Episode SummaryIn this episode of OnBase, host Chris Moody sits down with Chad Holdorf to discuss how agentic AI is revolutionizing B2B go-to-market strategies. They explore the rise of AI-driven agents, why automation leaders are doubling down on AI, and the biggest mistakes B2B teams make with AI adoption. Chad also shares real-world use cases from Demandbase, showing how AI agents streamline workflows, enhance intent-based targeting, and deliver predictive recommendations to sales and marketing teams. If you're a sales or marketing leader, this episode will give you actionable insights on how to integrate AI-powered GTM workflows while ensuring data accuracy, personalization, and efficiency.Key takeaways:AI Agents Are Reshaping GTM – AI-driven agents can help 10x productivity, making teams more efficient while removing friction from sales and marketing workflows. The Biggest AI Mistake – Companies focus too much on the technology itself rather than on solving real customer problems. AI should be outcome-driven.From Data Overload to Actionable Insights – AI-driven intent signals analyze vast amounts of GTM data, surfacing key insights and next best actions for sales and marketing teams.AI SDRs Are Failing Without Context – AI agents that lack proper customer data make embarrassing mistakes, like sending irrelevant emails to buyers who already know the product.Agent Base: AI with Context & Accuracy – Demandbase's Agent Base ensures that AI-driven sales and marketing actions are informed by accurate, unified data, preventing misalignment between teams.AI Must Be Embedded in the Workflow – AI agents should enhance existing workflows rather than requiring users to switch between multiple tools, ensuring smooth execution.Future of AI in B2B – The next wave of AI will focus on deep research capabilities, personalized recommendations, and predictive actions, eliminating guesswork for GTM teams.Quotes:"The most powerful AI agents aren't just about automation – they're about solving real customer problems and making revenue teams more effective.""Without the right data, AI agents are just noise. The difference between success and failure in AI-driven GTM is data accuracy and context."Best moments:03:00–05:00: Chad shares his journey to Demandbase and his vision for AI-powered GTM strategies.08:00–10:00: Why AI adoption is skyrocketing but the execution still lags behind in B2B companies.12:00–15:00: Breaking down how Agent Base delivers real-time AI-driven insights without adding complexity.18:00–22:00: The biggest failures of AI SDRs and how data-driven AI agents can solve these issues.25:00–30:00: The future of AI in sales & marketing – from predictive modeling to agent-driven engagement.Tech recommendations:Perplexity AI – AI-powered deep research for customer insights & content generation.OpenAI / Gemini – AI tools for data processing & workflow automation.Book recommendations:The Inner Game of Tennis by W. Talent is a productively tangible commodity which is distributed differently to all of us in diverse formats.   How we choose to implement and utilize such skills is an independent decision we all must make individually.  However, the one thing we cannot do is sit on the sidelines of contribution to the conversation of progress because its how we collectively move forward.  From a business standpoint how productive are we at work and are we reaching our fullest potential as a workforce?  We will revisit such a notion in just a moment however, in the meantime, I wanted to provide you with some thoughts from a LinkedIn national survey from March of this year, which revealed 74% of employees say they are not reaching their full potential at work.  Mainly due to a lack of motivation, burnout and the repetitive nature of the work. Which naturally leads to the question of how do we ignite the passion for work again?  Whether it be from an entrepreneurial or corporate world standpoint.  For interestingly thoughtful answers I enlisted the thoughts of Zachary Parker Harris.  He's a Entrepreneur and Mastermind of Masterminds he also serves as the president of Junto Global.  Junto Global is a mastermind of entrepreneurs and business leaders. Our inspiration stems from Benjamin Franklin's iconic Junto of 1727, and we've taken his timeless philosophy to heart. At Junto Global, we believe in combining the wisdom of the past with the latest advancements. Our platform empowers members to unlock their full potential and reach new heights in their personal lives, businesses, and communities. Our monthly masterminds brings together like-minded individuals from around the world to collaborate and create meaningful impact.  By the time he was 17 years old, Parker started his first company, became a board member for multiple nonprofits, and was also recruited by the President of the Unites States to speak at Leadership Conferences across the country. At 20 years old he almost died in a car accident and made the choice to walk people out of his life that were taking advantage of him and start fresh. At 23, he landed his dream job working for a Fortune 100 technology company doing operations and strategy. After getting to know the executives there and asking the advice they gave their children he realized he must choose a different path. He started a mastermind modeled after Benjamin Franklin that overtime became his business and mission. Selling your Company to Salesforce - with Mike Micucci, former Salesforce Commerce Cloud, CEO

Metrics that Measure Up - B2B SaaS Analytics

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 23, 2021 35:54

Imagine the experiences gained and lessons learned from founding your own SaaS company, selling it to Saleforce and then becoming the CEO of a Salesforce Business Unit. That was the journey Mike Micucci, who recently left Salesforce eleven years after selling his start-up to Salesforce in 2009 and ultimately rose through the ranks to be the CEO of the Commerce Cloud business.Mike shares the story behind founding GroupSwim, an early B2B collaboration platform that became the foundation for Salesforce Chatter. Then Mike shares the story behind how community cloud and commerce cloud came together, with both a B2B and B2C - or even a B2B2C offering. Over the last 10 years, Commerce Cloud has grown to be over a $1B business and you can rest assured that Metrics were at the heart of most of Mike's strategic decisions.Mike's experiences started when I first met Mike in the initial "vortex" of B2B eCommerce in 1997 - 2001 where he was an integral part of the product management senior leadership teams at Netscape and Commerce One. Then in 2005 he founded GroupSwim, and had firmly established Product Market Fit by the beginning of 2009 when he received two different offers to purchase GroupSwim.Following the GroupSwim acquisition, Mike decided to accept the opportunity to be part of the Corporate Social Network initiative within Salesforce - yes Chatter which launched in 2010. From that experience, Mike pitched the concept of "Community Cloud" to Marc Benioff and Parker Harris. The vision was to build a solution to connect the different "communities" within Salesforce to other communities and companies.By 2020, Community Cloud had reached 650 million users. Interesting that Community Cloud is measured by usage, growth and how much revenue they influence on the other core clouds. Mike shares the Salesforce relentless focus on customer input and feedback into the product lifecycle, especially through the use of Customer Advisory Boards (CAB's) which provides a primary to the product roadmap. In fact, the concept of Commerce Cloud was originally stimulated by a customer who had built their own commerce capability into Community Cloud in 2014.Later in 2014 Salesforce launched Commerce Cloud at Dreamforce. By 2016 Community Cloud and Commerce Cloud became one Salesforce Cloud business unit. Mike share how Digital Commerce grew more in 2020 then in the past few years combined. When COVID first hit, Mike saw his dashboards showing how volume on Commerce Cloud spiked starting in March. Finally, Mike shared he segments metrics into usage metrics and operational metrics. Operational metrics on commerce starts with GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) which hit over $50B GMV in 2020. DAU/MAU (Daily Average Users/Monthly Average Users) was a key metric used to evaluate the health of his business unit. ACV (Annual Contract Value), AOV (Average Order Value) and churn was also tracked daily as key operational metrics. Mike also shares why "branding" and "pricing" are the two hardest aspects of building a Cloud business. In fact, he went into detail on the benefit of a blended pricing model that uses both a subscription model plus usage based pricing levers. One of the hardest parts of a variable usage based pricing model is how best to forecast variable revenue.Mike's story reflects the opportunity, reality and journey that so many corporate leaders in the Cloud have experienced over the last 20+ years. If you are looking for inspiration coupled with detailed insights into how an entrepreneur's journey can evolve from the corporate world to being a founder and then on to the CEO of a $1B+ cloud business, this is a great listen!

As the cold days of November creep upon us and we fall slowly into the dreary days of winter, the WizardCast harkens back to warmer days. Days where the sun was hot, the leaves were green, and we sat down with the great Peter Coffee at MidWest Dreamin' Peter Coffee is the VP of Strategic Research at salesforce.com. He always has some delightful perspectives and stories that make you stop and think. I always walk away from a discussion with Peter both feeling smarter and dumber. It's a very unique experience. This is part 3 of our conversation with Peter Coffee. The first episode, The Fellowship of Peter Coffee WizardCast Episode 76 we talked about Salesforce Admins being the Stewards of Change. In our second episode, Experience Design with Peter Coffee WizardCast 78 we talked about experience design. In our third and final episode from our discussion at MidWest Dreamin' we are talking about Silo Busting. Silo Busting is an interesting - albeit violent - metaphor for breaking down the barriers at an organization. It's about changing our perspective and how we think. Peter uses the example of a bookstore. Don't ask: What should a bookstore do in an age of Amazon? Instead ask: In an age with Amazon, what should a bookstore be?  This changes your perspective and how we look at a problem by redefining the issue. Our jobs as Salesforce Admins and Developers are very much the same. As Peter Coffee says in this episode "Because they're not trying to do it the way you used to do it with a new tool. They're saying with this tool, this is the way to do it." (16:45) Too often do we try to follow an old process using Salesforce instead of determining the best process because we're using Salesforce. Peter Coffee was nice enough to talk with Brian and Mark on many topics. Here's part two of our conversation with Peter Coffee, VP of Strategic Research at Salesforce, from Midwest Dreamin' 2018. The topic is Experience Design. What is experience design? Experience design is the practice of designing products, processes, services, events, and environments with a focus placed on the quality of the user experience. The photo tag is "Don't pave your cow paths." Peter tells us about Boston paving over the cow paths versus designing a car-oriented transportation grid. It's the equivalent of simply taking a paper process and making it digital without taking the time to design the process around the user using the digital process. Have you ever sat down and watched how your users do their jobs? Putting yourself in the customers/user's shoes gives you insight on how you should design your process/product. As Peter mentions, most products you can buy today are pretty good compared to what we could get just a couple of decades ago. Using experience design to develop a GOOD experience will make you stand out in the crowd. Peter users cows, cars, airlines and even tasers as examples of experience design's - or lack there of - impact. Peter Coffee returns to share his wisdom and experience. Peter is the VP for Strategic Research at Salesforce. He often speaks on the vision of the Salesforce as a platform and company and shares strategy for companies all over the world. Peter was kind enough to sit down with Mark and Brian at Midwest Dreamin 2018. He's been one of our favorite guests and was our guest in our very first live recording of the Wizardcast - also at Midwest Dreamin. We start with a story of Peter on a reality TV show in India. Then our topic changes to talk about change. We discuss how change is difficult and how we must change our perspective & put ourselves in the customer’s shoes. Peter always has great insights and stories. He reminds us to be the steward of change not the seller of change. Peter also provides us with some actions that we can do today in order to help be the stewards of change in our own organizations. Some of my favorite quotes from Peter this episode: "People are far more averse to failure than they are attracted by possibilities of success" Peter Coffee 17:10 "Walk around your company where a critical process is only embodied in a spreadsheet or a critical set of data is only kept in a spreadsheet." 35:52 "Failure to change is a greater risk than change" 40:00 "What you did was Brilliant success and I want you to continue to be brilliantly successful tomorrow" 40:55 Show Overview Last Time on the WizardCast 0:00 Introduction 1:15 Terrible Joke 02:15 Survey Request https://bit.ly/70skidsurvey 02:35 Time for a Coffee Break 3:20 Peter Coffee on a Realty TV Show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zBL7EVlyD4 3:54 Official Introduction to Peter Coffee 14:35 Origin of the Work of Art  15:45 "People are far more adverse to failure than possibilities of success" Peter Coffee 16:51 "May be bringing a basket of kittens to someone with a cat allergy" Peter Coffee comments toward Account Executives 16:55 What Can I do about it? We're live at Midwest Dreamin 2018! Wednesday, July 11th, was the opening night for Midwest Dreamin. There was a great session by Mike Gerholdt about navigating your career. It was followed by a interesting discussion with Kevin Poorman and Heather Dykstra about removing titles, design review, and how to talk and plan as a team. Then it was the opening reception. Cheese, grapes, and crackers in the expo hall. It was a good time to walk around the room to see which vendors were there and plan for the next day. It was also a great networking time. Unfortunately, Mark Ross was stuck on a plane. It just so happened that my Dreamforce Guest Co-host was at Midwest Dreamin and happily joined me. Thanks Benjamin Bolopue! We start with a series of terrible jokes from Patrick Solum We're then joined by Brad Gross and Amber Boaz. Listeners may remember Amber from when she Guest Hosted last year and talked about getting Dreamforce Ready. We started by talking about why we were here at Midwest Dreamin and why it was an important event. It quickly changed into talking about a 4 day roadtrip in an RV from Chicago to Dreamforce. It a great story so I simply had to share it here. Then we ended it. We'll be doing a more formal episode - hopefully with Mark - later this week. Stay Tuned.   HELP US SPREAD THE WORD! Our culture loves telling the story of one man taking on the world, working hard to do everything for himself. We build our movies and our myths around this archetype, and then unconsciously model it in our own lives. Useful as this type of path is, and even a necessary starting step, what comes next in the heroic journey? The lone warrior must eventually learn how to deal with other people. He must form a tribe of ideas and perspectives that complement his own. He must be humble enough to know that however capable he is on his own, he will be more capable with the help of others. This humility only comes after he has earned healthy pride. Parker Harris runs Junto Global, a networking organization for high-performing, high-ambition entrepreneurs dedicated to creating massive change in their lives and the world. Inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s meetings about 12 of his most respected and intelligent peers, Junto aims to enable individuals to act beyond their solo potential. This is a step that many capable individuals never reach in their development. Education was once about helping people figure who they are, what they care about, and how to think about life. Today, it primarily serves to get the members of a society to act in a way that is considered in line with cultural and social values. We no longer need centralized schooling models to learn basic survival skills, as survival is now more nuanced and varied than any single path could ever adequately cover. Foremost, children need to learn how to communicate harmoniously and interact with one another. When young people first realize that they have never made their own choices, they move into an individualist, “me vs. the world”, state of mind to find themselves in solitude on their own personal journey. They perceive collective thinking as the enemy. Mental traumas are often the result of thinking we are something other than what we are. Accurate thinking is the solution to this needless suffering. Exceptional people are prone to numbing themselves to the problems of society because they are hypersensitive to chaos and suffering. If they don’t learn to focus on the problems and passions that are most important to them, they might waste their lives and suffer needlessly until they die. Our lives are determined by the quality of the questions we ask and the problems we attempts to solve. You cannot know yourself completely if you come from either end of the suffering spectrum: abundance of everything or lack of anything. You need to see how you act under both conditions to see what you are capable of, and then comfortably navigate throughout the middle. Your ability to experience deep suffering directly affects your ability to experience deep joy and fulfillment. You are more grounded in your pursuits when you have suffered, more dedicated, and more focused. You appreciate every win. Delayed gratification is a product of maturity. Mature, well-tested people can look far into the future with their actions and go through tough trials that eventually lead to greater reward. Immature people have no tolerance for such trials. The ability to accomplish what you want is dependent on first having the right experiences, acquiring the right tools, and meeting the right people.   “It’s not what you don’t know that’s going to hurt you. It’s what you know that isn’t so.” Mark Twain     Things mentioned: Junto Global: http://getstarted.juntoglobal.com/ UCWG 031: Do You Dare To Follow Your Hero’s Journey to Find Self-Actualization?
