To purchase a Power Hour and schedule your coaching session:https://calendly.com/lesaedwards/power-hour  Some of my coaching friends and I call it “shoulding” all over yourself. Thinking that things “should” be a certain way. In other words, we argue with reality – and you can never win that argument.  How does “shoulding” apply to your job? You might believe: -My job SHOULD pay XXX. -I SHOULD have more ___ in my job. -I SHOULD have gotten a promotion and pay raise by now. -I SHOULD have a better boss/coworkers.  -I SHOULD be more recognized for my contributions.  You get the idea.  Here's the problem with “shoulding:” you are operating from a place that guarantees frustration, anger, helplessness…whatever the emotion, they are all negative.  Even “shoulds” that sound innocuous can bring about the wrong emotions: -I SHOULD do a better job. -I SHOULD like my job better. -I SHOULD be more like ___(coworker).  -I SHOULD know how to do X. Again – you get the idea. How does “shoulding” play into this week's topic of “It's Not Your Job's Job to Make You Happy?” For one thing, the title indicates that you might think your job SHOULD provide you with happiness. Let's talk about that. Where is it written that your job should make you happy? Of course, we can talk about what we would prefer in a job or work environment, but really – what SHOULD our job do? -Provide some form of compensation in return for some type and level of work.  -Provide you a safe work environment. (all that implies) -For most full-time employees in the U.S., provide you with health insurance.  And that's about it. And we all probably know of people that didn't even receive those things.  So, really what I am saying here is to manage your expectations about what your job is supposed to do for you. For one thing, this puts you in a passive position with little to no control over your own happiness. Here are seven specific suggestions for managing your expectations about your job, your employer, your boss, or your coworkers.  #1 – Manage your thoughts. What are you thinking about your job? Your boss? That co-worker?  We know that our thoughts lead to how we feel. If we are thinking negative thoughts, we might feel sad, frustrated, hopeless…none of which serves us.  Start with awareness of the thoughts when they come up, then gently replace them with something less negative.  For example, “I hate this job!” can become “I like that I get to work from home.” Find something better to focus on.   #2 – Avoid comparisons. If your friend or significant other loves, loves, loves their job…that has no bearing on your job and your experience. You may know of others at your company that love their jobs – no relevance to you. This kind of comparison does not serve you.   #3 – Stay proactive. When you find yourself lamenting about a project you've been put on, a co-worker you have to partner with, or feedback you've gotten from your boss…what can you do to improve the situation? How can you contribute to the project in a way that feels good to you, how can you have a more positive experience with that co-worker, how can you make improvements based on the feedback from your boss?  Take positive action – you'll feel better.   #4 – Deliver excellence regardless. I encourage you to have this goal: That you can look yourself in the mirror at the end of each day and know you did your absolute best. Not to make your boss or someone else happy, but because of how it makes YOU feel. Your absolute best isn't a constant either – so give yourself some grace when your absolute best isn't all that great.   #5 – Remain in your Sphere of Influence.Stephen Covey talks about your Circle of Concern – those things over which you have no control – versus your Sphere of Influence – where you can affect change. Living in your Circle of Concern produces helplessness, frustration, and negativity. Your Sphere of Influence allows you to get to work on the things that matter to you. That's where you want to live.   #6 – Remember – it could ALWAYS be worse. While I don't want you to compare yourself to others who say they have the perfect job, I DO want you to realize that there are those who: -Don't have a job at all-Have a job doing something you would hate to do You get the idea. I used this strategy in my life at the worst time of my life. I won't go into details, but at about the same time the crisis happened in my life, there was a much worse crisis that happened to a physician in Connecticut that wiped out his entire family.  He will never know what a touchstone he was for me – if he could handle his situation with the grace and positivity he did, then so could I.  #7 – Get your happiness elsewhere. Ultimately, your happiness is an inside job, so look inward. Also – get clear on what happiness means to YOU – what will it take for you to be more happy, more often? Do you need time in nature on the weekends? Time with friends? Alone time? Do you need a run with your four-legged best friend?  When we release our jobs from being a source of happiness, we might actually find more happiness at work.   So here's the bottom line: Quit “shoulding” all over yourself. Allow yourself not to expect things from your job, your boss, your coworkers — other than the basics of safely, compensation, and maybe some insurance — then be pleasantly surprised when something good happens.   Are you in the wrong job that chips away at you every day? The document and coaching programs offered by Exclusive Career Coaching will help you find a job that uses your zone of genius, recognizes your value, and pays you what you're worth.  If you're ready to take your job search to the next level by working with a highly experienced professional with a track record of client success, schedule a complimentary consult to learn more:  https://calendly.com/lesaedwards/zoom-meetings2

**About The Guest(s):**Rebecca is a successful entrepreneur, author, and speaker. She has overcome a challenging upbringing and has gone on to achieve great success in her career and personal life. Rebecca emphasizes the importance of the family unit and the role of fathers in society. **Summary:**Rebecca and Trevor discuss the significance of the family unit and the role of fathers in society. They highlight the power of having both parents present in a child's life and the importance of structure and strictness in raising children. Rebecca shares her personal journey of overcoming a difficult upbringing and becoming a successful entrepreneur. **Key Takeaways:** The family unit is central to the success of America, and it is essential to value fathers and their role. Boys, in particular, need a male figure in their lives to provide guidance and set boundaries. Structure and strictness are crucial for children's development and should not be undermined. Taking responsibility for your child's upbringing is essential, as a neighborhood or community cannot replace parental involvement. **Quotes:** "The family unit is central to the success of America." "A boy definitely needs a man to say, okay, we're not dealing with that. We're not going to do that today." "Kids need to have structure. They weren't meant to raise themselves." "A neighborhood cannot raise your child. At Confluence 2023, I had the pleasure of leading an all-star panel of visionary thought leaders – holistic psychiatrist Dr. Kelly Brogan, researcher and author Dawn Lester, mystic and somatic facilitator Aubert Bastiat, and host and comedian Robinson Blanchard.  I'm thrilled to share that thought-provoking and inspiring conversation with you today.  We explore how to overcome a victim mentality and reclaim our agency, compassion, connection, and personal freedom. We talk about how there is no such thing as “good” or “bad” – just what is,  going deep on the idea that everything in this world is a “maybe, we'll see.” When we release our ego's grip on us and embrace that mentality, we can find freedom, presence, and joy — knowing that everything is exactly how it's meant to be right now.  We also dive into the dark shadow of activism, how to find forgiveness for those who have harmed us, and why we should focus on spreading love in our own sphere of influence instead of blaming others for our circumstances. Each thoughtful and intuitive guest shares personal stories and insights from their individual paths toward claiming sovereignty. On this episode of the program I’m joined by Zvi Band. Zvi is the cofounder and CEO of Contactually, a leading CRM platform for relationship-oriented businesses, and author of "Success is in Your Sphere." An engineer, developer, entrepreneur, and startup advisor, Zvi has been named a Washingtonian Tech Titan four times. I'm hosting an event on Saturday February 29th, 2020 – the extra day that we get in a leap year – and I'd love for you to join me and a bevy of stellar speakers and great guests. It's called The BIG Ready and I'm holding this event at The Pace - a venue that's located in the first city I lived in when I moved to the west coast, Vancouver, BC, Canada. Early bird and BIG Ticket VIP tickets are now on sale, so visit http://thebigready.com/ (TheBIGReady.com) to get more details and grab your tickets today! This episode is brought to you by my new online course, 30 Days of TimeCrafting. In this program you'll learn all of the basics of the productivity methods I use in my TimeCrafting process that help me define my day, filter my focus, and make every moment matter... for just $5. To learn more about this program, visit https://productivityist.com/fivedollars (productivityist.com/fivedollars). Zvi and I talk about the acronym he uses as his CAPITAL strategy, why you need to aggregate all of your relationships (both personal and professional) in a database, and the need for purpose and process when forging and fostering relationships. Considering that my Monthly Theme for February is Relationships this was the perfect conversation to prime me for the month ahead. I trust you'll get a lot of value out of it as well. Talking Points Zvi shares his origin story (2:49) We talk about the role of consistency when it comes to achieving success in your sphere - and the role of the calendar in that (5:05) This is one of the things Zvi did to execute consistently to help himself over both the short and long term (6:36) Where does someone begin aggregating their relationships? And why aggregate at all? (8:31) Zvi breaks this aggregation down into manageable chunks (10:41) This is why Zvi has many separate email accounts (12:02) Zvi explains how to ensure you are going beyond organizing your relationships... and prioritizing them (17:05) What nuances do you need to watch out for as you gain intelligence around your relationships? What does this intelligence-gathering look like? (18:57) You need to keep this in mind as you forge and foster relationships (22:16) How do you handle the person that connects with you with no real purpose? (25:00) We talk about the importance of boundaries (27:01) Why adding value is of the utmost importance in relationships and why you need to ask how you can do that on an ongoing basis (29:54) How can you make all of this easier to do? (32:36) This is how we can get in our own way during this process (35:48) If you want to start doing what Zvi suggests today, here's the one small action you can do starting now (38:21) Quote "The important thing is that just because these are different people...doesn't mean that the people differ or change in importance. It’s Time to Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable - Episode #223 You read that right—you need to get comfortable being uncomfortable. I recently heard this phrase listening to Jen Sincero’s book “You Are a Badass at Making Money” and found it inspiring. What are you doing in your business that is preventing you from breaking through because you aren’t moving outside of your comfort zone? Listen to this episode of Agent Rise as I break down how to break through your discomfort.  Outline of this great episode [0:30] Doing things that make you uncomfortable [2:40] What makes you uncomfortable? [4:40] Two things to help you overcome the awkward [7:25] How to call your sphere of influence [8:45] What do you say when you have nothing to say? [10:50] Hiring a transaction coordinator [12:50] Get comfortable being uncomfortable in 2020 What makes you uncomfortable?  I often talk about how you need to be playing to your strengths in your business. But always playing to your strengths doesn’t help you grow. Doing things that push you out of your comfort zone will. For many agents, following up with leads is something they hate. Throwing an open house and meeting with people is easy. The conversation is easy. But following up on the lead leaves many agents uncomfortable because it’s awkward. They don’t connect with them the next day and feel like they’ve missed their moment. I don’t want you to let embarrassment or discomfort get in the way of doing what you’re good at. So how do you remove the discomfort? How to remove the “awkward” from the scenario There are two things you need to consider about a potential client: They don’t know there’s an unspoken rule that you’re supposed to follow-up with them immediately. They aren’t sitting there watching their phone waiting for you to call. Most of them don’t even want you to call! You can call them at any time as long as you offer something of value. It could be a grant, a loan program, or their perfect house. If you’re offering what they want, they will not care how long it took you to call. Stop overthinking things! Make the uncomfortable comfortable by removing the parameters you have set. There is no magical timeline that you HAVE to follow.  What to say when you have nothing to say Another common thing agents find uncomfortable is calling their sphere of influence. The friends, family, business owners, clients, etc. that are important to you. You may feel you have nothing to say, so it’s uncomfortable making that call. There are a couple of ways to remedy that. Firstly, you can follow an “A-Z” method. The first week, you call everyone on your contact list under the A’s, then call the B’s the following week and so forth. In this way, you’ll call everyone in your sphere of influence twice in one year. My favorite method is to call your sphere of influence when you put on an event. For example, I enjoy hosting “I love Madison” events. I’ll call up my sphere of influence and invite them. If you host an appreciation event a couple of times a year and invite your sphere of influence, you knock out something that makes you uncomfortable!  Keep listening to hear my advice on some other scenarios that make you uncomfortable, and how to overcome them. Get comfortable being uncomfortable I believe you won’t truly find abundance until you start doing things that make you uncomfortable. Some part of what you excel at will always be a little uncomfortable, right? I want you to make it part of your goals in 2020— What is making you uncomfortable? What can you do to get comfortable being uncomfortable?  Is it something you can let go of? Is it something that makes you nervous, such as launching a YouTube channel or a podcast? I want you to think about what is preventing you from having a breakthrough moment in your business. Then head on over to the Agent Rise Facebook group and let me know—what is making you uncomfortable? Let’s talk about it. Zvi is also the author of Success is in Your Spere. Zvi talks to your host Travis Chappell about the publishing process, what it was like to have a nine-figure buyout, and how to build relationship capital. Episode Highlights:  The two things that led to the creation of Contactually. Zvi started out being very bad at networking and needed proactive CRM. How Zvi decided to attack the real estate space specifically. The big vision of the Contactually team kept them from focusing early on. In leadership, you have to make really hard decisions and know what to say no to. Figure out what markets to serve and what feature sets to delay. How Zvi and his team convinced people that they needed the Contactually software. How to approach the book writing process from start to finish. The top insights people should take away from Zvi’s book Success is in Your Sphere. How to build strategic relationships without losing the personal touch. Little things can go a long way to help you stand out from the crowd and show you care. Who you know is most important but what you know about who you know is also important. How relationships got Zvi through the recession. How to convince someone else of the power of relationships. Set aside time in your life to focus on important business relationships. How to make sure it’s as easy as possible for you to do what you do. Social media is helpful but it causes us to go a mile wide and an inch deep. The importance of thought leadership for companies. Nowadays it’s pretty easy to get anything you need to be built. Don’t try to build the perfect product initially, try to see if people will use it. 3 Key Points: Focus on one market until you feel you’ve nailed that market and then pivot. When you write a book you have to believe in it, it’s not just a marketing tool. Relationships are your most important asset but you need to be strategic in how you nurture them. Many sellers assume that experience makes them good at building valuable relationships, but there's an art to tactically leveraging relationships to land your biggest customers.   Zvi Band is the co-founder and CEO of Contactually, a relationship-oriented CRM designed to help businesses build and maintain relationships with their networks. He was an introvert in college who hardly ever left his room, but that was before he discovered that relationships would be his best asset. He is the author of the book Success is in Your Sphere.   Sharpen your tools   Zvi recognized the need for Contactually because he would connect with people and then lose track of them and miss the opportunity. It wasn't that he was doing a bad job. He was simply so focused on working hard for his existing clients that he lost touch.   To measure the strength of your network, he recommends opening any social media tool and considering whether your network would come to your side if you asked for something simple like $20. Then, if you truly believe your relationships are your most important asset, what are you actually doing to nurture those relationships those won't pay dividends next week but might in the coming months or years?   For most people, the answer is, “Not too much.”   Tactically leverage relationships   The goal should be to build and nurture personal, authentic relationships without any necessary plan or intent. Then, they'll call us when they're ready to buy. Or if we call them, they'll pick up the phone.    The problem is that sometimes, we aren't necessarily sure who is important in our relationships or what our goals are. We must begin by figuring out what we're trying to accomplish. Are you trying to increase the number of referrals? Increase your close rate or your repeat business? Looking for an entirely different job or different career steps?    Clearly identify your goals and then develop everything else to ladder up to those goals.    Always take a step back and ask what you're really trying to do.    Nurture opportunities    If you're going to conferences and meetings, you're likely trying to nurture the opportunities that emerge there. But rather than connecting with everyone there, determine who is there and who you should be working with. For Zvi, that intentional decision shifted who he engaged with when he went to those events.    The worst thing we can do is walk in with a set of business cards and have conversations that will never turn into anything real for either party. Those business cards get lost in the washer and you've wasted time that could have gone to people you could truly serve.    Once you've identified who you want to connect with, develop a cadence to make sure you're staying top of mind. Follow their social media and watch for news about their company. Don't be afraid to tell your connections that you're simply working to stay in touch.    Value and service   Don't assume follow-up is most important. Focus on value and being of service to someone. The best way we can get what we want in life is by helping others get what they want. That way, as soon as the moment comes where your contact needs what you have, he'll immediately think of you.    When Zvi was nurturing sales opportunities with large brokerages, he wasn't necessarily trying to pitch them on the value of software. Understand more about the prospect's business. Work to understand challenges and identify other existing customers who experienced the same issues.    Work to show your prospect that you aren't simply trying to get a dollar. You're trying to build a successful relationship that will ultimately benefit both of you.    “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” -- Zig Ziglar   Technological age   Technology allows us to connect with so many different people, but the problem is that it does the same for everyone else. That means your customers are being flooded with other ideas and messages. We have to find a way to build personal, authentic relationships.    Realize that being a nice guy isn't enough to produce business opportunities for you. People have to know what you're looking for.    Zvi recalls that he was looking for a CPA recently and one of his friends mentioned that a guy they know well was a CPA. Though he knew the guy well, he wasn't aware that he was a CPA. Make sure your audience understands the skills you bring to the table.    Relationships assets   What strategies are you willing to put in place to grow this relationship asset? After all, these assets are just like the dollars in our bank account. We can invest in the asset. It can go up or down. We have to put strategies in place to make sure we're growing that asset.    There was a time when “always be closing” was the mantra. Now, though, our role has switched to a subscription based business so it isn't just about selling. It's about building and nurturing a relationship. Reputation matters and referrals matter.    If a company brings on a customer that won't result in a successful relationship, that's bad for everyone involved. We aren't just trying to get a deal; we're trying to get a partner. #SalesPartner   Capital strategy   The best thing you can do is ensure you have time to build relationships. That can be as simple as blocking time in your calendar to build relationships. You don't respond to email or text during that time. You nurture authentic relationships with people who aren't at the top of your inbox.    Consistent. Establish a strategy and do it regularly.  Aggregated. Collect all your relationships in one place like CRM or spreadsheet. Prioritizing. Identify which relationships are most relevant. Investigate. Gain intelligence into your relationships.  Timely. Make sure you're staying in touch over a certain amount of time. Adding value. Don't simply follow up.  Leverage. Do whatever you can to make it simple.    The CAPITAL strategy ties them all together with a bow. It allows us to understand how all these parts connect together.    Long-term numbers   Avoid the temptation to focus solely on numbers. If you're going to think about them, focus on long-term numbers. Look at touch points and engagement to make sure your reps are staying on value and touching base with clients.    Nurture those relationships to stay top of mind.    Relationships are our most important asset so ask yourself what you could be doing today, tomorrow, or next week to develop that asset.    “Tactically Leveraging Relationships to Land Your Biggest Customers” episode resources    Check out Zvi's book, Success is in Your Sphere and hare it with another relationship professional that would benefit from it. The Development Exponent: A Leadership Perspective

Live or die? Not too long ago our ability to survive directly correlated to our ability to develop relationships with our families and local tribes. In modern times-- and especially in business, our ability to develop relationships can mean the difference between thriving and losing out. We are biologically wired to be social creatures, and so it seems that building networks should come naturally. But, our prehistoric system is able to handle no more than 100 relationships, 50 semi-effectively, and in the last decade the number of accessible people and the ease of connection has increased exponentially. Now you can be in touch with tens of thousands of people. This is a bit more than we are designed to meaningfully manage. To discover the new questions and solutions around business relationship management, Bruce Holoubek, owner of Contracted Leadership, and Host of The Development Exponent Podcast talks to Zvi Band, the Founder of Contactually, a relationship-oriented CRM company. The company grew to eight figures in revenue and to a team of 70 before being acquired. Zvi Band is also the Author of Success is in Your Sphere, a book cataloging his success with Contactually, that also acts as a guide to effectively using the CRM. The primary challenges for maintaining relationships are always, knowing whom to talk to, when to talk to them, and what to say that will show our value, which will allow us to maintain the relationship. But, the fundamental, and often most difficult challenge that we are all faced with is that we are all wired for short term benefits. If we weren't, we would choose to act how “future us” would act; we would eat that salad instead of the burger, we would save that dollar instead of online shop. Likewise, in the business world we are focused on what is immediately in front of us, and on what is going to fill that quota or sale today or tomorrow, not four years from now. It's easy to look backward and say that we received a benefit or job because of someone we knew, but when we have the choice to focus on the immediate or on calling a former client and checking in with them, we choose to deal with urgent matters at hand. This is where technology, such as a CRM system can help set reminders to reach out. When relationships matter to us, it's not just the relationships with our clients. It's the relationships with our teams, employees, partners, and vendors. Companies that successfully execute on relationship management are evident in how their employees and contractors rate them on review sites like Glass Door. Here are some effective ways to win at relationship management with our teams and clients: Part of developing these good relationships among our teams involves humility. If we as leaders allow our ideas and products to be open to review and suggestions from our employees, it will allow our employees to know that they can bring and explore their own ideas without being immediately shut down. Our vulnerability helps foster trust within our organizations. We shouldn't be, “the smartest person in the room.” Boost this by making sure that everyone in the room has a voice, and become a, “yes, and…” culture of people building on each other's ideas. (For reference see the acclaimed book, Yes, And: How Improvisation Reverses "No, But" Thinking and Improves Creativity and Collaboration--Lessons from The Second City ) Finding the right CRM system, like Contextually is imperative, but it is like buying a Chef's knife-- you have to learn how to use it gain from it. Use guides, such as videos, or Zvi Band's book, Success Is in Your Sphere: Leverage the Power of Relationships to Achieve Your Business Goals, on learning the system to have it work best for you. For example, if there is an option to create a drip campaign, have your people think of the most relevant ways to time it and not just go with a standard setting. Set your own strategy. Ultimately, for any connection development we need to start with a strategy. Start with the goal in mind: identify what your goals are for the year. Identify the people who can help you with those goals. Pick up the phone and say, “Hey, I've been thinking about you. Hope all is alright.” Just those words, “hope all is alright,” are all we really want to hear-- to know that somebody cares and we are not alone. Tweet This & LinkedIn That If we as leaders allow our ideas and products to be open to review and suggestions from our employees, it will allow our employees to know that they can bring and explore their own ideas without being immediately shut down. #levelupyourleadership #leadership #contractleaders Our vulnerability helps foster trust within our organizations. Your Sphere of Influence “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with” – Jim Rohn You are the product of your environment. What you were taught in school, what values your parents instilled in you, what economic environment you grew up in, your place of upbringing and hundreds of other things have shaped you into the person you are today. Every event, accomplishment, failure, etc. have made you who you are. That’s what makes you unique. One of the most important factors that influence you is who you surround yourself with. Their thoughts, actions, and mindset will rub off on you, and you’ll eventually become more and more like those other people, as Jim Rohn said. Knowing this, you can begin to look at your own life and see these truths. I’m sure you have some qualities that closely resemble your mom, dad, brother, or sister. Maybe you become more and more like your significant other every day. Maybe that close coworker or business partner is rubbing off on you. Ok, so this may seem obvious and you might be asking what’s my point. Well, if you want to become someone else than you currently are or grow in a certain area, then you have to look around you and see if your current environment and sphere of influence is promoting that growth or not. If you are surrounded by people with a scarcity mindset, you might never break free and live an abundant life, for example. Grow Your Circle It’s important to surround yourself with the right people. People who challenge you to grow, push you out of your comfort zone and make you think in ways you don’t usually. If you want to live a positive life, then seek out positive people. If you want to live an abundant life, then seek out people with an abundance mindset. There are some great ways you can connect with like-minded people. Here are a few ways I’ve found helpful. https://www.meetup.com/ (Meetup Groups) – there are meetup groups for almost anything you can imagine. Book clubs with pogo sticks? Yep, probably so. Look up a meetup group in your local area and meet people there. From real estate investing groups to cycling, running, and outdoor activities, you can find people who are doing what you find interesting. Conferences – conferences are a great way to meet and connect with people who share similar interests with you. Often conferences have a cost, so the people there are serious about the subject. I’ve met many great people at real estate conferences including many of the guests here on the podcast. Mastermind with friends – this is an especially fun one for me. I like to seek out some friends who push me and make me grow and connect with them frequently. Getting a few friends together on a http://zoom.com/ (video chat) and talking about ideas, goals, etc. is a great way to build your own mastermind community. Here’s a little exercise you can do. Simply write down the 5 people you spend the most time with or talk to.  Then look at each person and see if they are a good and positive influence on you. Guard Your Circle Unfortunately, your friends or even family members might not be the best people to let in your sphere of influence. They might mean well, but might not be the best voices or influences for where you want to go. That’s perfectly ok. Think of your sphere of influence as a small group of people who are helping you grow. Not everyone can be in it. It’s important to guard yourself against negativity and limiting beliefs. As harsh as it may sound, there just isn’t any room in your life for those things. Surround yourself with people who push you, make you grow, and encourage you to succeed. In return, be that person for others too. Seek out positivity, growth, abundance mindsets, and challenges. You’ll be surprised how your sphere of influence positively affects your life. As I get older, I'm always looking for ways to create more movement in my body, and today we're talking to the mobility expert: Jen Esquer (AKA Doc Jen). She is the physical therapist who created The Mobility Method, an incredibly successful program that helps people relieve pain, prevent injury, and optimize movement in just 10 minutes a day. Jen believes that, with the right information, everyone has the power to affect change in their body. Unfortunately, she can only work with so many people in person, so she created The Mobility Method to make optimizing your body more accessible – for anyone, anywhere, with almost any budget.   In This Conversation We Cover: [2:30] Jen's trip to Guatemala with Pencils of Promise [5:00] Leaving private practice to create something bigger [7:45] How your sphere of influence helps you grow (or holds you back) [9:00] Getting Insta-famous [15:00] The neurological side of breathwork & how to breathe [22:40] How Jen creates & shares her incredibly high-quality Instagram content [33:50] Collaborating with other creators [38:45] Why Jen decided to create The Mobility Method [43:00] The difference between stretching and activating [48:00] Jen's tips for a successful product launch (and mistakes to avoid) [53:30] Dealing with the challenges of putting yourself out there on the internet (especially as a medical professional) [1:04:30] Jen's struggle with her evening and morning routine   Your Sphere of Influence Like Jen, I decided I didn't want to be physically tied to my business and set out to live a bigger life. I recruited the best minds on the planet to help me maximize every area of my life. Because when you surround yourself with people who are constantly growing, when you see what's possible just around the corner, you are driven to grow and achieve more.   Finding an Audience Online (and Becoming Insta-famous) A few years ago, Jen had a sizeable audience, a few hundred thousand followers – and then she released an educational video that blew up and received over one million views. As a result, Jen gained 40,000 new followers, and she's been continuing to grow ever since. What was the key ingredients to her success? It's not unique, but it is critical: consistency over everything. Since grad school, Jen has been sharing posts about fitness and, gradually, building her following. When she eventually introduced more educational content, consistency was once again what kept bringing in a new audience of people. The viral video wasn't planned, and there was nothing special about it compared to her other educational videos – but because she was consistently creating valuable content, she was creating more opportunities for a home run success.   Jen's Content Creation Process for Instagram In addition to consistency, Jen also creates some of the highest quality content I've ever seen in the wellness space. Here's how she does it: Jen shoots all of the video on her iPhone. She then imports those clips into a video editing app called Splice, which allows her to keep the videos vertical for IG. If she wants to add more effects on top of the video, such as arrows or text to add clarity, she uses Vont. Then Jen finds an appropriate, eye-catching image (usually related to anatomy) and adds her video title and tag (@DocJenFit) onto the image using the app Fonto. Finally, Jen uses the app Pic Stitch to put the photo next to the video, split screen style.   “I think of Instagram like a billboard. If you're not attracting attention in the couple seconds when somebody is scrolling through, then you're going to lose them.” Jen batches this process to create a whole week's worth of videos at once. She generally shoots five at a time, which actually only takes about 30 minutes because each video is only one minute long. Something that may shock the avid Instagrammers out there: Jen gave up on hashtags! She's experimented a lot, and what she's found is that it takes too much time and it has almost no impact on the traction of her videos. However, Jen has had some success with creating her own hashtags (#DocJenFit or #DocJenFlows) and encouraging people to follow them so that they don't miss anything, even if the IG algorithm doesn't surface that video to them. When you break it down, the three most important things for any content on Instagram are creating something immediately eye-catching, sharing something of genuine value, and doing so consistently. Anything else, even the best hashtag game, won't help if you aren't accomplishing those three things.   The Mobility Method The impetus for creating The Mobility Method was actually the viral video that made Jen Insta-famous (in my words). It was about mobility, opening your body up, and stretching, and Jen realized that that's what a lot of people really wanted to see. Plus, Jen is passionate about the importance of mobility for everyone. It's a prerequisite for anyone who wants to re-introduce exercise and training, or those looking to combat chronic pain. If that wasn't enough, Jen did more due diligence: she asked her followers in an Instagram Live and sent out a survey. Overwhelmingly, people said they wanted to see more about mobility.   “You have to be very connected to what you're creating.” Jen also nailed the landing on her product launch, and her first tip for anyone who wants to launch and market their product online is reading this book: Launch: An Internet Millionaire's Secret Formula To Sell Almost Anything Online, Build A Business You Love, And Live The Life Of Your Dreams by Jeff Walker. Walker goes through the sequence of creating the mindset behind the product that you're about to release, strategies for promotion, and building an email list.   Resources: Learn more at docjenfit.com Check out The Mobility Method Connect with Jen on Instagram: @DocJenFit Launch by Jeff Walker Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod Ascension Leadership Academy   I'd love your feedback on the show, and to show my thanks I'm raffling away a ticket to Lewis Howes' next event, every week. The Winding Stairs Freemasonry Podcast | Created by a Freemason for those interested in the Study of Freemasonry and the Art

Bridging the Inner Gap Look Inside Yourself It is sometimes easier to look at circumstances outside ourselves to blame for what happens in our life. But many times the problems in which we find ourselves is a direct result of things that are happening within us. As we continue exploring the podcast series Bridging the Gap, we turn our sights inward after two episodes of looking at circumstances outside of us. We have looked at how a Gap of Expectations and a Gap of Wisdom can interfere with our progress in life. Today we look at our own shortcomings and make a commitment to diligently bridge our Inner Gap to become the ultimate version of ourselves. Among the topics discussed in this episode you will find: Being brought from darkness to light liberates our vision. Circumspection: Symbol: The Circumpunct |Keeping your passions within due bounds. Definition: Thinking carefully about possible risks before doing or saying something. (Merriam Webster) Unwillingness or Wariness to take risk. Prudence (Oxford). Your Sphere of influence Circumpunct: You are the point within the circle. Circumambulation: The act of walking around something. Especially ritualistically. Circumambulation happens in Masonic ritual and practice. Initiation Degree Team Officers as they move through their chairs. Introspection: Look inside yourself. “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” - Aristotle “Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” - C.G. Jung Haggai 1:5-7 Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, "Consider your ways! "You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes." Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Consider your ways! Seeing yourself in others. The Epictetus “When you are offended at any man's fault, turn to yourself and study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger.” - Epictetus, Greek Stoic Philosopher. Retrospection: Looking into the past. Looking at your own past. It doesn't define you.
