Biopunk før biopunk var cool “Where small things make big changes.” Det indre univers: Noocytternes stemmer “A mother should name her offspring, shouldn't she?” Jens: ⭐⭐⭐Anders: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shownotes Siden sidst Anders har læst og set: Chuck Tingle – Lucky Day Ian McEwan – What We Can Know : Smuk, næsten kirurgisk præcis clifi om erkendelse og klima. Ken Liu – All That We See or Seem: En cyberpunket sag i Doctorow-stilen.

There are big swings, and then there are huge swings. Writer Adam Rose and artist Magenta King go for the fences with Huge Detective, a genre mashup mystery where giants roam the Earth and wind up dead like any other sacks of meat. The series was recently collected in a pretty trade paperback from Titan Comics, and it immediately had us craving sequels and sidequels. Where's our Gyant/Bean romance? We're ready for it. We met Adam Rose earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, and bonded quickly over our love for the eighties cartoon series M.A.S.K. After a few minutes of chatting, we knew we wanted to get him on the show, and after a few months of wrangling our schedules, we finally made it happen. Unfortunately, we did not spend the entire time discussing how Matt Trakker is currently running through the panels of Joshua Williamson and Tom Reilly's G.I. Joe comic. Next time, next time. In this episode, we discuss Adam Rose's love for fantasy and detective fiction. And we force him to choose his preferred genre. Our conversation explores the massive sandbox they've created in Huge Detective and the numerous other genres they could possibly explore in future comics. We make our case for romance. We consider Dollsville, too. Huge Detective issues one through five are now available in trade paperback from Titan Comics. They're written by Adam Rose, illustrated by Magenta King, colored by King and Minimone, and lettered by DC Hopkins. To continue this conversation, follow Adam Rose on Blue Sky and Instagram. In this episode, we welcome Melanie Kohnen, an Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Media Studies for Lewis & Clark College, and Billy Austin Tringali, an Instruction Librarian at the Indiana University Indianapolis and the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Anime and Manga Studies (JAMS), to discuss the culture and function of pop-culture conventions (“cons”). Melanie shares her research on the encroaching influence of media companies on spaces such as San Diego Comic-Con, especially as they literally extend their promotions to outside of the convention center. Meanwhile, Billy speaks about his work running the annual JAMS@AX Symposium at Anime Expo and his own research regarding animanga content. This conversation examines the intersection of academia and non-academic spaces, like fan events, and how media businesses build relationships with their audiences. Melanie and Billy explore how both academics and con-goers can experience conventions as fans and build a sense of community at these pop-culture events. They offer various modes of experiencing conventions and ways of accessing fans as part of larger promotional content. From Japan to the US, Billy and Melanie show us that conventions are places of scholarly work, fun, and play!   Here are some of the references from this episode, for those who want to dig a little deeper:Academic Readings, Journals, and Resources:Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism“The experience economy of TV promotion at San Diego Comic-Con”“From Comic-Con to Amazon: Fan conventions and digital platforms”Journal of Anime and Manga Studies (JAMS)JAMS@AXMechademiaAnime and Manga StudiesSwarming SDCCManga in LibrariesAnime Con search website [link]Henry's “Performing Our Collective Dreams: The Many Worlds of San Diego Comic-Con”Henry's Frames of Fandom book seriesPeople and Places:Dr. Suzanne ScottJillian RudesMaria BonnFrenchy LunningMaria K. We dig into the complicated licensing history with Hero Games, the disputes over tone and pinup art that led to revoked rights and renamed characters (Marksman → Huntsman, Foxbat → Flying Fox), and the 1988 ruling confirming Marvel had abandoned the Champions trademark. However, in just five years, Katy O'Brian scored roles in three of the biggest franchises of all time — Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Mission: Impossible. Yet another jaw-dropping and very well earned acting feat? Just a few months after Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning hit theaters, O'Brian had not one, not two, not three, but four major releases debut — Queens of the Dead, Christy, Maintenance Required, and now Edgar Wright's adaptation of Stephen King's The Running Man.O'Brian plays Jenni Laughlin in the film, one of three people selected to participate in The Network's most popular and most dangerous game show, The Running Man. The risk is high, but so is the reward. If Laughlin, Glen Powell's Ben Richards, or Martin Herlihy's Jansky manage to evade McCone (Lee Pace) and The Hunters for 30 days, they win a whopping billion New Dollar reward. The odds of that happening? Mighty slim given no one's ever won The Running Man, but producer Dan Killian (Josh Brolin) ensures their pursuit of that jackpot has sky-high entertainment value every single step of the way, even if it means putting the contestants' lives at greater risk or manipulating his audience. With The Running Man now playing in theaters nationwide, O'Brian returns to Collider Ladies Night after first making an appearance on the “Pre-Party” edition of the show for the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and then being part of the first-ever live Ladies Night at San Diego Comic Con in celebration of Twisters. This time around, not only does O'Brian break down her experience playing “chaos personified” in The Running Man, but she also looks back on the last five years and reveals which projects opened new doors, and which ones didn't boost her star in this industry as much as you might expect. In honor of 420, its time to look at some of the weirdest, and wackiest toys ever designed. You really have to wonder, what were they on when coming up with some of this stuff. From poorly thought out labels to accidental nightmare fuel, child endangerment and even a pre-cursor to Siri - combined with, water? Then it's another edition of The Team from the wonderful world of TMNT - but ONLY the Turtle variants. And the choices are not as simple as you might think!
