What are some less costly alternatives for a managed multi-sig bitcoin inheritance plan? Why poor man's multi-sig? A multi-sig setup is good for inheritance purposes, because multiple keys are needed to access your funds. This way, there's no pressure on one single keyholder to have high-level security. In a multi-sig, if one person loses their key, an attacker or hacker can't do much without the other keys. Of course, the keyholders should keep the keys secure. But if one leaves his 12 key words laying around, it's not as risky as it would be if he was the sole keyholder. Also, the keyholders should be geographically distributed – don't give them to people all living in the same house. A drawback of using multi-sig is that it can be expensive, especially if your stack isn't that big. Having 3 to 5 hardware wallets can cost several hundreds of dollars. It might not be cost-justified by the current level of your holdings. Many of the good plans are through popular services (such as Unchained Capital, Casa, and Nunchuk). However, those are possible single points of failure. If a hacker knows that some of your keys are with these companies, they may find a way to access them. It's easier for a hacker to hit one of these companies instead of hitting a computer in a random house. These companies are also an easy target for subpoenas. Maybe you going through a divorce or a child custody battle, or maybe you have IRS or creditor issues. They may figure out that you are using a big company and figure out where to serve papers in hopes of getting your account information. Separate seed from passphrase What are some poor man options to avoid the expense of multiple hardware devices, as well as the small risk of using a centralized key-holding company? One option is to separate your seed from your passphrase. If you have a wallet with 12 or 24 words, you can additionally add a passphrase (which is an equivalent of a 13th or 25th word). Now you need both the 12 or 24 words and the passphrase to access the wallet. While you are alive, you can just transact normally with your wallet and passphrase. But the plan is to give the seed phrase (the 12 or 24 words) to your executor and backup executors, while giving the passphrase to your heirs or someone else. After your death, those two parties need to team up to access your wallet. While you are alive, they cannot access your wallet unless they combine the seed and passphrase. This is similar to multi-sig, where neither keyholder has to exercise extreme caution. But you should choose people who will keep these safe. BUT what if your executors and heirs are the same people? In that case, you may want to hire a professional executor as a professional keyholder. Giving your adult children the seed and the passphrase makes it very easy for them to conspire together while you are alive. Separate clone wallet from PIN Another option is to separate your clone wallet from your PIN. You can load your seed phrase into a dedicated hardware wallet that is not directly connected to the internet. In order to turn on your device, you have to enter a PIN. During your life, you transact with your wallet and PIN as usual. Here, the bitcoin inheritance plan is to give a clone wallet to your executor and backup executors without the PIN. Then you give the PIN to your heirs or someone else, creating your own 2 of 2 multi-sig. Again, neither keyholder needs to exercise extreme caution, since there is not much anyone can do with only one piece of the puzzle. A huge drawback is that without the PIN, your executor cannot keep the clone wallet up to date (software updates, etc.). Depending how much time lapses before you die, he could end up with a very outdated device. To address this, you may have to do some periodic updates for the executor. Probate (can apply to Bitcoin) There's no perfect plan; these are some options for folks who can't cost-justify using a multi-sig, but like the idea of splitting up access for security reasons. My book, “How Probate Works,” applies to your bitcoin inheritance planning because it explains the kinds of tasks your executor has to do when you pass. I'll be doing more talks to groups on this topic and we plan to post them shortly. In the meantime, keep your bitcoin questions coming! Request your free consultation

Self custody is personal responsibility - Actionable advice with Antomous I had the pleasure of sitting down with my good friend @antomousB. Antomous is the founder of the Bitcoin self-custody security solutions company Vulcan21.com. He also joins me and QNA for our monthly shows and has been contributing to the open-source space including his work with SeedSigner, SteelQR and SeedMint. In this conversation we discuss the importance of self-custody to protect yourself against incompetent and/or fraudulent custodians as well as to uphold the core principals of Bitcoin the network and bitcoin the asset. Most of this episode is dedicated to actionable advice regarding holding your own keys. Getting your keys off exchanges is the Zero to One moment which does not require a perfect setup. We then cover a detailed seven-step-plan to guide you through the considerations and tradeoffs when deciding on a security setup. Antomous also recommends running your own node, planning for inheritance, and practicing with Bitcoin testnet. Lastly, we go through the range of high quality, secure and convenient bitcoin seed security products offered by Vulcan21.com. These include the SeedSigner as an air-gapped signing device in combination with the SteelQR backup plates that secure your seed encoded as a QR-code on 316L stainless steel (also compatible with Blockstream Jade). The SteelQRs can be additionally secured in in the SteelVault. Finally, the SeedMint stamping jig is back in stock which you can use to secure your human readable seed on general-purpose stainless-steel washers. Take personal responsibility, one seed at a time. As always, I enjoyed speaking to Antomous and would urge anyone with questions to reach out. What did we miss? NLD bug, FULLRBF, FTX, anyone? Bitcoin Monthly with BQA and Antomous Bitcoin monthly 0021 In today's episode we got back up to speed on all the software updates that were released over the last two months. BlueWallet has now enabled exporting transaction history and labels and we hope the various wallets out there can agree on a standard for this. Samourai Dojo now allows you to access Fulcrum in your local network and SeedSigner published an experimental release for a custom SeedSigner operating system. This will be a huge jump in security and performance and it will also allow the removal of the microSD card once powered on. SparrowWalllet has added tab icons and it only took them 16 hours to integrate BQAs request to be able to adjust the QR-code density so less good cameras can read them. HodlHodl is now integrated with Trezor, Umbrel allows community app stores and Samourai Wallet has redesigned it's user interface for STONEWALLx2 and Stowaway collaboration as well as introduced a JoinBot for making collaborative spends without manually choosing a collaborator. Getting into the major discussion points of the day we went through the details of both NLD bugs and gave our oppinions on the way the situation was handled by Burak who expoited the bugs. We also take our time to go through the pros and cons of the ongoing discussion around the new option FULLRBF in the pre-release of Bitcoin Core v24.0. Lastly we touch on the accounts of Aaron van Wirdum and Sjors Provoost who attended the pro forma hearing in the case against Tornado Cash developer Alexy Pertsev. Heya cryptozens Tonight's Stories: HND and AGVE hacked More than 100 Illegal Mines Shut Down in Kazakhstan UK's FCA Seeking New Talent It's 10 PM Pacific time and the date is March 15th, 2022. And welcome back to the Crypto Overnighter. I am your host, Nick. The cover model for this podcast is Tex and together we take a nightly look at the crypto, nft and metaverse space and the industry that surrounds it. We bring you new stories on familiar topics. And keep in mind, nothing in this show should ever be considered financial advice. If you're new here and you find you're liking the show, subscribe and rate us. If you're on Spotify, you can rate right from the app. So give Tex and I 5 stars. It'll help other people find their way to this podcast. Alright then. You ever use one of those coin mixers to keep your transactions secret? Don't answer that. But, if you have, just be aware. The United Kingdom's National Crime Agency wants to regulate crypto coin mixers. They want to use the country's laws against money laundering and force the service providers to audit transactions. Gary Cathcart is the NCA's head of financial investigation. Now he claimed that these transaction mixing tools can be used for quote: churning criminal cash, obscuring its origins and audit trail. They're gonna have problems if they try it. Just the decentralized nature alone makes it a complex task. That's why Nunchuk had to explain to the Canadian Government that as a non custodial wallet, they just don't have the information the government wanted. Now, I know Wasabi is a privacy focused wallet. Now they said on Monday they'd be blocking transactions that sketch. And keep in mind, these mixers aren't foolproof. After the BInance $40 million hack, the thieves used a mixer to try and launder it. Didn't work and the funds were traced. It's tough to beat a distributed ledger. All episode long, we are talking Super Mario Galaxy. A Wii game released in 2007 and recently updated on the Nintendo Switch with Super Mario 3D All-Stars.We start with some quick general info before diving into the gameplay. Did we like the outer space setting? How well did the Wii Remote & Nunchuk work? What were our favorite power ups?We then go into the galaxies. What were our favorites from each dome? Which ones did we not like? What ones surprised us?Afterwards, we discuss the music. This was the first time a Super Mario game used a symphony orchestra. How well did it work out? Is it the best music in the Mario franchise?Later, we touch on the story. Was it better than most Mario games? Did we like the addition of Rosalina and the Lumas? How do we feel about how Bowser and Bowser Jr. were portrayed? We end with a conversation about the legacy of the game. Is it one of the better Mario games? Is it better than its sequel? How does it rank among other video games?Help support the showBecome a monthly patron: https://www.patreon.com/tgpzmediaMake a one-time donation: https://www.paypal.me/tgpzmediaDiscord: https://discordapp.com/invite/ETRz9bEFacebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/gamingrealm/Podcast Website: https://www.buzzsprout.com/799910Website: https://www.tgpzgaming.com/Twitter (Busted Buttons): https://twitter.com/BustedButtonsPCTwitter (TGPZ Gaming): https://twitter.com/TGPZGamingInstagram (Busted Buttons): https://www.instagram.com/bustedbuttonspc/Instagram (TGPZ Gaming): https://www.instagram.com/tgpzgaming/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/TGPZGaming/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/tgpzgamingPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/TGPZGamingShop/Two Guys Playing Zelda (TGPZ)Website: https://www.twoguysplayingzelda.com/Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/zeldarealm/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/TwoGuysPlayingZeldaTwitter: https://twitter.com/2guysplayzeldaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/twoguysplayingzelda/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/twoguysplayingzelda/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/tgpzmedia)

The Osborne 1 with Lee Felsenstein Welcome to episode 91 of the Floppy Days Podcast for May, 2019. In the timeline for personal computer introductions, we are now in the year 1981. For this episode we are going to be talking about the Osborne 1. The Osborne 1 was the first commercially successful portable microcomputer, released on April 3, 1981 by Osborne Computer Corporation (OCC). It was powered by the Z80 CPU at a blazing 4MHz, weighed 24.5 lb, cost US$1,795, and ran the CP/M operating system. It was powered from a wall socket, as it had no on-board battery, but is a portable device since it can be hand-carried when packed. The computer shipped with a large bundle of software that was almost equivalent in value to the machine itself. The Osborne 1 was the brain child of Adam Osborne and was brilliantly engineered by Lee Felsenstein. So, who better to have help me talk about the machine than Lee Felsenstein himself! For this show, we’re going to spend some time with Lee talking about the history surrounding the Osborne 1. Finally, Lee will leave us and I will cover the usual computer topics such as tech specs, emulators, Web sites, and more. During Mike's Course Mike and Billy dicsuss the growing trend of faux social network pages of professional golfers on sites such as Twitter and Facebook.Gerry Hogan- Inventor of Nunchuk ShaftsEarly Analysis - Gerry Hogan’s interest in shaft function was triggered some forty odd years ago when he first noticed that multiple steel shafts were bent at the point where the shaft tip exited the hosel. Importantly, he observed that virtually all the shafts were bent forward, seldom, if ever, were they bent backwards.Had the bending been a result of impacting the earth or the ball then the bending would have been backwards, not forwards. Had the bending occurred as a result of impacting a solid mass, such as a tree branch, the bending would have been located at the site of the contact between shaft and branch and it would be rare that this occurred at the junction of hosel and shaft. The point that struck Mr. Hogan most forcefully at the time was: if so many shafts were permanently bending in such a manner as to be so obvious, then all shafts must actually be flexing/ bending forward, to some degree in this area. This bending/flexing was occurring in the downswing while the shaft was attempting to recover structurally to a straight line. Perhaps no one else had ever given the matter thought and he decided to examine it!Take a driver with a manufactured genuine loft of (say) 10 degrees, in the real world of shaft tip forward flexing what was it’s effective loft at and through impact after all of this bending had occurred prior to impact? As time passed, Mr. Hogan continued to experiment to determine the various influences on the clubhead/shaft relationship of the traditional shafts being offered in the marketplace.Mr. Hogan took the approach that science is a wonderful tool, but every law and every rule from every possible aspect of science involved in the specific entity in question must be identified, understood, applied and satisfied before perfection can possibly be considered.Mike & Billy also discuss Billy's past tournament experiences at the Straight Down Fall Classic held at the San Luis Obispo CC located in San Luis Obispo, California.Visit the Golf Talk Radio sponsors and tell them GTRadio sent you they help make the show possible!
