In this week's ep, we have Part 2 of our conversation with Amy Pearson of @sunmotheramy. This chat focuses on neurodiversity - on Amy's experience raising a child who is neurodivergent and how that journey impacted her understanding and learning of her own ADHD. We chose to split this interview into two parts because Amy speaks openly and honestly on the experience of having a highly sensitive baby, and we hope this ep reaches anyone who is navigating a similar experience. From another mama with a sensitive baby who cried non-stop in a dark room, it can be an isolating and overwhelming time where your only focus is trying to improve things for this tiny person and get through each night. We see you, you're doing wonderful things, and we hope Amy's beautiful words reach you. “The dream work is helping to clear energetic resistance.” –Amy PearsonDo you remember your dreams? We're talking about how to remember them and what to do with them. Amy Pearson, a master coach and dream analyst, shows us how dreams can help clear resistance and help us move forward.Sometimes we have to stop doing the obvious step to get ahead and try tapping into modalities that unlock more, like dream work. What happens to your goals when you really start to look at your dreams? What happens when you slow down and find ways to hear your intuition? It can be helpful to get support in analyzing or understanding your dreams, but Amy talks about ways you can get at meaning from your dreams on your own, too.We talk about: why dream work is so importanthow to actually remember your dreamshow to make meaning of dreams on your ownincubating dreams to help answer questionswhat things can affect our dreams and our ability to connect with themusing dreamwork to heal imbalances between masculine and feminine energyABOUT AMYAmy Pearson, founder of Being Amy, is a master coach, writer, dream analyst, speaker and instructor who strives to make the world a better place by telling the truth … in public. No apologies. Her coaching approach is irreverent, incisive, and deeply compassionate. She calls upon an eclectic mix of modalities, including The Work, metaphors to invoke waking dreams, dream analysis, Internal Family Systems and self-compassion. Amy is currently finishing up her first book, a work of creative nonfiction called Forgiving Amy. She lives in Ashland, Oregon, with her husband, three children, one dog, two cats, five chickens, and four koi.LINKShttps://dreamalchemywithamy.com/BeingAmyTheBlog.com@beingamytheblog https://www.facebook.com/beingamytheblogDOABLE CHANGESAt the end of every episode, we share three doable changes, so you can take what you've heard and put it into action. Change comes from action. Sometimes the action we need to take isn't obvious. Sometimes it's a way to step more into our intuition.Doable changes are things that you can add into your life, one at a time to make micro shifts and really create a ripple effect that will create a big change over time. Choose one that really piques your interest and roll with it. Here are three Doable Changes from this conversation:WAKE UP EARLY TO REMEMBER DREAMS. Try waking up 1.5–2 hours before you usually do to start to capture your dreams. This might look like setting an intention to remember your dream and rise earlier. It might be being more aware when you wake to use the bathroom. In any case, write down whatever you do remember, even if it isn't much. Try voice recording on your phone or keeping a notebook by your bed or in the bathroom. INCUBATE ANSWERS. Before bed, write a question you are seeking an answer to. Ask your dreams to help you answer it. This helps set the tone for what you want your dreams to bring up.WORK WITH YOUR DREAMS. You don't have to be a walking dream dictionary to find meaning in your dreams. Start by noticing how you feel when you wake from a dream. What do you notice? What is getting your attention? What associations do you have from your current or past life?...
This is Episode 38 of PsychCrunch, the podcast of the British Psychological Society's Research Digest, sponsored by Routledge Psychology. In years gone by, the norm for psychological research was to design studies from the outside looking in. Acting as observers of particular populations, there was generally an expected separation between the researcher and the researched. More recently, however, there's been a shift. For decades, the rallying cry “nothing about us without us” has been used by the disability rights movement to communicate the idea that no policy should come to pass without their full and direct participation. This important approach has made its way to psychological research, and as it gathers momentum, we're seeing more and more lived experiences and expert insights from studied populations enrich our scientific landscape. This episode, Emma Palmer-Cooper meets James Cusak (Chief Executive, Autistica) and Dr Amy Pearson to look at the benefit of involving studied populations in research design — specifically, in autism research. #ActuallyAutistic podcast hosts, Dr. Angela Lauria and Matt Lowry, LPP, interview Dr. Kade Sharp to discuss the ways that kink fits into Autistic culture. * What is kink (spoiler: it's not necessarily sexual!), what are some common kinks, and are “kinksters” dangerous or ill?* The fundamental flaws in most research methods that explore Autistic sexuality.* Stereotypes and misunderstandings that most people have about the kink community.* Kinky spreadsheets and other Autistic systems of communicating comfort and consent.* Honoring sensory differences, connecting through SPINs, defined expectations, and other ways that the kink community appeals to so many autistics.* How kink helps neurodivergent folks to feel empowered—regardless of whether or not they identify as a kinkster. * Tips on exploring kink with partners, finding kinky folks to explore with, and getting kinky solo.“I think I just found out I'm kinky.”“I think a lot of your listeners are going to find that out today.”“Someone asked if he was my biological son. And I said, ‘why, yes.' And somebody was like, ‘well, how did you make him?' And…It occurred to me while answering this question: there is a big myth out there that we do not have the sex.”“Kink is not just sexual. So, in fact, a good proportion of the folks that responded to my eligibility survey for the study were on the aro/ace spectrum.”“There's so much unspoken stuff and so much resentment because allistic partners say, ‘You should know what I want,' or that kind of nonsense. But when you explicitly negotiate and have spreadsheets regarding everything from eye contact to butt stuff, it makes relationships run a lot smoother.”Are you an Autistic kinkster? With just over a week until World Autism day, I am joined by Dr Amy Pearson, Developmental Psychologist who specializes in Autism and Neurodivergence for an incredible conversation. While I don't normally talk about me on these podcasts, as an Aspie diagnosed in 1998 at age 14, this is one where I 'brave-up' and talk about this from both my perspective, as well as where I hope this is all going in terms of neurodiversity in the workplace. Amy brings a wealth of knowledge and great conversation around the history of neurodiversity diagnosis, the changes in attitude around this area, as well as the benefits of bringing divergent thinkers into the workplace. Just perhaps not an open-plan one! Here are the links to the resources that she recommends for anyone interesting in learning a little more about neurodiversity: https://theautisticadvocate.com https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Luke-Beardon/e/B072HC7SHS%3Fref=dbs_a_mng_rwt_scns_share Also look out for her upcoming book.

Every child and young person is different, but it is possible to spot the signs of autistic masking. Our guests say families should trust their instincts and be prepared to advocate for their child if professionals do not recognise their masking. They also discuss autistic burnout and stereotypes around masking.Guests: Kieran Rose (The Autistic Advocate), Dr Amy Pearson, Jodie SmittenWebsite: https://www.ne-as.org.uk/podcastEmail: info@ne-as.org.ukMusic: AukestraEditor: Niall Hegarty
Masking is something we all do to project an "acceptable" version of ourselves - but for those of us who are autistic, it can feel like something we do to survive. It's hard for families and friends to spot, let alone educational and medical professions, yet masking can lead to misdiagnosis and burnout so it's vital we all understand it. Our autistic guests Kieran Rose, Dr Amy Pearson and Jodie Smitten explain what masking looks like, why people do it, and how difficult it is to stop.Music: AukestraEditing: Niall Hegarty

On the podcast this week I have part 2 with fellow coach, Amy Pearson. We discuss that feeling of being stuck and figuring out what “you wanna be when you grow up”. Many parents talk themselves into a life of complacency and may not realize that you can do something to create shifts even when things are “fine”. My motto is eff “fine”...YOU deserve fan-freakin-tastic! To access Amy Pearson’s personality assessment, “The Approval Quiz”, Click here. This week on the podcast, I “sat” down with my friend and fellow coach, Amy Pearson, to discuss finding “your peeps”. Both Amy and I strive to live a life that feels connected, purpose driven and good in our bodies. I think that more of us than we realize, are living a life that doesn’t feel great. You can be surrounded by people, have a full or “busy” schedule and social calendar and still feel a sense of “stuckness”. Amy and I candidly discuss all these issues and more. I LOVE her ⅓ rule and I can’t wait for you to learn it straight from the source. Warning: You may listen to this episode and have some real aha’s about the people you’ve chosen to “sit next” to. As “they” say, it’s important to take stock of the people you surround yourself with and notice whether it’s a relationship meant for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Start being okay with wanting what you want, and decide that you are worthy of it. –Amy Pearson In this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I’m really excited to talk with Amy Pearson, who is a life coach about how she gets so much done. We talk about focus and time management strategies that help her see time as a gift. We start out talking about mornings. Amy talks about becoming more of a morning person and what parts of her morning set her up for a good day. Plus we consider the challenges of alone time when we are all stuck home together. And we recognize that we all have different daily rhythms and how working with your own rhythm (including going to bed on time for you and getting up at the right time, again for you) can make a huge difference. Amy says she is her own best mentor, and that talking to herself nicely in her head is really important to what she gets done. She’s replaced her inner critic with an inner mentor. This paired with her outer strategy of time management helps her accomplish a lot. We talk about: Being willing to forgive yourself and how that helps you be compassionate and talk kindly to yourself Setting boundaries The big rocks, small rocks, sand idea of time management (the FLOW planner is built on this idea) Scheduling time for yourself so you don’t burnout Work hard/less work cycles and honoring your real intention A willingness to be uncomfortable to succeed as an entrepreneur BIO Amy Pearson, founder of Being Amy, is a Master life coach, a coach mentor and instructor for Martha Beck’s life coach training. She’s a teacher, coach, writer and speaker. A former approval addict (with the occasional relapse), she is now addicted to success. Her mission is nothing short of world peace by empowering every woman on a mission to magnify their tribe and make an epic impact doing their own unique thing in the world. Based on years of research into what she calls “Approval Addiction,” she created a personality assessment called “The Approval Quiz.” LINKS https://www.approvalquiz.com/ https://www.beingamytheblog.com/ https://plansimple.com/flow-planner/ Doable Changes from this episode: KNOW YOUR OWN RHYTHMS. We talk about rhythms in terms of when we go to bed and when we wake, when we need rest. Start paying attention to what your body wants. When do you want rest? When does your body want to go to bed? What happens if you honor that instead of resisting? Play with different waking times and see how it feels. SCHEDULE YOUR BIG ROCKS FIRST. Your big rocks are the most important things that move your toward your goals. Schedule those first. Then schedule you smaller rocks around that. Your sand or least important things, will fill in the gaps. PRACTICE WITH AN INTERNAL MENTOR. Start by noticing the voice inside your head. Try switching it to a kinder voice, one you might use with somebody else. When you start to hear the critic voice, see if you can stop, accept yourself as human, and forgive yourself for any mistakes. Then try speaking to yourself kindly. This is a work in progress and starts by stopping that critical voice when you start hearing it.

This is a story about ego, feeling like a failure for 2 hot seconds, doing the work, and about perspective. Portland Oregon was the 4th of 5 cities on my book tour. My friend, Bari Tessler had recommended this book store, Annie Bloom’s, telling me how awesome it was and that when she had her book signing there, she had 50 people in attendance. Bari and I have about the same size audience so I thought this was completely feasible and we booked the event there. I was really excited about this one because one of my long-time clients was driving down from Seattle and a colleague I’ve known forever online was coming too. Plus, three additional colleagues had RSVP’ed and I was all around excited. The Facebook event told me 17 people had said YES and 74 were interested. I was expecting a great crowd! The bookstore had set up about 25 chairs and as the time got closer, there were 8 amazing people in attendance. Two of them were the lady I was renting an Airbnb from and her friend. Those 3 additional colleagues I mentioned weren’t there. Obviously it wasn’t a total failure. If I went down the rabbit-hole of compare and despair to Bari’s event, well, yes, but I did my best not to go there. The people in attendance were AMAZING and I know this is part of putting yourself out there. Sometimes it doesn’t go as we planned. Sometimes we jump and the net doesn’t appear and we have to deal with all the feelings around it. When the event was over, I was chatting with my friend Amy Pearson. I was telling her how awesome it was to get to meet people in person and also that I was a bit disappointed to see so many empty seats. And Amy said, “Really?! I thought this was a great turnout. I’m totally impressed.” Well, how do you like that for perspective? Sometimes we let our egos get in the way and that’s okay. Just notice. And sometimes we feel like a failure. That’s okay too, just don’t stay there. Realize it’s just a story your brain/inner-critic made up. Lastly, sometimes it’s all about perspective. What may not be great to you, may be great to someone else. It’s good sometimes to take that into consideration. ********************************** I have something exciting I’ve been cooking up. I know many of you are familiar with the work of Brené Brown and know I’m a certified Daring Way Facilitator since 2014. I’m thinking of doing a Daring Way weekend retreat in August. Go to this link to sign up to be notified when I open applications soon. There’s no obligation, but I’d love to get a feel for how much interest is out there! Thank you! http://yourkickasslife.com/218

Welcome back to another episode of the recovery series! If you are new to the series, I’ve been speaking with women about their addiction and who are in recovery. We cover topics such as alcohol addiction, codependency, and even food addiction. You can find all of the episodes here. This week I welcome back my friend and colleague, Amy Pearson. You may have heard Amy and I talk about being addicted to approval and feeling like a fraud back in Episode 118. This time we talk in-depth about her addiction to alcohol, her obsession with seeking approval and using blame as a crutch. Amy is a master certified life coach, a coach mentor, and founder of LiveBrazen.com. She is currently writing her first book, a memoir called, “Forgiving Amy,” where she shares her experiences with self-forgiveness. Amy has been sober for four years. Today, she shares how grieving the loss of her mother and feeling shame around not being the person she thought she should be led to her downward spiral into ”self-medicating” with alcohol. And, then later, she shares a poignant story of what made her turn everything around and led her onto the path of recovery. In this episode you’ll hear: How two life-changing events underlined her path to addiction (9 minutes and 12 seconds) Amy discusses how alcoholism is progressive and the fact that she was very self-aware of her addiction (13:03) Amy shares the story of putting her children at risk because of her addiction and how it ultimately led her on the path to recovery. Plus, she shares a promise she made to herself. (16:43) How recovery can lead you to uncover and accept parts of you that you didn’t know even existed; including the good, the bad and the dark. (21:18) Why Amy thinks alcohol and drinking is the lazier choice (24:27) Telling the truth and finding a supportive community helped Amy get sober, and how it all was a very humbling process (26:05) Saying no is hard, but it’s so important to put into practice when maintaining sobriety (28:39) We discuss triggers (both big and small) and two tools Amy uses for overcoming them (32:28) http://yourkickasslife.com/196

Enwaken Radio welcomes Amy Pearson, Master Coach & Expert on Approval-Seeking!
Amy tells us her background and how she calls herself a “gold star chaser” and how she used to have fantasies of people looking at her, admiring her and asking how she does it all. Basically, she was an approval addict! It was after the sudden death of her mother made her take a look at her own life and make important changes.
