The Northwestern history professor and New Yorker contributor Daniel Immerwahr joins Tyler Foggatt to discuss the ways in which the COVID crisis deepened Americans' distrust of institutional experts and propelled R.F.K., Jr., to the height of political power in the Trump Administration. Plus, they talk about how Anthony Fauci's clashes and eventual reconciliation with AIDS activists in the nineteen-eighties and nineties could serve as a guide to repairing the rift between Americans who are skeptical of experts and the officials who set public-health policy today. This week's reading:“R.F.K., Jr., Anthony Fauci, and the Revolt Against Expertise,” by Daniel Immerwahr“Who Gets to Be an American?,” by Michael Luo“The Stakes of the Birthright-Citizenship Case,” by Ruth Marcus“Donald Trump's Culture of Corruption,” by Isaac Chotiner“The Mideast Is Donald Trump's Safe Place,” by Susan B. Something seems to have happened to car headlights. In the last few years, many people have become convinced that they are much brighter than they used to be—and it's driving them to the point of rage. Headlight glare is now Americans' number one complaint on the road. The story of how and why we got here is illuminating and confounding. It's what happens when an incredible technological breakthrough meets market forces, regulatory failure, and human foibles. So if you feel like everyone's driving around with their high beams on all the time, it's not your imagination. What once seemed like an obscure technical concern has gone mainstream. But can the movement to reduce glare actually do something about the problem? In this episode, you'll hear from Nate Rogers, who wrote about the “headlight brightness wars” for The Ringer; Daniel Stern, automotive lighting expert and editor of Driving Vision News; and Paul Gatto, moderator of r/fuckyourheadlights. Power and Deceit: The Biden Administration Exposed

    Mark Levin Podcast

On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, President Biden's health cover-up goes to the heart of our republic. If a single person, family, or political party can act against Americans as they have, they will stop at nothing. Biden's family, staff, and the media knew about his dementia but hid it. The 25th Amendment should have been invoked by Kamala Harris and the Cabinet. AG Merrick Garland withheld the 2023 Robert Hur/Biden audio from Congress and the Cabinet because he didn't want the 25th Amendment triggered. He played a major role in this cover-up and efforts against Trump and should be held accountable. They were using the power of government to try to get Biden through another election, and at the same time, try to take out President Trump. This was a massive cover-up and scandal, the likes of which the nation has never experienced. Later, the Trump cabinet officials have uniformly done a terrific job during congressional budget hearings. They're not taking any crap from the Democrats and providing very solid responses. Afterward, some House Republicans are planning to block President Trump's economic growth and tax cut plan, which plays into the Democrat/Marxist playbook. If the bill fails, there will be a massive tax increase, the derailment of Trump's economic agenda, delayed benefits, and a potential Democrat victory in the mid-terms that could halt efforts to counter their radical policies. The bill needs to pass. Finally, the issue of the Biden autopen is very serious. We can't have nameless Biden administration staffers using it. Rep James Comer calls in to explain that he believes they've identified Biden's staffers who used his autopen and he wants to bring them in to answer questions. If he could prove Biden didn't have knowledge of signings, can the executive orders he used to ‘Trump proof' the federal government be voided? Learn more about your ad choices. As Congressional Republicans try to pass President Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' through the House and Senate, Medicaid is one of the big programs in the party's legislative crosshairs. GOP lawmakers are eyeing upwards of $800 billion in cuts to the safety net health care program over the next decade, in part by imposing new work and eligibility requirements for recipients. But while the president keeps insisting 'no cuts to Medicaid,' the government's calculations suggest the party's plan could cost 10 million Americans their health care coverage. Matt Bruenig, founder of the People's Policy Project, explains why work requirements don't work. And in headlines: Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem got her constitutional rights all mixed up during a Senate hearing, Trump's FDA looks to limit access to Covid booster shots, and New Jersey U.S. Congresswoman LaMonica McIver is charged with assault.Show Notes:Check out Matt's column –www.nytimes.com/2025/05/16/opinion/medicaid-work-requirements-pointless.htmlSubscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

One Small Step: How Everyday Americans Are Writing the Next Chapter of Freedom

In this inspiring episode of American Potential, host David From is joined by Daniel Bassali, Vice President of Public Affairs for Americans for Prosperity, to discuss the launch of the One Small Step campaign—AFP's bold, nationwide effort to celebrate America's 250th anniversary by spotlighting the everyday citizens who are shaping the future of freedom. Bassali explains how One Small Step draws inspiration from iconic figures like Harriet Tubman, Betsy Ross, and Neil Armstrong—people who took action not for fame, but because it mattered. These American pioneers prove that profound change starts with a single courageous act. And today, that legacy lives on in community members testifying at city council meetings, homeschooling moms fighting for education freedom, and students like Caleb Williams who've become powerful policy advocates before the age of 21. Bassali and From explore how AFP serves as a platform to amplify these local voices, empower bottom-up solutions, and fuel a new generation of civic leadership. Whether it's helping someone write a letter to the editor or organizing grassroots momentum around school choice, every small step adds up to something greater. This episode is a rallying cry: You don't need a title or a microphone to make a difference. You just need to take the first step.

One of the biggest contributors of stress that is impacting millions of Americans right now is financial anxiety and economic uncertainty. In fact, according to a recent survey, 70% of the population is feeling the impact of the current economy. Not just mentally, but there's also a physical toll when your overall health, diet, and sleep habits start to slip. With that in mind, I'm sharing tips on mastering your mindset and three (3) simple steps that helped me turn things around from one of the darkest periods of my life in 2008, when I was drowning in debt, to doubling my income in just two months, even as the recession got worse. How did I do it? I leaned into what would become the Miracle Morning and the S.A.V.E.R.S. to focus on improving my financial situation. In doing so, I was able to stop my suffering and depression, regain my peace of mind, and start building momentum again. Story at-a-glance Research shows that 1,848 counties throughout America lack air quality monitoring stations, leaving over 50.7 million citizens unaware of their exposure to harmful pollutants linked to cardiovascular disease Chronic exposure to air pollution significantly increases your risk for high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and heart disease by triggering inflammation and disrupting your body's natural defenses Communities without air quality monitoring are often rural, poorer, or have higher minority populations, meaning the most vulnerable Americans face invisible but severe health threats from unchecked air pollution Simple steps, such as purifying your indoor air, strategically timing outdoor activities, and reducing chemical use at home, will greatly lower your exposure to airborne pollutants Create a pollution-free sanctuary in your bedroom by effectively filtering your indoor air to help your body repair the damage from daily pollution exposure, directly enhancing your overall health

Rubicon: The Impeachment of Donald Trump

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.politix.fmBy the time you listen to this episode, the Republican bill to give rich people trillions in tax cuts, and throw millions of people off of Medicaid will be…somewhere. It could be on the glide path to passage in the House, or on life support, or somewhere in between. But the basic shape of what Republicans want to do, and what Donald Trump wants them to do, is clear. In this episode, Matt and Brian discuss:* How this terrible bill, which many Republicans really do not like, might become law anyhow.* Should this bill, if it passes, change the way Democrats think about the social compact, where productive, younger, more tolerant Americans underwrite Republican populations and politicians that despise them?* Will Republicans be committing political suicide by passing a huge, debt-financed tax cuts given inflation pressures and high interest rates? Then, behind the paywall, the renewed but cursed Joe Biden discourse. Did Biden or his advisers actually perpetrate a coverup of any kind, or is that just hype from reporters and Republicans trying to sell books and hurt Democrats? Do Democrats really need to have any kind of “reckoning” or are the lessons of 2024 and electing extremely old presidents pretty obvious to everyone? And how should they go about engaging in this and other forms of discourse that are frustrating and unhelpful, but impossible to avoid. All that, plus the full Politix archive are available to paid subscribers—just upgrade your subscription and pipe full episodes directly to your favorite podcast app via your own private feed. Further reading:* Update: Biden says his last PSA was in 2014.* Greg Schultz on the REAL reason Democrats lost the 2024 election. (The real reason was that Biden was very old.)* Brian argues Democrats should spend less time staking out positions on controversies, and more time reflecting privately on what their real views are. * Jonathan Cohn on the highly irregular way Republicans are trying to force their tax and Medicaid cuts through the legislative process.

The Center for Disease Control reports that over 48,000 Americans died from synthetic opioid (or fentanyl) overdoses in 2024. That number dwarfed the number of people who died from psychostimulants like methamphetamine at 29,000. As well as cocaine at 22,000, and other naturally occuring drugs at 8,000. Fentanyl and similar substances have changed the game in drug policy, driving greater lethality and creating geopolitical rifts, as China exports precursors to the drug and Mexican cartels smuggle it across the border. Responsible drug policy is complicated and contentious. Here to explain the conservative approach to this area is Paul Larkin, Senior Legal Research Fellow here at the Heritage Foundation. —More by Paul Larkin: https://www.heritage.org/staff/paul-j-larkinHave thoughts? This past week, Americans were captivated by the enigma of Non-Human Intelligence (NHI). In Washington, a planned UAP hearing was abruptly canceled, but behind closed doors, key lawmakers received explosive briefings on secret programs and ongoing cover-ups. With an assist from noted whistleblower David Grusch, a small cadre of expert witnesses fueled these high-stakes discussions. Meanwhile in Oregon, thousands gathered to watch a spectacular parade of bizarre creatures, hammerhead aliens, marching musicians from other galaxies, and noted speakers as part of the McMinnville UFO Fest, which is likely the most colorful gathering of its kind in the world. On social media, our three-part interview with Matthew Brown about Immaculate Constellation and other secrets continued to reverberate and spark debates among UFO luminaries. What lingering questions remain about Brown? In this new episode of WEAPONIZED, Jeremy and George address Matt Brown's claims, answer many of the questions that have surfaced, and provide glimpses of what might come next for Matt and for future whistleblowers. Oh yes, and what about AARO's attempt to muddy the waters regarding the world-famous flying jellyfish? Is this a deliberate distraction or a genuine misstep? This episode covers a lot of ground. President Trump on Tuesday announced a new plan to build a Golden Dome missile defense system. Displaying the design from the Oval Office with his Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Space Force General Michael Guetlein, Trump asserted the new defense infrastructure--estimated to cost between $25 billion and $75 billion--will be a necessary layer of security for the homeland that he says “hopefully we never have to use.” U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) has been a longtime advocate for improving America's missile defenses, on the Rundown she discusses this Golden Dome plan, ongoing diplomacy with Russia and Iran, and her efforts to fight EV mandates. Last Thursday, Walmart announced it would be raising its prices due to the impact of President Trump's tariffs. Americans initially wary of tariffs had cited this concern: that tariffs could bring about price hikes that would eventually hit their wallets. With back-to-school shopping along with the summer holidays and barbecues ahead, some businesses are preparing to adjust. After World War II, Germany was destroyed…the country was divided…the east was under the control of the USSR…the west was in democratic Europe…and then there was berlin, sitting in the east but cut into different zones dominated by the Russians, the Americans, the British, and the French.  Most history books look at the political and military side of things…what we don't hear about nearly as much as how Germany society was rebuilt…imagine being a young person who is too young to have been in the military…what prospects did you have growing up in a divided country ruined by war.  This is where art comes in…art is always downstream from whatever is happening in society…and in the case of West Germany, many artists wanted things to be different.  Young German musicians had some very serious ideas of what needed to be done…many were into rock…but they were determined to create rock that was different from what was being made in the UK and America.  And they certainly didn't want anything resembling traditional German music…it had been tainted by the nazi legacy…it was time for something new, different, and away from the status quo.  There were experiments in the 50s that were pretty radical and, frankly, all over the place…but the results of these experiments began to coalesce into something by the end of the 60s.  Within a few years, something distinctly German had emerged…it rocked (in its own way)…it had elements of psychedelic music…things could either be extremely structured or open to wild improvisation…it certainly wasn't from any blues tradition or normal rock conventions upon which British or American rock was built.  The structures of some compositions weren't exactly what you could call normal—at least not in the context of rock…and occasionally, things got political, but not necessarily in a protest sense.  By the middle 70s, we had a new distinctly German sound…the scene was very diverse in terms of sonics, but there was a Teutonic purpose underlying everything.  The Germans just called it “German rock”…the British, however, gave it another name…it was supposed to be a joke, but the name stuck…and looking back, this sound, approach, aesthetic, and name can be found throughout many different corners of the rock.  This is an explanation of thing that has become known as a “Krautrock”…and believe me, you've heard it more than you realize. Congressman Hurd shares his journey from humble beginnings bagging groceries in Grand Junction to earning law degrees, practicing energy law, and now serving in Congress. Drawing on his experience as a small business owner and father of five, Congressman Hurd discusses how bad energy policy acts as a hidden tax on rural Americans—and why reversing those policies is essential to economic opportunity. He outlines his legislative efforts to return the Bureau of Land Management headquarters to Colorado, promote responsible energy development, and fight for rural families who want to stay, work, and raise their children in the communities they love. The conversation also dives into the importance of making the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent. Congressman Hurd explains how those tax cuts have directly impacted working families and small businesses in his district and why allowing them to expire would be a devastating tax hike on the middle class. From energy independence to economic freedom, Congressman Hurd brings a clear-eyed focus and a personal commitment to building a better future for rural America. When you think about great political comebacks, maybe you think of Donald Trump, or Richard Nixon, or “comeback kid” Bill Clinton. You might soon add Andrew Cuomo to that list. In 2020, Cuomo was at the top of the world. He had been governor of New York for a decade. He had an illustrious career in New York politics—which is sort of the Cuomo family business. He learned how the state worked from his father, three-term Democratic governor Mario Cuomo. When COVID hit, Governor Cuomo's star just kept rising. Millions of Americans—even outside of New York—tuned into his COVID briefings, and his CNN segments with his brother, Chris Cuomo. He was “America's Governor.” On the cover of Rolling Stone. Women and men were even self-identifying as “Cuomosexual.” But then it all came crashing down. With two scandals—one personal and one political. As Covid was peaking in New York City, Andrew Cuomo was hit with a wave of allegations. In the end, state Attorney General Letitia James brought forward a report that alleged Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women. (Cuomo denies wrongdoing.) The other scandal, as many will recall, had to do with Covid—specifically, Cuomo's administration was accused of mishandling the readmission of elders who'd had Covid into nursing homes, and many alleged that he misrepresented the nursing home death count. The governor disputes that, as you'll hear today. By August 2021, Cuomo announced his resignation. His political career appeared to be over. For a time, he totally disappeared from public life. He went from having an audience of 59 million tuning into his Covid briefings to zero. But today, in May of 2025, the picture is dramatically different. Andrew Cuomo is now the front-runner to be the next mayor of New York City. Among Democrats—the party that tore him down—he has a commanding lead, polling at around 37 percent ahead of next month's primary. His closest competitor, 33-year-old socialist state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, is hovering around 18 percent, according to a Marist Marist poll from just last week. So, what is it about Andrew Cuomo? Will New York choose Andrew Cuomo again? And if so, why? What does that say about the state of the city and our political choices? And why does he want the job of mayor at all? Today on Honestly, Bari asks former governor Andrew Cuomo about all of it—Covid and the harassment allegations, but also his vision for New York City, addressing public safety and affordability, his thoughts on school choice, Eric Adams's tenure, the state of the Democratic Party, Donald Trump, illegal immigrants in New York City, Zohran Mamdani, and his plan for getting NYC back on track. The SAVE Act, if it becomes law, will require additional proof of citizenship for all Americans seeking to register -- or reregister -- to vote. The goal? To stop all noncitizens from voting -- which rarely happens. The video examines how this phenomenon isn't limited to white Americans but is increasingly expressed by black Americans themselves. Dice showcases numerous TikTok clips of black creators discussing their own experiences with black fatigue, highlighting community concerns about accountability, criminal behavior, and victimhood mentality. The analysis contrasts these authentic perspectives with how mainstream AI systems like Google and ChatGPT define the term through a cultural Marxist lens. Throughout, Dice demonstrates the double standards in how certain language is policed when discussing these sensitive social issues. ⚠️ Order your shirts here: https://www.markdice.com

Today's Big Stuff is a Monday through Friday newsletter for progressive Americans who want to save their democracy while making fun of people like Donald Trump Jr. and Lauren Boebert who might actually be the same, really dumb person. . Today's Big Stuff (TBS) was founded in early 2019 by “Ready for Hillary” creator and Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko and former White House correspondent and veteran campaign reporter Sam Youngman. What started as a small clip service for six people, quickly expanded as thousands of stressed out Americans searched for a news source that tells it how it is — with lots of sick jokes and cuss words. In 2020, the more than 75,000 members of the Big Stuff community — also known as Sexy Patriots and Big Stufferinoes — mobilized along with 81 million other Americans to send Donald Trump crying back to Mar-a-Lago leaving a trail of urine along the way. And we're just getting started.
