Welcome back to our REWIND series! Christi and Kelly are going back through the archive, re-editing, and re-uploading our old episodes — in order, from the very beginning of Dance Moms. This week, they're revisiting season 1, episode 4 (“Stealing the Show”), an episode that still feels heavy because it brings them right back to one of the first times the show stopped feeling fun.At the center of the episode is Paige. Kelly remembers watching the week unfold knowing her daughter was being pushed toward a solo she wasn't prepared for, without the music she needed, while everyone else kept acting like the moms were just being dramatic. Christi was feeling it too, watching Chloe get handed new choreography while Maddie walked in with two solos and far more preparation. What aired as jealousy was, to them, really a slow-motion disaster they could see coming before the kids ever stepped on stage.Christi and Kelly also revisit the other chaos surrounding the week: Kathy refusing to ride the bus, Vivi getting stuck with the Bumblebee solo, Melissa working the front desk, Abby insisting the girls were ready, and the competition day tension that made everything feel worse. We originally aired this episode back in 2022, but it's been re-edited specifically for YouTube!Grab your tickets to our LIVE TOUR here: x1entertainment.com/bttb See you in 2026!!Welcome to Back to the Barre, the ultimate podcast channel where Kelly Hyland and Christi Lukasiak from Dance Moms spill the tea, share the laughs, and take you behind the scenes of your favorite reality TV moments!

Spoilers for Disclosure Day. Jason and Rachel review Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg's new alien movie starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Wyatt Russell. There are things to like here: Emily Blunt is great, Colman Domingo remains a human weighted blanket, and a few sequences feel like vintage Spielberg. But the movie's big alien reveal, TV station climax, confusing character logic, and “world peace / just listen” ending left us deeply frustrated. We talk Close Encounters comparisons, little green men, thumb drives, World War III, invisible fire trucks, AI-era skepticism, David Koepp, Spielberg nostalgia, and why Disclosure Day ends up as a disappointed thumbs down. Text us here! Hersh, what a privilege to have you here.. if you still are after 6 years. Can you believe that we have been recording this show for 6 years. What a ton of fun we have had and we really did have a serious discussion about how to land the plane, so to speak. You will have to listen to see what we came up with. Some of the show ending discussions could have been due to the fact that our very own Deacon shared how a routine sales encounter led him to being essentially a TV star, you might say... talk about a whole nuther (big way of saying another) level of success. I hope you enjoy the episode... there are several other topics we discussed that I cannot recall but I know they were important... Seth is finally home after three consecutive work trips, and Rebecca is ready to share what it's really like holding down the fort during one of the busiest parenting seasons of the year. Between graduations, football tournaments, prom pictures, theater outings, and everyday parenting challenges, this episode is an honest look at marriage, partnership, and learning to support each other's growth even when it's hard.In this Whinypaluza Wednesday episode, Rebecca and Seth Greene discuss the realities of balancing work travel and family life during the chaos of end-of-school-year activities.Rebecca shares how different it feels when Seth travels now compared to when the children were younger, the emotional load of parenting while solo, and the lessons she's learned about asking for help, lowering expectations, and giving herself grace. The conversation explores how marriage evolves over time, why keeping score hurts relationships, and how focusing on the benefits of your partner's growth can create a healthier mindset. From reality TV guilty pleasures and easier dinners to parenting emergencies that never seem to wait for a convenient moment, this episode is a relatable reminder that partnership isn't about doing the exact same amount. It's about appreciating what each person brings to the family and supporting one another through every season.Key Takeaways1. Stop Keeping ScoreStrong marriages are built on appreciation, not competition. Comparing sacrifices rarely strengthens a relationship.2. Support What Helps Your Partner GrowWhen your spouse is energized, learning, and growing, the benefits often extend to the entire family.3. Give Yourself Permission to SimplifyBusy seasons call for flexibility. Sometimes that means takeout, less laundry, and a little more grace.4. Accept Help Without GuiltYou do not have to carry everything alone. Allowing others to help can make challenging seasons more manageable.5. Focus on the PositiveShifting your mindset from resentment to appreciation can completely change how you experience difficult situations. If this episode resonated with you, share it with a spouse, partner, or parent who understands the challenge of balancing family life and career demands.Be sure to subscribe, leave a review, and join the Whinypaluza Mom Facebook Group for support, encouragement, and connection with other parents navigating the beautiful chaos of family life.
— In this episode, we explore what it means to truly live in connection with the Divine and awaken the wisdom of the intuitive self. Together, we dive into the beauty of inner guidance, spiritual presence, and the subtle ways life invites us into deeper trust, healing, and alignment. This conversation is an invitation to slow down, listen inwardly, and rediscover the sacred intelligence that exists within us all — reminding us that empowerment often begins the moment we become still enough to hear our soul speak. Valeria interviews Beth Wilson — She is the best-selling author of several books including "Escaping Crazytown, The Recovering Feminist, He's Just No Good for You and Meditations for New Mothers." Beth Wilson is an intuitive guide, energy healer, best-selling author and Biomagnetism practitioner. Her work is spirit-driven and deeply personal, offering support, guidance and healing for those navigating transformational shifts, emotional blocks, or a desire to align more fully with soul expression. She began her career in the U.S. Congress, eventually moving into publishing. Her first book, Meditations for New Mothers, was a runaway international best-seller. Beth published four additional parenting books to great success. During media tours, radio, television and speaking, she enjoyed connecting with others, giving voice to the anxieties, joys and challenges of parenthood. Determined to present cutting-edge ideas to a broad audience, she launched Quantum Leaps. The podcast went to #1 in six weeks. Beth then hosted a Bay Area television show, In the Sisterhood, offering a new voice for women. She also appeared as a regular guest on ABC's View from the Bay, writing segments to provide guidance and advice based on her books. To build on her success, Beth wrote and produced a wryly absurd comedy news show for women, The Feminine Front. Her media talents caught the attention of Hollywood. She was offered a national TV show featuring her warm guidance and humor alongside her psychic medium talents. Diagnosed with Lyme, she was forced to turn it down. Determined not to allow the disease to derail her, Beth found Biomagnetism. This wellness modality returned her to health. Beth trained extensively with Dr. Goiz to become a skilled Biomagnetism practitioner. Currently, she has a thriving international practice that incorporates a variety of energy medicine systems alongside her intuitive talents. Within traditional educational and parenting paradigms, behaviorist strategies such as token economies, behavior color charts, and positive reinforcement models are frequently treated as standard mechanisms for human development. However, these compliance-driven metrics often collapse under long-term evaluation, obscuring the critical psychological friction they introduce. Alfie Kohn, a prominent educational theorist and author of Punished by Rewards, joins the program to systematically critique the reliance on traditional behavioral modification systems, including school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS). Emily and Alfie break down the critical neurodivergent intersections of these models, explore the hidden psychological cost of praise, and discuss ways of shifting focus away from surface-level behavior modification and toward the collaborative cultivation of student-led problem-solving. TAKEAWAYS Behaviorist interventions like rewards and punishments function as temporary methods of external control rather than sustainable catalysts for authentic development. Extrinsic rewards actively diminish intrinsic motivation by shifting focus away from the task itself and toward the acquisition of the reward. Conditional rewards and continuous verbal praise implicitly communicates that fundamental human worth is tethered to performance and utility. Applied behavioral modification techniques often target observable surface actions while systematically ignoring the underlying physical, emotional, and sensory needs driving those behaviors. Cultivating a child's authentic self-regulation requires shifting from unilateral adult control to active, collaborative decision-making processes. Check out our continuing education courses for educators through our online platform, the Neurodiversity University! Find them here and here. Alfie Kohn is a prominent author, lecturer, and progressive education advocate whose work challenges traditional frameworks in schooling, parenting, and human behavior. He holds a bachelor's degree from Brown University and a master's degree from the University of Chicago. He has authored 14 books, including seminal titles such as Punished by Rewards, The Schools Our Children Deserve, Unconditional Parenting, and The Myth of the Spoiled Child. Described by Time magazine as perhaps the country's most outspoken critic of education's fixation on grades and test scores, Kohn's insights have significantly shaped the practices of educators, parents, and managers worldwide. His work has been profiled in major publications like the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, and he has been featured on hundreds of TV and radio programs, including The Today Show and two appearances on Oprah. Based in the Boston area, Kohn lectures extensively at universities, national education conferences, and parent organizations while maintaining his comprehensive digital archive at alfiekohn.org. In this episode of Travis Makes Money, Travis and producer Eric dive into a timely discussion about leadership, public perception, and the way we judge people based on past decisions. Using the controversy surrounding reality TV star and mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt as a jumping-off point, they explore whether personal financial mistakes, media narratives, and decades-old decisions should influence how we evaluate someone's ability to lead. The conversation touches on accountability, political messaging, media influence, and the importance of looking beyond surface-level headlines. On this episode we talk about: Whether personal financial decisions predict leadership ability The difference between managing personal money and public budgets How media narratives shape public opinion during elections Why people shouldn't be permanently judged by mistakes they made in their early twenties Critical thinking when evaluating political candidates and public figures Top 3 Takeaways Personal mistakes don't always predict future performance. People can learn, grow, and develop expertise from the very failures that once defined them. Correlation isn't causation. Spending personal money irresponsibly at age twenty-two isn't necessarily evidence that someone can't effectively manage an organization or public institution later in life. Media narratives often oversimplify complex issues. It's important to evaluate claims, data, and political talking points critically rather than accepting headlines at face value. Notable Quotes "I don't think anybody wants people judging us for the decisions we made when we were twenty-two." "A lot of times that inception point can be the thing that made them go fix it and learn how to manage money better." "The opportunities come from the relationships. Opportunities are given by people." June 17, 2026 Hour 2. Will the Vrabel story continue into the NFL season, both Miller and Moulton say no. Root Beer, underrated! Kyle Sielaff, TV voice of Marlins, joins the show.
Ted's an ex-Marine. I guess once a Marine, always a Marine. Right? You know — halls of Montezuma, shores of Tripoli, and semper fi. Since his days in the Corps, Ted's gone on to become very successful in business, but he keeps getting invited back to talk to Marine recruits as an inspirational speaker. And in the process, he tells them about a rescuer who came for him in the Marines and saved him — Jesus Christ. And I love what he tells them — “One thing about Marines — we always go back for our own, and that's why I'm here today. I'm going back for my own.” I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about “Leaving No One Behind.” Those Marines really listen to Ted, because he's one of their own. That's sort of a law of life, isn't it? We tend to listen to our own kind; maybe when we would listen to no one else. Especially when it comes to the rescuer that my friend tells the Marines about. More and more, people aren't going to listen to some “Christian professional” tell them about Jesus. No, even though their lives depend on understanding Jesus. They're not likely to go to one of those meetings that we have. It's probably going to have to be one of their own…like you. Jesus understood that approach to rescuing spiritually dying people. He used that approach Himself in our word for today from the Word of God. Here's the deal: Jesus has gone into Samaria to reach the Samaritans, and since the Jews and Samaritans basically couldn't stand each other, how is this Jewish rabbi going to reach them? He's going to send one of their own to go back and get her own — even though she is probably known for her immorality, her relationships with many men, her string of marriages and divorces. First, she meets Jesus at a well where she discovers who He really is. Then in John 4, beginning with verse 28, the Bible says, “Leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?' They came out of the town and made their way toward Him…Many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the woman's testimony…” Well, they listened to her when she talked about Jesus because she was one of their own. That's what makes you so eternally important to your coworkers, your fellow students, your neighbors, your teammates — you're one of them. They'll be more likely to listen to you talking about a personal relationship with Jesus than to any preacher or evangelist or radio or TV guy. Well, you may say, “but I'm not trained…I've got a lot of problems…I don't know enough.” Excuse me, but have you thought about the one Jesus sent as His ambassador to the Samaritans? See, what qualifies you is two things: you've met Jesus, and you're one of them. He's placed you where you are not just to get grades or get paid or get comfy. He's put you there to take some of those people to heaven with you! So, how are you doing? The best one to reach a lost farmer is another farmer…the best one to reach a lost mom is another mom. a lost teacher, a teacher. How about a lost businessman? It will take a businessman, and so on. But so many people die without ever knowing what Jesus could have done for them. They die without a chance at heaven — because the Christian close to them never told what they knew. That's a death sentence by silence. You don't have to tell them about Christianity, about church, about your religion or a list of Christian beliefs. Just do what the Samaritan woman did — stick to Jesus. She just said, “Come, see a Man!” But don't take them to a well — take them to the Cross and show them how much Jesus loves them. Their best hope is you, because you are already there. Of all the New Year's resolutions you could make, could there be a better one than to say, “I will finally tell the lost people in my world about my Jesus.” You're in their world. You're their spiritual “Marine.” Go back for your own, and don't leave any of them behind.
Quick question. What's the voice you hear describing what's happening on screen during a movie or a TV show for blind and low vision viewers? That's audio description. And somebody has to record it for every show, every movie, every piece of streaming content, every educational video on every major platform. Every single one. That is an enormous amount of work. And most voice actors have no idea how to get it. What Audio Description Actually Is AD is narration inserted into the natural pauses in a piece of video content, like dialogue, music, and sound effects, that describes what's happening visually. Character movements, facial expressions, scene changes, text on screen, important visual information that a viewer would otherwise miss if they can't see the picture. The narration is written in the present tense. It's delivered neutrally. The AD narrator describes. They don't editorialize. They are giving information logically but not characterizing it. And it has to fit precisely within the gaps in the existing audio, which means pacing is really important. The scripts are timed to the millisecond. The narrator has to hit very specific durations, sometimes very short ones, while still conveying the information clearly and in a warm, accessible way. It's a skill. It is a very highly sought after skill. It's in demand across every streaming platform. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Disney, Amazon, Apple, HBO. As well as broadcast, educational content, corporate video, and more. Accessibility compliance requirements mean this market is not shrinking. It is growing. Why Aren't More Voice Actors Pursuing It Part of it is visibility. AD narration doesn't usually get a credit in the traditional sense. It's not the kind of booking you post about on social media. The narrator is heard, not seen, and the whole point is that the narration blends seamlessly into the viewing experience. Part of it is that the scripts look really intimidating the first time you see them. They're formatted differently from any standard voiceover script. There are time codes and pacing notes and flagged lines with very tight windows to hit. It feels very technical in a way that commercial or corporate work doesn't. And part of it is there isn't a clear how do I get in path that gets talked about the way commercial or gaming or e-learning does. But here's the thing. The opacity is an opportunity. The barrier isn't talent. It's knowledge. Voice actors who understand how AD works, who have trained for the specific demands of the format, and who have appropriate samples in their portfolio are rare. And the buyers in this space know that. The Actual Craft Audio description narration isn't just a neutral read. It has a specific warmth and accessibility to it. You're a guide. You're not a reporter. You're helping someone experience a piece of content, and that requires a quality of presence and care that is specific but also learnable. The pacing demands are unique. AD scripts use notations like brisk or very brisk. The gap between two lines of dialogue might be four seconds and you have to convey meaningful visual information in that space clearly without rushing in a way that loses the listener. You need to deliver every line as if it counts while also being flexible about what gets used. It's a different muscle than commercial or video game or narration work. But it's absolutely buildable. And the voice actors who invest in training for it are walking into a niche with very little competition and pretty steady work. How to Position Yourself for AD Work First, get familiar with the format. Watch content with audio description turned on. Netflix, Amazon, YouTube all have accessibility settings. Turn it on for a show you're already watching and listen to the pacing, listen to the tone, notice how the narration sits in the audio environment. This is your market research and it costs you nothing. Second, build a sample. You cannot pitch AD work with a standard narration demo. You need a sample that demonstrates you understand the format, ideally built from fictional content. The sample should show tight pacing, appropriate tone, and ideally a mix of slower and brisk paced lines. Third, identify the buyers. AD is produced by post-production companies and accessibility service providers, not usually directly by studios or streaming platforms. Researching and building a contact list, just like you would for any other vertical, is important to do. And then frame it in your marketing. If you have an AD sample, say it. Put it on your website. Mention it in outreach. Most voice actor websites don't have AD sections. Having one immediately signals that you're someone who has done the work to understand the work. Why This Niche Matters Beyond the Bookings It's not a glamorous vertical. But it is so meaningful. Audio description exists because people deserve to experience art and storytelling and information fully, just as anyone else. The voice actor doing AD work is genuinely contributing to accessibility, to children and adults alike, and that work has human stakes to it. The commercial reality is strong, consistent, and growing. There aren't enough trained narrators to fill the demand. And the personal reality is strong because it's interesting work that requires real craft and you get paid for that craft. The door is open. Most people just haven't knocked on it yet. Later, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell joins the show to discuss the successful security operation surrounding the World Cup, preparing for the Olympics amid staffing shortages and increased tourism, handling public threats and communications, the tragic officer-involved shooting of a dog in Canoga Park, body camera release policies, and the department's efforts to recruit and educate young people about careers in law enforcement.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Each minute after someone's heart stops is a countdown towards death — nine in 10 people die if they experience a cardiac arrest outside a hospital. Dave Ogle beat the odds. The Woodbury man's heart stopped seven years ago while he was at home watching TV. His wife Kris Patrow was able to perform CPR until paramedics arrived. And then he was rushed to one of the few hospitals in the world that was pioneering new techniques that could restore blood flow to his lifeless body. MPR News host Angela Davis talks with Ogle and Patrow about his recovery, and with a cardiologist about the importance of CPR and why Minnesota has some of the best cardiac arrest survival rates in the country.

Lara Love Hardin had the perfect cul-de-sac life: a million-dollar home, kids, the soccer-mom routine. What no one knew was that she and her husband were funding a heroin addiction by stealing their neighbors' credit cards. When the police finally knocked, she was charged with dozens of felonies and became inmate S32179. In this conversation, Lara takes us inside her descent into opioid addiction, what her time in county jail was like and the unlikely path that took her from a jail cell to ghostwriting New York Times bestsellers and an Oprah's Book Club pick for her own memoir, The Many Lives of Mama Love. We talk addiction, shame, the criminal justice system, second chances, and how she rebuilt a life most people thought was over. _____________________________________________ #addictionrecovery #TrueCrime #secondchances _____________________________________________ Connect with Lara Love Hardin: Website: https://www.laralovehardin.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laralovehardin/?hl=en Book: https://www.amazon.com/Many-Lives-Mama-Love-Stealing-ebook/dp/B0BPDNW33W/ref=books_amazonstores_desktop_mfs_author_smart_catalog_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=NMLe6&content-id=amzn1.sym.aec507cb-142c-4f68-9ae5-803b8e7b33f1&pf_rd_p=aec507cb-142c-4f68-9ae5-803b8e7b33f1&pf_rd_r=136-6178201-4449817&pd_rd_wg=GRZoL&pd_rd_r=3432d7e9-c686-4577-8237-d731c18fd71a _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 Introduction: Laura Love Harden's Story 00:30 Her Childhood and Upbringing 01:45 Escaping Through Books and Education 03:42 Family Secrets No One Talked About 06:07 Trying to Fit In During High School 07:00 College and a Fresh Start 08:48 Marriage, Motherhood & Quiet Struggles 09:54 The First Painkillers 11:02 The Hidden Pattern of Family Addiction 13:45 Fighting Pill Addiction—and Denial 16:26 Sobriety, Remarriage & New Beginnings 17:41 The Day She Found Out: Heroin Relapse 20:08 The Rapid Downfall Into Crime 22:15 What Daily Life as an Addict Was Really Like 24:50 How She Justified the Crimes 27:02 The Arrest That Broke the Family Apart 31:15 First Days in Jail 36:33 A Mental Health Crisis Behind Bars 41:03 The Legal System and Family Fallout 47:00 The Plea Deal & Gender Disparities in Sentencing 53:13 Motherhood, Shame & the Community's Reaction 01:00:02 Life After Jail: Rebuilding From Zero 01:11:20 Starting Over: A Career in Literary Agency 01:20:28 Facing Stigma & Earning Redemption 01:26:20 Advocacy and Supporting Incarcerated Women 01:33:01 Writing the Modern Memoir 01:38:18 Regrets, Lessons & Parenting Reflections 01:41:45 What's Next: Fiction and TV _____________________________________________ To advertise on the show, contact sales@advertisecast.com or visit https://advertising.libsyn.com/LockedInWithIanBicka Learn more about your ad choices. Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and three-time NAACP Image Award-winning television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Brendan Kaminsky. Founder of B Known Agency, a boutique branding and digital marketing firm specializing in sports and entertainment. Kaminsky shares his journey from consulting, to working at ESPN, to eventually launching his own agency. He discusses helping major personalities like Stephen A. Smith, Jalen Rose, Harrison Barnes, and Rich Eisen develop strong social media identities and storytelling strategies. Brendan explains why he left ESPN after six and a half years—despite the security, prestige, and Disney benefits—to pursue entrepreneurship. He describes how brand building has shifted from traditional media to a landscape where relatability, vertical video, audience engagement, and consistent content matter more than follower counts. He also talks about the pressure of managing public-facing work in real time, the importance of being accessible to high‑profile clients, the rising role of AI in content creation, and how social platforms have become core to modern marketing strategies. Additionally, Brendan shares specific examples of working with Jalen Rose on mixing sports commentary with community-focused storytelling and describes how Rich Eisen’s annual “Run Rich Run” 40‑yard dash evolved into a signature charitable brand moment. The interview closes with insights on relationship-building, authenticity, and visibility—reinforcing that in the digital era, it’s not just “who you know,” but who knows you. PURPOSE OF THE INTERVIEW 1. To highlight Brendan Kaminsky’s entrepreneurial journey McDonald explores how Kaminsky transitioned from a major corporation (ESPN) to founding a successful agency. 2. To educate listeners on the evolving world of branding and digital media Kaminsky explains how branding now depends on relatability, vertical video, and engagement over follower count. 3. To provide actionable guidance for entrepreneurs and creators The interview teaches how consistency, accessibility, and storytelling help build a recognizable digital brand. 4. To show how athletes and media personalities use content to expand influence Brendan walks through real client strategies—from Jalen Rose’s community work to Rich Eisen’s fundraising dash. 5. To explore the role of AI in modern marketing Kaminsky discusses how AI assists with analytics, research, and identifying viral content moments. KEY TAKEAWAYS 1. Relatability drives modern branding People connect with authenticity, not polished promotion. Talk to your audience, not at them. 2. Engagement matters more than follower count Algorithms reward content that resonates, regardless of how many people follow you. A creator with 10,000 followers can hit a million views. 3. Social media requires presence and accessibility High-profile clients expect responsiveness; being available is key to agency success. 4. Vertical video is the new standard Optimizing content for mobile consumption is essential—TV graphics no longer dictate how content is built. 5. AI is an asset, not a threat Kaminsky uses AI for virality scoring, caption suggestions, research, and identifying strong clips from long-form content. 6. Data tells the story Success can be clearly measured through views, engagement, and growth—unlike billboards or traditional media. 7. Use “hot topics” to highlight deeper work For clients like Jalen Rose, trending sports conversations help drive attention to community-focused initiatives like his leadership academy. 8. Brand moments can start from something small Rich Eisen’s 40-yard dash evolved into a signature charity event and content anchor. 9. Entrepreneurship requires trusting your gut He left ESPN without telling anyone beforehand to avoid discouragement—because he felt the pull to build his own vision. 10. Visibility creates opportunity In the digital era, it’s not just who you know—it’s who knows you. NOTABLE QUOTES On entrepreneurship “I trusted my gut… I didn’t tell one person I was leaving ESPN because I didn’t want anyone to make me doubt myself.” On branding “People want to relate to you. They want to get to know you.” “Talk directly to your audience.” On social metrics “It’s become a lot more about engagement and views than total follower number.” On accessibility “You could be the best at your job, but if a client can’t reach you, it doesn’t matter.” On visibility “It’s not about who you know—it’s about who knows you.” On AI “AI is absolutely an asset… it helps us with research, analytics, even virality scoring.” #SHMS #STRAW #BESTSteve Harvey Morning Show Online: http://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Odessa Jenkins built a professional women's tackle football league before anyone believed the market existed. On this episode of Dear FoundHer, host Lindsay Pinchuk talks with Odessa Jenkins, known as OJ, founder and CEO of the Women's National Football Conference. Her story carries a lesson female founders everywhere need to hear. You don't wait for permission to build something new. You describe your vision so clearly the right people see it before a single game is played. That's how OJ won over ten teams and two major sports brands while the league was still an idea on paper. This is the kind of conversation women in business rarely get to hear. OJ worked a full-time job while selling the league. She convinced her wife to leave a corporate career and build alongside her. Bootstrapping kept the lights on for five years and profit didn't arrive until year three. None of those details show up on a TV broadcast, yet every one of them shaped what the WNFC has become. Sixteen teams, 900 athletes, and a championship game airing live on ESPN2.Female founders will recognize themselves in OJ's honesty about startup funding, partnership marketing with brands like Adidas, and the unglamorous work behind a bold mission. Her message cuts through the noise. Ready isn't real. Ask for what you need. Stop choosing the hardest path when an easier one exists. If you're drawn to real founder stories with heart and grit, this episode will stay with you long after you press pause.Episode Breakdown:00:00 Female Founders Who Build Before the Blueprint Exists03:05 How Odessa Jenkins Started the WNFC08:26 Getting Adidas and Riddell to Back a League That Didn't Exist Yet11:13 Bootstrapping, Profit, and the Real Timeline14:43 How the Public Responded in Year One22:41 Fan Growth, Streaming Numbers, and National TV24:53 Flag Football, the Athlete Pipeline, and What's Coming27:55 Why the Timing Is Right for Women's Sports Right Now31:17 Championship Weekend at Ford Center34:28 Three Things Every Woman Starting a Business Needs to HearConnect with Odessa Jenkins:Follow OJ on InstagramFollow Women's National Football Conference on InstagramSubmit your most pressing business questions for our Q+A Substack on Thursday: https://form.jotform.com/260218655668062 Subscribe to The FoundHer Files Follow Dear FoundHer on Instagram Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. Can a TV show deepen your relationship with God? The Chosen has become one of the most influential Christian media projects in history, reaching nearly a billion viewers worldwide and bringing the stories of Jesus and his disciples to life for a new generation. But why has it resonated so deeply with so many people? Is it simply great storytelling, or is something more profound happening beneath the surface? In this episode of Truth Changes Everything, Dr. Jeff Myers sits down with psychologist and Biola University professor Dr. Liz Hall, contributor to Watching The Chosen: History, Faith, and Interpretation. Together, they explore the psychological and spiritual impact of The Chosen, why viewers often feel such a strong emotional connection to its characters, and how the series may help people experience a deeper sense of intimacy with God. Dr. Hall explains how The Chosen can shape the way viewers understand Jesus, faith, and themselves. At the same time, she addresses important questions about the potential risks of emotional engagement, the role of theology, and how Christians can benefit from the series while remaining grounded in the truth of Scripture. Whether you're a devoted fan of The Chosen, a skeptic, or simply curious about the intersection of psychology and faith, this conversation offers a fascinating look at how stories can shape the human heart and point us toward Christ. "Ben's PTSD manifested as his alcoholism and his self-destruction as the Spider. ‘I'm just going to go out there and get punched in the face voluntarily, and maybe I'll do some good at the same time.' "— Will FreelandBen Riley didn't become the Spider to save anyone. He did it for the rush, and Spider-Noir on Prime Video is honest enough to build a whole show on that confession. Marvel comics expert Will Freeland joins Matthew Fox to dig into the series: why it works better than either of them expected, how a World War I origin story reframes the cynicism of 1930s noir as something closer to undiagnosed shell shock, and what Nicolas Cage gets right once he settles into the role. They dig into the show's remarkable villain architecture, where almost no one is simply bad, the stealth Black Cat origin hiding inside Li Jun Li's Kat Hardy, and the choice to watch in black and white. What does it mean that Ben's final heroic act is sacrificing the cure he wanted for himself to save the man who has the woman he loves? And can someone who chose heroism for selfish reasons ever really choose it for the right ones?Full show notes and resources: Visit Our SiteConnect with Will Freeland: Twitch · Instagram**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Mike Schur is a TV writer and producer best known for creating Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Good Place. He also worked on The Office and played Mose, Dwight's delightfully odd cousin. Impressive credentials, of course—but most importantly to us, he's a massive baseball fan. That may even be underselling it. Mike joins Tim Kurkjian and Jeff to talk baseball, including the fact that both he and Tim were at Pedro Martínez's legendary 17-strikeout game against the Yankees. Was that the greatest pitching season ever? The three also dive into their shared love of storytelling and why the best baseball stories often stick with us as much as the games themselves. Is it any surprise that one of television's great writers appreciates a great story? Schur also praises the Brewers for their knack for pulling off incredible trades and shares his deep admiration for Shohei Ohtani, encouraging everyone to appreciate just how remarkable a player he is. And, of course, there's Mike's new book, Big Fan: Two Friends, 82,490 Miles, and the Wild, Wonderful Sports We Love, co-authored with sportswriter Joe Posnanski. Released in May 2026, the book explores fandom across sports, music, and beyond, celebrating the passion that brings people together. Pick up a copy online or wherever books are sold. One quick editorial note: this episode was recorded on June 10, just one day before Jeff and his wife, Emily, welcomed their son, Bodie, into the world. It's been 10 years since Jo Cox, the Labour MP for Batley and Spen, was murdered in broad daylight by a man who lived in her constituency, motivated by far-right extremism. That truly shocking event sparked a national conversation about the safety of our elected representatives, and the civility of our public discourse. During her lifetime, Jo's philosophy was that “we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us” – a philosophy which led to the establishment of the Jo Cox Foundation after her death. Their CEO Olivia Field joins presenter Nuala McGovern, along with Alice Lilly, senior researcher at the Institute for Government, to discuss the impact of Jo's death and the safety of female politicians now. Actor Geraldine James is renowned for a host of roles in theatre and on screen, from her TV debut in The Sweeney five decades ago to Jewel in the Crown, Band of Gold, This Town, The Cage and comedy sketch show Little Britain to name a few. Now she's making her Chichester theatre debut in the stage premiere of the 2015 film 45 years, alongside Gabriel Byrne. The couple are about to celebrate 45 years of marriage, when news arrives in a letter from Switzerland about a woman's body that's been discovered in a melting glacier, sending shockwaves through their marriage. A new BBC podcast asks whether women are always safe on swinging websites. Swingers, an investigation from journalist Catrin Nye, explores serious concerns within the swinging community and asks if abuse can exist behind the language of sexual freedom. Nuala speaks to Catrin Nye and Rachel Horman Brown KC, a lawyer whose practice focuses on domestic abuse. The number of bookshops on our high streets has now grown to the highest number since 2012, with some of the rise being attributed to specialist genre shops fuelled by the surge in popularity for fantasy - and 'romantasy' - fiction. We hear from Amanda Logan who opened Ritual Reads in the town of Whitchurch, Shropshire, last November and says about 75% of her customers are women.
