On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, the Iranian regime is gearing up for a prolonged showdown with President Trump by keeping their economy functioning just enough to withstand a drawn-out U.S. military campaign. As Gen. Jack Keane says, they think they have the upper hand in the Strait of Hormuz and will become more violent as the midterm elections approach. Keane says using economic levers is good but must also play the military card. But is allowing the regime to stall for time the right play? Why not arm the Iranian people and take out Iran's infrastructure, starting with Kharg Island? This is also playing into the hands of the woke-reich neo-fascist isolationists. By calling for American withdrawal now, they give aid and comfort to the enemy. And letting Iran think they have control over the Strait sends the wrong message to countries like China. What will the U.S. if the Chinese block the South China Sea? Also, why are younger people so drawn to socialism? We've abandoned the great thinkers of the not-so-distant past who explained capitalism and individual freedom: Buckley, Friedman, Sowell. Online influencers are pushing a sort of conservatism-lite, where they call for government intervention and a nationalist, populist form of common-good conservatism. It's actually socialism lite, but younger people don't know that. This is like the old Russian psyop: convince the young to ignore, even condemn, older generations. The young are told they know more than older people, they don't understand what you're doing through. Unfortunately, right now it's working. These pseudo-conservative isolationists sound a lot like Bernie Sanders, Chris Murphy, even Mamdani. Unfortunately, in this day and age, people want to be heard more than they want to learn. Then, Democratic Socialist leader Frances Gill was pressed on the consequences of getting rid of police and prisons. What would happen to rapists, she was asked. Instead of answering the question, Gill said she didn't want to talk "hypotheticals." Well, if a woman is raped, that's not hypothetical: that's real life. What Gill can't say out loud is the real reason DSAs want to eliminate police and prisons: so they can impose their own security services, loyal to their regime. Civil liberties were suspended during COVID in the name of the common good. If DSAs continue to get elected, we know what to expect. Finally, the clown show that is New York: a judge has blocked Mamdani's pied-a'-terre tax after NYC homeowners sued. Here's a guy who's never run a hot dog stand who thinks taxing rich people who provide jobs is a good idea. President Trump ripped Mamdani and NY Governor Kathy Hochul, calling this "amateur hour" and dangerous "experiment" that will destroy what was once a great City and State. It's for anyone tired of Steve Bannon trying to demoralize us and flood the zone with sh*t. It's about concrete steps to stay grounded and focused in a world of chaos, to align your deepest needs and dreams with a higher purpose, creating world domination for the collective good. My own journey begins with being raised on stories of the government trying to kill you, and blame you for the crime, helped by Western corruption to cover-up the torture and murder. I am of course speaking of my Ukrainian heritage and the Holodomor, Stalin's genocide famine in Ukraine. In all my years of studying my family's history and the two monsters, Hitler and Stalin, who drove that history, I look back on America's own, and see the authoritarianism that established this country. The white supremacy blood lust terrorizing Black Americans, Native Americans, mass discrimination and violence against immigrants, and the list goes on. Trump, Stephen Miller, Peter Thiel, and too many others carry on that violent legacy. That's why they're aligned with the Kremlin, which sees Ukrainians as inferior.  In Ukrainian culture, we're taught to fight for our very lives, our voice, our art, our culture, our language, because no one else will. They want to erase us, so we must do the opposite and shine, shine, shine. In Ukrainian culture, art is literally survival. The coded language of poetry preserves historical truth, our shared humanity, our courage and defiance.  Life is incredibly stubborn. Creativity is how we fortify our resilience. A Reasonable Guide for Unreasonable Women provides 20 concrete steps for women–who are the favorite target of fascists, because they fear the fight in us–and their allies–to dream big for themselves and the kind of world we want to live in. That is how we reset the culture, overcome their darkness with our light, and gather our people to create a better world. We are the alternative to their dystopian vision for our future, a future that belongs to us.  To better get to new my new and most personal book, I put together this Q&A:  Empowerment can be a privilege. Many nonwhite women, especially immigrants, are juggling several jobs just to survive. How does this book make space for different lived experiences A Reasonable Guide for Unreasonable Women is based on my own lived experience of being raised in a Ukrainian immigrant family. My grandmothers both worked as maids to survive. So I take nothing for granted when it comes to the diversity of demands on women today. Throughout the book, I share wisdom and insights from women across history. There's also a recommended reading guide in the book, featuring an incredible list of women authors, like Mikki Kendall and trans activist Raquel Willis. I also share a troubling story about a Black mentor telling me to get a white man to join me for my pitch meetings and just sit there. I'm sad to say it did make a difference.  Planting seeds of hope and change – whether that's through launching a dream project like a film, book, business, non-profit, or some other ambitious goal – can be a grind. Does this book highlight organizations on the frontlines doing that unglamorous work in the shadows, helping us build that collective power?  Yes, absolutely! And I made sure that the blurbs (endorsements) featured at the front of the book included voices from grassroots groups, to promote their efforts to a wider audience. Julie Delaurier of Rise and Resist began as an organizer in ACT UP and helped organize Tesla Takedown and No Kings. She also organizes to track and resist ICE raids in NYC. She read the book and provided a heartfelt endorsement. So did civil rights leader Maya Wiley, President of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and Holley Atkinson of the grassroots group the Media and Democracy Project bringing legal challenges to the existence of Fox News. Isn't self-help ego-driven?  A Reasonable Guide is all about collective action. Individual choices produce collective action. Think of A Reasonable Guide for Unreasonable Women as Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way meets Timothy Snyder's On Tyranny. Self-knowledge isn't the end goal here; it's the foundation for knowing where you can make an impact. It cites women across movements and their advice on how to stay creative and build power in a time of mass destruction.  But isn't this focus on the self just new age nonsense which is a slippery slope to fascism, given reports of new age online movements being breeding grounds for fascist cult recruitment? This book follows an ancient tradition of taking on an empire with the power of ideas. Ideas cannot be killed. And you cannot stop an idea whose time has come.  Know thyself was popularized by the ancient Greeks, most famously by Socrates who was a champion of women for that time. The Greeks were conquered by the sadistic and corrupt Roman Empire. A couple hundred years later, the Greeks conquered them right back through the power of self-knowledge and ideas. Greek became the dominant language of the Roman Empire. Self-knowledge is not ego. The book walks you through steps to think creatively and conquer doubt in order to build meaningful collective action.  I had to produce my film Mr. Jones myself because no one wanted it. Mr. Jones was a film to bring historical justice and truth to a massive genocide by the Kremlin, covered up for generations, including with the help of Western corruption. A former Ambassador to Ukraine called Mr. Jones Ukraine's Schindler's List. A screening was shut down in Moscow, and Memorial, Russia's once largest NGO that dared to screen it, was liquidated. There were death threats and harassment during the making of the film, but still the team and I fought on, holding on to the power of our creativity and voices. That is what A Reasonable Guide for Unreasonable Women is about: remembering the power of your voice in a world that wants to silence you and kill you. Randy Mastro, attorney and government official who served as first deputy mayor of New York City under Mayor Eric Adams from March to December 2025, joins Sid to discuss a judge on Staten Island temporarily blocking implementation of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's new pied-à-terre tax following a lawsuit brought by a group of homeowners Mastro is representing that alleges the city bungled the rollout by including many who live full-time in their homes on a list of 900,000 people who could be subject to the tax, as well as sending letters to 17,000 others.

There have been layoffs across the industry and many newsrooms have cut back on the resources available to journalists. But workers have also organized unions, including high-profile campaigns at Condé Nast and The New Yorker, and started worker-owned media like Hell Gate and Defector. This month on “Meet the BIPOC Press”, Laura Flanders is joined by three journalists who have lived through the struggles and are a part of the solutions. Alex Sujong Laughlin is a supervising producer and co-owner at Defector; Esther Wang is a worker-owner at Hell Gate; and Tammy Kim helped organize unions at Al Jazeera America and The New Yorker, where she is a contributing writer. What if some of the people we think of as having the most unconventional sex lives are actually having some of the clearest conversations about intimacy? Because kink is about a lot more than whips, handcuffs, or what happens in a dungeon. At its best, it requires people to talk openly about things many couples struggle to discuss at all: What do I want? What are my boundaries? What makes me feel safe? What am I curious about? What am I afraid to admit turns me on? And can I trust you with a part of myself I don't show everyone else? Those are intimacy questions. And you don't have to have any interest in kink to learn from the answers. On this episode of The Language of Love, I'm joined by Amanda Dames, known as The Kink Consultant. Amanda is a sexologist, Somatica-certified sex and relationship coach, podcast host, and former New York City dominatrix. And her story is wild. Amanda found her way into New York's BDSM world almost by accident and eventually became a highly sought-after dominatrix working with powerful, successful men and women. People who spent their days being in charge would walk through her door desperate for something they rarely got anywhere else: permission to stop being in control. Then Amanda's own relationship to power took an unexpected turn. She met the man who would become her husband at a kink event, and the woman who had built a career being dominant discovered that, with him, she wanted to surrender. But this conversation isn't really about dungeons or labels. It's about what Amanda learned inside that world that applies to the rest of us. We talk about why so many of us hide our desires from the person we love most, how shame quietly follows us into the bedroom, and why feeling safe enough to say “this is what I want” can be an incredibly intimate act. Amanda also shares practices from the kink community that I think many couples could benefit from, including negotiating desires and boundaries before sex, checking in during an experience, and having an “aftercare” conversation afterward about what felt good, what didn't, and what you might want differently next time. And we get into something even bigger: power. Why can surrender feel so freeing for someone who carries enormous responsibility in the rest of their life? Why do some women crave the ability to soften and relinquish control while simultaneously fearing what that vulnerability requires? And what happens when you trust someone enough to show them a part of yourself you've been editing, hiding, or judging for years? Elle is a baby-scoop-era domestic adoptee born in NYC in May of 1969. She was adopted 2 months later into what was supposed to be a stable, religious family. For as long as she could remember, she was aware that both she and her older brother were adopted, but the details ended there. It was understood that questions were not welcome regarding the story of their adoptions.  Growing up, Elle always knew she was radically different from her adoptive family, both physically and in personality and character. With violence and dysfunction in the home, ceasing somewhat when her adoptive father left the family when she was in grade school, she could never understand why people would say, “You should be grateful”.  This tumultuous upbringing and lack of familial connection fueled her years-long search for identity and her birth family. Encountering many twists and turns along the way as well as some heartache and joy, Elle was able to meet with some biological family members while being repeatedly rejected by others, a situation that continues to this day.  In a story that spans over 30 years, Elle was able to get most of the answers she was looking for and a small bit of closure. “Coming out of the fog” has allowed her to find healing and to assist others by sharing her story and lived experience. Tragically Hip Day in Toronto. 'The Luxury' out of the gate, a tour debut in the encore, and a family of four in seats a text message unlocked.DescriptionAugust 10th, 2016. The Air Canada Centre - the first of three Toronto nights on the Man Machine Poem Tour, and the day Ernie from Denville, New Jersey woke up in his hotel room, flipped on the news, and heard the mayor declare it Tragically Hip Day before he had even gotten out of bed. He had flown up alone for his first-ever Canadian show, eleven club nights deep. The city was already celebrating.Then the lights come up and it is 'The Luxury'. Ernie had waited eleven shows to hear it. Jeff from Vaughan, following this band since 1992, can count the times he has heard it live on one hand. Two songs later comes 'Fiddler's Green', and Scott from Huntsville is looking at grown men crying as far as he can see, understanding exactly how the night is going to go. Third song in. They could do whatever they wanted.The roads in are half the story. Everybody got the same email on the Tuesday morning after the May long weekend - the news of Gord Downie's diagnosis, and a tour nobody knew how to feel about. Scott locked down Kingston hotel rooms before tickets even went on sale, then sweated out the Ticketmaster scramble for four Toronto seats - the morning after watching John Mann and Spirit of the West play a fundraiser at the Horseshoe Tavern, two Canadian heartbreaks stacked onto one walk home. Jeff sent a hockey dad four paragraphs about his life following The Hip, hoping to bring his wife and two kids, and got the answer every fan dreams about: they're yours. Which is how, during 'Fifty-Mission Cap', with Bill Barilko's banner up in the rafters, Jeff came to be filming a verse and then swinging the camera around to catch both his kids singing it back.There is a lot of night in here. 'Nautical Disaster' landing in the first encore as a tour debut (confirmed via setlist.fm, and backed by the notebook Ernie filled out that same evening). The crowd carrying the Toronto line in 'Bobcaygeon', the way Scott remembers it. The “Phantom Power” pair that closed the building down. And then the back half of the conversation jumps ahead to August 20th - Scott behind the stage in Kingston, not breathing until the scanner turned his print-off ticket green, Jeff front row in front of Robby Baker for show number 93, and Ernie back in New Jersey with the Kingston broadcast on the big screen and his son beside him.Somewhere in the middle of it, Scott sums up the entire summer in one sentence: “I've never been so excited for something I didn't want to happen.” So there's that.The panelErnie from Denville, New Jersey - eleven Hip shows in clubs from New York City to Syracuse before this one, his first in Canada and his first in an arena, solo in section 313 and never once feeling alone. His daughter has since become one of The Hip's biggest listeners on Apple Music. This week, LexisNexis announced the opening of its Customer Innovation Lab in New York City — a physical space where legal professionals, LexisNexis engineers, and AI companies such as OpenAI and Amazon Web Services sit in the same room and build legal AI together, in real time.   The company is calling it a new model for how legal AI gets built and shipped: Instead of developing products internally and asking customers to validate them afterward, customers bring their pain points into the lab, engineers code against them on the spot, and prototypes that pass muster can move into Lexis+ with Protégé in a matter of weeks.   Our guest today is the person leading that effort: Greg Dickason, chief technology officer of LexisNexis Legal & Professional. Dickason joined LexisNexis in 2019 and previously ran the company's Asia-Pacific business, where he launched Lexis+ AI in that region. Before LexisNexis, he was chief technology officer at CoreLogic.   In a conversation with host Bob Ambrogi recorded just ahead of the launch, Dickason explains what actually happens inside the lab as engineers code live alongside customers, and how this differs from the customer input LexisNexis has always said drives its product development.
