Live from Terrificon, this panel reunites Ralph Macchio, Ann Nocenti, and John Romita Jr. to revisit one of Daredevil's most memorable creative periods. Ralph sets the stage with behind-the-scenes stories of the handoff from writer Denny O'Neil to Frank Miller, and ultimately to Ann Nocenti, charting the evolution of the Man Without Fear through shifting creative visions.Ann and John share how the grit, danger, and energy of New York City's real nightlife shaped their take on Matt Murdock's world, infusing it with street-level authenticity and vivid, flawed characters like Typhoid Mary and Shotgun. The conversation takes a wild detour as the trio recalls their “freaky” trip to Paris representing Marvel — a surreal adventure filled with culture shock, unexpected encounters, and a dash of chaos. It's a lively mix of comics history, personal anecdotes, and the creative alchemy that kept Daredevil swinging high.
Curtis Sliwa, Republican running for Mayor of New York City, joins Sid live in-studio to discuss his belief that his Democrat opponent Zohran Mamdani's behaviors and policies would jeopardize the city if he is elected come November. Sliwa shares his own experiences and campaign strategies, including his stance against non-citizen voting and sanctuary cities, and his advocacy for no-kill animal shelters, which resonates well with voters, especially women. The conversation also touches on historical underdog victories, drawing a parallel with Sliwa's own uphill battle in the mayoral race. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau and 1/4 Black Garrett are away, so guest hosts Derek Richards and Matt McClowry join Angela in the studio. The show opens with commentary on Amy Schumer's back surgery and a headline-making moment from NYC mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani alongside Elizabeth Warren. The conversation moves into the realities of dating apps and a viral story about a woman engaged to an AI chatbot. The panel uses the story to explore loneliness, parasocial connections, and how technology is shaping modern relationships and even therapy. They turn to a report from the UK about undercover police officers posing as joggers to target catcalling, debating whether the approach addresses the problem or misses the mark. In a comedic “Ask Dr. Steve” segment, the group finds out how intimate activity compares to a workout when it comes to burning calories. They react to the viral “watermelon challenge,” revisit early internet oddities, and end with a playful look at childhood-inspired coping tools for adults. The murder of Patrolman Masterson started out a a commonplace peak-easy stick-up in which a police officer and a girl were wounded, at 2 :55am on the morning of January 31st, 1927, in New York City. Masterson died on the evening of the same and was buried with full departmental honors three days later. But it was anything but commonplace. In fact, an accidentally overheard conversation leading up the shooting, caused one poor man to go insane...CALL 888-MURDERY 888-687-3379 to tell YOUR Kinda Murdery story and inspire and episode of the show!Sources: https://archive.org/details/TrueDetectiveFeb1930/page/n27/mode/2upBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/kinda-murdery--5496890/support.

Nicole Tapscott, Chief Commercial Officer at Knix, dissects the anatomy of category disruption in an era where authenticity trumps algorithms. Drawing from two decades of scaling high-growth consumer brands like Casper and Mejuri, Tapscott reveals how Knix has redefined the intimate apparel industry into a movement of destigmatization through authentic celebrity partnerships. The conversation unpacks strategic insights on navigating the post-DTC landscape, premium retail expansions, data-driven personalization, and omnichannel orchestration—essential intelligence for building next-generation brands that thrive on vulnerability. PLUS: We talk Knix's latest campaign with Kristen Bell and the first U.S. store opening in New York City.Customers Are Already Telling You the AnswerKey takeaways:Next-gen brands prioritize channel agnosticism over DTC exclusivity - Success comes from meeting customers where they are, whether that's TikTok Shop, Nordstrom, or intimate retail experiences designed for vulnerable conversations.Cultural barrier-breaking requires authentic celebrity partnerships - Kristen Bell's decade-long customer relationship with Knix created campaign authenticity that audiences could immediately sense, proving that real relationships trump transactional endorsements.Product innovation emerges from customer vulnerability - Knix's best product developments, from ultra-thin technology to natural fiber collections, stem directly from customer feedback about their most personal needs and experiences.Physical retail serves emotional commerce needs - In categories requiring trust and education, stores become "vulnerability corners" where trained staff facilitate intimate conversations that e-commerce cannot replicate.Mission-driven marketing survives economic pressure - As consumer spending tightens, brands with clear purpose and authentic intention will outperform those focused solely on transactions.Key Quotes:"DTC is no longer a differentiator. It's just table stakes. These brands are no longer defined by how they sell their product, but why they sell, and how they integrate into a customer's life." - Nicole Tapscott [00:08:35]"The best campaigns are based on a true insight and great representation... someone that really represents that message in a real authentic way." - Nicole Tapscott [00:15:51]"Listen to the customer. They're usually telling you the answer... The if you build it, they will come mentality of former businesses does not work. You actually have to build it where they want it." - Nicole Tapscott [00:51:16]Associated Links:Check out Future Commerce on YouTubeCheck out Future Commerce+ for exclusive content and save on merch and printSubscribe to Insiders and The Senses to read more about what we are witnessing in the commerce worldListen to our other episodes of Future CommerceHave any questions or comments about the show? I appreciate you taking the time with me on the show floor. I know that these shows take a lot of hard work, a lot of determination, money, and grit to execute. If you are thinking about exhibiting at a trade show as part of your wholesale growth strategy, then you absolutely must join us for Paper Camp. We have a ton of experience exhibiting ourselves, and we have guided tens of thousands of brands through the process. In fact, we have a lot of people who come to us after they've exhibited at a trade show on their own, and it didn't go the way they wanted it to. They ended up with low sales, a lot of stress, and little confidence in how they were presenting their brand. After Paper Camp, our alumni frequently report higher sales, higher average order values, and stronger reorder rates than non-alumni. Round 46 is currently open for enrollment at http://prooftoproduct.com/papercamp We only run this program twice a year, and we sell out every single, single time. This week Tyler Anbinder joins in to talk about his experiences advising on Gangs of New York as well as his work tracing the Irish diaspora.About our guest:Tyler Anbinder is a specialist in nineteenth-century America and the history of immigration and ethnicity in American life. His latest book, published in March 2024 by Little, Brown, is entitled Plentiful Country: The Great Potato Famine and the Making of Irish New York. That project's digital history component, created with research assistance from more than two dozen GW students, can be found at http://beyondragstoriches.org. His most recent book before Plentiful Country was City of Dreams (2016), a history of immigrant life in New York City from the early 1600s to the present. And prior to that, in 2001, he published Five Points, a history of nineteenth-century America's most infamous immigrant neighborhood, focusing in particular on tenement life, inter-ethnic relations, and ethnic politics. His first book, Nativism and Slavery (1992), analyzed the role of the anti-immigrant, anti-Catholic Know Nothing party in the political crisis that led to the Civil War. Professor Anbinder has won fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and held the Fulbright Thomas Jefferson Chair in American History at the University of Utrecht. He has received awards for his scholarship from the Organization of American Historians, the Columbia University School of Journalism, and the journal Civil War History. When consumer trust is more fragile than ever, how can brands, particularly in highly scrutinized categories like infant nutrition, utilize the latest approaches to not only build trust but also deepen consumer relationships? Agility requires not only adapting to evolving consumer expectations and technological advancements but also maintaining ethical and transparent practices, especially when dealing with sensitive topics such as infant health. It also demands a willingness to experiment, learn, and iterate quickly in response to market feedback and emerging trends. Today, we're going to talk about building trust in a digital age, navigating the complexities of launching a purpose-driven CPG brand, and redefining what “healthy” means for a new generation of parents. To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome, Meika Hollender, Chief Marketing Officer at Nara Organics. About Meika Hollender Meika Hollender is the Chief Marketing Officer of Nara Organics, a pioneering brand redefining infant nutrition with its first-of-its-kind USDA-certified organic whole milk formula. Grove, a certified B Corp, is on a mission to move Beyond Plastic and be 100% plastic-free by 2025. Meika first made her mark as the Co-Founder and CEO of Sustain, the pioneering brand of natural sexual wellness products for women. After growing Sustain into a category leader, the company was acquired by Grove in 2019. Meika stayed on as President of Sustain while stepping into a broader role at Grove, where she brought her passion for product innovation, social impact, and women's health to a wider CPG platform. She holds an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business and is the author of Get on Top, published by Simon & Schuster in 2018.
