THE FOREST oder sogar LOVE LIES BLEEDING, der bei der heutigen Besetzung keine ungeteilte Begeisterung hervorrufen konnte. Ciao. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

After the impossible high of director, Ari Aster's debut, Hereditary, for me the follow-up Midsommar was a complete miss. Since then he's posted two take no prisoners art-house triumphs, Beau is Afraid and this equally wild but very different meta-western. The most analogous film to One Battle After Another and just about as good. Ari is one of the greatest out there right now as is his lead actor Joaquin Phoenix, in one of his finest and most unknowable roles.
Episode Description: In this warm and deeply honest conversation, I sit down with my sweet friend Brittni Lamb — a sunshine-loving mama in Arizona raising two daughters and her adorable son Jameson, who has the ultra-rare Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia SPG3A. Brittni shares the raw season after Jameson's diagnosis when grief, loneliness, and hopelessness felt all-consuming. She talks about crying herself to sleep, walking through the days in a fog, and the heavy mom guilt she carried. Then she opens up about the slow, beautiful healing that came through daily surrender, faith, weight training, community with other special needs moms, and choosing to notice the “glimmers” of joy with her family. We talk about what surrender really looked like in her body and her home, how she's learning to care for herself so she can show up for her kids, the unique bond she shares with Jameson, and why her hope is now anchored in heaven — where she dreams of one day seeing Jameson walking, running, and jumping with a brand-new body. This episode is full of gentle wisdom, real talk about grief, and encouragement that joy and hope really can return after the darkest days. Topics Covered: The darkest days after diagnosis and what hopelessness felt like The moment surrender changed everything How weight training became part of her mental + physical healing Finding and clinging to glimmers of joy Raising siblings alongside a child with disabilities Faith, grief, and anchoring hope in heaven Connect with Brittni: Instagram: @brittnikarina @preppedaz If this episode touched you, please share it with another rare disease or special needs parent who needs to hear that they're not alone — and that hope can come back.

Horror films are a unique genre because they can have a profound effect on the viewer. They can literally change lives, leaving such a strong impression that something shifts in the psyche. Whether it makes someone afraid to go in the water, uneasy around bugs, frightened by Frankenstein's creature, or just generally on edge, these films can have a lasting impact. They are meant to scare us, but for some, they remain harmless entertainment. For others, certain films reach much deeper, lingering in the mind long after the credits roll. And yet, we keep coming back for more. Do these films help us confront our fears? Do they help us overcome them? Can they serve as a way to process real-world trauma, something made easier to face when it exists within the safe boundaries of a movie? Join us for this episode as we explore the films that have had a lasting impact on us, along with others that have left a powerful mark on audiences.
