Together, they examine how messaging failures, evasive answers, and performative politics are shaping public trust and dominating the headlines. Cohen and Ward also discuss the personalities behind the podium, the media's role in covering it all, and what these repeated missteps reveal about the state of American politics today. This week, we're giving you an inside look at what we cover over on our Patreon—where, if you're caught up on regular episodes and craving more, we dive into additional cases, including some that have already reached a verdict… but still leave questions behind. In this episode, we take you back to 1964 and into one of the most sensational true crime cases in American history—the murder of Jacques Mossler. Set against a backdrop of wealth, power, and high society, this case quickly spirals into something far more shocking. A brutal killing. A forbidden relationship that makes headlines across the nation. And a courtroom battle so filled with scandal that it drew comparisons to the biggest trials in history long before cable news existed. As the story unfolds, what emerges is not just a question of who committed the crime—but whether justice can truly be served when money, influence, and public perception collide. Because even when a case seems to have all the pieces… that doesn't always mean the truth wins. In the spring of 2026, Israel and the United States conducted joint offensive military operations against Iran: coordinating targets, dividing airspace, and operating with a degree of integration that has no precedent in the history of the alliance. The operation significantly degraded Iran's military capabilities, and it marked what many analysts regard as a genuine turning point, not just in the regional balance of power, but in the nature of the American-Israeli relationship itself. For decades, that relationship had been structured as a powerful patron supporting a dependent client. What the Iran war suggested to some observers is that Israel has—at least in part—outgrown that structure. That is the backdrop for a debate that is now live in both Jerusalem and Washington: what should American military aid to Israel look like when the current memorandum of understanding between the two countries expires in 2028? The U.S. currently provides Israel with approximately $3.5 billion annually in grants, earmarked for the purchase of American-made military equipment—an arrangement that dates to the aftermath of the Yom Kippur War and that has been renewed, and periodically enlarged, ever since. For most of that period, the case for the aid seemed self-evident. First the Arab states, and then Iran and its proxies, were actively threatening Israel's existence. American military and diplomatic support was an indispensable buttress of Israel's security. Whether that case remains self-evident today, in the wake of a war that has significantly diminished Iranian capabilities, is now a serious question being debated by Israelis and Americans of good faith, with thoughtful arguments on multiple sides. In this episode, Mosaic's editor Jonathan Silver speaks with a proud Israeli patriot who has been making the case for ending American aid for some time. Raphael BenLevi is a senior fellow at the Misgav Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy, director of the Churchill Program for Statecraft and Security at the Argaman Institute in Jerusalem, a reserve officer in the IDF intelligence branch, and an occasional contributor to Mosaic. He recently published an essay in Foreign Affairs titled "America Should Be Israel's Partner, Not Its Patron." Inspired by one of the most notorious shockumentaries ever made, this modern horror film explores the blurred line between reality and exploitation.   Along the way, the crew breaks down why Dacre Montgomery's generic handsomeness is actually terrifying, explores the hosts and live viewers experiences with the original shocker, and discusses why content moderation is the scariest job in America. Then things get spicy when Rachel brings up the AI-generated Val Kilmer film nobody asked for. “Faces of Death” is a 2026 American horror film and a reimagining of the infamous 1978 film of the same name. From completing a 4x4x48 just months after starting to running across Pennsylvania, Brendan has quickly built a reputation for taking on challenges that push both his body and mind to the edge. But what stands out isn't just the distance. It's the mindset behind it.In this conversation, Brendan talks about why running became more than just a physical outlet. It's something he can fully control in a world where most things aren't. That idea has shaped how he approaches challenges, how he deals with adversity, and how he shows up for others. He also shares how his past experiences and mental health journey influence the way he uses running as a tool, not just for himself, but to create space for others to feel seen and supported. Whether it's running across a state to raise awareness or showing vulnerability online, Brendan is intentional about how he uses his platform. This episode is about choosing discomfort on purpose, understanding why that matters, and exploring how far you can go when you lean into it.Jon and Brendan talk about:starting running because he hated it and what kept him coming backusing running as something you can fully control when life isn'thow pushing physical limits translates into mental resiliencethe role running plays in his mental health and day-to-day happinessdeveloping a deeper “why” through ultramarathons and long effortsrunning across Pennsylvania and using extreme challenges to raise awarenessthe experience of running Double Boston and what it revealedthe contrast between quiet miles and race-day energyhow past experiences shape his approach to discomfort and growthwhy he shares vulnerability and mental health openly onlinewhat draws him to longer and harder challenges like backyard ultrasadvice for anyone who wants to push themselves furtherFollow Brendan: https://www.instagram.com/runswithb?igsh=MXAwM3RoZGNydHdoag==This episode is supported by:Precision Fuel & Hydration - Dial your fueling in this year. Today, we are breaking down PriceSmart, the membership warehouse club operating across Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. I came away from this episode with a new appreciation for how a single retail concept and a single family have shaped the way much of the world shops. When you learn that Sol Price invented the modern club store, influenced Sam Walton, the founders of Home Depot, and the founders of Target, that his Price Club merged with Costco in 1993, and that his grandson now runs a separate company replicating the model across 12 emerging market countries, you start to see PriceSmart not as a mid cap retailer but as the third generation continuation of one of the most important ideas in modern American retail. I am joined by Markus Hansen, portfolio manager at Vontobel Asset Management. We start with Sol Price's founding of Fed Mart in the 1950s and the lineage that runs through Price Club, the Costco merger, and the 1993 spinoff that became today's company. We cover how 40% of operating earnings are locked in upfront each year through membership payments, why the company chooses to own its real estate and run its own logistics, and what happened to its stores when hurricanes hit Jamaica last season. In this episode, we looked at Josiah Strong’s Our Country and the wider Protestant fears that shaped late nineteenth century America, especially anxiety over Catholic immigrants, cities, and the future of the nation. We then connected those ideas to the racialized hatred faced by Italian immigrants, culminating in the 1891 mass lynching in New Orleans, where anti-immigrant prejudice and public violence collided. This was a story about how religion, race, and nationalism fused in American life and helped define who counted as truly American. #HistoryOfThePapacy #AmericanCatholicHistory #JosiahStrong #Nativism #AntiCatholicism #ImmigrationHistory #ItalianAmericanHistory #NewOrleans1891 #ChurchHistory #USHistorySupport the show:Buy me a coffee! https://buymeacoffee.com/historyofthepapacyPatreon: http://patreon.com/historyofthepapacyBuy me a book: http://bit.ly/40ckJ8EHave questions, comments or feedback? After weeks of dry conditions and stress across farm country, we finally got a big rain in West Tennessee and break down what it means for crops, planting progress, and why no-till farming and cover crops may have absolutely saved the day during the heavy rainfall. We also lighten the mood with our Top 5 Fast Food Joints rankings, which quickly turns into the kind of debate only sleep-deprived farmers and cattlemen can have. On the livestock side, cattle prices continue smashing records and breaking through the glass ceiling with no signs of slowing down, and we discuss what's driving the market and whether producers can expect the rally to continue. Things really go off the rails when we talk about the Tennessee highway bee truck wreck that released millions of bees, which somehow leads us into the legendary story of Cocaine Bear in Georgia. And to wrap things up, Bobby Lee shares his famous "3 S's" method for dealing with predators and buzzards messing with cattle. On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, the global and especially American situation is very dark, grave, and worsening daily. Europe has fallen to a jihadi Islamist crusade while unprecedented antisemitism targets Jews walking the streets in the U.S. while every synagogue spends fortunes on security. The Democrat Party no longer offers support to Jews, as it has been taken over and devoured by Islamists and Marxists who are welcome there. Also, the Supreme Court issued a major decision upholding that the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was never intended to allow creation of congressional districts based on race; it aimed instead to end race-based segregation in the South. The ruling reaffirms that districts cannot be drawn with racial intent to discriminate or guarantee outcomes, requiring actual evidence of intent to block minorities' opportunity to elect candidates of their choice rather than mere allegations. Democrats have misused the Act to advance their party by creating race-conscious districts, treating certain racial groups as reliable voters and fearing losses in majority-white areas, contrary to the Act's original colorblind aim. Later, Rep Byron Donalds calls in and reports that Gov Ron DeSantis submitted a new congressional map, which the legislature passed and the governor plans to sign. This is a strong reflection of the Florida's political framework. He also explains that the Democrat Party are a bunch of limousine liberals. They love everything being handed to them, but they do not have an appreciation for the market system and for free enterprise. Passenger Pigeons Once Numbered in the Billions and Blotted Out the Skies for Days. They Went Extinct in 30 Years.

In America’s first hundred years, the animal you were most likely to see was a passenger pigeon. And you saw a lot of them. Flocks were so numerous they literally blotted out the sun for days and their combined weight snapped the branches of entire forests where they roosted. Yet by 1914, the last specimen, a female named Martha, died at the Cincinnati Zoo, marking the complete extinction of what had been North America's most abundant bird numbering in the billions just decades earlier. Early Americans assumed the nation's bird populations were infinite, so market hunters fashioned homemade cannons to blast sleeping ducks by the dozens, "pigeoneers" shipped passenger pigeons by the trainload to city restaurants, and feather hunters shot rare birds worth more than their weight in gold so Gilded Age women could wear plumes in their hats. What followed was an unlikely coalition of bird-lovers like Roosevelt, gunmakers, business titans, and brave game wardens who transformed American conservation. They couldn’t save the passenger pigeon, but they saved other species from extinction, like the Canada Goose and the trumpeter swan. Today's guest is James H. McCommons, author of The Feather Wars: And the Great Crusade to Save America's Birds. We discuss how Roosevelt used executive powers to create the first federal bird refuge at Pelican Island in 1903, why the revolutionary 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act made nearly all wild birds wards of the federal government while inadvertently establishing that federal law supersedes state law, and how conservation success stories including wild turkeys, wood ducks, trumpeter swans, and bald eagles were all brought back from extinction's brink. McCommons also warns that America faces a new crisis reminiscent of the Gilded Age. Since 1970, one in four birds (about 3 billion) in North America have been lost, with backyard species like sparrows, blackbirds, warblers, and finches disappearing as indicator species foreshadowing greater environmental collapse.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This is not just the story of a crime—it's the unraveling of a man who weaponized love, custody, and control against the very people who trusted him most.

In this solo episode, Paul Rieckhoff breaks down the brutal arithmetic: $25 billion spent. 13 American soldiers killed. Hundreds wounded. Oil at $125 a barrel and gas at $4.30 a gallon — up 27 cents in a week. The Strait of Hormuz still not secured. The Iranian regime still in power. The enriched uranium still unaccounted for. After yesterday's testimony from Secretary Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Caine, the spin is gone — and the Pentagon wants $1.5 trillion more. Paul lays out why working Americans are paying the price for a war their leaders can't honestly defend. Paul also takes apart Trump's state dinner for King Charles — 10 American billionaires, six Fox News hosts, zero Democrats — and calls out Trump, Hegseth, and Vance for siding with Putin while Zelensky and Macron call it like it is. There's hope in the mix too: a powerful breakdown of Heidenreich's path from the Naval Academy to a Marine Corps commission to the NFL draft, the kind of leadership that gives this country a future. While the headlines focus on lawsuits, commissions, and industry noise, the deeper issue is what happens when MLS data starts getting held back or fragmented. In this episode, Leigh breaks down why the MLS is not just a listing tool. It is part of the foundation that helps appraisers determine value, banks make lending decisions, and buyers and sellers trust the market. If that data weakens, the impact could reach far beyond real estate agents.   Key takeaways to listen for Why the MLS matters for more than listing exposure How withheld listing data can affect pricing and market transparency The connection between appraisers, lending confidence, and mortgage approvals Why sellers may feel the impact even more than buyers What fragmented housing data could mean for affordability and homeownership   About Leigh Brown Leigh Brown is a keynote speaker, broker, author, and leadership voice helping audiences understand what is really happening in real estate, business, and American property ownership. Rex Heuermann told the therapist working with his family that the dark thoughts started in high school. He knew they weren't healthy. He couldn't name what they were. But he knew something inside him wasn't right. He said he started reading books about death — one in particular called Death Scenes, filled with images of mutilated bodies, severed limbs, pure carnage. That's what was feeding his mind during the years when most teenagers are figuring out who they want to be. For Rex, sex and violence were merging into something that would eventually become unstoppable. He said one thought fed another fed another, deeper and deeper, until it consumed him. He said he couldn't put the brakes on it. He said his outlet was to kill. The Peacock documentary gave the world something no courtroom or police interrogation ever would have produced — extended therapy sessions with one of the most methodical serial killers in American history. Rex described a four-day kill cycle. He timed his body dumps with a stopwatch. He built his kill room in the bedroom where he grew up. And John Douglas — the FBI profiler who wrote Mindhunter, a book Rex himself referenced in his planning document — called him a malignant narcissistic sadistic psychopath and said he believes there are more victims. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins me to dissect what the documentary revealed about Rex Heuermann's psychological development — from the adolescent origins of his violent fantasies to the question Douglas raised that hangs over this entire case: did Rex really stop at eight?Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? [00:30] Humility vs. Vanity (44 minutes) President Donald Trump and other American leaders are blinded by pride and vanity in many of their foreign and domestic policy decisions. George Washington's first inaugural address teaches a profound lesson about humility. [44:30] The Kingdom's Court (11 minutes) The Supreme Court struck down Louisiana's congressional redistricting map, ending gerrymandering to favor racial minorities. Leftist media outlets are calling this ruling “voter suppression,” though gerrymandered district lines have been suppressing Republican votes for years.

One of the practices that I believe is important for the church in America is to regularly evaluate and interrogate the systems we operate by. What can often pass as biblical is actually just business. What we believe to be Christian is actually just American. When we evaluate the systems we are shaped by, we are more prepared to pivot when our systems hurt people. When the efficiency of our churches miss what the Bible calls us to. Is it all bad? Of course not. Is it all broken? Of course not. The church imperfect. We are imperfect. I am far from perfect. But if we don't have the courage to ask questions we can focus more on organizational progress than we do pastoral care. My conversation today is with my good friend Michael Olson. Michael is an author, musician, and worship leader. He's a recording artists. He traveled the world playing drums for Michael W Smith. Over the last 16 years he's led worship at two of the fastest growing churches in America. He's also written a beautiful new memoir called Daddy Set The Church on Fire: A Journey Toward Restoration. At the heart of this book is the reality that Jesus is making all things new. The church is broken. We are broken. This world is broken. But if we have eyes to see, there is redemption all around. This is a conversation for you if you follow Jesus. If you've been hurt by the church. If you haven't been hurt by the church. If you're a worship leader and feel like a cog in an endless machine of efficiency. If you feel broken by the weight of loss and pain. We talk all about it. Topics Covered: Developing a theology of suffering The highs and lows of growing up Pentecostal What we can learn about Spirit and Truth from Eugene Peterson The diversity of the body of Christ within the attractional mega church, reformed church, and Pentecostal church The tension between organizational progress and pastoral care The story behind Michael’s book title, “Daddy Set The Church on Fire” Resources Mentioned: Show Sponsor: Planning Center Michael’s Website Daddy Set The Church on Fire by Michael Charles Olson Songs of Restoration by Michael Charles Olson Show Sponsor: This episode is brought to you by Planning Center, helping you sync all your ministry details across your whole church. Planning Center has become so essential to how I manage a team, that it's almost impossible to consider local church ministry without it anymore. Today, I want to leave you with a PCO pro-tip. Does this sound like a familiar situation? It's the end of the week. You're about to leave the office when you suddenly think: Did all of our volunteers confirm for Sunday? You scroll through the schedule and sure enough—there's a gap. Instead of allowing yourself to spiral into a panic, try this: In Services, Planning Center has gap alerts. Turn them on, and you'll get a heads-up days before service if positions are still unfilled or unconfirmed. No more end of the week scrambling. Speaking of less scrambling, did you know you can access everything you need for rehearsals right from the Service media player on your phone? Lyrics, chord charts, arrangement notes—it's all right there, so you're not hunting for files in the middle of hitting those power chords. For most of the past few decades, North Korea was considered a top challenge for American foreign policy. In the past few years, however, it has mostly receded from attention—not because the U.S. approach to the problem succeeded but because it so completely failed. U.S. policy insisted that North Korea could never become a nuclear power, yet North Korea's program has accelerated year by year, threatening not just American allies, but now the American homeland. U.S. policy aimed to isolate the Kim family's totalitarian regime, yet the North Korean leadership has managed to skillfully navigate the new geopolitics, solidifying its rule and bolstering ties with both China and Russia. The commitment to pursuing nuclear weapons no matter the cost has looked especially savvy in the wake of U.S. attacks on Iran. Victor Cha has long been one of the foremost practitioners and analysts of U.S. policy toward North Korea. In a new essay for Foreign Affairs, he argues that Washington must reckon with this long record of failure and craft a new strategy for managing the North Korea problem, one that gives up for now on denuclearization and tries to achieve what Cha calls a cold peace.  Editor Dan Kurtz-Phelan spoke to Cha on Monday, April 27, about the misjudgments at the heart of U.S. policy; about the nature of the North Korean threat today; and about what a new approach would mean for the United States, for the Korean peninsula, and for Asia more broadly in the years ahead. In this thought-provoking episode, Dr. Leslie Baynes explores the complex relationship between C.S. Lewis and the Bible. While Lewis is widely celebrated for his theological insight and literary brilliance, Baynes' research uncovers a more nuanced reality—one where Lewis occasionally misquotes scripture, relies heavily on memory, and even attributes statements to Jesus that do not appear in the Gospels. Drawing from her book Between Interpretation and Imagination: C.S. Lewis and the Bible, Baynes examines both Lewis's profound contributions and his interpretive missteps, including his famous “liar, lunatic, or Lord” argument.  The episode also tackles the cultural phenomenon of “Saint Lewis,” particularly among American evangelicals, and the resistance to critically evaluating his work. Yet, rather than dismissing Lewis, Baynes advocates for a balanced perspective—appreciating his literary and spiritual impact while engaging his ideas with scholarly rigor. This episode is essential listening for anyone interested in biblical interpretation, theology, and the enduring influence of one of Christianity's most beloved thinkers.
