It's Thursday, March 13th, 2025. This is Nelson John, let's get started. 1. Saudi's Riyadh Air Eyes India for Expansion Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia's new airline, sees India as a key market, with CEO Tony Douglas calling it “super important.” Set to begin operations this year, the airline is in early talks with Air India and IndiGo for potential partnerships. Riyadh Air plans to connect Saudi Arabia to over 100 destinations by 2030 and has already partnered with Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta. With a fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Airbus A321 neos, the airline is tapping into India's booming aviation market, where Indians form the second-largest expat group in Saudi Arabia. Notably, 16% of Riyadh Air's staff are Indian. 2. Estée Lauder, DPIIT to Boost India's Beauty Startups India's beauty and personal care startups are set for a major push as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) partners with US cosmetics giant Estée Lauder. Through its BEAUTY&YOU India initiative, the collaboration will offer funding, mentorship, and global industry access, with a special focus on women-led startups. India's beauty market is expected to grow from $7.43 billion in 2025 to $9.69 billion by 2034. “This is a first-of-its-kind initiative,” said Sanjiv, Joint Secretary, DPIIT. With India boasting the world's third-largest startup ecosystem, this partnership could drive innovation and scaling opportunities for beauty entrepreneurs. 3. India's IT Stocks Plunge Amid Growth Concerns India's top IT firms—TCS, Infosys, HCL Tech, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra—saw their stocks fall up to 4.28%, erasing ₹75,414 crore in market value. Brokerages Morgan Stanley, Kotak Institutional Equities, and Motilal Oswal flagged concerns over sluggish IT spending recovery in FY26-27. High interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and vendor consolidation are slowing discretionary tech spending. “We see a transition phase where IT spending is reprioritized, moderating growth,” noted Morgan Stanley analysts. Despite these headwinds, Nasscom projects the IT industry to cross $300 billion by March 2026, implying 6.2% annual growth, though analysts remain skeptical. 4. Gold's Surge Raises India's Sovereign Gold Bond Liabilities As gold prices soar and equities struggle, the Indian government faces rising liabilities on its Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) scheme, which ties payouts to gold's market price. Gold has outperformed equities since 2015, rising 3.46 times its value, while Nifty 50 has declined. ₹2.39 trillion has already been paid under gold-related schemes since 2017, with another ₹1.4 trillion budgeted for 2024-26. With 132,000 kg of gold equivalent set for payout between 2025 and 2032, a prolonged gold rally could strain government finances, making this a key issue for policymakers and investors. 5. Wendy's, Rebel Foods to Open 500 Locations in India by 2028 Rebel Foods will invest ₹100-150 crore to expand Wendy's footprint in India, targeting 500 locations by 2028. The expansion leans heavily on cloud kitchens, which will account for 70% of new openings. Currently, Wendy's operates in 200 locations, with 185 cloud kitchens and 15 offline stores. India's quick-service restaurant (QSR) market is growing at a 23% CAGR, but profitability remains challenging due to inflation and competition. Rebel Foods CEO Ankush Grover expects the IPL season to boost sales. Rebel Foods, which runs over 450 cloud kitchens across India, the Middle East, and the UK, recently raised $210 million from Temasek to fuel expansion.

The hippies and intellectual class have always believed they and they alone can perfect humanity, something only God can do and only in the New Earth. The hippies were going to do it through “free love”, gender-equality, racial-equality and pot smoking. The intellectuals were going to do it with a “new” enlightenment. Now, the intellectual-class intends to do it with compliance implants in our bodies and the former hippie-class with violent punishment for thought crimes. Many of the hippies who preached gender-equality are in the streets beating women for saying they are women; many of the intellectuals are in the government or academia teaching young people women don't exist. So what happened?Big Pharma happened. A Ph.D named Toby Rogers, who writes about iatro-genocide (read: “relating to illness caused by medical examination or treatment), makes a brilliant observation I will sum up this way: pharma has killed the hippie-ethos and the intellectual class, please read the entire piece. “I struggle to find words to describe this:Suddenly, in 2020, some of the smartest people in the world -- James Surowiecki, Naomi Klein, Aaron Sorkin, Noam Chomsky, Slavoj Žižek, and so many more -- stopped being smart. The test was simple -- apply all of your smart social, economic, & political theories to Covid & vaccines. That task is not difficult -- spend a few hours reading widely and apply a lifetime of sophisticated critical theory to our present conjuncture.”. . . Big Pharma--Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson--owns the media and much of government. They have used their ownership to break minds--like the Nashville murderer's mind was broken. They have paid to teach people reality isn't real and perfection comes from pills and implants. As they break minds, Big Pharma claims that they are fixing minds (1/6th of all Americans are ingesting their psychotropics, on this trajectory a majority of people under eighteen will be addicted to a pharmaceutical as adults). What does God say? We are to seek holiness, to seek to be more like Jesus, but we cannot reach perfection prior to the New Earth.Philippians 3:12-15 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Nashville police confirm today's shooter identifier as a transgender. As Ukraine closed its airspace for civilian flights after Russia began it invasion, about 16,000-strong Indian diaspora, mostly students, were left stranded in the war-torn country. As students made appeals for evacuation from bomb shelters, New Delhi launched a multi-pronged evacuation plan named ‘Operation Ganga' to bring home its citizens. Accordingly, Indian missions in Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary have been making arrangements to receive Indian nationals from Ukraine and fly them out of their respective countries under Operation Ganga flights. The cost will be borne by the Centre. The cost of operating a two-way evacuation flight is reportedly more than Rs 1.10 crore. The amount is likely to go up depending on the duration of the flights. 24x7 Control Centres have been set up under the mission to assist in the evacuation of Indian nationals through Ukraine's border crossing points with the four countries. The government announced that four Union Ministers will travel to Ukraine's neighbouring countries to coordinate the evacuation. Petroleum minister Hardeep Puri would go to Hungary, aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to Romania and Moldova; law minister Kiran Rijiju to Slovakia and Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh to Poland. The government also created a dedicated Twitter account named OpGanga Helpline to assist in the evacuation by sharing important advisories and instructions. The Union Health Ministry has revised the mandatory international travel guidelines for all Indians being evacuated from Ukraine, allowing them to board flights without a negative RT-PCR report or vaccination certificate. The travel guidelines have been revised on humanitarian grounds. Till Monday, Tata Group's Air India reportedly evacuated 1,396 Indian nationals in six evacuation flights that were chartered by the government. The airline used Boeing 787 Dreamliners for the services. The first flight under Operation Ganga brought home 219 Indians from Romania's capital Bucharest to Mumbai on Saturday evening. Other flights carried up to 250 Indians each from Bucharest as well as Hungary's Budapest back to India. Operation Ganga gained speed after SpiceJet, Air India Express and IndiGo joined the mission operating special flights to Bucharest and Budapest from Monday. Indians who have been able to flee Ukraine and enter its bordering countries have been leaving on the evacuation flights. IndiGo operated the flights using its Airbus A321 aircraft, whereas SpiceJet deployed Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes.
Foreign secretary Liz Truss flew by private jet to Australia at a cost of over half-a-million pounds to the taxpayer, rather than using scheduled flights that would have been faster and far cheaper. Instead of travelling from London to Sydney on one of the daily Qantas departures, Ms Truss flew the 22,000 miles to, from and within Australia aboard the private government Airbus A321. The Ministerial Code makes clear that only the foreign secretary could authorise such a flight. In this episode, I talk about what Truss did, how I uncovered it and who's picking up the tab. (Clue, it's us taxpayers.)Of course this podcast is completely free, as is my weekly travel email. You can sign up at independent.co.uk/newsletters.

In order to continue strengthen Hong Kong’s position as Asia’s leading international aviation hub; the group’s existing aircraft order is comprised of 21 Boeing 777-9 aircrafts, 12 A350s and 32 A321neo aircrafts between 2020 and 2024, the group has decided upon the following fleet allocation after a comprehensive review. Cathay Pacific will continue to operate as an international full-service airline providing premium services to customers while Cathay Dragon is our regional full-service carrier. Meanwhile, HK Express will remain as a standalone, low-cost airline focusing on serving leisure travel destinations. AHK Air Hong Kong will continue to be the Group’s all-cargo carrier specialising in express cargo services. “We will continue to invest in each of our airlines, their products and services. New aircraft are always the best platform to showcase our customer experience offerings which we are continuously enhancing in the spirit of our progressive and thoughtful ‘Move Beyond’ brand values. Our goal is always to move people forward in life through our ability to connect them to meaningful people, places and experiences through our Hong Kong hub.” Cathay Pacific Group Chief Executive Officer Augustus Tang The Chinese market currently makes up around 20% of Cathay Pacific’s daily flights, however, the airline is facing negative exposure in China following criticism from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, resulting the airlines earning of HK$1.34 billion in the first half of year 2019. HK express currently operates 13 routes to Japan, marks up half of its total destinations, recent meetings between executives at HK Express and Japanese official and business in both Hong Kong & Japan signals the airline group will double its effort for Japanese expansion to offset its negative exposure from China.
