A federal judge halted the Trump administration's efforts to get rid of roughly 4,000 federal workers during the shutdown on Wednesday. And yet while courts try to stop the Trump administration from axing government workers, hundreds of thousands of federal employees are going without paychecks. And the Affordable Care Act subsidies Democrats are fighting for are what stands between millions of Americans and even higher health care prices. To discuss how the shutdown and the subsidies fight are affecting rural Americans, I spoke to Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin. And in headlines, Department of Homeland Security blows a wad of cash on Kristi Noem-inspired propaganda, Trump confirms he's authorized CIA action in Venezuela. Jason Kander and Ravi Gupta break down JB Pritzker's sharp warning to Trump over invoking the Insurrection Act and Obama joining the “imagine if Obama did it” chorus. They analyze Trump's explosive comments comparing U.S. cities like Chicago and Portland to Egypt, Tish James's latest legal moves, and Eric Trump's wild claim that Jack Smith planted classified folders at Mar-a-Lago. Kander and Gupta also dive into the stunning New York Times report on the forced resignation of a U.S. attorney in Virginia who refused to pursue flimsy charges tied to Trump's demands for a Russia-related investigation. Plus, they discuss Trump's hot-mic moment with Indonesia's president, Janet Mills's surprising Senate run in Maine, the leaked racist Young Republicans chat, and how America's growing literacy crisis fits into the broader political decay. There’s a divide between Scotland and Ireland as fierce as the Protestant/Catholic split during the Thirty Years’ War or the battles between Sunnis and Shias in the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s. It’s the debate over who invented whisky. Both Ireland and Scotland claim to have originated the spirit. Ireland cites its early monastic traditions and the term "uisce beatha" (Gaelic for "water of life") as evidence of whisky production dating back to the 12th century. Scotland, however, argues that its distillation practices, documented in the 1494 Exchequer Rolls mentioning "aqua vitae," predate Ireland’s clear records and point to their refined techniques in the Highlands. Irish advocates emphasize that their missionaries spread distillation knowledge to Scotland, while Scots counter that their innovations in barrel aging and malting set whisky apart as a distinctly Scottish craft. The argument often hinges on differing definitions of what constitutes "whisky," with no definitive proof resolving the dispute, leaving both sides to proudly defend their heritage. Whisky stands out from other alcohols, like beer, due to its intricate production process, which relies on advanced distillation technology to create a high-potency spirit from fermented grains. The use of oak barrels for aging imparts complex flavors, such as vanilla, caramel, and smoky notes, giving whisky its distinctive depth and character. Today’s guest is Noah Rothbaum, a world-renowned drinks expert and author of The Whiskey Bible: A Complete Guide to the World’s Greatest Spirit. He reveals the history and lore of whisky. We discuss the possibly 5,000-year history of distillation and whisky, how phylloxera wiped out Europe’s vineyards and decimated the market for wine in the early 19th century but kickstarted interest in spirits, how Americans created a separate and distinct spirit, and the future of the drink.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

More importantly, I break down 8 red flags that experts say could indicate you're being conned. Because here's the truth: falling for a scam doesn't mean you're careless or foolish—it means you're human. And understanding the psychology behind deception is the best way to protect yourself. Gold has been surging this year—but what's behind the rise, and what should investors keep in mind before buying in?Precious metals, such as gold and silver, have long fascinated investors, particularly in times of economic uncertainty. But are they wise investments for today? If so, how should we approach them? Mark Biller joins us today to talk about investing in precious metals.Mark Biller is Executive Editor and Senior Portfolio Manager at Sound Mind Investing, an underwriter of Faith & Finance. The Surge in Gold and SilverGold's remarkable rise has captured headlines again, now up over $4,000 an ounce—up from about $2,600 at the start of 2025. That's a 50% gain this year on top of last year's 26% surge. Silver has jumped even higher, up roughly 60%, while gold mining stocks have more than doubled. What's behind this stunning rally? Several key forces are at play. Global central banks have been buying gold aggressively, a trend that accelerated after the U.S. froze Russia's dollar reserves in 2022. This event shook confidence in the U.S. dollar as a neutral reserve currency. Add in fears of currency debasement stemming from massive government spending since the COVID pandemic, and gold suddenly looks like a safer store of value. As investors around the world look for stability, gold—the “4,000-year-old alternative currency”—is once again shining. To understand today's prices, it helps to look at history. Adjusted for inflation, gold recently surpassed its all-time high from January 1980. Silver, meanwhile, is nearing $50 an ounce—the peak it hit in both 1980 and 2011—but still lags behind those highs when adjusted for inflation. These cycles remind investors that precious metals often move in waves—soaring during manias, then enduring long pullbacks. After its 1980 peak, silver prices dropped nearly 90%; after 2011, they fell by about 70%. Understanding those cycles helps set realistic expectations and temper “gold rush” enthusiasm.Gold as a Store of ValueUnlike stocks or bonds, gold doesn't produce income or dividends. That makes it tricky to value—but also unique. It's not a productive asset; it's a preservative one.For centuries, an ounce of gold could buy a fine men's suit. The same holds true today, illustrating its enduring purchasing power. Gold's real role isn't to generate profit—it's to store value when currencies lose theirs.Viewed this way, gold functions as an alternative currency to the world's paper money systems. As inflation rises and confidence in traditional currencies wavers, gold's relative stability stands out.Gold's appeal intensifies during uncertainty. Whether it's inflation, war, or financial instability, investors turn to gold as a hedge. While Americans rarely consider regime changes, history is filled with nations where financial systems collapsed, and gold helped preserve wealth across transitions.Even in less dramatic times, when governments respond to crises by printing more money, gold tends to perform well. As fear increases, so does the appetite for precious metals.Gold, Silver, and Mining Stocks: Knowing the DifferenceEach part of the precious metals market serves a different role:Gold is the foundation—a global monetary metal and store of value. It's what central banks buy, and it tends to be more stable.Silver is both a monetary and an industrial metal. Its demand fluctuates more with the economy, primarily due to uses in electronics and solar panels. That makes it more volatile—but also more accessible to smaller investors.Mining Stocks are speculative. While they can surge when gold prices rise, they're also risky. Over the long term, mining stocks have underperformed, so investors should approach them with caution. How to Invest Wisely in Precious MetalsWe recommend a balanced approach: Physical gold and silver provide direct ownership and long-term stability. However, storage and security are concerns, so it's best to keep this allocation small—around 5% of your portfolio.ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) offer convenience and liquidity. They're ideal for active management and diversification.Combining both approaches provides flexibility and peace of mind—anchoring part of your wealth in tangible assets while keeping another portion readily accessible for use.As with any investment, precious metals should be approached with discipline and perspective. They're best viewed as part of a long-term diversification strategy—not a get-rich-quick play.To learn more about investing wisely in gold and silver, Sound Mind Investing has released a free special report for Faith & Finance listeners. Download your copy at SoundMindInvesting.org.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I own a 100-year-old building where I live and also rent out a couple of units. It's well built but always needs work. Thankfully, I can handle many of the repairs myself, as I come from a family of electricians and real estate professionals. The issue is, I can't seem to deduct much of what I do on my taxes, even though I spend a lot of time maintaining the property. I also sometimes barter with family and friends, helping them with projects in exchange for their help. Is there a legal way for me to charge for some of my time or count this work toward deductions?I've got about $7,000 to $8,000 in credit card debt, and I'll be leaving my job soon. I have a 401(k) with a balance similar to mine, and I know that taking it out early means incurring taxes and penalties. Scott shares the “one small step” moments—raking baseball fields after his kids' games, organizing neighbors, knocking doors—that pulled him into public service and taught him how ordinary people create extraordinary change. Then Scott lays out Louisiana's recent reform surge and why he calls 2024 a breakthrough year: a universal school-choice program opening opportunity to every student, a simplified 3% flat individual income tax and broader tax reforms that set the table for future elimination, and pro-growth regulatory changes aimed at making the state a magnet for jobs and investment. He also reveals the ground game behind the wins—recruiting policy champions, mobilizing volunteers, and reminding citizens that good policy follows engaged people. If you've ever looked at a problem and thought “somebody should do something,” Scott's story is your blueprint to start.

With Trump's health visibly in decline, attention is shifting to Peter Thiel's invention, JD Vance, who may soon be president. Which means Thiel, a billionaire doomsday prepper who thinks the Anti-Christ is Greta Thunberg, could effectively rule the world. What does Thiel's obsession with the Anti-Christ reveal about how we can resist him? Thiel's worldview isn't just weird Silicon Valley paranoia; it's vintage fascist fan fiction. His ideas trace back to Nazi jurist Carl Schmitt, who justified Hitler's violent purges as necessary for “saving civilization.” Schmitt's argument was simple and horrifying: democracy is too weak, so we need a strongman to suspend the rules. Thiel recycles Schmitt's logic in a twenty-first-century sermon on why democracy itself is the real threat. In Thiel's version, collective action to solve global crises like man-made climate change is the definition of evil. So you know what to do, folks: double down on building collective action. In Part One of our conversation with journalist Gil Duran, of the Nerd Reich newsletter, that tracks Silicon Valley's billionaire Bond villains, we dig into Thiel's apocalyptic delusions, how they shape his politics, and why it's a very big deal that a man this afraid of democracy has his hands in everything from expanding government surveillance to election data. Part Two will be out this Thursday, with a special look at Thiel and Trump's Big Brother–their latest efforts to establish a Chinese-style surveillance state. Want to hear Gaslit Nation ad-free? President Donald Trump's recent remarks about Miriam Adelson, widow of Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson, including jokes that she is more loyal to Israel than the United States, qualify as antisemitism, based on the guidelines promulgated by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which classifies accusations of dual loyalty as antisemitic. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger analyze Trump's history with the Adelsons, his acknowledgment of their influence over policy decisions such as moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, and his rhetoric about donor power in U.S. politics. The discussion then expands into a broader critique of the IHRA's antisemitism definitions, perceived double standards in political discourse, and the influence of Zionism and media narratives on public perception. Plus segments on the sham that is the upcoming “No Kings” rally and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene going scorched earth on her own party. Also featuring Mike MacRae, Mel K. and Stef Zamorano. Some historians argue that President Trump is using a Stalinist-style playbook to amass power, silence his enemies and suppress science. What Americans should know about notorious Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin's style and political tactics.
Story 1: Do Americans take Western values for granted? If support for New York City Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is any indicator, then the answer is a clear yes. Will reacts to a recent clip of Mamdani defending the wording of his intention to raise taxes on “richer and whiter neighborhoods,” (yes, that's the exact wording) before explaining how the enormity of Western culture might make it difficult for younger Americans to realize just how good they have it. Story 2: Will is joined by the Founder of XX-XY Athletics, Jennifer Sey to discuss the sharp drop in non-traditional gender identification among students and why this appears to be the case. Will and Jennifer then react to a clip of California Gubernatorial Candidate Betty Yee expressing support for allowing biological males in the female category when the Olympics comes to L.A., as well as Keira Knightley facing backlash over her defense of author J.K. Rowling. Story 3: Politics Editor for The Daily Signal, Bradley Devlin helps Will analyze the growing cottage industry of liberal podcast hosts, like Bill Maher, developing a ‘strange new respect' for President Donald Trump, before sharing his outlook on the 2026 midterm elections as the Supreme Court begins reconsidering Section Two of the Voting Rights Act. President Trump's so-called "100% tariffs" on China weren't some patriotic flex, they were the globalist trigger for the biggest crypto bloodbath ever, flushing $19 billion in leveraged longs down the drain while BlackRock vampires and their Mossad whales shorted the market for billions, leaving 1.6 million goyim traders ruined and suicidal in the rubble. But amid the carnage, where Bitcoin cratered 21% to $101K and altcoins got eviscerated 80-99%, J Proof stood unbreakable under my iron grip, proving it's the only fortress against these Rothschild engineered resets designed to centralize control and crush the decentralized dream for their endless fiat hell. Donald Trump waltzed into the Knesset like a whipped dog, boasting about funneling American bombs to Netanyahu's diaper army while Miriam Adelson's blood money keeps him leashed for the Greater Israel land grab. This spectacle, complete with Huckabee's "Sweet Home Jerusalem" crooning, is just the latest humiliation ritual proving Washington's a Zionist occupied hellhole, bleeding our sons for Talmudic demons hellbent on the Third Temple and Antichrist. America's healthcare system is failing because it focuses on prescriptions instead of prevention. In this episode of The P.A.S. Report Podcast, Professor Nick Giordano speaks with Dr. Chad Walding, Doctor of Physical Therapy and cofounder of NativePath, to expose why Americans are becoming weaker and sicker despite record spending on healthcare. Dr. Walding explains how collagen plays a vital role in maintaining strength, mobility, and overall health. Poor nutrition and lifestyle habits have led to a fiscal crisis and a national security threat. Together, they discuss the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement, emphasizing how nutrition, transparency, and self-reliance can help rebuild America's health from the ground up. Episode Highlights: Why the U.S. system focuses on treatment over prevention, and how that mindset fuels chronic disease. From obesity and food quality to supplement transparency, Dr. Walding and Professor Giordano explore how restoring nutrition, awareness, and accountability can Make America Healthy Again. Dr. Walding explains why collagen is essential for maintaining strength, mobility, and vitality, and the major role it plays in reversing the damage caused by poor nutrition.

It's Wednesday, October 15th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Turkey has expelled 350 foreign Christians Alliance Defending Freedom International reports that officials in Turkey are labeling Christians as national security threats. Since 2020, the country has expelled about 350 foreign Christians under the guise of “national security.” Many of these believers lived and ministered in the country for decades. Officials are not only keeping foreign Christians out, they are also suppressing churches inside the country. For example, Turkey restricts Bible education and continues to deny legal status to Protestant seminaries. Madagascar Parliament impeaches President after Gen Z protests Youth-led protests have contributed to the unseating of another government—this time in Madagascar, an island country located 250 miles off the coast of Southeast Africa in the Indian Ocean Since September 25, Gen Z groups have led antigovernment protests. They were protesting over water and power outages as well as poverty and government corruption. The country's parliament voted Tuesday to impeach President Andry Rajoelina. He has been in power since 2009. The Madagascar Army immediately seized control of the African island nation, promising to create a transitional government. The Gen Z-Madagascar movement was inspired by youth-led protesters in Kenya last year and in Nepal this year. America boosts Argentinian economy The United States finalized a $20 billion currency swap with Argentina last Thursday. The U.S. move aims at providing economic stability to Argentina as well as keeping China's influence out of the South American country. Argentinian President Javier Milei thanked the United States. In a post on X. he wrote, “Together, as the closest of allies, we will make a hemisphere of economic freedom and prosperity.” Nobel Peace Prize recipient dedicates prize to President Trump The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 to Maria Corina Machado last Friday. The 58-year-old activist is known for leading the Venezuelan opposition to the governments of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro. Machado responded to the award on X, saying the recognition was a boost to her work. She also wrote, “I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!” U.S. President Donald Trump has been nominated for the peace prize multiple times for his peace deals, especially in the Middle East. To be clear, the deadline for the Nobel Peace Prize handed out in October was January 31, just 11 days after Trump took office. Jesus reminds us of ultimate peace in John 14:27. He said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Trump lays off 4,000 federal employees The Trump administration is laying off over 4,000 federal employees as the government shutdown continues. LifeSiteNews reports the layoffs include people working on Democrat programs like “family planning” and “LGBTQ health” issues. President Trump told a cabinet meeting that he would use the shutdown to cut Democrat programs. Listen. TRUMP: “Despite all of the damage that it's caused, the shutdown has been pretty damaging, not yet, because it's early, but it gets a little bit worse as it goes along. And we'll be making cuts that will be permanent. And we're only going to cut Democrat programs.” 58% of Americans say Bible transformed their lives The American Bible Society released the latest chapter of its State of the Bible USA 2025 report. The study found that 36% of U.S. adults believe the Bible is totally accurate in all the principles it presents. And 58% say the Bible has transformed their lives. Meanwhile, 24% of Americans say the Bible is just another book of teachings written by people that contains stories and advice. A majority of those also say the Bible was written to control or manipulate people. But Psalm 18:30 says, “As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” Monster pumpkin weighs 2,346 pounds And finally, a California engineer won a pumpkin-growing contest held on Monday in Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco. Brandon Dawson's monster pumpkin weighed in at a whopping 2,346 pounds, over 300 pounds ahead of the next contestant. He is now the champion of the 2025 Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off. Dawson told the Associated Press his kids loved the process. DAWSON: “Oh, it's very much a family affair, especially as the kids -- my kids are four and two, and especially my four-year-old, especially now can really pay attention to the growing process. I think both of them might have interest in doing it in their future. “We like to spend time out in the patch and watch the thing grow when it's picking up 50 to 70 pounds a day. You can really see it growing day over day.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, October 15th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Synopsis- HUD in crisis- The Department of Housing and Urban Development has seen its staff slashed by 70% since Donald Trump took office, with civil rights cases being abandoned and political appointees allegedly overriding legal findings to allow discrimination. This show is made possible by you! To become a sustaining member go to LauraFlanders.org/donateDescription: About 750,000 people are on unpaid leave as the U.S. government shutdown continues — but some of the most caring parts of the government's work have been shut down for months. Take the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for example. This is one of the only free resources available to Americans facing housing discrimination, but in a shocking complaint letter submitted to Senator Elizabeth Warren on September 22, 2025, civil rights attorneys Palmer Heenan, Paul Osadebe and two other whistleblowers describe an agency in crisis. Staff has been slashed by 70% since Donald Trump took office, civil rights cases have been abandoned, and political appointees are allegedly overriding legal findings to allow discrimination. Every layoff and budget cut by the Trump administration, both within HUD and across federal agencies, is part of a larger plan to create chaos, end civil rights protections, legalize segregation and exert unitary executive power. Heenan and Osadebe, members of the Federal Unionists Network (FUN), are calling on federal employees to uphold their oath to constitution and protect Americans. And they've paid the price: *both Heenan and Osadebe were fired by HUD in what has been called a "stunning act of illegal retaliation.” In this conversation, the two share their story, what it means for civil rights and how unions can fight for government accountability.“No one is asking for a leg up or an extra hand or whatever the case might be. We're just asking to get rid of discrimination. And so I hope the future will tell the story of people doing just that, coming together, going to Congress and saying, ‘These are our rights. You passed them into law decades ago. Fight for the rights that we have now.'” - Palmer Heenan“The thing that will actually get us through this is solidarity, recognizing what potential power we have as federal workers . . . [The administration wants] to create fear, which leads to silence, which lets things be dismantled without anyone standing up and fighting and saying, ‘This is illegal, this is wrong and this is harming people.' It's up to federal workers, the ones in the building, to actually do that.” - Paul OsadebeGuests:• Palmer Heenan: Attorney, HUD Whistleblower; Member, AFGE 476• Paul Osadebe: Attorney, HUD Whistleblower; Steward, AFGE 476 Watch the special report on YouTube; PBS World Channel Sundays 11:30am ET, and on over 300 public stations across the country (check your listings, or search here via zipcode). On this episode of The Hillsdale College Online Courses Podcast, Jeremiah and Juan discuss the long-term ramifications of the fall of the Soviet Union before introducing Michael Anton. We often treat foreign policy as a mystery that can only be understood by an enlightened few who have committed their lives to understanding the complexities of international life. This view is dangerous because it encourages citizens to ignore a critical aspect of American political life that it’s our duty to understand. And it’s false because the basics of foreign policy are commonsense and a joy to learn. For the Founders, the basic premise of foreign policy is simple—we must make every decision with a view towards securing the equal, natural rights of American citizens. This understanding requires that America’s leaders remain accountable to the people, and it places essential limits on our interventions abroad. Yet, for over a century, this traditional understanding of American foreign policy has been challenged by new and more ambitious doctrines that argue for increased American involvement and leadership abroad. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, America was left as the sole great power on the world stage, which led many Americans to expect a return to noninterventionist policies. But the foreign policy establishment argued that America as the sole great power left in the world had a responsibility of leading in a new international order. The threat of global terrorism entrenched this new role. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today, the alcohol-free industry is worth $1.6 TRILLION dollars and counting, with celebrities, wellness icons, and millions of women joining the movement. Not long ago, choosing to not drink meant you were labeled, questioned, or told you'd “never have fun again.” How times have changed. I've had the incredible honor of watching this glow-up since I took my first break from alcohol 7.5 years ago. At the time, around 10% of the population didn't drink. Now? That number has soared to 25%. This episode is all about how we got here, from what it was like to go alcohol-free when options were scarce, the fascinating data behind this global shift, and what this means for our culture moving forward. 7.5 years ago, I'd drive an hour just to find a decent AF stout, but today, there are options EVERYWHERE: restaurants, grocery stores, online, and it's only growing with endorsements from influencers like Katy Perry and Tom Holland, who have their own AF brands. If you go alcohol-free today, you are an early adopter and an innovator. Join us inside Euphoric the Club, the premier community of successful, alcohol-free women (and the women who are becoming them), and apply for the next round of the Empowered AF 5X Coach Certification Program, which starts in TWO DAYS. IN THIS EPISODE: The alcohol-free movement leapt from taboo to trend and why NOT drinking is a modern status symbol, not a social stigma Jaw-dropping stats; for example, 25% of Americans haven't touched alcohol in the past year, and 50% plan to drink less The rise of alcohol-free beverages and how innovative brands and celebrities have turned not drinking into the coolest option in the room Why I think the alcohol-free movement is one of the biggest wellness trends for coming generations (plus, looking at the potential of YOUR influence on the people you know) LINKS/RESOURCES MENTIONED If you know you're meant to help other people change their relationship with alcohol and achieve deep healing (along with their bigger dreams), apply for the Empowered AF 5X Coach Certification Program – and get 5x certified as a world class alcohol-free empowerment coach, mindset coach, success coach, NLP practitioner, and hypnosis practitioner. Because we lived along the East Coast for so many years, we had the opportunity to see many of America's old lighthouses. I mean, we came up over the top of a hill on an interstate one day and I saw what I certainly never expected to see hundreds of miles from the ocean. It was a lighthouse with a bright, functioning light on top. Obviously, it wasn't there to point any ships in the right direction. Actually, it was part of a church that stands right near the highway. This lighthouse is for people! I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "The Great Lighthouse Shortage." It seems to me that Jesus intended for every church to be a lighthouse, whether or not they have a lighted tower as part of their building, as He intended for every Christian to be a lighthouse, every ministry. Tragically, there are so many lives around us headed for eternal disaster, and there is a terrible lighthouse shortage. We know that Jesus said that those who belong to Him are "the light of the world" (Matthew 5:16). And Matthew 4:16, our word for today from the Word of God, tells us which direction our light should be pointing. Jesus says, "The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned." See, it's the people in spiritual darkness, the people who are spiritually dying who should be the focus of all this light that God has given us. The problem is that often we're content to have all the lights inside the church, shining on those who are already headed for heaven. Meanwhile, we let countless lost people just get another day closer to hell. We do what's easy. We just work with the sheep who are already in, when Jesus said He would leave ninety-nine of those just to go out and find one lost one. But notice, you have to go out to find them. You can't just stay in the Christian cocoon waiting for someone to stick their head in the door and say, "Excuse me, but is there any light in here?" The lighthouse needs to be out where they are! We can go to all our Christian meetings, and fellowship with all our Christian friends, and enjoy all our Christian books and programs, and we feel like we must be winning. Well, not when two-thirds of Americans can't tell you half of the Ten Commandments or who did the Sermon on the Mount! Not when the number of people who say they believe in nothing has doubled in just a few years, not when the number of those who are self-declared witches grew over 1,500% in a decade. Even in one Bible Belt state, the statistics came in this way: two-thirds of the people even there are essentially un-churched! You have working near you, living near you, going to school with you - people who have no idea that what Jesus did on the cross was for them and that He's their only hope! If our Christian subculture makes us feel like we're winning, it's the illusion of winning. How can we be content to spend all our time with the already rescued when we're living surrounded by a sea of dying people? How can we say that we're following the One who came, as He said, to "seek and save what was lost" and not be doing that with all our heart? If you're following Jesus, I'll tell you where He's going. He's always headed for a sea of lost people. That should be where we end up, too. Oh, it's bright inside the lighthouse, but it's very dark outside the walls. So many headed for eternal destruction! They desperately need a lighthouse - a lighthouse that's out where they are, pointing them to life in Jesus Christ. Please, be their lighthouse!

Joe "Peppy" Sciarra was drafted into the U.S. Army the day after he graduated from high school. All four boys in his family served during World War II. After basic training, Sciarra was assigned to the Army's 25th Infantry Division, known as "Tropic Lightning." He was then ordered to be part of a heavy weapons platoon operating 81 millimeter mortars. The weapon would be critical to the U.S. driving the Japanese off of 47 separate ridges on the island of Luzon in the Philippines over five months in 1945.In this edition of Veterans Chronicles, Sciarra explains how the 81 millimeter guns were operated and why he sees them as the decisive weapon at Luzon. He also tells us about a suprisingly easy landing at Luzon, but there would nothing easy after that. He details the Japanese weapons that took a significant toll on American forces, what it was like fighting uphill all the time, how the Japanese ambushed our soldiers, and how he ended up with with a promotion he didn't want.Sciarra also takes us into the personal side of war, losing friends, and honoring the remains of the fallen. He also tells us about his harrowing journey to Japan for occupational duty and the serious illness he faced at the end of the war. But more than anything, Sciarra wants all Americans to appreciate the courage and sacrifice of the U.S. Army infantry in World War II and beyond.
