What if being overlooked was the best thing that ever happened to your business? When Wandra Cain walked into showrooms and got ignored, she didn't flinch—she made a mental note. That “Pretty Woman” moment stuck with her, not as a grievance, but as fuel. She'd always had a sharp eye and a natural gift for pulling beauty out of limitation, but that experience sharpened her resolve to create a design business that didn't ask for permission to be taken seriously. She built WCA Interiors from the ground up, not with flashy backing or a big team, but with intention, consistency, and a deep belief that her work belonged, regardless of who initially acknowledged it. Her journey started with pivots. From corporate desk jobs to cosmetology school, and eventually to earning her interior design degree while working full-time, she followed the tug toward creativity even when the path forward looked unclear. Early projects tested her—contractors challenged her decisions, budgets fell apart, and she didn't always know how to protect her time or profit. But instead of hiding the hard parts, she leaned in. Every mistake became a tool. Every misstep taught her how to run a better project, have firmer boundaries, and value her own expertise. What really sets Wandra apart is her ability to show up with humility and confidence at the same time. She leads projects with warmth, listens deeply to clients, and isn't afraid to say no when the fit or the numbers are off. Even with over 11,000 Instagram followers, she's more focused on building genuine relationships—online and off—than chasing engagement. For her, design isn't about ego or aesthetic signatures; it's about helping people feel truly at home in their spaces. The business didn't happen overnight. It was ten years of quiet hustle, small wins, big learning curves, and showing up again the next day. You'll learn: ✅ How to lead projects (and set boundaries) when contractors push back ✅ Why visibility matters—and how Wandra handled being underestimated ✅ Systems and client processes that helped her turn a hobby into a real business ✅ What she's doing now to market her firm without burning out on Instagram If you're an interior designer looking to grow a business that reflects who you are—and makes money doing it—this is the episode that's going to help you get there. Listen now and remember: being underestimated might be your greatest edge. (0:00) The “Pretty Woman” moment that shaped Wandra's mindset (0:50) Wandra's origin story and entering the interior design world (4:40) Why representation in the design industry matters (12:30) Pivoting from cosmetology to design and going back to school (15:50) Learning the hard way: pricing, client management, and early business mistakes (22:40) Building confidence and refining systems and client processes (30:50) Grassroots marketing, networking, and digital growth About Wandra Cain Wandra Cain is the founder and principal designer of WCA Interiors, a full-service interior design firm based in Easton, Pennsylvania. With a focus on creating refined yet livable luxury, Wandra believes that a well-designed home should serve as a sanctuary, capturing the spirit of the client and enhancing their lifestyle. Her approach emphasizes collaboration, ensuring each space reflects its inhabitants' unique personalities and needs. Website Instagram: @wcainteriors

Pretty Woman was released in 1990. One of the most beloved and successful romantic comedies of all time, the film tells the Cinderella story of a sex worker, played by Julia Roberts, who finds love with a slick businessman - Richard Gere - after he picks her up on Hollywood Boulevard.Fast forward to 2025 and the astonishing Oscar success of Anora - director Sean Baker's tale of a young sex worker whose whirlwind affair with a Russian billionaire's son turns bad, fast.So how has the way we treat sex work on screen changed? Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode delve into the long and thorny relationship between cinema and sex work. Mark speaks to film historian and critic Pamela Hutchinson about how sex work has been tackled in over a hundred years of movies - from early silent films like Pandora's Box, to the work of Sean Baker. They discuss Jane Fonda's Oscar-winning turn as a ‘call girl' in Klute, and look at how male sex worker films like Midnight Cowboy might approach the subject differently. Meanwhile, Ellen talks to Andrea Werhun, the writer, performer and real-life sex worker who served as a consultant on Anora - about her work on the film, and her love for another Richard Gere sex work film, American Gigolo. And Ellen also speaks to Kristen Lovell and Zachary Drucker, whose 2023 documentary The Stroll traced the history of trans sex workers in New York City's Meatpacking District. Kristen and Zachary discuss why sex work has been a key part of trans history - and what they think Anora's success means for sex workers. For their first Pateon exclusive episode, two lovestruck film critics, two "Crazy for Swayze" dads, and two ditto-making school teachers, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan, check off a few delightful and dreamy boxes with an opposite on the 1990 smash hit "Ghost." The movie has been in Don's all-time Top 10 for decades, and Will---coming off a 1990 binge with his recent first-time viewing of "Pretty Woman"---finally caved to curiosity and pressure to check off the Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg vehicle from his list of blind spots. Say ditto with them as they expound long-held and newfound praise for one of the romantic greats! Come learn more and stay for the mutual love and respect that fun movies encapsulate. Many women find themselves in a cycle of short-term success, only to lose momentum and start over again.I call this Cinderella Consciousness—a mindset rooted in imposter syndrome, low self-worth, and the illusion that transformation happens overnight.Movies like Cinderella, Pretty Woman, Clueless, and The Princess Diaries reinforce this idea, but they don't show what it actually takes to sustain success. If your business, brand, or identity is built on faking it till you make it, you'll always struggle to maintain the success you create. In this episode, I break down:The symptoms of Cinderella Consciousness and how to spot themWhy short-term wins don't lead to lasting successThe root cause of self-sabotage and constantly starting overHow to shift into the Queen Mindset—one built on sustainability, strategy, and long-term successIt's time to break free from survival mode and step into the identity of a Queen. Von Hard Rock zum Blues – Gary Moores Neuanfang mit "Still Got The Blues (For You)" Mit "Still Got The Blues (For You)" schlug Gary Moore eine neue musikalische Richtung ein – weg vom Hard Rock, hin zum Blues. Still Got The Blues (For You)" aufzunehmen. King. Zudem wirkte George Harrison an "That Kind Of Woman" mit. "Still Got The Blues" – Ein Meilenstein der Musikgeschichte Was hat George Harrison mit "Still Got The Blues" zu tun? __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "Still Got The Blues" wird im Podcast gesprochen (03:49) – "Texas Strut"(16:02) – "Still Got The Blues (For You)"(35:57) – "Moving On"(41:07) – "Oh, Pretty Woman "(49:42) – "King Of The Blues"(1:04:03) – "That Kind Of Woman"__________ Über diese Songs wird außerdem im Podcast gesprochen (09:49) – "All Your Love" von Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton(28:11) – "Dana" von Roland Kovac(29:14) – "Nordrach" von Jud's Gallery(34:44) – "Still In Love With You" von Thin Lizzy(41:08) – "Pretty Woman" von Roy Orbison(41:45) – "Oh, Pretty Woman" von Albert King (53:57) – "Broken Heart" von B.B. In this episode of Mind Shift, Aaron and Erwin McManus dive deep into the rapid growth of the Mind Shift Podcast, reflecting on its impact and the evolution of their community. They introduce the $25/month Mind Shift membership, which offers private episodes, community calls, and exclusive content on the app "Skool" explaining why they chose it over Patreon. The conversation shifts to the Academy Awards, where they discuss the growing gap between Hollywood's elite and general audiences. Films like Emilia Perez and Anora become focal points, sparking a debate on whether the Academy prioritizes ideological messaging over compelling storytelling. Erwin points out how many of these films fail to resonate with everyday viewers, raising questions about Hollywood's direction and the broader cultural narratives shaping entertainment.Aaron and Erwin also examine how certain films normalize controversial themes, such as sex work. They discuss Anora and its portrayal of prostitution, reflecting on past films like Pretty Woman that romanticized the industry. Drawing from Erwin's personal experience working with individuals involved in prostitution, they highlight the harsh realities behind the glamorized depictions. This leads to a broader discussion on the influence of pornography, sex work, and the media's role in shaping perceptions about these industries. As the discussion turns to media influence, Aaron and Erwin explore how public narratives are often manipulated. They dissect government policies, media distortion, and how news outlets selectively frame stories to serve political agendas. Erwin shares an example involving the deportation of Venezuelan gang members, pointing out how the media spins narratives to fit ideological viewpoints. They stress the difficulty of discerning truth in an era where misinformation and bias dominate the conversation. The political landscape is another major theme, with Aaron and Erwin analyzing the shifting ideologies within the Democratic and Republican parties. They discuss how political identities evolve, touching on nationalism, global ideologies like communism, and the broader impact of cultural identity on national policies. They reflect on both major parties and the growing polarization in society. The episode concludes with personal reflections on the importance of open dialogue and deeper conversations. Aaron and Erwin emphasize the role of podcasts like Mind Shift in fostering nuanced discussions that challenge mainstream narratives. Erin Prus recorded the initial Anora episode, Part 1, January 2025 when the movie had already earned plenty of accolades. Weeks later, in February 2025 with even more news swirling about the movie and Oscar buzz, this follow-up episode was recorded. Is the controversy surrounding the movie, which did not have an intimacy coordinator on set, worth debating over? Does it make the movie better, or worse? Does it make Anora, as a work of art, a bolder creative act? Are comparisons to the Julia Roberts and Richard Gere romantic comedy Pretty Woman appropriate? Plus, we discuss stunt coordinators, sports cars, the Madonna-whore concept, and the 2016-2022 HBO series Westworld.-A teacher-journalist turned content designer and UX writer, Erin Prus is no stranger to career pivots. She's been consulting for two seemingly disparate clients in the health tech and horticulture spaces, two things she cares deeply about. Also, she's scheduled to wrap up a forthcoming memoir later this year. When she's not working, Erin loves being outside, spending time with her French Bulldog Rumi, doing Pilates, and watching movies with her son.https://www.cincinnatimagazine.com/article/rachel-chertoffs-bedside-jewelry-is-the-kind-you-never-want-to-take-off/ https://www.edibleohiovalley.com/eov/2022/cincy-urban-farm?rq=CincyUrbanhttps://www.fotofocus.org/2018/10/30/the-biennial-in-book-form/ https://mooprintms.wpengine.com/blog/inspiration/behind-brand-refresh-500px#more-12827-Anora (2024)https://collider.com/first-oscar-winner-actress-janet-gaynor-street-angel-anora/ https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/intimacy-coordinators-challengers-porn-hollywood-oscar-1235910610/ https://medium.com/elucidationtoday/intimacy-coordinator-creating-a-culture-of-consent-in-filmmaking-a805ed4b747e https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/anora-iatse-union-set-1236162501/ https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/views/lives/69502/sex-life-in-defence-of-anora https://variety.com/2024/film/news/anora-intimacy-coordinator-respond-mikey-madison-sean-baker-1236254012/ https://variety.com/2024/film/news/pamela-anderson-mikey-madison-anora-intimacy-coordinators-1236241323/ https://www.vox.com/culture/402258/anora-ocscars-mikey-madison-sean-baker-best-picture -Madonna-whore complex/concepthttps://www.ebony.com/blacks-and-the-madonna-whore-complex-333/ https://www.modernintimacy.com/the-psychology-of-the-madonna-whore-complex/ https://sites.psu.edu/aspsy/2015/10/03/madonna-whore-complex/https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/sexual-futurist/202401/embrace-the-sacred-and-profane-in-your-relationships https://theconversation.com/madonna-or-whore-frigid-or-a-slut-why-women-are-still-bearing-the-brunt-of-sexual-slurs-99292 https://www.thecut.com/article/tradwife-cooking-for-husband-fulfillment.html https://www.themarysue.com/hbo-westworld-feminism/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHmHesDYPzw -Other movies and shows discussed, alphabetical listBlade Runner (1982)Cinderella (1955, 1965, 1977, 2015, 2021)Grease (1978)Hustlers (2019)Pretty Woman (1990)The Stepford Wives (1975, 2004)Striptease (1996)Westworld (series, 2016-2022)

Recently, there have been a few "sex scandals" involving Spanish politicians. First, there's the Minister and the Escort (a real-life Pretty Woman story?), then there's the allegations against Podemos founders Íñigo Errejón and Juan Carlos Monedero. None of it sounds good for the feminist-leaning coalition government. The other day was Women's Day here in Spain (and internationally) and I wanted to talk about that as well: Spanish feminism is divided over prostitution and the trans issue.More on the web: https://expatmadrid.com/sex-scandals/Donate to the cause here: https://expatmadrid.com/donate/
