Why? It’s the question that draws so many of us to true crime. Why would someone kill? What drives a person to stalk? Are some people truly evil? Are good people capable of terrible things? We grapple with these questions, trying to make sense of the unimaginable. Is it their childhood? Their biology? Or something more complex? These aren’t just the questions we ask. Detectives, forensic psychologists, and criminal behaviour analysts have spent lifetimes trying to understand the minds of those who commit the unthinkable. In this episode, you'll hear from these experts. Crime Insiders is hosted by Brent Sanders and Kathryn Fox. Guests in this episode include Ricky Hennessy, Professor Troy McEwan, and Julia Cowley. ”It was really sort of a Blitzkrieg assault approach where I wrote many, many scripts and emailed everybody I knew, and entered scripts into screenwriting competitions. “While I was living in New York I paid for a pitch fest in L.A. I flew out there to this event where you had five minutes to pitch different companies, like Lionsgate Motion Pictures. It was like speed dating for screenwriters. Eventually, I got one of my scripts into the hands of The Asylum and that eventually became ‘Born Bad,' which was a made-for Lifetime TV movie. When they told me they liked that script and they wanted me, well, that was amazing!” Jared Cohn is a film/TV director, writer, and producer based in Los Angeles, CA. He has directed over 50 films that have been produced and distributed by major studios and distributed by major studios and production companies such as Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, Syfy, Lifetime, and many more. His new book, 50 Movies Made: Lessons Learned on a Filmmaker's Journey, chronicles his life through the Hollywood trenches and how he achieved his lifelong dream on the other side. In the book, he discusses all areas of the movie making process, from screenwriting and preproduction to production, post-production and distribution.

In today's episode, “one, two, Freddy's coming for you” in Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and Chuck Russell's A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987). In the original 1984 release, a group of teens attempt to outsmart Freddy Krueger, a supernatural killer who stalks them in their dreams. In the 1987 sequel, a band of institutionalized teens attempt to defeat Krueger and save the life of an innocent by intentionally entering Dreamland together to dire consequences. Aided by one of the most famous monsters in horror film canon, the films are considered essential viewing for fans of the slasher film, but is there more to this franchise than gore and Freddy's razor sharp wit? We're breaking it all down today with spoilers so stay tuned. Recommended Reading Christensen, Kyle. Pit bulls have a dark reputation. And some people say the science backs this up: that they bite people more often and do more damage when they chomp down. But other people say, no way — these dogs don't deserve their bad rap. And if a dog has a problem, it's really the owner's fault. So who's right? To find out, we talk to animal behavior expert Anna MacNeil. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
In the 1890s, Jim Miller emerges from central Texas as a strange combination: he's both a religious fanatic and a cold-blooded killer. He drifts west to the El Paso area and becomes embroiled in a long-running feud with a local sheriff. The body count rises; controversy and rumor follow Miller everywhere he goes; and the law seems unable to convict him. Hey Headliners! We will be taking a short break after this weeks episode and will return with a brand new episode on Thursday June 23rd! Chat with us on social media in the meantime - If you're looking for more content, check out our Patreon! This week Matt recaps S04 E09 of Law and Order, Born Bad, which has some of his "favorite" things to watch: bad child actors! (Maybe that's where the title actually comes from?!) Since this one wasn't directly inspired by a true crime, Enn tells us the tale of Elizabeth Báthory, also known as The Blood Countess! Was this one of the most prolific female killers of all time or a massive conspiracy and frame job? Support the show

Merci Julien, Sylvain, Florence, Martin Enjoy !

In this Showdown episode, Conor and Caroline embrace their deliciously wicked and perfectly wretched selves as the origin stories of two Disney villains do battle. 2014's Maleficent broke some seriously evil ground as Disney's first foray into the world of a mature villain backstory, while 2021's Cruella took the next leap into the ultra-stylized PG-13 hijinks. Will Maleficent take the horned crown or will Cruella be the name on every headline? Max Alper is best known for La Meme Young, his popular Instagram account turning niche experimental music jokes into dank memes. But a deep interest in music pedagogy is at the heart of everything Alper does, including his non-profit Sonic Arts For All!, an organization that puts music technology directly into the hands of K-12 and special needs students. We talk about the importance of creativity, memes as pedagogy, the limits of traditional music education, and how to democratize music technology. Frontier(s) (2007) Xavier Gans' horror psychological film tells the story of a group of criminals from Paris lodge at a country inn run by neo-Nazis. The film was released quickly to a NC-17 rating and shortly sold on DVD in an unrated version which was considered too intense for cinema release. It explores the "untended elements of society, the sections which are allowed to remain in realities that no longer exist in urban settings." Will Millar is participating in the Boston Marathon. Tough Ruck 26.2 is group of military and civilians whose sole purpose is to Ruck in honor and in memory of our Fallen Service Members, Police, Firefighters and EMTs, while raising funds to support military families in times of need. We will walk a 26.2 mile certified course with our Rucks and carry the names of our Fallen comrades with us. On April 15, 2013, the Tough Rucker were at the finish line of the Boston Marathon and joined the first responders to help those that were injured by the horrific blasts. They truly exemplify the best of what our Nation is. Today the Ruck happens the Sunday before Boston Marathon Monday in Concord, Massachusetts on the original trails of the Revolutionary War. Tough Ruck is the only Ruck march partnered with the Boston Marathon and finishers are awarded the official Boston Marathon Medals and receive recognition from the Boston Athletic Association. This week, we welcome our old friend Sam Cohen back on the show! Things kick off with two Crewinds: NORTH BY NORTHWEST (4:09) and CITIZEN KANE (7:23), both of which Evan saw on Filmstruck. If you have classic films that have been on your watchlist for years, FilmStruck is here to help (not a sponsored message, we just dig the service). Next up, Kris (pardon his scratchy post-illness voice) catches up with an old Soviet classic WALKING THE STREETS OF MOSCOW (12:30), a film by Georgiy Daneliya that brings the heart and soul of the French New Wave to 1960s Russia. Sam then talks BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE (21:16), bad times that were unfortunately had by the audience as well. Kris gets everyone excited for A STAR IS BORN (31:41) which is going to win a whole bunch of Oscars and that's okay. Evan then finishes things off with THE SISTERS BROTHERS (44:20), the latest stark, brutal Western about the lawlessness of the early American Frontier.

Prepare yourselves for true depravity, because this time around, we're taking on Corey Taylor, vocalist of Slipknot and Stone Sour, and his book Seven Deadly Sins. Two men alone could never take on such a large number (to say nothing of the seven newly proposed sins or the main one he admits he forgot to add), so J. and Collision welcome back juicy guest Lemon! We laugh, grimace, yell, and learn as Corey Taylor spools out a deeply failed attempt to be a stand-up comedian (inexplicably in written form) as he attempts to answer the question "What does Corey Taylor think about things" and actually just answers "What would happen if a Hot Topic got hit by magic lightning and turned into a really talkative guy on the bus". Episode highlights include the most successful Plot in 60 Seconds of all time, J. and Collision slowly succumbing to Bud Lite Lime-A-Rita poisoning, and the amazing contortions required to find high points in this book. Episode lowlights include the prose and ideas of Corey Taylor, a man who would very much like you to know that he has Had Sex. A lot of times, and in all of the ways.
