Born on January 12, 1959, in Halmstad, Sweden, Per Gessle is a celebrated musician, singer, and songwriter, most famously known as one-half of the iconic pop duo Roxette. Alongside Marie Fredriksson, Gessle propelled Roxette to international stardom in the late 1980s and 1990s with an impressive array of hits, including "The Look," "Listen to Your Heart," "It Must Have Been Love," and "Joyride"—all of which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. This achievement helped cement Roxette's status as the second biggest-selling Swedish band of all time, surpassed only by ABBA. Kay Howl first landed on our radar as the driving force behind the South Western Ontario duo The Oh Chays, who also featured Mike Sugar Authier on guitar, percussion and backing vocals. Known for their upbeat and fun songs, powerful vocals and playful stage banter, the duo were finalists in the 2014 Toronto Blues Society Talent Search and represented Toronto Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2015. The Oh Chays may be no more, but the dynamic vocal delivery and fun stage presence lives on as Kay Howl who released her debut album "Pink Trees" earlier this year. "Pink Trees", which was produced with Marty Bak at SLR studios in Windsor ON is a personal and powerful statement - a coming out record, and very much a 'this is who I am' recording. West End performer Siobhan Dillon, who appeared in the Broadway revival of Sunset Boulevard, has released a solo album, Siobhan Dillon—One Voice. Having survived breast cancer, Dillon will donate the proceeds of the album to the U.K. charity Breast Cancer Haven, which provides counseling and support resources for those fighting the illness. One Voice, produced by Steve Anderson, features 11 songs, including Broadway favorites like “She Used to Be Mine” from Waitress and “Without You” from Rent and covers like “It Must Have Been Love.” In addition to playing Betty Schaeffer alongside Glenn Close and Michael Xavier in Sunset Boulevard, Dillon has starred in the West End as Sandy in Grease, Vivienne Kensington in Legally Blonde, and Molly in Ghost The Musical. Buck brings us a story about some research from Facebook’s AI team that is pretty darn well ground breaking in regards to the results being achieved. We are talking about an attempt to formulate a near perfect response to an imperfect problem. When trying to understand the music industry and how things have changed since the boon in the 1990s to the digital evolution today, it’s best to speak with someone who lived through it. Enter Rose Noone. Rose started her career at Island Records in 1990, the year that “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips and “It Must Have Been Love” by Roxette dominated the radio airwaves. For almost 20 years she worked in A&R at leading labels including Island, Epic and then Warner. Throughout her career she signed and worked with acts like Shakira, Nine Inch Nails, Howie Day and Macy Gray. Rose sat down with our host Kenn Richards to discuss her years at the labels to her more recent thoughts on digital marketing and promotion for artists and a discussion on how brand to band partnerships continue to take off.
