January rolls in with big plans and ambitions for the coming year. However, commitment to New Year's resolutions often flags by the end of January. To keep you excited and committed to your goals, we sat down with three of our CERTIFIED Ambassadors, Laurene Klassen, Ashley Faulkner, and Karen Coulombe, to talk about 2025 goals. Laurene is a Microsoft Certified Trainer and Assistant Director of IT Training & Communications at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She took her first Microsoft Office Specialist exam in 2010 for personal development and has been hooked ever since. In 2017, she spearheaded the MOS program at SMU after attending her first CERTIFIED conference. Their program has now certified over 3 5,000 students within 4 years. Laurene oversees the administrative side of their program working with over 15 faculty members to integrate the MOS exams into their curriculum. She frequently teaches Office workshops to students. She is a native of Massachusetts but now calls Texas her home. Ashley is a teacher at Triton High School in North Carolina, where she is a strong certification advocate. Over the past 11 years, Ashley has earned more than 40 certifications—and helped her students earn more than 1,150 individual certifications. She has also served as an FBLA adviser and as the North Carolina Southeast Region advisor. Outside her teaching career, Ashley is the chief financial officer for Simple Web Solutions, Inc., EM Audio, Inc., and Butler Faulkner Enterprise, and she is the mother of two active children. Karen has taught a variety of Career and Technical Education courses at the 8th -12th grade level as well as the Community College since the early 2000's. Her focus is on expanding hands-on and experiential learning in meaningful ways to add valuable "tools" to the students' toolbox, building confidence and a resume of tangible skills to market in the workplace. Karen has seen certifications used to enhance resumes for those who need to get right to work; as well as to differentiate students working towards competitive internships, scholarships, and college programs. The most significant connection from certification to the real world is understanding how to work to achieve goals using the resources available. Before teaching, Karen worked for over a decade as an Avionics Technician with Boeing, DynCorp Aerospace and the US Air Force on programs including Air Force 1, the B2 Bomber, and multiple F-16 deployments abroad. In this episode, we discuss these three veteran educators' approach to setting goals, how you can decide where to focus your efforts, and how you can keep yourself motivated. If you want to expand your vision for 2025 goal setting, these ladies have the advice and ideas you need. Martin's guest is Andrew Good, CEO of Liberty Grove Software from Canada. Andrew is an engineer, project manager, analyst, manufacturing expert, and Microsoft Certified Trainer. His extensive knowledge and background have been built from personal experiences with many companies, working in various operational and management roles. Projects have ranged from new implementations to streamlining business operations. 21 years of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV experience mean that he can fall back on many different perspectives when working with customers. He has helped clients get the most out of their Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central/NAV systems through integrations, upgrades, and extensions that allow them to deal with their changing business environments, regardless of whether financial operations, rentals, distribution, and manufacturing. Being asked whether providing the master data that are so essential for a functioning planning process also means fun to him, Andrew admitted that, overall, from an organization's perspective, it is a painful process. Nevertheless, as he pointed out, the dividends that are paid to the organizations are huge both in the short and long term because, in the end, they are rewarded by getting a single system that provides them with trustworthy financial, inventory, and manufacturing information. And according to Andrew, the process of providing and maintaining master data is an ongoing one. The system needs to remain trustworthy and stable also after go-live, and for this, the data must be kept in good shape continuously. Depending on the organizations' size, there are a variety of techniques at hand for this.Martin then brought up the claim "Transform your business with human-friendly solutions to power progress" that he read on Andrew's website when preparing for the podcast and that he would like to investigate further. Starting with the "transform your business" part, Andrew outlined that when you look at the transformation necessity for the manufacturing companies, it is not primarily related to their "direct processes", meaning everything connected to manufacturing, but mainly concerns all their indirect processes, like engineering, purchase, finance, etc. where the day-to-day work can be significantly streamlined and improved to make people more efficient. Andrew sees a second area of transformation opportunity in leveraging the already massive data that are available in the organizations by using tools like Power BI to provide insights into how the factory is run. Of course, this also will impact production itself because Power BI can also be used to monitor real-time production data, thus finding out if production is running to its quote, finding fundamental issues with a certain part, etc.Discussing the "human-friendly solution" part of the claim, Andrew stressed that he is no fan of productivity initiatives being introduced by top-down directives. Not including the experience and opinions of all staff members will generate a lot of resentment and resistance to those initiatives. Andrew advocates for a more collaborative approach where also the view and the voices of the "direct" people in the project count. According to Andrew, it is always key to get people on the shop floor involved.Regarding the third part of the claim, "to power progress", Martin wanted to know whether and how Andrew measures and documents the progress his customers make. Andrew related that he encourages his customers to gather and analyze data and examine how it changes over time. They should also keep track of the activities having been executed during the same period to see the impact of these changes. He is a firm believer in constant measuring, monitoring, and then acting based on the monitoring. The typical metrics that get tracked in manufacturing companies, of course, depend on the companies' focus.

All businesses require a CRM solution if they are to manage their relationships with clients, customers and prospects as effectively as possible. True CRM facilitates a 360 view of interactions between members of your organisation and your client/prospect's organisation. Recording these interactions means that you can operate as a team and are not reliant on memory. As well as recording interactions, true CRM will hold key information about your clients, customers and prospects, which helps you understand these people, helps you analyse them and understand where your business is most successful. Although true CRM usually does include a technology platform, it does not have to - especially in a smaller /micro business. CRM can also automate certain repetitive tasks, which both saves valuable time and removes variation. Successful implementation of a CRM solution is simple, but not easy. Successful CRM implementation requires an understanding of the business, the methodology of successful implementation and the selected technology. Gill Walker has been helping organisations with their CRM for over 30 years - since CRM was a business card holder or old notebooks with client information locked in the top drawer for safekeeping - unless you were from ‘the big end of town? Gill has remained dedicated to Microsoft CRM and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for the past 20 years - since 1.0 beta! She has earned several Microsoft awards, including the coveted MB-600 - Dynamics 365 Power Platform Solution Architect. Gill has been a Microsoft Certified Trainer since 2006. Additionally, Gill was named #Thinkers360 as one of the top 50 global thought leaders & influencers in CRM. She was a 2021 ARN WIICTA & Innovations finalist, and a ROAR Awards, finalist. Data engineering is one of the most involved, dull, and repetitive tasks in the data industry today. Bringing up the subject is a sure way to instantly clear the room at a party or make your friends groan in despair. The work includes a lot of complicated tools, many, many lines of code, and a not-insignificant amount of gnashing of teeth. But what if I told you there is a way to quickly, easily, and cheaply do both data engineering and data exploration on most data without even having to import it into a database? What if I told you that Azure Synapse has a just about magical tool that can instantly connect to flat files and make them available as nice, well-behaved tables? I'm talking about Azure Synapse serverless pools, a great tool for both initial exploration and surprisingly complex data engineering. I'll walk you through what it is, how to set it up, and give you a few examples of basic data exploration, as well as a tad more complex data engineering. Today we have Mark Owens who was able to quit his day job in the early 2000s leveraging his rental portfolio which eventually grew to over 100 units including some mod-sized apartment buildings. He has also wholesaled about 200 deals. Mark Owens began his investment career in 2002 in Baltimore, Maryland. At that time he was a Microsoft Certified Trainer teaching upper level computer classes in colleges all over Maryland. Within a few short years he was able to leave the job and focus on growing his rental portfolio. Since then he has acquired over 100 rental units including some mid-size apartment buildings, wholesaled close to 200 deals and done a few retail flips. Mark has figured out a way to run his business around his life- not the other way around. He spends much of his free time coaching, speaking, hiking, scuba diving, and flying planes.Episode Highlights:- Buy rentals and build your passive income. As soon as the market slows down the first people to suffer are wholesalers because deal flow will stop. - Whenever the economy enters a recession Mark has been able to raise rents and benefit as people in Class A neighborhoods move to Class B and B moves to C and C wants to stay in C, creating more demand for Class C properties.- Don't live beyond your means. If your real estate business hits a rough patch and income dries up for a little while, you need to have capital to weather that period. The first people that go out of business are the ones that did not defer gratification, and spend all excess cash on doo-dads like jet skis and expensive cars.- Always set up your business so that you can work from the beach using a cell phone and laptop. Do this by putting together a boots-on-the-ground team of contractors to manage your properties.- The most important key to succeeding in any real estate business is to build a strong network and solid reputation. Without one or the other, you won't get very far.Helpful Links:https://markowens.com/https://www.facebook.com/groups/420244028368348/Best Way to Contact Mark:mark@markowens.com

My guest on this episode of Suds & Search is Joe Laratro, President at Tandem Interactive, a boutique digital marketing agency based in Hollywood, Florida that specializes in SEO and PPC. Joe's agency recently celebrated their 15th anniversary. Tandem Interactive has received several accolades including winning the US Search Award for best small agency in 2018. What I find most fascinating about Joe is that in addition to being an agency owner, he's always doing a bunch of other things within the search industry. He is the lead moderator and serves on the board of the popular conference series Pubcon. He's a Microsoft Certified Trainer and he teaches a course on digital marketing at the University of San Francisco. Joe is also the former president of the South Florida Interactive Marketing Association. I'm going to start our conversation talking about Pubcon and the myriad ways that the conference circuit has been upended during the COVID pandemic. We'll discuss Pubcon's newer approach to conferences focused on specific topics like ecommerce and local. Joe's agency works with small businesses that have recently become eligible for Local Service Ads, a newer ad format from Google that usually appears at the top of the SERP with a label saying “Google Guaranteed.” Joe and I talk a little bit about this opportunity for SMBs and I'll also pick his brain on providing search marketing services for franchise businesses. Grab something cold to drink and join me for a conversation with Joe Laratro. We talk all about agency life, whether or not virtual conferences are here to stay, and we'll spend a little time talking about deep sea fishing. Which lead me on a 6-year adventure of traveling the United States of America. 1991 was the year I stopped hiking and met the first of my 2 wives Anna. We both did plenty of drugs together but she was able to stop I was not. On one of my binges I pushed her out the door in an effort to get her to go get me more money from the ATM. She tripped after my push and hit her face on the concrete floor shattering 12 teeth and breaking her jaw in 2 places. And yes, I went to jail on that charge but subsequently leading me to AVP. (anger management). Anna married me anyway after going through AVP with me and we both became facilitators. At the European SharePoint Conference in May 2014 in Barcelona, Jeremy Thake was part of a developer panel hosted by Rodrigo Pinto alongside Chris O’Brien, Radi Atanassov, Adis Jugo, Thorsten Hans, and Matthias Einig. Rodrigo came with a series of question to grill the panel with and the guys didn’t disappoint! The discussion started with how developers should embrace the change in the Office 365 App Model and learning new skills such as JavaScript. It moved on to some of the challenges panel members faced when first hitting the App Model and then on to which building blocks can be taken advantage of in your business solutions. At the European SharePoint Conference in May 2014 in Barcelona, Jeremy Thake caught up with Radi Atanassov about why OAuth is important to developers in the new App Model. In SharePoint 2013, the OAuth authentication and authorization flow for apps involves a series of interactions between your app, SharePoint 2013, the authorization server, and the end user at runtime. The authorization server in this scenario is Windows Azure Access Control Service (ACS).
