Picture this: A membership platform that thrives outside the gamble of Adsense revenue. That's the domain Chris Sharpe and his business partner Adriene Mishler have built at Yoga with Adriene. They've shifted from ephemeral profits to constructing a community of over 50,000 members away from YouTube. In today's episode, Chris reveals the secrets that can transform viewers into a committed community. He discusses his evolution from independent filmmaker to entrepreneurial success. From early experiments with a cooking channel to prioritizing creation over marketing, we'll uncover what has made ‘Find What Feels Good' thrive. Chris shares his insights on the challenges of high-value transactional sales, the importance of recurring revenue, and the art of maintaining creative and business control. So, whether you're an established creator, a burgeoning entrepreneur, or someone who simply loves a good journey of growth and success against the odds, this episode is your ticket behind the scenes of a thriving creator's universe. Show Notes: Here are the key takeaways from our conversation with Chris: Outsource to Scale: One vital lesson is to delegate non-core activities. As a creator or Creator COO, identifying functions like bookkeeping, accounting, and HR can free up essential time and energy to focus on growth. By outsourcing these tasks, you also tap into expertise that can handle them more efficiently, reducing errors and long-term costs. Focus on Community and Recurring Revenue: Chris encourages creators to look beyond one-off sales and to invest in building a thriving community. This gives creators a more consistent revenue stream and a deeper connection with their audience, leading to long-term brand loyalty. Prioritize Creative Integrity and Control: Maintaining creative and business control is key for Chris. To stay content, creators need to create content that aligns with their vision, rather than chasing quick profits. The episode sheds light on the strategies for balancing the creative process with marketing, emphasizing profit margins, and managing a team—all while staying true to your core values. One such community was built by Adriene Mishler, and had humble beginnings as a yoga class hosted on YouTube in the early 2010s. 'Yoga with Adriene' grew steadily after a slow start, and by the time 2020 came around Adriene was the highest searched yoga content on the internet! She has built a huge community which she helps instruct from her living room. To give you an idea of her impact, she has been called 'the Mr. Rogers of yoga'! Having been born into a theatre family, Adriene has a lifelong passion for performance and connection to an audience. We hear from her about her earliest memories of the theatre, how this grew into a career in acting, and how this career led her to pursue teaching yoga. Constantly juggling a number of intense projects has kept Adriene on the go from a young age, and it is only through her consistency and a deep desire that she has made it through challenging times and reaped the rewards of the hard work. We see how her authenticity led to the videos she was publishing eventually catching fire, to the point where she now has 7 million subscribers on YouTube, with over 600 million views on her channel! This is a beautifully meandering conversation about this process of growth, the obstacles that Adriene encountered, and the lessons she learned along the way. Adriene talks about the role of her angels in the journey and what it means to contribute to the future of yoga! Listen in with us today for this amazing conversation!

Welcome to our 2nd Episode of 4 in our series about the Mind Body Connection. In this episode we focus on Yoga and all of the amazing benefits it offers. If you have never tried yoga or you have taken a class or 2 but didn't feel like it was for you, we encourage you to listen to this episode and learn a little more about it.There are many different kinds of yoga, so the chance of being able to find one that suits our needs is actually quite high. In this episode we speak to all of the incredible benefits you receive from a yoga practice. The list is quite lengthy but here are just a few of the physical benefits... increased flexibility, increased strength, muscle toning, increased balance, weight reductions and circulatory health improvement. Yoga also has a mental component that makes it so functional and good for the whole body. The breathing, movement and mindfulness components in yoga allow for the mind to calm and thus can lower blood pressure, cortisol levels and create an overall physical and mental feeling of wellbeing. In this episode we share our experiences growing up with yoga and how we employ all of its wonderful benefits today. We encourage listeners to try out new classes in person if possible because of the opportunity to connect with and create community. There is something really magical about sharing the choreographed movement and breathing with others in the same room, even if you don't know them personally. Elise talks about the classes that she took from MC Yogi, a very well known Yogi that owns an awesome studio in Point Reyes Ca. His unique techniques and music make his classes incredibly fun and effective. We also suggest trying out yoga classes online if the in-person classes are unaccessible and/or there is apprehension about skill level in a group setting. Adriene Mishler has a phenomenal Youtube yoga practice that she shares with the world. Her practicality, simplicity and humor allow for her to meet the yoga needs of the many. There are even apps that have yoga you can do every day, for example Asana Rebel. Nicole talks about working at Wanderlust which is an international yoga festival held all over the world. The events take place in beautiful outdoor spaces and there is nothing quite as amazing as taking a yoga class with a couple of hundred people in a huge field surrounded by the Sierra Mountains or a beautiful lake.We encourage you to go try out yoga or give it another shot. The physical and mental health benefits are amazing and the community of people associated with it are pretty darn cool too!!! Are you ready to Dabble in the Art of Yoga? They've built a business empire. For Chris Sharpe and Adriene Mishler, the idea might have applied ... but only at first. Hello and welcome to today's show. Our guest today, Dany, lives in France but is originally from Italy. As she says, she likes to think that she combines the best of both. What shines through is a love of life, joy in teaching, and her very personal journey to discover her true self. We discuss how she has tried different types of Yoga and how Adriene's approach really chimed with her. Regular yoga practice was potent in Dani's ability to deal with stress. So much so that friends and family really noticed the change. Dani shares with us her delight in helping her pupils learn languages and deal with the everyday stresses of school. Along with two colleagues, she has developed an initiative that teaches their First-year pupils skills in mindfulness and breathwork. The feedback has been very positive, and they also offer similar support to other teaching staff. We discover the joys, support and acceptance to be found in the Kula. Potentially a social media community quite like any other. The conversation is at times light-hearted but also deeply inspirational in helping all of us to see how we can get better at dealing with this journey we call life. Essential tools along the way include Yoga, for Dany, her rediscovery of art and drawing and, of course, the fantastic resource that Adriene Mishler offers through her yoga and meditation videos. I hope that it encourages you to explore Yoga further and build on and find new things that will help you on your personal journey.

Because we are exercise sloths and busy women, we're always looking for quick and easy ways to get moving. Have you ever tried Pilates? It's a popular form of exercise that was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It's now a worldwide fitness trend and it's often used as a form of rehabilitation for lower back pain or injury, and recovery after childbirth. Gab and Sarah look at what Pilates actually involves and if it lives up to the hype. Plus, another batshit crazy fitness trend, this time involving Kate Hudson and a bag full of water. How many times have you set yourself a big fitness goal? Did you achieve it? Research shows that having really specific and fixed goals can actually be a deterrent rather than a motivator. In recent years there's been a shift away from the traditional method of goal-setting known as SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timebound); towards a more flexible approach. Gab and Sarah explain the idea behind ‘open goals', and how this is proving to be a more effective way of achieving a fitness target. No matter how hard you try, it can often feel like your fitness isn't improving. It's so disappointing when you've been doing the same workouts over and over and you don't see any progress in your strength, or number of reps, or cardiovascular fitness. Even when you've been consistent with your exercise, sometimes it feels like you've hit a wall and you can't get past it. So what do you do when your progress has stalled? Gab and Sarah explain how to reframe the way you measure progress, and look for the many ways you are making headway (even when it doesn't feel like it). This episode we're talking endocannabinoids and sports bras (the two are not related!). For years it was thought that the “runner's high” was due to the release of endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals that are produced by the body to relieve stress and pain, and they work on the opioid receptors in the brain (the same receptors that opiate drugs like morphine act upon). An increasing body of evidence suggests that this so-called “runner's high” is notdue to the release of endorphins but is instead due to the release of another type of neurochemical called endocannabinoids. And yes, the word endocannabinoid sounds a lot like the word cannabis, and in the same way that endorphins act upon the opiate receptors in the brain, endocannabinoids act upon the same cannabinoid pathways as cannabis. Sarah explains why it's theoretically possible to get a little “high” on exercise, and Gab has some sports bra recommendations for you to check out. Did you know you release stress hormones when you exercise? It's because your body is in a state of physical stress, especially if you're new to exercise or you're not an adrenaline junkie. It's the reason why you feel so gross during a workout. The good news is, regular exercise trains your body to cope better with these stress hormones, which can help build your resiliency to other forms of stress. Gab and Sarah explain why exercise is a useful tool for looking after your mental health. Plus, Sarah has a new hobby and Gab has another weekly challenge for you. In this show, I chat with Cara who is in Adelaide, Australia. We discuss our love for yoga and Cara talks about how important yoga has been in her journey. It’s Momnesia time, y’all! Today your podcast hosts are feeling a bit slap-happy, so please forgive us ahead of time. In our Catch Up at the beginning of the episode, Sarah shares about her latest adventure in rearranging furniture in her home. Who thinks it’s time for Sarah to start a blog chronicling the ever-changing layout of her home? (I’d read that.) Or, maybe she should start another side-gig (is this her third or fourth?) where she stages furniture for people in their homes. (I’d hire her.) We are hoping she has learned her lesson on moving grand pianos by herself, but the jury is still out. Stay tuned. Julie gushes over her love of Adriene Mishler, the sweetest, goofiest, most authentic yogi you will ever find. Yoga With Adriene is a free, online, daily yoga class on YouTube (her channel has over 6 million subscribers!). If you’ve ever been interested to learn more about yoga or curious to try out the practice, this is a great place to get started in the comfort of your own home. Today’s guest is Lindsay Hotmire. Lindsay is a master message coach and copy expert who loves to work with coaches and leaders who know there's nothing formulaic about authenticity. Without a doubt, Lindsay's greatest accomplishment is her family. She lives in the Midwest with her husband and four kids, loves wine and bourbon, takes small walks with her out-of-shape puppy, and occasionally dreams about what life will be like in 5 years when she is an official empty nester. In this episode, Lindsay reflects not a single story of motherhood, but a series of vignettes that have been collected over time; tiny, little stories that come together to represent something even bigger. We create a vast construct of our lives. A towering city of activities, accomplishments, commitments, relationships, interests, purchases, habits, work and plans. We strive very hard to maintain it all. And to keep building. Some of it we love. Some of it we need. Some of it we aren't that fond of. Some mistakes we wish we could demolish. Some of it's our idea, but some of it comes from others' expectations. Some of it comes from our own expectations. Some of those expectations change over time. Or, they should, but we're so busy building and maintaining the vast city that we don't take time to review what we really should be building. What happens if the city grows in a direction you don't really love, because you didn't control the growth? What happens if the city is stripped away? What happens if it becomes to big to handle? When you step back from your life for a moment...how does it look with the perspective a little distance gives? How much of it matters? How much of it would you change if you could? I've practiced yoga off and on for years. More off than on, but the last two years I've been more consistent and it makes a huge difference in my mental and physical health. One of the things I enjoy doing periodically is going through Adriene Mishler's 30 day sequences. I've done them each several times and I'm in the middle of one again now. This sequence, is called Yoga Camp. It includes a mantra along with each day's practice. The mantras are generally not that meaningful to me. There's nothing wrong with them, it just doesn't resonate all that much for me. I know they affect others differently. But, the other day, for some reason, one just really hit me hard. Adriene's mantra was "I release." I'm not sure if it's the years of restlessness in my work coming to a head. If it's thinking about traveling light like I talked about a few weeks ago. Maybe it's working with refugees in Greece recently. Maybe it's summer and having fewer responsibilities. Maybe it's my age. Maybe it's a whole bunch of those things coming together at one time. But, "I release" really struck a chord. I sat a on my yoga mat for a good long while and the things I need to release just washed over me. I'm ready to release my long held expectations of what my life would and should be. And those expectations that have come more recently...what my life will be. I'm ready to release the "should's" that tend to guide my path. I'm ready to release my constant need to become...something else. I'm ready to release my need to be perfect. I'm ready to release my need to be in constant control. Not of others, but of myself, my actions and my emotions. I'm ready to release anything I own. I'm ready to release the need to succeed as a measure of worth. I'm ready to stop trying so hard and just be. I'm ready to walk into what's next with a clean slate and space to grow into. Releasing things...letting things go that no longer serve us...old hurts for example, can be a difficult process. Even if we want to let go, it can be hard. This decision--the "I choose to release" part is only a first step. Episode Artwork This week's art started with me thinking like an illustrator. I was thinking about the idea of carrying all these things that we really need to let go. It's like carrying a backpack full of heavy rocks around with us everywhere we go. Or, if you've more than a backpack full, it's like dragging a wagon of them around with you. But, I just couldn't get started with that piece. Which is a problem, because I'm headed out camping this weekend and I need to get this done a few days earlier than usual! I'm struggling with art right now. And having been out of the studio for a month makes the situation worse. So, instead of the backpack and rocks piece, I started one that's much different. Much less literal. More intuitive. More difficult. And released it from the need to be good. I decided to just get in and paint while sitting with the ideas from this podcast. It became a Pushme--Pullyou piece about freedom and captivity. So, here's the question for you today. How would you finish the sentence, "I release...?" Last week Ben and Brooke told you they’d teamed up with the awesome Adriene Mishler of Yoga With Adriene for a new Slow Home Experiment - 30 days of yoga! Now they’re a week in and already feeling the massive benefits of slowing down and doing yoga every day. This week they chat about the initial struggle to get up and out of bed half an hour earlier every day, as well as the inevitable challenge of early-rising kids and dogs who think the yoga mat is nothing more than Belly Rub HQ. They haven’t missed a day yet though and talk about how they’re feeling, which days have been tough (Abs Day, here’s looking at you!) and how they manage to push through even when they’re not feeling it. At. All. Ben's goal is to be able to touch his toes at the end of the month and he's promised to post a progress photo each week, to prove that you don't need to be ultra flexible or experienced in yoga to get the benefits. Head over to http://www.slowyourhome.com/53 to see his progress photos and for links to Adriene’s videos, youtube channel and shorter practices for those days you don’t have a lot of time. Don’t forget, you can play along with Brooke and Ben by tagging your social media posts with #slowhomeexperiment and share your experiences. Hit us up on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and let’s get experimenting! ==== If you're enjoying the show and want to know how to best support it, leave a rating or a review in iTunes or head over to the Patreon page to help support the show financially. Well, crack open the chocolates and pass all the lollies! The no-sugar experiment is over! In this episode, Brooke and Ben talk about the past month’s experience of eating virtually no processed sugar, how they feel now and what they plan on changing now they’re out of the experiment phase. They also answer a couple of questions about the kinds of foods they ate regularly over the past month and walk through what a typical days food looked like. In this show they also talk about the next Slow Home Experiment and what they’re taking on in March. Initially it was going to be a month of limited screen time but the past few weeks has shown them that running a new company and front-loading work for April means this experiment would just set them up to fail. So instead, they’re going back to a change they started in January but fell away from as things got too busy - daily yoga! Adriene Mishler - the awesome lady behind 30 Days of Yoga and Yoga With Adriene - has given us the OK to use her videos as the basis of the experiment, so if you’re keen to play along you can find a link to her videos over at http://www.slowyourhome.com/51 Enjoy! ==== If you're enjoying the show and want to know how to best support it, leave a rating or a review in iTunes or head over to the Patreon page to help support the show financially.
