In this episode of the First Day Podcast, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D., is joined by Cherian Koshy, CFRE, CAP®, Vice President at Kindsight and co-author of the study Donor Perceptions of AI. The conversation discusses how donors perceive the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the nonprofit sector. This independently funded study surveyed over 1,000 U.S. donors who contributed between $20 and $200,000 over the past year, offering a rare look into their comfort level with AI and its potential impact on fundraising practices. Cherian explains that while many nonprofits remain uncertain about AI's various use cases, donors are surprisingly well-informed, likely due to media coverage. The study revealed five key themes, with privacy and data security concerns (noted by 60% of respondents) among the top issues. However, an even more significant worry for donors was the loss of human connection in philanthropy. Despite these concerns, most respondents were optimistic about AI's potential to enhance a nonprofit's effectiveness and remained open to its responsible use. Interestingly, AI isn't a major factor in most donors' giving decisions—either positively or negatively. Less than 10% said they would be more inclined to donate because of AI, while the majority indicated it wouldn't affect their giving at all. Cherian shares practical applications for AI in improving internal processes, such as using chatbots to answer donor questions instantly. This efficiency can free up significant time for staff, allowing them to focus more on personal donor interactions. Bill highlights an example where AI saved one fundraiser 8–16 hours per week, resulting in several additional donor meetings. The episode wraps up with a focus on transparency and trust-building. Cherian stresses the importance of communicating openly with donors about how AI is being used and involving community members in discussions about technology and ethics. He cites the example of the Furniture Bank of Toronto, which developed a responsible AI manifesto to foster trust with stakeholders. With AI playing an increasingly central role in nonprofit operations, the conversation encourages organizations to balance innovation with authentic relationship-building while continuing to prioritize donor engagement and stewardship.

This provides a strong foundation for healthy eating.Prioritize Meal Prep: Planning and prepping your meals in advance helps you stay on track and avoid unhealthy choices when hunger strikes. After that, it's almost two hours of all new indie & underground joints from Prince Paolo with a healthy contribution from Danno as well, as they go through the latest good goods out. #feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Marianne Faithful – Broken EnglishWillis – Bad KidsIsaac Winemiller – Anything, at AllDuz Mancini – Shoot to KillLangva – Call MeAtomic Blue – Something I LovePart II (32:24)Kindsight – Don't You Grow UpRyan Egan - Alone For The Last TimeOk Cowgirl – Her EyesCyranno - PlasterTOPAZ - The MirrorClose to Monday – SplitPart III (62:10)The Ugly Fun - Running With ScissorsMERCHANT - Staying In Californiazzzahara - they dont knowFavours - EscapingWave – RoutinesColatura - We Run On EmptyPart IV (93:05)Public Body - HARD TO CONCENTRATEDeadletter - Pop Culture ConnoisseurROE - Too Much For AnyoneBeirut - So SlowlyMattiel - Jeff GoldblumBenji Lewis - Unwind

On this weeks episode of The Conscious Cloud we sit down with the bass wizard, know to mortals as Jazz, of the Band of Comerados. We talk about their new album Kindsight, being a musician in 2020, and musical influences. Band of Comerados Bandcamp: (https://bandofcomerados.bandcamp.com/album/kindsight) Band of Comerados IG: (https://www.instagram.com/band.of.comerados/) Band of Comerados FB: (https://www.facebook.com/bandofcomerados/)
You'd never know from the language in the intro clip to this episode, "humanity is contagious," that we recorded this conversation months before the pandemic hit North America. My guest this week is not psychic, but she is a teacher.Morgane Michael is an elementary school educator, professional development instructor, and podcast host. Her podcast KindSight 101 is about the mobilizing power of kindness in and out of the classroom. In fact, she was recently nominated for a Canadian Podcast Award!I had the great pleasure of being a guest on Morgane's show in the fall of 2019, and it was a true honor to flip the script. We talked about the difference between walking through the world as a teacher vs a podcaster, what's changed in education over the last decade, emotional regulation in kids and adults, how to connect with anyone, and of course Morgane shares two beautiful chance encounter stories. One that is thoroughly moving, and one that is sure to give you second-hand embarrassment. Now, remember, we recorded this months before the 2020 pandemic. Given the current state of education and the uncertainty over its future, this conversation may at times feel anachronistic. Like we're talking about some distant memory that wasn't just two months ago.And for that reason, I hopped on a quick video chat with Morgane just a few days ago. We talked about the current crisis and how it's affecting her as both a teacher and as a parent whose kids are currently engaged in remote learning. That addendum will be available to subscribers via the community email. It's free to subscribe. Just head to BeyondNetworkingPodcast.com & toss your email into the box. We'd love to have you join the human connection revolution. Discovered around May 2011, this trojan horse made history by being infected in millions of computers. Affecting only Windows computers, this malware was downloaded as a form of a botnet while going undetected thanks to rootkit techniques. Rootkit is a new development in the hacker community. To the public it has a negative connotation to it since it’s usually a collection of malware. Rootkit is also known to be difficult to detect and uses all kinds of techniques like memory dump analysis, difference scanning and more. Getting back to ZeroAccess though, this botnet spread quickly and was estimated to be on at least 9 million systems. However those numbers vary depending on where you’re getting them. Antivirus vender Sophos stated there was only 1 million by the third quarter of 2012. Kindsight, a security firm, estimated 2.2 million infected around that time too. Regardless, this trojan horse spread quickly. But how was it able to do that? Well pair that up with rootkit techniques being tough to detect, it also had various forms of getting into computers. One attack was through social engineering. A user was encouraged to execute a malicious code by clicking on a seemingly legitimate file. It could also be hidden as another payload in a pop up. An example is the trojan horse could come in when you see a license key pop up on your screen. The second attack it uses is through an advertising network. An ad could tempt you to click on it and redirect you to a site that contains the malicious virus. The final attack could be through an affiliate scheme. A third party person gets paid for installing the rootkit on your system by whatever means. Considering the severity of infected systems, Microsoft did move to destroy the command and control network of the botnet in December 2013. However they were unsuccessful and people can still update this botnet even today. So what warranted this attack? Well it helps to understand what ZeroAccess does. And on a consumer level it does cause some concern. When a computer gets infected with the ZeroAccess rootkit it immediately starts one of the two botnet operations: click fraud or bitcoin mining. What this means is that our computer is either remotely mining bitcoins (which were valued at 2.7 million USD at the time) and generating money for the controller or it’s clicking on ads in the background without us noticing. The bitcoin mining doesn’t really cost many people, however click fraud did impact advertisers significantly with some reporting they paid $900,000 a day in fraudulent clicks. While some of us may not care so much about that, there are some other things this trojan horse does. For one it could infect a random driver and thus gain control over a operating system. Even if you’re lucky and it doesn’t infect a driver, it automatically disables Windows Security Center, Firewall and Defender. This could leave you open to more attacks in the future. While this trojan horse may be a thing of the past, we still must exercise caution. Be wary about suspicious emails or what advertisements you are clicking on, particularly where those ads are located.

Brian Miller is a magician, speaker, and author of personal success book Three New People: Make the Most of Your Daily Interactions and Stop Missing Amazing Opportunities. For 12 years he has shared his magic and his message with thousands of audiences in 11 countries across 4 continents. Based in Connecticut, Brian now performs his interactive blend of jaw dropping magic and laugh-out-loud comedy at 200+ events each year. There is a special discount code located here on Brian's website associated with KindSight 101, whereby you can get his amazing book for a whopping 40% off! As a child, Brian suffered from a debilitating social and speech anxiety. He was bullied and mostly friendless through middle school. Though he loved magic tricks, he couldn’t muster the courage to perform for anyone. Brian got a fresh start in a new school for 9th grade, where he met another student who was also into magic. Through magic and friendship, Brian developed self-confidence for the very first time. Founding his business at the early age of 16, Brian worked as a professional magician while completing a dual Bachelor’s of Science in mathematics and philosophy, achieving a 4.0 in philosophy and receiving two international awards for presenting original work. He was accepted into a PhD program for Philosophy of Language, but turned it down in order to pursue a career in entertainment. Brian quickly found a following with college students on the national campus activities circuit, earning two nomination’s for “America’s Best Campus Artist” (Campus Activities Magazine) by the age of 24. As his act evolved, so did the demand for his work. Brian developed a reputation for mixing world class entertainment with an engaging personality and the ability to adapt to any group. He began accepting invitations to entertain at exclusive private events throughout New England, such as bar/bat mitzvahs, weddings, company holiday parties, and corporate events. Military Entertainment and More In April of 2016, Brian partnered with Navy Entertainment to bring magic to the American troops and their families stationed overseas on military bases. He has since completed 3 tours for the troops in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Brian calls these tours the most rewarding work of his career. Read about his most recent tour across Asia here. Brian’s work has been featured in the Hartford Courant, The Huffington Post, MAGIC Magazine, Genii Magazine, and The Society of American Magicians Magazine. He was also showcased in the 2016 documentary film The Get Together about the legendary Abbott’s Get Together magic convention held annually for the past 80 years in Colon, MI. Beyond Magic Brian’s experience as a magician make him a dynamic and engaging corporate keynote speaker and youth motivational speaker. His TEDx talk “How to Magically Connect with Anyone” has been seen and shared by 3 million people worldwide. Outside of magic Brian is a passionate musician. He has achieved critical acclaim as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter as half of the group Escher’s Enigma, a unique studio project with his father Russ Miller. Brian lives in Connecticut with his wife Lindsey.

What do business and generosity have in common? How does someone grappling with their own mortality bounce forward stronger than ever, with a newfound understanding of what matters in life? How do we teach what truly matters to our own children through our honest modelling? In this very special episode, you’ll meet Ruban Rebalkin, a loving father, husband and the Owner and operator of Tumblebums (a local toddler playcentre business that saved my sanity on numerous occasions when my two were little. I invited Ruben onto KindSight 101 because his story of resilience, courage, and faith is inspiring to anyone-parents, teachers, humans alike. He overcame some of the most challenging circumstances, bounced forward, and continues on to pay-it-forward to the community through the work that he does serving families. He provides hope for those going through dark times and does it with grace and humour. This story has the power to shift a person’s perspective on what matters in life and the importance of generosity in creating community. You can learn more about Ruban by searching Tumblebums online. Hope you enjoy our conversation!
It’s 2007. Shutter shades are all the rage. People have to juggle ipods and flip phones for their respective music and T9 texting needs. Facebook is replacing My space. Transformers has just come out on the big screen. Picture a ninth-grade boy in Cambridge, Nova Scotia, Canada. One frosty February morning about, he enters his school wearing a pink shirt. The jeers start quietly, as people nudge and elbow one another, snickering under their breaths. Pink shirt. He’s unaware until louder, the quiet jeering quickly gains momentum, raucous name calling ensues, and the taunting continues relentlessly throughout the day. The boy, who entered his high-school that day, unaware that a singular colour could make him feel so wrong, emerges, crushed by the barrage of cruel insults and bullying. Thankfully, two Grade 12 students Travis Price and David Sheppard decide to take an iconic stand against bullying that day. They go to a nearby discount store and buy 50 pink shirts, including tank tops, to wear to school the next day. Overnight, more than 850 kids get the memo and show up to school the next day dawning pink shirts in solidarity with the Grade 9 boy. More than 10 years later, their act of standing up to bullying has grown into a worldwide movement called Pink Shirt Day. In honour of Pink Shirt Day, which takes place February 27th 2019, I thought I’d gather a few terrific ideas that anyone could use to celebrate kindness in schools and communities for this special bonus episode of KindSight 101. You’ll hear from a music teacher (Margaret Dzbik), a dance teacher (Karley Allen), a classroom teacher (Danielle Miller), and I’ll give you two bonus ideas (inspired by Tamara Letter and Laurie McIntosh) that you could implement in your classroom for the special day! #pinkshirtday2019
In my interview with Morgane Michael, host and producer of Kindsight 101, we discuss why kindness gets a bad rap; the research that shows how kindness and compassion actually increase creativity and productivity; how Pixar and Disney are embracing kindness practices in their work cultures without lowering their standards; how to counter the 'live or die' mentality of perfectionism and achievement; the contagious impact of kindness, affecting our physical and mental wellness as well as the dominant culture; how social media can be damaging, leading to depression and anxiety; how we can find ways to be more 'real' and risk being more authentic and vulnerable in our public personas; and why play is the antidote to perfectionism.
