"Running is running is running, and I love it all." Courtney Dauwalter returns to the Ali on the Run Show — this time as a 2:49 marathoner! Courtney is an ultra runner who is best known for her GOAT-status success on the trails. In 2023, she became the first person to win Western States, the Hardrock 100, and UTMB int he same year. Earlier this year, she won Hardrock in a women's course record: 26 hours 11 minutes and 49 seconds. Most recently, Courtney's been hitting the roads! She just completed the Twin Cities Marathon — her first marathon in more than a decade — in 2:49. But it's not about the time on the clock for Courtney. Here's a question that'll make your head spin: How do you train MLM recruits who have zero sales experience to actually sell instead of just posting on social media and hoping for the best? That's the question Andrew Osborne from Pittsburgh brought to me. Andrew works in direct selling and network marketing, specifically health and wellness nutrition supplements. Like most MLM leaders, he's frustrated watching new recruits default to the guru-approved strategy of posting on Instagram and waiting for the magic to happen. Spoiler alert: The magic never happens. If you're nodding your head right now, you're not alone. The "social media is the new cold calling" myth is one of the most damaging lies being sold to new direct sales representatives today, and it's costing MLM organizations their best potential talent. The Social Media Trap: When Easy Becomes Impossible Remember that story in Fanatical Prospecting where I went head-to-head with someone who swore their social media guru had all the answers? I said, "Great, you do yours for a week, I'll do mine for a week, and we'll test it out." Guess who won? Here's the brutal truth: Posting on social media feels easy because it lets you keep people at arm's length. You don't have to face rejection. You don't have to interrupt strangers. You don't have to have uncomfortable conversations. But here's what actually happens. After two months of posting videos that get one view each and zero sales, your recruits quit. They're demoralized, broke, and convinced MLM doesn't work. The real problem? They were never taught how to actually sell. Why MLM Sales Training Is Harder Than You Think When Andrew recruits someone into his network marketing organization, they're making two types of sales: selling the product and recruiting new team members. Most of these people have never sold anything in their lives. They came from every background imaginable except sales. Something happened in their life that made them say, "I want more." That motivation is critical, but motivation without skill is just frustration wrapped in hope. The things they need to do are really hard. Nothing in their life has prepared them for what sales prospecting actually requires. They have to sacrifice what they want now (ease and comfort) for what they want most (their goals). That's why the first question I ask every new recruit is this: What are your top five goals in the next twelve months? Not company goals. Not team goals. Their goals. Because if they don't want something bad enough to go through the pain of rejection, nothing else matters. The Only Formula That Actually Works In MLM, there's one simple formula that works every single time: Go talk with people. The more people you talk with, the more you recruit. The more product you sell. It's that simple. Think about it this way. If you had a marketing strategy that could create all your product sales and recruiting automatically, you wouldn't need an MLM. You'd just have an e-commerce business. The reason network marketing exists is because a network of people can spread the word and sell better than online ads. But here's the problem. Talking with people means getting past your discomfort. It means interrupting a stranger in line at Walmart. It means seeing someone at church who mentions financial problems and saying, "Hey, what if I had a way to help you out?" Most people would rather post on TikTok than have that conversation. What to Teach Your MLM Team If I'm building an MLM sales training program for recruits, here's exactly what I'm teaching them, in this order: First, teach them how to open conversations. Not pitches. Conversations. With strangers and with people they know. What's the first question they ask? How do they approach someone in line at Walmart? How do they bring up their network marketing business with friends without being weird? Run drills on this. Practice it until it becomes muscle memory.

Welcome back to School Counseling Simplified. Since October is Bullying Prevention Month, this episode focuses on practical conflict resolution strategies you can use at the schoolwide, classroom, and small group levels. If you have not listened to last week's episode on restorative circles, start there for helpful background on resolution circles and community-based approaches. Today we build on that foundation with tangible tools you can use right away to help students resolve, forgive, and repair relationships. What you will learn in this episode How to use classroom-based activities to teach conflict resolution skills A simple script for I statements that students can use to express feelings and seek solutions Engagement strategies for role play, discussion, and practice Small group activities and curricula that support peer problem solving Steps to take when a student is referred to you after a conflict Classroom strategies  Talk it out circle Use a classroom circle where two students resolve a conflict in front of their peers while the teacher or counselor facilitates a respectful discussion. This model teaches the whole class how to listen, reflect, and offer support. Counselor push-ins Join the classroom for a lesson or mediation session, while the teacher and student exit the classroom to resolve a conflict. I statement lessons Teach a simple I statement script: name the emotion, describe the incident, explain how it made you feel, and suggest a next step toward resolution. Use dry erase boards with fill-in-the-blank templates for practice. Post I statement language on classroom walls and in common areas so students have visible reminders. Role play and scenario practice Break students into small groups and use scenario cards to role play common friendship conflicts. Incorporate charades, fishbowl exercises, or paired practice to make skills stick. Small group ideas Run a conflict resolution group using discussion dice or conversation cards to guide reflection. Include hands-on activities or crafts that reinforce communication skills and empathy. Consider curricula like Kelso's Choices to teach problem-solving options for peer conflicts. When students are referred after a conflict Start by identifying the source of the conflict. Ask why this keeps happening and what the underlying triggers are. Take time to get a full picture before deciding on a plan so you do not cycle through the same issues repeatedly. Use data from observations, teacher input, and student self-report to refine your intervention. Action steps you can take today Teach and practice one I statement template with a class. Try a short talk it out circle during your next classroom visit. Radical Engagement: How to Work With, Not Against, Broken Systems   Radical Engagement: 7 Everyday Habits for Transforming Systems   We blame “the system,” but systems are just elements + relationships + results. If that's true, then changing a system means changing how we relate and respond—daily. Adam Kahane, author of Everyday Habits for Transforming Systems, shares seven habits that let ordinary people move complex issues forward—at work, in community, and at home.   Key Points: Radical Engagement (the umbrella). Engage with the system—alert, curious, relational—rather than lecturing at it. Reflect: Where am I “arms-crossed”? What would leaning forward look like this week? Relate in Three Dimensions. Look for What's Unseen (and unheard). We discover blind spots by listening to people in other positions in the system. Reflect: Who sees what I can't? Who's the one person I should interview this week? Work with the Cracks. Systems aren't smooth; they're full of fissures where change can start. Reflect: Where's one small opening I can ring “the bell that still can ring”? Experiment a Way Forward. Run small, safe-to-try tests instead of debating perfect plans. Reflect: What's a 2-week experiment I can launch with current resources? Collaborate with Unlike Others. We don't need identical values to work together; cities function because strangers cooperate daily. Reflect: Which “unlike other” is essential to my goal—and how can I invite them in? Persevere—and Rest. System shifts take years; pace yourself so you can stay in the game. Reflect: What boundary or rhythm would keep me sustainably engaged?   Money Learning: Profit follows structure and structure follows relationships. Your market, team, vendors, and regulators are the system. Profitable change happens when you: map incentives (party dimension), humanize conflict (kin), and design experiments that prove value quickly (actors).   Key Takeaway: Don't wait for perfect alignment or a perfect leader. Chris DiCroce is a Philadelphia-born singer-songwriter and author spent 25 years on the Nashville scene. After writing and producing two critically acclaimed albums, Brand New Fool and american dream; one EP, Songs From Before, and several national and international tours, including Farm Aid, dates with Robert Plant, and the Samples DiCroce wanted a break and time away from the business. In 2012, he sold his house and everything in it and moved onto his sailboat.
