Over the last few years, an increasing number of organizations across all industries have been reviewing their corporate cultures, management processes, and hiring practices to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Like other industries, law firms have been under a microscope for their DEI practices. From the client's point of view, a law firm with diverse teams bring a rich set of perspectives that result in better-reasoned strategies and recommendations. Yet, despite converging pressures from diminished personal tolerance, increased pressure for corporate responsibility, and more complex regulatory requirements, the representation of minority attorneys made only incremental progress over the last few years. What does it take for a law firm as an organization and for an attorney as an individual to promote diversity and inclusiveness? How are clients' expectations shaping and fostering law firms' adoption and implementation of DEI principles? What considerations do lawyers who are renowned DEI champions embrace and value in their daily practice? Our guest today is Tywanda “Ty” Lord, partner at Kilpatrick Townsend, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. She specializes in trademark and advertising counseling and litigation; represents brand owners across a broad spectrum of industries including sports apparel, consumer products, and hospitality; and proactively advises clients on a variety of issues, including trademark clearance and portfolio management, and managing social media advertising campaigns and the IP and right of publicity issues. "One of the things we do is teach people that they need to use what they have, and that is ENOUGH...before you get up to do give a speech or a talk, or deliver a message to someone." GBD66: Human Intelligence. Jennifer Gardner talks to improv facilitator, speaker and founder of BraveSpace, Kristy West. 1 in 4 people are terrified of speaking in public, sometimes rating it their 2nd biggest fear (next to death). Recognising that improv is about more than just 'stand up' comedy, Kristy's focus is to take improv off the stage and into the corporate environment. They discuss bravery, active listening, going "off script", and the importance of accepting that what you have is enough. Kristy outlines how these skills can help to foster innovation, boost creativity, deepen collaboration, develop new mindsets and embed the critical communication skills needed in today’s always-changing, tech-driven, work climate. GIVE FEEDBACK. How did you discover our podcast, where do you listen, and what would you like to hear more of? Finance pro or not, we'd love to know what you think. Email us here. WE DISCUSS: * Glossophobia: what it is and why it matters to 1 in 4 professionals. * How using improv skills can help you get started in your career and get further once it's begun. * How to develop better collaborative and communicative skills through active listening. * How to 'unfreeze' by getting comfortable with the realisation that what one has (i.t.o resources and experience) is already enough. OUR GUEST. Kristy West is a Speaker, and Founder of BraveSpace, based in Atlanta, USA. She's studied, performed and taught improv for almost two decades and also spent over 15 years in B2B Sales and Corporate Training. Dr Saga Lonial talks to ecancer about the first oral proteasome inhibitor at the ASCO 2012 Annual meeting in Chicago. Similar to bortezomib, but administered orally, MLN9708 is the first oral drug to go into clinical trial for myeloma. MLN9708 is boron-based making it a reversible inhibitor. Current trials using the experimental drug aim to determine the dosage and efficacy in myeloma. Patients receiving the drug have already been heavily treated with commonly available agents and had high efficacy, with very low rates of neuropathy, when used in combination with other drugs.
