What does the Constitution mean to me? That's a question writer and actor Heidi Schreck asked herself years ago, when she started working on her one-woman play about the Constitution — a document that she loved deeply. Today on the show, we ask the same question as we explore what the historical document means, and how it's impacted generations of Americans. To access bonus episodes and listen to Throughline sponsor-free, subscribe to Throughline+ via Apple Podcasts or at plus.npr.org/throughline.See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy

The Supreme Court just ruled 5-4 that ballots arriving after Election Day can still be counted — handing Democrats another way to turn Election Night into Election Week heading into the midterms. Pat breaks down exactly why this is a massive blow to common sense and election integrity. Chief Justice Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett joined the liberals to uphold Mississippi's law allowing mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day to roll in up to five days later. Nearly 30 states have similar rules, and we have seen how this drags things out — especially in places like California. The majority held that federal law doesn't require ballots to arrive by Election Day, just get postmarked. Dissenting conservatives, including Alito, warned it undermines the whole point of a single Election Day. Pat also covered: Clarence Thomas at the Capitol: 'Meeting nobody' — brushes off reporter cold. Hakeem Jeffries losing control as socialists take over Democrats? Last day of Pride Month — Pat Gray: Are YOU celebrating? "Extreme weather demands sacrifice" — from everyone except EU executives. The Left heading toward MORE violence toward rich Americans. Do you trust that late ballots are always legit, or is this just asking for more problems? Should Election Day actually mean something again? Drop your thoughts below — Pat reads the comments. Americans are grappling with a rising cost in healthcare. For the first time in five years, fewer than half of Americans can consistently afford healthcare. That's according to the latest data from Gallup. The cost of healthcare in the US remains higher than any other large, wealthy country. According to a report from the Department of Health and Human Services, five million fewer people are enrolled in marketplace plans for 2026, compared to last year. That's as average premium costs rose about 58%.With health care costs increasingly becoming a stress for Americans, voters are now making the issue a top priority at the ballot box. And it's an issue that crosses party and geographic lines. According to new polling from The Century Foundation, 71% of Democrats, 66% of Republicans and 75% of rural voters agree that reigning in hospital costs should be a top priority for lawmakers. While new polling from Ipsos and Axios suggests that a majority of Americans say they're more likely to vote for candidates in November who will lower their health costs. How will the issue of healthcare shape the midterms? The episode opens with introductions and a preview of the week's biggest stories [ 00:00 ][ 01:07 ], before the crew settles into lighthearted beach and producer banter [ 03:31 ] and a detour into farmers market culture [ 06:16 ]. They quickly revisit and correct last week's IVF mix-up, clarifying the facts surrounding the widely discussed case and reflecting on the importance of accountability when discussing breaking news [ 08:22 ]. From there, the conversation shifts to broader discussions around relationships and gender expectations [ 12:28 ], before reacting to Megyn Kelly's comments celebrating the revocation of Temporary Protected Status for Haitian immigrants [ 13:44 ]. Mandii shares her experience attending the Haiti vs. Morocco World Cup match, sparking a larger discussion about geography, cultural awareness, and why so many Americans mistakenly fail to recognize Morocco as part of Africa [ 18:04 ]. The discussion then pivots toward crime, accountability, and internet discourse, beginning with the latest Knicks social media debates [ 30:27 ] before unpacking the Terrion Arnold-linked Tampa kidnapping and robbery case [ 31:20]. Comparisons to other high-profile international cases [ 01:08:55 ], conversations about emotional blind spots [ 01:11:30 ], and a broader debate around morality, accountability, and the seven deadly sins [ 01:15:15 ] all lead into updates on the case itself [ 01:20:55 ]. Closing out the episode, the crew turns to entertainment and music, beginning with reactions to Oprah Winfrey's story about Whitney Houston and the resulting online backlash [ 01:26:34 ][ 01:33:22 ], before examining the complicated relationship many audiences have with Oprah herself [ 01:36:20 ]. After a brief detour into NBA merchandise, Knicks collectibles, and sneaker culture [ 01:38:05 ][ 01:38:33 ][ 01:39:23 ], the conversation shifts to Lizzo's criticism of label support amid declining album sales [ 01:39:48 ]. The hosts unpack the realities of music marketing in the streaming era [ 01:41:01 ], public opinion [ 01:42:43 ], body positivity [ 01:44:10 ], and conversations surrounding image, audience perception, and media narratives [ 01:47:38 ][ 01:50:00 ]. They also discuss politics, album branding, commercial performance, and accountability in today's music industry [ 01:51:39 ][ 01:53:24 ][ 01:54:36 ], before celebrating the BET Awards' Lauryn Hill tribute [ 01:56:11 ] and reflecting on her enduring influence through the lens of "Ex-Factor" [ 01:58:18 ]. The episode concludes with thoughts on legacy, prayers for former NFL star Chris Johnson following his ALS diagnosis, Essence Fest, a preview of the upcoming bonus episode, one final mystery surrounding the infamous Knicks trash can, and the show's signature sign-off [ 02:00:48 ][ 02:02:46 ][ 02:04:57 ][02:06:30 ][ 02:08:15 ]. Episode 4164 │ June 30, 2026 After five and a half years, Dominion dropped its lawsuit against Mike Lindell. He's polling number one in Minnesota. WHAT THIS EPISODE COVERS Scott Kesterson sits down with Mike Lindell for a campaign update built around major news: Dominion Voting Systems dropped its five-and-a-half-year lawsuit against Lindell and My Pillow, a vindication that lands the same week LindellTV released 800 pages of documented election fraud evidence — covering proven vulnerabilities, the seven-and-a-half-year Georgia case where security researcher Alex Halderman hacked a Dominion machine live in a courtroom and flipped the results twice, and the broader case for the Save America Act, which polls show 80 percent of Americans including Democrats support. Lindell pushes back on ABC's coverage attacking him for distributing campaign pillows and copies of his autobiography at parades — explaining the campaign legally purchased the items from My Pillow at standard pricing — and details his Minnesota ground game: thousands of yard signs distributed through 67 senate district ambassador teams, a budget rollout within four weeks addressing Minnesota's highest-in-the-nation corporate and income tax rates, and a deer farming regulation story illustrating the regulatory burden driving businesses out of the state. The episode closes with Lindell recounting being told by President Trump that he is "the Patrick Henry of our lifetime" and a story about converting a skeptical gun control questioner at a mostly Democrat event through plain education on the difference between automatic and semi-automatic weapons. KEY QUESTIONS ADDRESSED Why did Dominion drop its lawsuit against Mike Lindell and My Pillow after five and a half years — and what does the 800 pages of evidence released the same week actually document? What happened in the seven-and-a-half-year Georgia voting machine case, and why did a security researcher hacking a Dominion machine live in a courtroom not result in a ruling against the machines? What are Lindell's specific solutions for Minnesota's highest-in-the-nation tax rates, regulatory burden, and welfare fraud — and how does his budget rollout differ from typical campaign promises? This week, we're continuing our archive miniseries, Myths That Built Trickle-Down Economics, with the myth that corporations exist to maximize shareholder value. For decades, Americans were sold the idea that if corporations focused on boosting stock prices and rewarding shareholders, prosperity would trickle down to workers, consumers, and communities. Instead, shareholder primacy helped justify stock buybacks, wage suppression, layoffs, and underinvestment — extracting wealth from the real economy and funneling it upward. In this episode, Nick and Goldy talk with William Lazonick and Lenore Palladino about how shareholder value became one of the core myths of trickle-down economics, why it has caused so much damage, and what it would mean to build corporations around workers, consumers, communities, and long-term prosperity instead. Lenore Palladino is associate professor of economics and public policy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a senior fellow at the Roosevelt Institute, and author of Good Company: Economic Policy After Shareholder Primacy. William Lazonick is professor emeritus of economics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and co-founder and president of the Academic-Industry Research Network. In part two of Red Eye Radio with Gary McNamara and Eric Harley, as America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, a new poll finds Republicans and Democrats sharply divided on patriotism, flag displays and the meaning of the July 4 holiday. The Reuters/Ipsos survey, conducted June 12–15 among 1,537 US adults, asked Americans how they planned to celebrate Independence Day, including whether they intended to display the US flag, attend patriotic events and what the holiday represents to them. The poll found 64% of Republicans said they would display an American flag or flag bunting outside their home this July 4, compared with just 27% of Democrats. Also President Trump demands gas stations lower pump prices immediately and renews push for $2.50 gasoline / and the search for a masculine Democrat. Americans tend to see the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War as milestones in world history that inaugurated the era of modern democracy. But the British, unsurprisingly, see these events quite differently. David Remnick talks with the historians who host the popular podcast “The Rest Is History,” Dominic Sandbrook and Tom Holland. Growing up in Britain, Sandbrook explains, the Revolution seemed like “a parade of quite boring men talking very earnestly about liberty, [with] battles that involved twenty people in a field somewhere. . . . It's not Waterloo!” The King was “annoyed” to lose the thirteen colonies to the new nation, but, for his government, “it could have been a lot worse.” Sandbrook and Holland discuss historical events that overshadow the American Revolution in the British mind; the 1619 Project and the subject of slavery; the “colossally consequential” Presidency of Donald Trump; and the fate of the British monarchy.Further reading :  “Was the Declaration of Independence Better Before the Edits?” by Jill Lepore.  “The American Revolution Wasn't the Main Event” by Daniel Immerwahr. “Two Hundred and Fifty Years of Complicated Commemorations" by Jelani Cobb The Political Scene draws on the reporting and analysis found in The New Yorker for lively conversations about the big questions in American politics. In this pre-July 4th episode of the Derek Hunter Podcast, Dean Karayanis kicks off the celebration of America's 250th anniversary by taking aim at the media's determination to paint the U.S. as a dystopia. Despite negative narratives and travel warnings, international tourists visiting for the World Cup are flooding social media with praise for American life — right down to our air conditioning, Buc-ee's, and Bass Pro Shops. Dean breaks down the condescending media coverage from The New York Times and Politico that report Democrats are deeply uncomfortable with foreign visitors actually enjoying the United States. The monologue transitions to international relations and immigration policy following a Supreme Court ruling on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians and other foreign nationals. Dean criticizes the media's framing of the Iranian national soccer team's elimination and calls out establishment figures like Mike DeWine and John Kasich for condescending, racist portrayals of Haitians, along with comparisons to the strict border enforcement policies of the Dominican Republic and Canada. Finally, drawing from his latest column in the New York Sun, Dean looks back at economic history to debunk Pope Leo's declaration of food as “a basic human right.” By revisiting Governor William Bradford's diaries, he explains how even the deeply pious Pilgrims at Plymouth Colony tried and quickly abandoned collectivism because it fundamentally goes against human nature. Dean closes with a patriotic reminder of the patriots who won the nation's independence — including 25% of Americans at the Battle of Yorktown who were Black — and issues a call to celebrate the American experiment.

Today's Headlines: Trump's America 250 Great American State Fair opened on the National Mall in the rain, the power went out, the ferris wheel didn't work, there was no fair food, at least 10 states declined to send delegations, and Trump called it "packed to the brim" — the North Carolina booth displayed a Confederate flag overlay on a video loop before sponsors pulled out, which is on brand for an event whose main attractions were a Turning Point USA booth and a broken ferris wheel. Trump also unveiled a limited edition passport featuring his own face with the words "welcome, but be good!," announced plans to renovate a DC golf course starting September 1st, and personally inspected Lafayette Park to ensure it will have exactly 47 maple trees because he's the 47th president. The administration also announced the "Patriot Games" — aka the Hunger Games — a high school athletic competition on the National Mall in August where kids from each state compete for a $250,000 scholarship they split two ways, streaming on ESPN. The Iran war is back on: Trump announced strikes on Iranian targets after an attack on a commercial tanker, threatened to "militarily complete the job," Iran responded by asserting full control of the Strait, threatening to halt negotiations, and launching drone and missile attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait — while Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement requiring Israel to withdraw if Lebanon verifies Hezbollah has been fully dismantled, with the US committing $100 million in humanitarian aid. On the Russia beat, coup rumors against Putin got louder this weekend as Russia continues losing in Ukraine, Putin has dramatically increased his personal security, and former Russian defense minister Sergei Ivanov — once seen as Putin's potential successor — died at 73, with his death announced first by a basketball organization he was honorary president of, which is suspicious to say the least. In other news, a new CNN analysis found that Americans in Democratic congressional districts live longer, with nearly 70% of House Democrats representing districts where life expectancy exceeds the national average versus over 70% of Republicans representing districts where it falls below, alongside higher rates of diabetes, obesity, and uninsured residents in Republican districts. Mississippi passed a law creating a registry of undocumented immigrants to share with ICE, covering fewer than 30,000 people out of nearly 3 million state residents. And finally, a dangerous heat dome is forecast for the central and eastern US just in time for July 4th celebrations, so happy 250th America. At the same time, recent polling reveals a dramatic decline not just in Gen Z patriotism, but all Americans regardless of age, as more Americans question the nation's founding principles, reject American exceptionalism, and struggle to explain what makes the United States unique. This episode examines how America reached this point, analyzes the shocking progressive primary upset in New York's 13th District, and explains what every generation must do to preserve the American Creed. What You'll Learn In This Episode: Why World Cup visitors saw an America that many Americans no longer recognize  How America gradually lost a shared national identity and why that threatens the future of the republic  The difference between patriotism, healthy nationalism, and the balkanization of tribal identity  What Barbara from Harlem's extraordinary life reveals about gratitude, resilience, and the true meaning of patriotism  Why understanding America's founding principles remains essential to preserving liberty for future generations  Topics Covered: American exceptionalism, American identity, American Creed, patriotism, Constitution, Declaration of Independence, America 250, World Cup, Gen Z patriotism, Western civilization, civic education, Darializa Avila Chevalier, Why Socialism Fails, Believe in America, July 4th, Independence Day

For the final episode of The Al Franken Podcast, we're joined one last time by our good friend Dahlia Lithwick, Senior Editor at Slate and host of the Amicus podcast! As we await the Supreme Court's remaining decisions, we turn to Dahlia to recap a bleak judicial term, including the decisions to gut the Voting Rights Act, strip immigrants of their Temporary Protected Status, and expel transgender servicemembers from the military.Dahlia and Al look past the mainstream media's narrative of a "moderate" bench to reveal an institution deeply aligned with MAGA's political playbook that continues to make way for an imperial presidency. On a more hopeful note, Dahlia offers a blueprint for how regular citizens can find their lane and fight back from the ground up. Dahlia issues a call for Americans to move past "learned helplessness" to dismantle the cult of the Court and return constitutional power to the people.LISTEN to Dahlia's podcast, Amicus:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/amicus-with-dahlia-lithwick-law-justice-and-the-courts/id928790786READ Dahlia in Slate Magazine: https://slate.com/author/dahlia-lithwick

Ever since the Homestead Act of 1862, the U.S. government has worked to help everyday Americans own a piece of their nation. One important innovation was the 30-year fixed rate mortgage, a uniquely American loan that helped supercharge homeownership in the U.S. after World War II. But not every effort by the government to increase homeownership has paid off. But 45% aren't.In this episode, I'm breaking down the 5 things separating the people quietly building wealth from the people quietly drowning in 2026. This isn't theory. On Friday's Mark Levin Show, WJNO's Brian Mudd fills in for Mark. If you read the news, do you feel your intelligence has been insulted? There's an old saying: those who can't do, teach. When it comes to the media, those who don't know, report. It's been a great week for the U.S. tanker traffic which has almost returned to normal pre-war levels, the price of oil has returned to normal for summer, and the Trump Administration has brokered an agreement between the U.S., Israel and Lebanon. Yet according to the media, the world is terrible. There may be two sides to every story, but there's only one side to facts. So if you think your intelligence has been insulted, you're right. Then, the Senate still can't get its act together and pass the SAVE America Act. Why is this important? Voter fraud has always existed. In Florida, the DOJ announced three arrests of non-citizens for voting in federal elections. Three cases in one week in a red state. How much worse is voter fraud in sanctuary states and cities? With the midterm elections coming up, and voter ID being a 90/10 issue with Americans, we still can't get the SAVE America Act across the finish line. Also, the election integrity project ranks election integrity all over the world. The U.S. scores 54. California's score is 35, lower than Haiti at 37. Between mail-in voting, ballot harvesting and other shenanigans, no wonder they're still counting votes in the CA primary. When you have blue states like CA bent on lowering election standards, federal minimum requirements, like voter ID, must come into play. Finally, the extent of the Democrat's long game is underappreciated. Starting with Saul Alinsky in the 1960s, then with the elections of Bernie Sanders in 1990, Barack Obama in 2004, The Squad in 2018, and Zohran Mamdani in 2025, the Democrats have moved further and further to the hard left. Trump is right: the midterm elections have never been more important. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

At the time of release, we are still waiting to see if Iran will face consequences for violating the ceasefire agreement. Is this a step toward peace in the Middle East or a band-aid? With America 250 on the horizon, Ron takes a look at how Americans view their country, patriotism, and the definition of freedom. One poll shows a shocking gap between Democrats and Republicans. In this episode, Lisa Boothe sits down with SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler to discuss the remarkable surge in small business formation across America and why entrepreneurs are more optimistic than they’ve been in years. Loeffler explains how President Trump’s America First economic agenda—including tax cuts, deregulation, energy production, and trade policies—is helping fuel record levels of business creation and job growth. She also addresses why many Americans still feel uneasy about the economy despite positive economic indicators and what it will take to restore consumer confidence. The conversation dives into the federal government's efforts to combat waste, fraud, and abuse, including the SBA’s aggressive pursuit of fraudulent pandemic-era loans and its partnership with technology firms to recover billions in taxpayer dollars. Loeffler also discusses new initiatives to prioritize American-made products in federal purchasing and strengthen domestic manufacturing. Start protecting what you've worked hard for, right now. 6/25/26 - Supreme Court SHUTS DOWN Liberal Justices On Border Security | Brian Mudd Fills In

    Mark Levin Podcast

On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, WJNO's Brian Mudd fills in for Mark. Two major SCOTUS decisions on border security today. First, the Court ruled 6-3 that you have to be in the U.S. to make an asylum claim. In the other, the Court again ruled 6-3 that the Trump Administration can revoke temporary protection status from Syrian and Haitian migrants. The three liberal justices tried to argue that you don't actually have to be "in" the U.S. to make an asylum claim, and "temporary" actually means indefinitely. Does the rule of law mean anything to these justices? Could it be that they are radical progressives who don't know right from wrong and want to abolish Constitutional law? Then, most people today don't appreciate the historically great leadership we have or how much has been accomplished in a short time. Since January, he has split off Venezuela from China and disabled the Iranian terror regime and their ability to build nuclear weapons and start World War III. The focus has been on affordability. Consider that 100 years ago, during the Roaring Twenties, people thought things were great. Now, average life expectancy and household income are higher, we have things like indoor plumbing, electricity and A/C, and China has been kneecapped thanks to Trump cutting off their supply of oil. We need to appreciate just how good we have it. Finally, there is a new Cold War...and we're losing. Whoever wins the AI race will be the new superpower. China has excess data center capacity, yet the only thing Americans are more united on in their opposition to data centers is voter ID. China just announced they've built the world's most powerful supercomputer. It's simple: if China out-computes us, they defeat us. Learn more about your ad choices.
