Nascido em Belém do Pará, ainda criança mudou-se para Castanhal e na escola, gostava de jogar futebol. Aos 18 anos de idade, começou a trabalhar como agricultor e feirante. Sem deixar a agricultura, trabalhou também como técnico de informática, motorista de caminhão e encarregado de obra e não havia espaço para o esporte. No início dos anos 2000, decidiu mudar-se para o interior e dar continuidade à plantação de cacau iniciada por seu pai na década de 1970. Foi ali que construiu sua vida, formou sua família e encontrou o sustento e a tranquilidade que sempre buscou. Porém, décadas de excessos e de uma vida desregrada fizeram com que sua saúde física e mental cobrasse a conta. Sobrepeso, hipertensão, diabetes, ansiedade e outros problemas que já comprometiam sua qualidade de vida o fizeram entender que precisava mudar para continuar vivendo. Em 2020, começou a pedalar. Pouco depois, vieram as primeiras corridas. Mais do que perder peso, descobriu uma nova forma de enxergar a própria vida. Quando conheceu o triathlon, encontrou uma nova motivação. Sabia pedalar, estava aprendendo a correr, mas não sabia nadar. Começou praticamente do zero e decidiu aprender. A cada treino, uma nova descoberta. A cada pequena evolução, mais certeza de que estava no caminho certo. Treinar, porém, nunca foi simples. Onde mora não existe piscina. Muitas vezes, treina em um tanque de irrigação. Corre pelas estradas de terra da região ou pela BR-230, a Rodovia Transamazônica. Pedala no rolo ou enfrenta a rodovia, estreita, sem acostamento e com asfalto ruim. Participou do seu primeiro triathlon em 2024 e, desde então, divide os dias entre a lavoura de cacau, os treinos e as competições, certo de que o esporte não apenas mudou sua rotina, mas também lhe devolveu o controle sobre a própria vida e o ajudou a recuperar sua saúde física e mental. Send us Fan MailEdward (“Ted”) Lomicka is a healthcare finance and innovation strategist at Community Health Systems and an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University. He is also a husband to Michelle and father of two daughters, Ashton and Emory. Ted, an American ultra-endurance triathlete and marathon swimmer, is known for pursuing large-scale endurance challenges. He has completed 35 IRONMAN triathlons, including the 2016 IRONMAN World Championship, as well as two ULTRAMAN triathlons, including the 2019 ULTRAMAN World Championship. He has also finished the first five sequential events in the ANVIL ultra-distance triathlon race series, ranging from 140.6 miles to 703.0 miles. In the open water, Ted Lomicka has completed the Kaiwi Channel crossing from Molokai to Oahu, multiple Caribbean marathon swims, and most recently, the Triple Maui Nui Swim—becoming the first man and second person in history to complete the 34-mile, three-channel, nonstop crossing. He is currently writing First to Five: The Five Hammers of a Do Anything Mindset, a forthcoming book exploring the psychological frameworks, preparation strategies, and decision-making principles that drive ultra-endurance performance and other high-stakes pursuits. He trains in Tennessee and competes internationally. Foi na adolescência que ela descobriu os esportes. Mergulhou de cabeça no handebol e no basquete. Durante alguns anos, também se dedicou à dança e chegou a considerar seguir carreira como bailarina. Em 1998, mudou-se para Salvador para cursar a faculdade, afastando-se da vida esportiva. Anos mais tarde, em 2013, o jornalismo a levaria ao Rio de Janeiro, onde os esportes ao ar livre passaram a ocupar mais espaço em sua rotina. Em dezembro de 2020, em plena pandemia, decidiu ingressar no triathlon, mesmo sem saber nadar e praticamente sem experiência sobre uma bicicleta. A estreia aconteceu em 2021, no Capixaba de Ferro. Uma síncope durante o ciclismo, porém, impediu que completasse a prova. Já no ano seguinte, concluiu seu primeiro Ironman 70.3, no Rio de Janeiro. Em 2023, participou do seu primeiro Ironman, em Florianópolis, e conquistou uma vaga para disputar o Mundial no Havaí. Em outubro, viveu alguns dos momentos mais marcantes da sua trajetória esportiva ao alinhar na largada do Campeonato Mundial de Ironman. Voltou ao Ironman Brasil em 2025 já pensando em um objetivo ainda mais ousado: disputar uma prova nas distâncias do Ultraman, o UB515. Reuniu uma equipe de apoio formada exclusivamente por mulheres e partiu para uma experiência tão transformadora quanto enriquecedora: completar os 515 quilômetros da competição. This was the first wholly original tie-in film for a then-current Ultraman show on TV. While the title promises a crossover, behind-the-scenes shenanigans kept it from being as epic as it could've been. That being said, as a "midquel" for Dyna, it's a solid piece of tokusatsu. The film explicitly expresses the franchise's vehement anti-nihilism worldview and shows why the TDG Trilogy era is beloved. Since one of the main antagonists, the amazingly named Deathfacer, is an evil giant robot programmed with the memories of the Super GUTS team, this episode's Toku Topic is a (sorta) brief history of artificial intelligence (A.I.).
