July 12, 2026 - Sunday AM Bible Class This episode is a recorded Bible class covering Acts chapters 10–12. Hiram leads the class through three chapters as they examine the recurring challenges the early church faced: welcoming Gentiles, resolving cultural and religious barriers, and stabilizing growing congregations. Key passages include the conversion of Cornelius, Peter's rooftop vision, the Gentile Pentecost in Cornelius's house, the church's response in Jerusalem, the growth of the church in Antioch, and the persecution and deliverance recorded in Acts 12. The class traces the goal of Acts (Acts 1:8) — to establish and preach the gospel to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth — and evaluates how the early church advanced that mission up through chapter 9. The instructor then details the central challenge in Acts 10–11: how Jews and Gentiles are brought together. The episode examines Cornelius as a ‘God‑fearer,' his moral life and prayers, why divine confirmation was needed, and why moral religiosity is not the same as salvation in Christ. The session walks through Peter's vision of the sheet of animals, his initial resistance rooted in Levitical food laws and cultural heritage, and how both Cornelius and Peter required divine revelation to accept Gentile inclusion. Listeners hear the account of the Holy Spirit falling on Cornelius's household (a Gentile Pentecost), the subsequent baptisms, and the debate in Jerusalem that forced Peter to explain his actions publicly in Acts 11. Attention shifts to Antioch, where the gospel advances among Greeks and other non‑Jewish peoples. The class highlights Barnabas's role in stabilizing that congregation, his bringing Saul (Paul) to help, and the importance of strengthening local churches — emphasizing the principle that one cannot evangelize the world faster than local congregations can be established and stabilized. The episode also surveys Acts 12: the arrest and execution of James, Peter's miraculous deliverance, the congregation's mixed response of doubt and praise, and the lesson that persecution, political opposition, and leadership losses do not stop the spread of God's Word when believers cooperate with it. Practical takeaways for modern listeners are emphasized throughout: acknowledge the spiritual good in seekers, show they aren't far from the kingdom, push for an encounter with Scripture, use the gospel as the neutralizing standard, refuse favoritism or second‑class treatment, strengthen bonds quickly after conversion, listen to God's leading, and invest in stabilizing local churches as the foundation for wider evangelism. The episode is driven by classroom dialogue between the teacher and participants and offers both exegetical insight and applicable pastoral guidance for welcoming diverse converts today. The Mitzvah of Tzedakah is often translated as "charity," but that misses its deeper meaning. Tzedakah is about justice, responsibility, and caring for another human being with dignity. In this week's Parsha, the Torah introduces the Mitzvah with an unexpected word: Laymor - "to say." Why begin a commandment about opening our hands with a word about speaking? Perhaps because the greatest gifts are not only the ones we place in someone's hand, but also the words we place in their heart. Words can restore dignity, awaken hope, and give another person the strength to keep going. A remarkable story about the Tosher Rebbe, Rabbi Meshulum Lowy, shows how a few carefully chosen words transformed the life of a young man in crisis. It is a powerful reminder that the most valuable thing we give another person may not be our money at all. Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here! In this week's episode we explore if there is any truth behind the well loved, pop-psychology meme going around the internet the last few years detailing THE SILENT WAR; a covert struggle for the mind's of the masses between a decentralized group of marginalized schizo-autists and a loosely affiliated cadre of enfranchised psychopathic elites: or more simply, the secret war between the schizos and the psychos - a theory that proponents claim is as old as time and offers us a new perspective on the dynamics between the hidden genius of charismatic predators who run things from the shadows and the weirdos like us who happen to notice them but can't seem to get normal people to listen until it's too late. In the extended show we go into even deeper detail on how psychopaths manipulate the herd and some examples of exactly how it works all the way from the geopolitical stage to the work place. Lastly, we talk about how to identify and defend against the psychopath and hits plots. Thank you and enjoy the show! You can't describe God. Judaism insists on that. So why does Anim Zemirot spend an entire poem trying? Written about a thousand years ago and still sung in many synagogues at the end of Shabbat morning services, Anim Zemirot wrestles with one of the deepest questions in Jewish thought: How can finite human beings speak meaningfully about the Infinite? Its vivid images and metaphors are not literal descriptions of God, but attempts to bring us closer to a reality that ultimately lies beyond words. This is what we do when the most important realities in life are bigger than language. In this video we explore the poetry, theology, and profound yearning of Anim Zemirot. Sometimes love speaks even when it knows language will never be enough. I also share my favorite performance of this remarkable Piyut by Ishay Ribo and Motty Steinmetz.

Ecologist Nalini Nadkarni – known as the "Queen of the Forest Canopy” – has spent a career clambering around tree tops, studying the interdependence of plants and animals in an ecosystem. But when an accident in the canopy brings Nalini's work to an abrupt halt, she is forced to reckon with interdependence of a profoundly different nature.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
