In this episode, Ayesha discussed Fitbit's new lineup of smartwatches that is set to release this fall, including the Sense 2 which has a sensor for the detection of atrial fibrillation (AFib). Fitbit said the Sense 2 is its most advanced health-focused smartwatch to date. The device has a sensor that can identify signs of AFib through the company's electrocardiogram (ECG) app and photoplethysmography (PPG) algorithm. Hear more about the AFib detection feature as well as the smartwatch's new Body Response sensor for stress management. Ayesha also discussed the FDA approval of Imbruvica (ibrutinib) for pediatric patients one year of age and older with chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD). This is the BTK inhibitor's first approval for a pediatric indication, and the first approved liquid form of the drug. The approval addresses an unmeet need in this indication, as treatment options for cGVHD in younger children are limited. Nová studie (2021) European journal of sport science se dívala na Apple Watch 6, Polar Vantage V a Fitbit Sense. (2.)

He shares how he had a strict Christian upbringing and had little confidence growing up. When he moved and was looking to meet new people, he would go out to the casino and the bar. Once he started to grow his social circles and get attention, his confidence grew and he says he exploited this.  His social circle grew quickly, he knew everyone, felt invincible and unstoppable. He would start to wake up from nights where he would get blackout drunk, as often as 4-5 nights a week. There was an event that took place one of these drunken nights that was the catalyst for a change. Justin needed to change his social circles and his habits so that he was able to reach the potential that deep down he knew that he had and had been wasting. He shares how he has turned his life around and how he is on a never ending journey to keep reaching even further potential.Justin Rille is a personal trainer of over 11 years who works out of his own training studio and has been online coaching nutrition and habit/mindset clients for over 15 years. What if I told you there was a tool that can help boost your sense of overall well-being, improve your mood, improve your memory, heightened creativity, and help you manage stress? In this episode, I'm talking about journaling. Journaling is important because it helps you capture a moment in time, gives you the opportunity to reflect on what's happening in your life in real-time as well as reflects on the past. Journaling can help you heal from past trauma, be an emotion regulator, and help you call in what you want your future to look like.A 2015 study conducted by Penn State found that positive effects journaling is associated with decreased mental distress and increased well-being. That study also associated journaling with less depressive and anxiety symptoms after one month of consistent practice and improved resilience after two months of consistent practice. And the benefits of journaling, don't stop at the mental and emotional level. There can be physical benefits to a form of journaling as well.So grab your notebook and a pen and get ready to free the mind of your thoughts, positive and negative. In this episode, I discuss:How to get the most out of your journaling practiceThe mind, body + emotional benefits of journalingCommon roadblocks women have when thinking about journalingTips + tricks to improving or establishing a journaling practiceHead to balancedblackgirl.com/journaling to download your free prompts.Sponsors:Seed | Show your microbiome some love with Seed's Daily Synbiotic. I've been single for 4 years now and it wasn't by accident. Believe me, I've had my fair share of good and bad relationships. Relationships where I think I've found my person. Relationships that I knew weren't right for me but I went into them anyway trying to find a connection, a sense of purpose. In the past four years, I have had moments where I loved it and where I hated it. I've had moments where I resented it and moments where I resented myself and others. And I've had moments of incredible peace and gratitude for where I am and where I'm at.The really interesting thing about this place of just being that I'm currently in, is I've felt really big shifts all around me. For the first time ever I feel like I'm slowly but surely being seen. I'm attracting new experiences and people that are truly in alignment with my standards and what I've envisioned for myself. In this episode, I discuss:The season of solitudeLetting go of childhood beliefs about relationships that are no longer serving youReflecting on past relationships and your behaviors in those relationshipsKnowing when to shift and become truly aligned with yourselfWhy wanting connection with others is not a sign of weaknessSponsors:Athletic Greens | Get your daily nutritional needs met with a single scoop of Athletic Greens. Our hair is a part of our identity and represents our individuality. What does your hair say about you? Hair was a pain point for some growing up, especially for those who experienced not truly knowing how to do their own hair, love and accept their hair and let it be in its natural state. My guest today, Keziah Dhamma, was one of those women. Growing up in Sacramento, CA she never had anyone that looked like her that she could look up to. Everyone around her had their hair straight. So she turned to relaxers at the age of 12 and never looked back until she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in broadcast journalism and found the water in LA was so harsh on her hair, she had no alternative but to go natural! She did her big chop in 2009 from her hair breaking off so much and struggled for years on not loving her hair and herself. Almost giving up to return to straight hair. Keziah decided to give it one more shot, and exhaust all options before giving up. She turned to experts to help her understand her hair and process. She has gotten educated by some of the best in the industry: @curldoctor ( https://www.instagram.com/shaiamiel/?hl=en ) and @vernonfrancois ( https://www.vernonfrancois.com/ ) On her journey to loving and accepting her hair, Keziah Dhamma invented the first-ever Snappee hair tie made for natural hair and founded SwirlyCurly and CurlCollege. Has someone ever told you that you need more discipline in your life? Have you told yourself you’re not disciplined enough? Most people, including myself, don’t realize that the lack of discipline and accountability is holding us back. Reframing our mindset to take the necessary action steps to correct it, we will start to see a positive change in our lives. Discipline is something that I have been working on for a while now. It is not something that comes easy to me, it is something that I have to work at every day. I have to be disciplined in how I spend my time and it all starts with small habits that I practice daily. There is no such thing as the perfect routine or perfect balance of life but by being mindful of our actions we can achieve freedom. Discipline is not negative. Discipline can and is a positive practice that is mostly attributed to our own success. Here are four affirmations that I repeat to myself to stay positive about discipline: * I find peace through discipline. * Discipline sets me free. * I create ease through discipline. * Opportunity finds me through discipline. Tune in to hear why discipline is all about reframing your mindset and being intentional about your daily habits. What does mindfulness mean to you? Do you integrate mindfulness into your daily routine? I have my moments of calmness and I have my moments of not being calm. It’s all a part of the human experience. Mindfulness is about understanding how to leverage certain tools to bring you back to a state of calmness and zen. Don’t feel guilty about not being calm and centered all the time because we are all human. We are all living a different human experience unique to us. But how can we incorporate mindfulness into our routines as a way to guide us and bring us back to center? My guest today is Dora Kamau. Dora is a meditation and mindfulness teacher, who uses meditation as a tool to guide individuals in experiencing who they truly are. Unshaken and impenetrable by the qualms of life, Dora utilizes her own lived experience to guide in-person and online gatherings for women to connect through intentional conversations. Over the last 2 years, she has led thousands in meditation with individuals participating from all over the world and from all walks of life. Those days are long gone: Fitbits are now continuous heart and sleep monitors, with aspirations that go even deeper. Now owned by Google, Fitbit is still creating new fitness trackers, like the new Luxe. The company's subscription-based Fitbit Premium service continues to add new wellness routines, including celebrity guides such as Deepak Chopra.   Where do things go next? Will Fitbit ever venture off-wrist? How can these trackers possibly assist with diseases like COVID-19?  Fitbit co-founder and CTO Eric Friedman offers some insights on where Fitbit is at now, and where things are headed next.   Fitbit plans to continue exploring more advanced sensors on its bigger watches, while letting sensor tech trickle down over time into more optimized, smaller, lower-cost bands. "Because they have a larger battery, and kind of more mass, it's easier to try out brand new sensors in them and learn," Friedman says of last year's sensor-studded Fitbit Sense -- which added temperature, a stress-sensing electrodermal sensor and an electrocardiogram, or ECG -- compared to the much more pared-down new Fitbit Luxe, which leans mostly on its optical heart-rate sensor for things like sleep and stress measurements.   Friedman makes the comparison to where heart rate on wearables was years ago, living mainly on big watches while smaller bands just measured steps. The optical heart-rate sensor is also where the most evolution has happened, adding a lot of extra algorithm-based insights that didn't exist before. "When we first launched heart rate in our smartwatch, it was really about a kind of workout experience," Friedman says of where things were seven years ago. "But as things progressed, we started to be able to tease out more and more from heart rate."   He sees heart-rate variability as an important new metric, and related to that, atrial fibrillation. Fitbit recently finished a 500,000-person AFib study, but unlike the Apple Watch, most Fitbits don't measure estimated atrial fibrillation through the optical heart-rate sensor. For that, you'd need a Fitbit Sense with its ECG feature.     What's New in the 303:   Megan Hottman: Prescott, AZ Racing and Forest Bathing By Megan Hottman, courtesy of MeganHottman.com   This van trip kicks off with a lovely dose of #americana – some ball sports, some lively hockey, some bike racing, kids running around, the requisite amount of dirt and dust, loads of campers and RVs, ample flag flying and one helleva sunset . I took the @canonusa out to capture all the feels.   Life these days offers glimpses of normalcy and it feels really *really* good.  Also can I get an amen for @dippindots ?! I haven’t had these in probably 20 years. What a treat.   Ok so where are we? We’re in a large sports complex park in Prescott, AZ. Here for a mountain bike race, I’m experiencing for the first time this parking lot-event style camping vibe. This wouldn’t be my top vanlife venue choice on a regular basis …but for this event and experience it’s totally fine. This location boasts temps a full 20-25 degrees than in Phoenix so we’re enjoying the nice cool evening temps and the escape from the big-city-heat.   Pros: restrooms close by, lots of friendly humans around, safe. Cons: all the humans. And pavement.   Saturday’s race went GREAT! I actually warmed up for this race and implemented lessons I learned in March’s bike race … and took the win! I raced women intermediate 40-49, won my age group.  More importantly I felt great – I executed food, warmup and race strategies. I hit the opening stretch and hole shot into the first climb, at the front, and it paid off. I got more and more comfortable with the fast & flowy portions of the course as the race went along. We raced at noon so I did some yoga and a walk beforehand. Not normally things I’d do pre race but I wanted to keep my face out of my phone as I sat there nervously waiting for my start.   Van-Life and Endurance Sports By Andy Shmidt   Renting a van offers the endurance athlete an opportunity to experience the outdoors in a new way, with the potential to do a self-contained local or regional race. And if you’re thinking about purchasing a van, renting a few different configurations may help you BETA test available options.   Even with night-time temperatures dipping into the low 30’s, high 20’s it was still comfortable in the van. Granted I did “warm the place up” with the included LP gas powered Mr. Heater, before going to bed. Even with the provided battery-operated carbon monoxide detector, I wasn’t comfortable going to sleep with it running. Friends who were tent camping nearby at the James M. Robb campground reported being cold and the high winds interrupting their sleep. Neither were an issue for “Johnny.”   Cooking was as easy as being at home, though it did require a bit more planning / prep work. I’m pretty sure I could have made hot apple pie, had I taken my Alpine Oven along on the trip.   Titus Adventure Company is a family-owned business located in Denver, offering outdoor adventure focused trucks, SUV’s and camper van rentals. Pueblo High is a Title 1 school and funding for the club is reliant 100% on donations and fundraising. One of their goals this year is to be able to have matching jerseys for all the members. We Ride 4 wants to help by designing a jersey and raising the money to buy the jerseys for all club members. Please consider helping by donating! Story of Angelina who Sharon just stop and met along the side of this bike path.  Sharon befriends Angelina and learns about this Pueblo High School.  Angelina needs a bike.  Sharon gives her the money to get a bike.  She ends up buying a bike from Tucson Endurance Center because Angelina's mom works with Brian Grasky in the Air Force.  Brian Grasky our guest from two weeks ago. So while we're on this ride, I see these two guys running on the trail and they are flying.  Clearly look like pro triathletes.  Coming from Boulder, I know what that looks like.  From the back, the first pro that came to mind was Ben Hoffman.  When I passed him and looked back, it really looked like Ben Hoffman.  When I DM'd Ben on Instagram, he confirmed it was not him. More on Ben later. Thanks Sharon, John and We Ride 4 for a really enjoyable ride around Tucson and a nice steak burrito at Seis afterward. Platte back to Confluence.  Only Tucson faster and wider.  More open for sure.  1st - a huge shoutout to Tucson Endurance Performance Center.  I rented a 2021 Cervelo R Series and it rode beautifully.  I showed up at Sharon's house in Tucson and met one of the other We Ride 4 Denver Club Members named John.  And then met Sharon's boyfriend John Genell.  John and I had a common background in Big 5 consulting firms, so we hit it off right away.  It was John who explained his background on the Board of Wish For Wheels. We Ride 4 is a community of cyclists that create unique experiences for our members through weekly rides, participation in cycling events and social gatherings throughout the year. All rides are led by experienced ride leaders. Weekly rides range from social-pace no-drop formats to advanced-pace training rides. WR4's Denver Charitable Partner is Cottonwood Institute.  Cottonwood Institute believes that students can't be expected to care about the environment if they never have a chance to explore the outdoors. Your donations empower students to be environmentally aware and civically engaged. WR4's Tucson Chapter Partner is the Road Warriors Club.  Sponsor Ernesto Somoza adamantly encourages Pueblo High School students to join the Road Warriors Club if they are looking for something to do after school that’s a little bit different than just joining a sports team. Thanks UCAN EDGE for fueling my ride and VENGA for fueling my recovery!   Video of the Week: "Snow to Sand" Full Documentary   Upcoming Interviews: Coming Soon:  Author of "The Athlete Inside" Sue Reynolds and Coach Bobby McGee who has played an integral role in the development of top athletes with USA Triathlon, as well as several olympians and top-ranked ITU stars. He is the author of “Run Transformation,” The World’s Best Run Training Course. Fitbit Replaces Some of Its Smartwatches over Hardware Issues

Fitness and electronics company Fitbit is replacing a number of its Sense smartwatches for free because of issues with the product's electrocardiogram (ECG) features. Fitbit Sense was first launched in August 2020. It is the first smartwatch with ECG capabilities from the company. ECG tracks the wearer's heartbeat to detect heart problems like an irregular heart rhythm. In addition to this feature, Fitbit Sense can also track stress levels and read the wearer's temperature. News about the smartwatch's ECG issues first surfaced in the company's official forums. Users shared emails from Fitbit saying that it had identified problems in some of its Sense units, which could cause them to work improperly. Some users were apprehensive about the emails and thought they were a scam. However, moderators from the forum clarified that the messages were legitimate. According to Fitbit, the Sense smartwatches' ECG functionality was affected by some hardware issues that might cause its readings to be inconclusive. However, the company did not clarify what exactly caused the ECG features to malfunction. The company said that fewer than 900 units were affected by the problem. As smartwatches and wearable health trackers are becoming more common, more and more people have been relying on them to track their health. However, experts warn that doing so may have possible drawbacks. A recent study found that smartwatches are not very reliable for monitoring health. According to the study, many users who went to the doctor after getting abnormal readings on their smartwatches did not really have health problems. False alarms like these cause patients to go for unnecessary checkups, which take doctors' time away from patients who actually do need care.
