A recent story has implied that a coffee shop in Brooklyn refused service to a Jewish man for no reason, sparking protests and claims of "that's how it began in Nazi Germany." The invocation and promotion of this caricature is proof that we are entering the final stage of a repeating cycle. The public is being force fed, for better or worse, antisemitic propaganda about Israelis and Jews while embracing true antisemitism in their demeaning of Arabs (and Islam). The flag of Islam has now been wrapped around the same people that destroyed Germany in the 1920s with drugs, porn, sexual depravity and genital mutilation. Every single thing decent Americans hate is being blamed on Muslims, from grooming children to socialism, despite these things being very "Jewish" in nature. For example, the New York City Mayor is supposed to be a radical Muslim who throws gays off of buildings and yet his team is comprised of Jews and rabbis; he further invested millions into transgender politics while hosting a pride parade. This subversion of the responsible parties can be found with the Roman Empire too, which is always blamed for the death of Jesus, attacks on Christians, and destruction of the Jewish temple. Pol saw a man entering the most authentic and rewarding period of his career, predicting that success would come from embracing who he is today instead of the "New Jersey Bad Boy" persona that first made him famous. The reading also highlighted the deep peace Mike has finally found with his fiancée Heather, along with an unexpected future opportunity that's even bigger than anything he's already accomplished. Naturally, things went completely off the rails as we volunteered to become Mike's "gaybers," debated building an ADU in his backyard, joked about Only Thumbs, and nearly moved ourselves into the house next door in New Jersey. With a little help from filmmaker Ben Wheatley, our 2000 AD obsession kicks into high gear this week. The filmmaker behind such brutally banger movies as Kill List, A Field in England, High-Rise, and this year's Bob Odenkirk actioner, Normal, joins the podcast to discuss his eight-chaptered 2000 AD comic, Judge Dee, which recently wrapped in Prog 2487. Even better, Judge Dee is a sequel to an iconic Judge Dredd story from forty-two years ago, The Haunting of Sector House 9, which encouraged us to dig deep in the franchise's history. It's only fitting that Wheatley layers his 2000 AD tale with a classic, 80s-era cinematic sub-genre, the buddy-cop adventure. It's a little Lethal Weapon, but maybe even more Heart Condition, for those that can recall that complicated (ie problematic) Denzel Washington/Bob Hoskins ghost cop comedy. Ya see, PSI Judge Dee carries a secret. Wherever she travels, she's got a demonic passenger with her, Klato. However, this is not a case of a filmmaker making their way to comics for a little fun. Wheatley is a lifelong Prog reader. It's been his dream to finally scrounge around Mega-City One and add a little lore to this massive universe. Given the opportunity, he knew he wanted to springboard from The Haunting of Sector House 9, pick up where that horror left off, only decades later, and deliver his unique, grotesque, and funky perspective. This week, we're talking Judge Dredd, binary thinking, buddy cops, and surviving the dystopian present with Ben Wheatley. Judge Dee is written by Wheatley, illustrated by Simon Coleby, colored by Jack Davies, and lettered by Simon Bowland.
