In the 19th century, New York City was one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. However, it was still a very young city, and as such, the city's leaders were able to take a step back and plan what exactly they wanted the future of the city to be. What they decided was that the city needed a park. Not just any park, but a great park that took up an enormous part of Manhattan Island. This week: Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary in the race for New York City mayor. Felix Salmon, Emily Peck and Elizabeth Spiers discuss the alarmist reactions from business leaders to the Mamdani's win and why he's hardly the threat to capitalism they make him out to be. Then, Trump has turned his sights on Jay Powell once again, threatening to prematurely name his successor for Fed Chair. The hosts break down why this “shadow chair” tactic is unlikely to work. And finally, mega-billionaire Jeff Bezos is finally marrying his beloved Lauren Sanchez in an over-the-top, star-studded wedding in Venice. Whatever happened to stealth wealth and quiet luxury? Working weekends, flights on Air Force One, and jockeying for position to ask press secretary Karoline Leavitt a question in the briefing room is all a part of life as a White House correspondent, according to Mary Margaret Olohan. As a member of the “new media” in the White House, Olohan says the interactions between the corporate media reporters and journalists like herself are "by and large been pretty polite," but notes little differences between the two groups remain. For example, new media do not have a permanent seat in the briefing room, and Olohan jokes it is a little like the “Titanic because there is the elite first class and they sit in the seats, and then in the aisles you have the second class of the citizens who don't get seats.” Olohan, author of “Detrans: True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult,” spent years reporting on culture issues, including for The Daily Signal, before becoming the White House correspondent for The Daily Wire. She joins the “Problematic Women” podcast to explain the dynamic between the new and corporate media in the briefing room, and to share what will surprise most Americans about working as a White House correspondent. Also on today's show, we discuss what Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani's victory in New York City's mayoral primary means for the Big Apple and the Democrat Party. Plus, we react to Brett Cooper joining Fox News as a contributor. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

His crimes plunged the city into a panic and unleashed one of the largest manhunts in New York history.Berkowitz was a difficult and occasionally violent child. His erratic behaviour, which began after the death of his adoptive mother in 1967, intensified when his adoptive father remarried in 1971 and moved to Florida without him. In 1971 Berkowitz joined the army, and he became an excellent marksman before he left the service in 1974. According to Berkowitz's diary, he set some 1,500 fires in New York City in the mid-1970s.But was there something else going on?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Democratic New Yorkers went to the polls this week amid a heat wave and chose 33-year-old Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani as their mayoral candidate. The win has spawned meltdowns from both sides of the political aisle, but it raises an important question for Democrats. What does this upset mean for the future of the party? Then, Emergency Medicine Physician Dr. Dana Kass joins The Weekend to discuss Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s plan to walk back vaccine recommendations.

Final Thoughts of the Week: US - Iran Ceasefire * LA Mayoral Race * NY Mayoral Race
In this thought-provoking episode of Spellbreakers, Matt Trump revisits the gritty legacy of New York City through the lens of John Carpenter's Escape from New York and the recent Democratic primary upheaval. He dives deep into the election of Zoran Kwame Mamdani, a self-described socialist whose sweeping proposals, like rent control and prison releases, spark fresh questions about whether New York is sliding back into its infamous chaos. Matt unpacks the legendary Kitty Genovese murder, dissecting how the New York Times fabricated the infamous bystander narrative that branded the city as apathetic and doomed. He shows how this distorted reporting became a psychological weapon used to reshape public perception of urban life for decades. The discussion then pivots to cultural memories of 9/11, the strange urgency to police criticism of Islam afterward, and the enduring narrative manipulations that drive public fear and division. Part true crime, part cultural critique, and part cautionary tale, this episode challenges listeners to question how media shapes reality, and whether today's narratives are any more trustworthy.

James T. and Producer Aaron navigate through another week of news and what a week it was. From the bombings in Iran, to the liberal media denials, to the mess of a mayoral race in NYC, and somehow, a rap battle.

As New York City celebrates Zohran Mamdani's primary win, MAGA, Wall Street, and a handful of Democrats succumb to socialist paranoia. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth lashes out at the press after CNN reports that last weekend's airstrikes barely set back Iran's nuclear program. President Trump pressures Congress to pass his Big Bullshit Bill by July 4th, despite a new ruling from the Senate Parliamentarian that could sink it altogether. Jon and Dan react to Senator Mitch McConnell's claim that "people back home" will "get over" Medicaid cuts, the administration's desperate attempt to make their Iran strikes look like a success, and offer Zohran-skeptical Democrats some honest advice about what their voters want. Then, Jon talks to Congressman Robert Garcia, the new top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, about investigating ICE and why he thinks Stephen Miller is the "biggest piece of shit in the country."
On today's episode, Andy and DJ are joined in the studio by ultra-endurance athlete and author Eli Wehbe. They discuss the Liver King being freed after threatening Joe Rogan, NYC Mayor Eric Adams announcing his re-election bid following Mamdani's win in the Democratic primary, and whether Caitlin Clark may be finished after enduring a year and a half of public beatings in a league full of women who despise her.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth blasts the media for downplaying the success of US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, accusing reporters of anti-Trump bias and relying on misleading leaks. The Trump administration plans to restrict Congress's access to classified intel. Prosecutors in the Sean "Diddy" Combs trial tell jurors the rapper led a criminal enterprise, pointing to drug distribution, arson, and sex trafficking as predicate crimes. Republican consultant Ryan Girdusky gives an exclusive deep dive on 33-year-old Muslim democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, Democrat nominee for NYC mayor. Glenn reacts to the insane statement Democrat Jamaal Bowman made while on CNN, where he claimed black people are unhealthy because white people use racial slurs. Is this why Glenn Beck has struggled with weight issues his whole life? A listener calls in and asks Glenn to elaborate on why he had a recent guest on whom he had previously warned about. Glenn and Jason Buttrill discuss the most radical tax policies of New York City's Democratic mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani. Will these policies destroy NYC if he's elected? Glenn takes calls from listeners to gauge their feelings about current events. Glenn explains why calls to deport Zohran Mamdani are wrong. We have to teach the correct values, not just silence differing opinions. Delta Hospice Society Executive Director Angelina Ireland joins to expose how the Canadian government took over her health care clinic after it refused to euthanize people at their request. Glenn and Jason review some of the various SCOTUS decisions that were released today, which gave President Trump some major wins and some significant losses from the court. On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, the Senate parliamentarian is blocking Medicaid changes to waste, fraud, and abuse in the big, beautiful bill. House Republicans proposed tightening Medicaid eligibility with work requirements and restrictions on illegal aliens, but the Senate parliamentarian deemed these changes outside budget reconciliation, exposing the bill to a filibuster. The Senate's decision not to challenge this ruling perpetuates Medicaid misuse. Additionally, the Senate opposes raising the $10,000 cap on home mortgage interest and property tax deductions, disproportionately affecting taxpayers in high-tax blue states. We need to maximize tax deductions for individuals no matter if they live in a blue or a red state. Presidents Reagan and Trump's tax policies fueled economic growth. Also, Zohran Mamdani, a New York City mayoral candidate, is a dangerous Marxist Islamist with ties to anti-Semitic and anti-Israel activities. Mamdani's proposals, including city-owned grocery stores, massive tax increases, and refusing to cooperate with ICE, are policies that could drive out productive residents, attract welfare-seekers, Islamists, and Marxists, and lead to economic disaster for New York City. If Mamdani gets elected you will see authoritarian democracy in NYC. Authoritarian democracies mimic authoritarian regimes, using seemingly legitimate legal processes—such as passing tyrannical laws or disregarding due process—to justify power, prioritizing legality over justice or morality. Later, John Catsimatidis, owner of Red Apple Media and grocery chains Gristedes and D'Agostino Supermarkets, calls in to warn that he'll close his grocery stores if Mamdani wins the NYC mayor race. Catsimatidis explains that Mamdani's policies, including massive tax increases and defunding the police, would drive businesses out and harm the city's economy. In addition, capitalism drives innovation and improves quality of life by creating wealth through valuable goods and services, such as grocery store chains offering affordable, diverse food options. In contrast, Marxism destroys societies without producing tangible benefits. Capitalism underpins everyday conveniences—clean water, electricity, advanced healthcare, and mobility—unmatched globally. Marxist and socialist ideologies promise unattainable utopias while overlooking capitalism's capacity to foster equality through social mobility, enabling anyone to rise from poverty to wealth. Michael Savage reacts to the Democrat primary in New York City, where socialist and jihadist sympathizer Zohran Mamdani could become the city's next mayor. He reflects on the city's social and political decline. Then, he critiques CNN and other media outlets for undermining reports about the success of the U.S. strike mission in Iran. Savage praises Trump's defense of the pilots and questions whether CNN is guilty of sedition. He revisits his stance as an anti-war conservative, referencing his book "Trump's War" where he wrote about Trump's war against the War Machine. Savage stresses the need for peace between all peoples and nations.

New York State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani pulled off an astonishing upset this week. In the New York City Democratic mayoral primary, he beat out the long-favored winner, former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who conceded the race only hours after the polls closed. The two candidates were of the same party, but held very different positions within it: Cuomo is older, spent more than a decade as Governor and positioned himself as a law-and-order centrist. Mamdani is younger, newer to politics and a total progressive. This is a primary race in just one city, but it's been making national news and could shake up the Democratic party's strategy post-Trump re-election. Brittany sits down with Christian Paz, senior politics reporter at Vox, and Max Rivlin-Nadler, reporter and co-publisher at Hell Gate, a local news site for New York City. They discuss what this race says about where progressive energy is coming from - and why the Democrats might be having a Tea Party moment.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

VIDEO Version https://www.youtube.com/live/9qx6hUIk-p0Buckle up for a chaotic Opie Radio podcast, recorded live at Gebhards Beer Culture! Opie and the crew unleash a torrent of unfiltered rants, starting with a bizarre gong meditation session featuring a blanket-stealing Karen and a sweaty Brazilian yogi. The vibes take a sharp turn as they dive into New York City's political circus, sparring over Zohan Mamdani's election win, Scott Stringer's anti-Trump bravado, and the lingering ghost of Cuomo's campaigns. From subway storefronts turned homeless shelters to barbecues on trains and soul-crushing traffic jams on the Cross Bronx Expressway, Opie's post-Reiki zen gets obliterated by NYC's madness. A surprise visit from Kendall, a chef with tales of Trinidadian lamb chops and a 400-pound chef dad, adds fuel to the crude, hilarious banter. This is Opie Radio at its rawest—grab a beer and dive into the madness!

NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has won over legions of rent-strapped young voters with a platform focused on making housing more affordable — including by freezing rents. This week he cleared an important hurdle, winning the Democratic primary in an upset of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. But his success has panicked the New York real estate industry, which is now in a mad scramble to assess its options. WSJ's Rebecca Picciotto explains how the city's housing crisis is driving the election. Annie Minoff hosts. Description: A scary Muslim named Zohran Mamdani has won the Democratic mayoral primary, and Zionists are absolutely freaking out. In this clip Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger mock the over-the-top reactions from political figures and media personalities, particularly right-wing commentators, who equate Mamdani's Muslim identity and progressive views with anti-American and anti-Israel sentiment. They also explore how Mamdani's refusal to blindly support Israel during debates may have contributed to his popularity, contrasting it with exaggerated loyalty pledges from other candidates. Throughout, the hosts criticize the Democratic Socialists of America, highlight government hypocrisy, and deride fearmongering rhetoric around Muslims and leftist policies. Plus segments on Iran Attacks backfiring on Israel and Marjorie Taylor Greene BLASTS Trump Over Iran Attacks! Also featuring Kurt Metzger, Mike MacRae, and Stef Zamorano. Plus a Phone call from JD Vance!
President Trump's decision to strike Iran has sparked debate in Congress over the executive branch's ability to take military action without authorization. The strikes Trump ordered last week were in line with recent precedent. But some critics and supporters alike are calling for restrictions to his ability to take further action in Iran. House Speaker Mike Johnson called the debate ill-timed, and openly questioned the constitutionality of the War Powers Act. That act requires the president to seek Congressional approval before declarations of war. Is this another battleground in the fight over legislative checks and balances?Trump's assistance with a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran led to a warm reception at a NATO security summit later in the week. The summit was planned to discuss the war in Ukraine, the conflict between Israel and Iran, and other alliance concerns. Much of the focus landed on the ceasefire and an agreement by members to commit 5% of their GDP to defense. The new spending mark was seen as a major concession to Trump, who had threatened since his first term to leave the alliance if it wasn't met. But was the decision made more for self-preservation than appeasement?Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist, won the Democratic primary in New York City's mayoral race. Progressives are pointing to his victory as a beacon for Democrats nationwide to push further to the left. Does that ignore the fact that he ran against the scandal-ridden former governor Andrew Cuomo?
Senators get first classified briefing on Trump's strikes, as Pete Hegseth attacks the media for reporting on the intelligence community's cautious early assessments. Then, Trump's spending bill sees major setback in the Senate today. Plus, why Wall Street is freaking out -- not over trade wars and conflict with Iran, but Zohran Mamdani, the democratic-socialist who could be the next mayor of NYC. Jon Allen, Peter Baker, Mychael Schnell, Ron Insana, Bill Cohan and Mark Joseph Stern join The 11th Hour this Thursday.
