New York City has always had its share of underground mysteries, but this week we're heading straight into the manholes. Reports of so-called "mole people" living beneath the streets have resurfaced, raising questions about what really lurks below the Big Apple. Are there hidden communities thriving in forgotten tunnels, or is this another urban legend that's grown legs and wandered into the darkness?Meanwhile, a very different kind of underground market may have accidentally made its way above ground. A recall has been issued for chocolate gummy bears after they were allegedly found to contain an unexpected ingredient: a prescription-strength erectile dysfunction drug. That's right. Somewhere between snack time and pharmacy time, things got extremely awkward. From hidden civilizations and urban legends to recalled aphrodisiac gummies and accidental pharmaceutical adventures, this week's Hysteria 51 delivers another dose of weird news that's stranger than fiction and significantly harder to explain to your pharmacist. The truth is out there, but you won't find it here.Links & Resources

Guest: Caroline KernHost:  Christopher KardambikisRecorded on March 2, 2026Caroline Kern, formerly known as Caroline Paquita, is a visual artist living in New York City. Kern has been self-publishing since 1996 and formally started Pegacorn Press after purchasing her first Risograph stencil duplicator in 2009. Since then, she has released over forty artist books, zines, publications, and printed ephemera representing twenty-five other artists, as well as her own work. Titles are collected and held in personal and institutional collections worldwide and she has exhibited at over 50 art books, small press, and zine fairs since 2012. From 2023-2024, Kern helped create and develop the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair and served as a co-director for the first two years before resigning due to ongoing health issues from Long Covid. Kern's publishing practice and ethos are heavily informed by mid-1990s to early 2000s DIY punk culture, of which she was an active member through touring with her bands and zine making. Many of the artists she has worked with were met through her travels over the years and fostering those relationships— and the communities in which they flourished—is one of the driving forces behind Pegacorn Press. She views publishing as a vehicle for investigation, experimentation, connection, and an accessible means to reach audiences beyond traditional art spaces.https://www.carolinekern.org

Donald Trump was roundly booed in New York City outside of Madison Square Garden on his way to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. Trump was booed again once he was spotted inside the venue. Rachel Maddow shares footage of the booing and remarks on the way Trump has arranged to benefit financially from his other sports preoccupation, a UFC fight on the White House grounds. Rachel Maddow outlines Donald Trump's desperation tactics to delegitimize elections in California, trying to convince his followers that a grand conspiracy is responsible for his electoral failures in that state and not the clear, obvious explanation that California just has more Democratic voters. Jacob Soboroff, host of Connect on MS NOW, reports live from the L.A. County Ballot Processing Center to show exactly how the California voting process works, contrary to the misinformation of Donald Trump and his supporting media. Rachel Maddow lists example after example of people or organizations giving large sums of money to Donald Trump's interests and subsequently receiving some favorable treatment from Trump. The UFC fight on the White House lawn stands out as one of the more egregious examples, with Trump essentially giving himself a birthday present from the American people. Brendan Ballou, founder of the Public Integrity Project, talks with Rachel about his lawsuit to stop Trump's UFC event. Rep. Joyce Beatty talks with Rachel Maddow about her role in defending the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts from Donald Trump's destructive force. Want more of Rachel? Plus, new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is about to face his first real test: will he cut interest rates? Elon Musk is on track to become the world's first trillionaire once SpaceX goes public. Mark played some highlights from Scott Pelley's recent New York Times interview, digging into what's changed for Pelley since leaving CBS. The Knicks, meanwhile, are raking in serious cash. And what's Luigi Mangione's sister's new gig? The speculation is on. Mark interviews streaming host Bill O'Reilly. Bill explained why so many stars and big names love sitting courtside at Knicks games. They also talked about new laws in some states banning the words “mother” and “father.” According to Bill, Scott Pelley has become more noble since leaving 60 Minutes. And as for NBC's Kristin Welker, she might be taking a page from Pelley's book, judging by the way she pressed Trump during her Meet the Press interview.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this week's MBA Admissions podcast we began by discussing the current state of the MBA admissions season. We are continuing to see a few MBA programs release their final decisions, and candidates reporting their admissions from waitlists. We anticipate more waitlist movement in the weeks ahead. Graham noted that Clear Admit is planning its MBA Essay Workshop events series that is scheduled for July. These events will bring together the majority of the top MBA programs to discuss both their written essay prompts as well as their video essays. Early signups are here: https://www.clearadmit.com/events Graham highlighted a Fridays from the Frontline feature from a Haas student who discusses their recently launched AI Activation Playbook concept. Graham also noted a new admissions tip which focuses on identifying the right MBA programs to target. This led to a discussion on the Admissions Academy series, as well as the usefulness of the Clear Admit admissions bot, for helping identify MBA programs based on a candidate's resume. Graham continued with the Real Humans Alumni series. This week focuses on three alumni: from Johnson / BCG, Fuqua / JP Morgan and Kellogg / Bain. For this week, for the candidate profile review portion of the show, Alex selected two ApplyWire entries and one DecisionWire entry. This week's first MBA admissions candidate has a GRE of 335, and a strong career record in real estate. We think they should aim high. This week's second MBA applicant has a strong GPA of 8.65, from India. They work in consulting. We would like them to develop a more robust long-term goal. This week's final MBA candidate is deciding between Johnson and Stern. They want investment banking in New York City. This episode was recorded in Paris, France and Cornwall, England. It was produced and engineered by the fabulous Dennis Crowley in Philadelphia, USA. Thanks to all of you who've been joining us and please remember to rate and review this show wherever you listen!

Crossing the Bronx is an historical literary novel set primarily in the 1950s in The Bronx. It is a modern retelling of the Jacob and Esau story from Genesis. The narrative that propels the story forward concerns the destruction of a neighborhood in the guise of progress. Jay and Eric, the sons of Ike (an Italian Jew), and Rebekeh, (a Mountain Jew), are estranged-as are their parents-and find themselves on opposite sides of a bitter struggle that pits those in power against the defenseless people of a local community.Eric has aligned himself with his father Ike, who by day is a cop-and at other times works surreptitiously for a mobbed-up construction company engaged in major projects transforming New York City-while his younger brother Jay is allied with his mother and with a neighborhood group fighting to preserve its very soul. Their fractious relationship speaks to the issues of how families split apart, and whether or not the pieces can ever be put back together. In addition to sustained tension-filled action, Crossing the Bronx is a story of romance, commitments, beliefs, and triumphs over adversities (lies, theft, murder, concealment, prejudice). Through vivid descriptions, perceptive insights, humor and sensitivity, the reader identifies with the characters who come to life in a realistic fashion to illustrate who we are, how we behave, and what causes us to change. The novel is fast-paced, with uncompromising realism, reflecting the unrelenting tension between antagonists and the anxieties that overwhelm those without power. The underbelly of the criminal and political world is evidenced by brutality, rapaciousness, and a never-ending desire to seek retribution. A love story between Jay and his girlfriend Francesca counter-balances the grimness to show how some people can overcome the odds stacked against them by their birth and places of origin. Smart, savvy women (Francesca, Rebekah, Francesca's grandmother "Nonna Ebrea"-who thinks she is descended from Conversos-and Jay's therapist Dr. Leah Silverman) provide a strong counterbalance to the lies, thefts, beatings, concealments, murders, and prejudice evidenced by the men.It is populated by colorful Italian, Irish, Black, Puerto Rican, and Jewish characters from a variety of different backgrounds; the novel sparkles with dialogue that is representative of their respective cultures

Oscar and Emmy-nominated actress Rosie Perez takes us on the journey of the birth of salsa in Nueva York and the rebellious, seductive and political label that defined it: Fania Records. The 1960s brings social and political change to the world and to New York City, where a young Johnny Pacheco keeps people dancing with his orchestra and charanga music. The Dominican musician is also going through a divorce and his lawyer, Jerry Masucci, happens to be a fan of Johnny’s music. They formed Fania Records, changing music forever.
