Leveling Up: Creating Everything From Nothing with Natalie Jill
In this episode, you will learn: What chemicals you should be avoiding in your beauty products Why natural herbs and remedies are the way to go Specific remedies for those in mid-life How much your body obsorbs through the skin Why patience is key when you change your products Tara Mackey, who has a science background in epigenetics, left a coveted position at Weill Cornell Medical College in 2011 to travel to California to explore natural healing, yoga and meditation. That same year she began utilizing holistic techniques to heal her chronic illnesses, going cold turkey off of fourteen daily medications, and healing herself naturally. She has been Rx-drug free for over a decade and has been on a conscious quest to move humanity in a more sustainable, healthy, and holistic direction ever since. Genetix was born simply: Tara shared a DIY blog post about a natural breast enhancement oil that she invented for herself. She shared the one-of-a-kind recipe, and her impressive before and after photos. After just three months of use, Mackey had gained two cup sizes! Readers began to use this magic solution on themselves, and e-mails poured in that said: not only did the oil work, but that if Tara made the serum available as a product, they'd buy it! And buy it they have! A handful of years, thousands of testimonials, and hundreds of before and after photos later, and we can confidently say that Mackey's magic oil works on not just her, but any women who earnestly tries it! Since then, Tara has released other organic creations based on struggles she's had as a woman: whether it be hormonal acne, nursing support or a belly oil she invented during her pregnancy. Mackey is now the founder and CEO of The Organic Life, a successful holistic and sustainable living platform, and is a widely recognized activist with a tribe of over 1 million followers on her blog and social media. She is the #1 best-selling author of Cured by Nature and WILD Habits. Tara has recently launched her own original music, and taken her motivational speaking and music career worldwide. She has been a featured guest at many events, podcasts, blogs, TV, news and radio shows. Mackey was named “an accomplished musician” by Forbes and “a powerful voice in the smart, sexy, sustainable movement” by Coco Eco Magazine. Tara's been recognized with numerous awards and nominations for her activism and entrepreneurship by giants like Oprah Magazine, Teen Vogue, Women's Health, ABC, CBS, the United States Senate and many more. She resides in San Diego, California with her son, Z.

Trigger Warning: Suicide Our next guest has been a long time coming… today we have my good friend Tara Mackey on the podcast! Tara is the CEO of “The Organic Life,” founder of “Genetix,” Author of Cured By Nature and Wild Habits, a musician, a scientist, and then her most important job – a solo mother. She's on the journey of always pursing her interests and using her knowledge to help others. But like so many of us, all of this came with trials and tribulations. At a young age, Tara witnessed her mother overdose twice, was adopted by her grandparent, then soon started to be prescribed several different medications. Resulting her to be on 14 different drugs at one point. After a major life event in her 20s, Tara decided it was time to gain control back over her life, and quit cold turkey on all her medications. So today, we cover · How this is Tara's first interview in over 2 years due to the birth of her son. · Growing up and witnessing her mom overdose two times by the age of 6, and the moment her grandparents swooped in and adopted her. · Remembering every single detail about her childhood, being grateful that it happened, but not wanting that life for her son or any child for that matter. · Finding forgiveness after starting therapy at the age of 13. · The reason she started being prescribed medicinal drugs and how it got to the point where she was on 14 all at once. · Why she decided to quick her medication cold turkey and how she almost died. · Working as a scientist in a 9-5 where she didn't feel fulfilled. · Losing her best friend to suicide at the age of 24 causing her to shift the way things were going in her life. · Turning to her God given gifts to bring not only joy to herself, but also others.· Her own suicide attempt and recognizing she wasn't ready to die. · Her blog “The Organic Life” and how that turned into a book deal. · Creating a DIY breast oil and then launching her company “Genetix” from it. · Her proudest accomplishment. · If she still thinks medicine is important. I feel so thankful for Tara's vulnerability. She has a beautiful soul and I'm lucky to call her my friend. Want to keep up with Tara? Follow her on Instagram! A creative journey. A deeper devotion. A surrender experiment…to the creative process with no agenda. The gift of presence rather than attachment to any outcome. The month of Feb I have created a personal container called DAYS OF DEVOTION.I am doing it as a personal devotion to self … and inviting you along with me.Not because I “need” to - simply because life is calling me here…to lead deeper, to love deeper, to serve deeper. My intention is simply to deepen into practice. The safety in the container is set to explore what is present without any story + attachments — just presence and a surrender.Let this real time creative process be a radial permission slip to just show up… as yourself… and let it be (more than) enough.True love has no agendaTrue service has no agenda True creation has no agenda It's just like “hey I'm here to love you … we get to grow higher, devote deeper and serve each other greater…”It's like… the mystery of life is real and the way is revealed here

James Oseland is a multi-award winning writer, former editor-in-chief of the American food magazines Saveur and Rodale's Organic Life, and one of the most hailed arbiters of the international food world. His first cookbook, Cradle of Flavor, about the cuisines of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, earned him his first James Beard award. Jim has also been a filmmaker, actor, and fashion and music journalist, and his memoir Jimmy Neurosis is a vivid and heartfelt recollection of his early gay punk days. Jim's latest project, a series of books, World Food published by Ten Speed Press/Penguin, reflects his passionate curiosity about cultures and his ability not only to enjoy food but also to connect with the people who make it. On the heels of the publication of World Food: Mexico City and the eve of the publication of World Food: Paris (October), Jim chats with Spice Bags about far flung places like Greece, Queens and Jakarta. What are his thoughts about writing, research, and respectful cultural appropriation? Where would he send someone in his recently adopted home of Mexico City? (It's not a fancy restaurant.) Finally, he brings us back to one of his favorite places, which is the kitchen, and the process of chronicling the people who inhabit it. Travelers, writers, eaters and readers: take some tips from James Oseland! We certainly have. ** We recorded this episode remotely with James Oseland in Mexico City, so forgive the occasional, three-second delay. Żyjemy w czasach zmiany. Transformacja, której wszyscy doświadczamy nie dotyczy jedynie świata zewnętrznego, naszego otoczenia i środowiska. To też Twój okres wewnętrznych przemian. Stąd zainteresowanie ajurwedyjskim, holistycznym podejściem do zdrowia. Emergency Care Of Open Wounds/When It Hurts by Indigo Calmly rinse the wound with copious amounts of cold tap water. This will significantly reduce the possibilities of infection. If available, use clean linen applied firmly against the wound to inhibit bleeding. If the pressure is not adequate, do it again. Another method allows the bottom of a stainless steel saucepan to be applied to the wound. The cold of the pan reduces swelling as well as bleeding. A poultice of mandrake berries can be of great use also, until further care can be offered. Emergency Care Of Wounds That Cannot Been Seen Hold the victim gently. Rock in the manner of a quiet sea. Hum softly from your heart. Repeat the victim's name with love. Offer a brew of red sunflower to cleanse the victim's blood & spirit. Fasting & silence for a time refurbish the victim's awareness of her capacity to nourish & heal herself. New associations should be made with caution, more caring for herself. Sassafras, Cypress and Indigo, Ntozake Shange Where do the healing practices and wisdom of our ancestors live in your body? How do you access them, claim them, reanimate them? For some of us that will look like activating personal practices that may only be extended to ourselves and our families. For others, it may look like a practice that is offered to the community to assist others who's way of activating their healing is through connecting with you. They are healers who become a facilitator, mentor and guides to access health and well being for our bodies, minds and spirits. They hold the identities of student, apprentice, teacher, master teacher and see their journey as a practitioner as ever evolving, dynamic and sacred. Karen Rose is a healer. In this episode, we explore the healing journey of Karen Rose. Trained in Eastern and Western Herbal Medicine, Master Herbalist, Karen M. Rose created an outlet for her teachings and healing modalities with the opening of Brooklyn-based Sacred Vibes Healing and Sacred Vibes Apothecary in 2002. Her inspiration for this work began as a child in her native home of Guyana, where she was exposed to how African, Caribbean and Latin American traditions profoundly influenced plant medicine and community healing. The legacy of these lands is the foundation of Karen’s spiritual and healing practice. Karen and her work have been featured in a variety of media outlets, including on The FEED, featuring culinary celebrity Marcus Samuelsson, the New York Times, Black Enterprise Magazine, Organic Life, and the New York Daily News. His interests extend to a larger universe of material culture including vernacular architecture, contemporary quilts and quilt making, food histories, and contemporary art by "self-taught" makers. His food writing has appeared in Saveur, Gravy, Organic Life and Southern Cultures. During the COVID-19 driven school closures, we have four priorities guiding our work: Our four priorities in this evolving pandemic crisis: Priority one - feed our families and children Priority two - account for the extended safety, health, and welfare of our 4500 students and staff Priority three - communicate clearly Priority four - e-Learning As part of the Governor’s order, he announced that all schools in Illinois will remain closed, with a new tentative reopening date of April 8. On March 12, I ordered all schools in North Shore School District 112 closed until further notice, with a possible reopening date of April 14, this is still our tentative plan. We recognize that this development of the stay at home order may raise questions about the impact on students, staff, and families as well as the school’s vital role of providing meals to students and families while schools are closed. Thanks to the outstanding work of the Moraine Township Food Pantry (and countless volunteers) our children will be fed this week during spring break. District 112 foodservice partner Organic Life will resume meal preparation and distribution operations on 3/30/2020. In this podcast episode, we review what we're doing with respect to preparation, communication, and transition to Remote Learning (priority 4).

Why do we cease to teach through the medium of verse? In children we happily sing songs and tell stories to convey moral tales and even astronomy, math, and economics. We know how effective this is in teaching young children ("My Very Evil Mother Just Swatted Uncle's Nose" -- for the planets) and yet why not teach the theory of evolution in metre and rhyme?Great poets, in fact, do teach in this manner. In this very simple ballad, Wordsworth conveys a complex theoretical proposition from Erasmus Darwin's Zoonomia: The Laws of Organic Life."

Food labels and claims have become more confusing and vague, especially when it comes to animal products. When we spend more money to make an ethical choice, we think we’re voting with our dollars, but potentially we’re not making the impact we really think we are due to confusing terms and a lack of government oversight. Organizations like A Greener World have taken things in their hands and have created labeling and labeling resources to help you get the food you intended to buy. About Emily Moose As Director of Communications and Outreach for A Greener World, Emily Moose leads the nonprofit’s outreach team, guiding communications, serving farmers and consumers and developing new programs and initiatives--including AGW’s labeling support, volunteer and membership programs. She’s a co-editor of Food Labels Exposed, AGW’s definitive guide to food labels, and has been featured in numerous conferences, publications and media outlets including Rodale’s Organic Life, Civil Eats and NPR. Each program is designed to have positive and measurable impacts on the environment, society and animals, and to encourage truly sustainable farming practices. AGW’s standards and procedures are robust, transparent and achievable. I brought Tara on the show because I admire her so much for her ability to not wait for permission, not wait to jump through the red tape, and just simply own her power and the things that light her up without any connections, without any record deal. Part of what she does is she's a musician, she's a beautiful artist. Rather than waiting for a record deal to start creating music and filling her soul's desire, she just went for it and I admire her so much. In this episode we talk about the ability to unlearn the things you thought you were so you can recreate yourself. And this is something I talk about often on the Hungry for Happiness podcast. The way she described it is so beautiful, given her background, her childhood. She's one of those people where you're like. “Wow, you have truly created a remarkable life.” And I wanted to bring her on the show to really inspire you to give yourself permission to say, “Hey! I can recreate the narrative and be who I want to be NOW. ” About Tara Mackey Tara Mackey is the founder and CEO of The Organic Life, a successful holistic and sustainable living platform, and is a widely recognized activist with a tribe of over 1 million followers on her blog and social media. Tara Mackey is the founder and CEO of The Organic Life, a successful holistic and sustainable living platform, and is a widely recognized social media personality. She founded the organic beauty company Genetix Skincare and is the #1 best-selling author of Cured by Nature and WILD Habits. Tara has quite a story. She was born with drugs in her body, and her mother overdosed in front of her time and time again before Tara was even four years old. At age 13, Tara was taken to a psychiatrist for an "evaluation" that lasted about 5 minutes, and resulted in a prescription for a drug called "Lithium". This was just the beginning of Tara's life in a haze of pharmaceutical pills: by age 24, she was taking 14 different prescription drugs and had reached the point of suicide. Thankfully, Tara survived. She is here now to tell you the story of how she successfully quit all drugs, how she healed her chronic illnesses, and what helped her change her habits and her lifestyle. Tara Mackey is a human behavior expert, award-winning CEO and biologist. She has a following and over a million readers in her blog, The Organic Life and social media. In her book WILD Habits, she brings you transformational healing techniques, showing you how to achieve complete body and mind restoration, by using her highly developed four-step WILD Method. I had the privilege to talk with Tara and I resonate with her idea that our choices empower us. We can choose to own our choices and we can be W.I.L.D. to achieve success in life. Curious what W.I.L.D is? Tara says that "W is you have the willingness to recognize what is not working and you have the Intuition to understand the next step is what would work for you and what would actually help your life. And L stands for love, you need to have the love to actually implement the AHA moment. Like this isn't working, this it what will work - now what would I do that is a self loving decision? And D stands for discipline. I need to have the discipline to do those 3 steps over and over again until it becomes a new habit. And once it becomes a new habit, it is now automatically a part of your life and is becoming who you truly really are. Listen to the latest episode “HOW BEING W.I.L.D. CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE” WITH TARA MACKEY and learn steps in unlocking your potential to maximize your life and make it happen. Here are some clips that you will find interesting: "We do ourselves a disservice by letting our family history kind of dictate what we feel like we can become. " "The more we give in to what we really wanted as a kid and just practice it the more we get clarity on what we're really here to do." "I want everybody to just know that anything is possible and like we're not broken. And we're not these things we've been told we are. And like we can become anything… anything. Tara Mackey has a fascinating story full of peaks and valleys, shifting between periods of abject suffering and astounding success. Today, Tara is standing atop a shining peak: she is the CEO + Founder of The Organic Life, the CEO + Founder of Genetix Skincare, a soul singer, and the #1 best-selling author of “Cured by Nature” and “WILD Habits.” But, as most good stories unfortunately do, it all began in a pretty dark valley. Tara was born with drugs in her body – very literally – and into a home filled with abuse and… well, more drugs. She didn’t fall into using hard drugs, but she was isolated and depressed and struggling to cope with her mother’s addiction. Tara’s grandparents brought her to a psychiatrist and, within 10 minutes, she had her first diagnosis and her first prescription – Lithium. The first of many. By the time Tara was 24, she was on 14 different prescription drugs – then she reached her breaking point. Tara successfully quit all 14 prescriptions cold turkey (which she doesn’t recommend) and started healing her chronic illnesses holistically, a move that drastically changed her life. Now Tara is turning these tragedies into her greatest gifts, converting her suffering into compassion like an emotional alchemist. Tara replaced her addiction with WILDhabits, healing herself from the inside out – and if that works for a body going in and out of the hospital on a monthly basis due to drug complications, can you imagine what it will do for yours? – Luke Topics Discussed In This Episode: Being born a crack baby Detoxing Reading Tony Robbins as a seven-year-old Why addiction is a family disease, affecting everyone around you Codependence Controlling what you can control (and letting the universe take care of everything else) Why we usually keep repeating the same patterns until some pain forces us to make a change Superficial, outward honesty VS being honest with yourself The overmedication of children Pain & trauma getting misdiagnosed as mental illness The difference between fact and opinion “Shitty life disorder” Diagnosing problems as disorders Negative drug interactions that put Tara in the hospital on a monthly basis, for years Why Tara doesn’t recommend quitting cold turkey Controlling your relationship with other people Why interior design is so powerful Embracing chiropractors The WILD method: Willingness, Intuition, Love, & Discipline Using your story to make the world a better place More about this episode. I am in awe when it comes to the resilience of the human spirit and body, and today’s guest, Tara Mackey, just reaffirms my belief. With a tumultuous childhood that lead to a drug prescription at the young age of 13 subsequent prescriptions thereafter, it’s not surprising that Tara once came close to ending her own life. However, seven years ago, she finally realized that the help she sought didn’t come in an orange bottle or from the people who she’d allowed into her life. She knew the drugs (and diagnoses) were holding her back and as a result, she quit all 14 drugs cold-turkey (she doesn’t advise this method) and hasn’t looked back since. Tara now takes pride in educating others to get off drugs and even more in helping people recognize what’s holding them back and then guiding them to create new habits that propel them forward. I resonate so deeply with Tara’s message as she also truly believes that we all are put on this planet with a purpose. And once we’re able to pinpoint the habits that are holding us back we can then create replacement habits and finally tap into our own intuition and purpose. Tara’s new book, “WILD Habits,” even walks you through the steps to do just that. I think everyone will relate on some level to this episode and I can’t wait to hear all of the takeaways from this episode and her soon-to-be-released book. -- Question Highlights: What do you do now and how did you get started on that path? At what point did your intuition start talking to you and tell you to do something different? What were some of the most influential experiences in your life that got you to those moments? Can you explain what you mean when you say “numb?” What do you share with people around what it really looks like when you step into the journey of your purpose? Growing up, were there influences in your life that sparked a feeling of purpose and reminded you of who you were? What were some of your labels and how did you get over them? Do you have any labels now that have come with success that hold you up to some expectation? How do we change out our habits and what does that look like? How do we begin to make the space to follow the WILD Method steps? What was your focus for energy in your book? Do you believe everyone on the planet has a purpose? In This Episode We Talk about: How Tara got off drugs and now helps educate people to do the same How Tara helps people recognize what’s holding them back and then create new habits that propel them forward Why harmful habits are all distractions from your true purpose The importance of recognizing what you’re using to numb out Labels How drugs impact your labels and your behavior Why it’s OK to change and grow all the time Tara’s WILD Method Listening to your intuition The mind/body connection The importance of movement What toxicity in all forms looks like Why it’s important to step away from judgment and criticism How social media distracts us from our true purpose Figuring out what to put your energy toward And so much more… Quotes “I wanted help but help hadn’t come in the form of orange bottles or the people that I had let in.” “We numb because we’re afraid of living up to our full potential.” “Focus on adding up the moments that bring us joy because that brings us closer to who we truly are.” “People will know you as whatever you do in that moment.” “It’s not weird that you’re changing and growing all the time.” “If you’re not moving your body other things get stagnant.” “Become more conscious of why you’re doing what you’re doing.” -- Tara Mackey is the best-selling author of Cured by Nature, a soul singer and global motivational speaker. Leah sits down with Linda Lehmusvirta, the producer of KLRU’s Central Texas Gardener, to find out what goes on behind the scenes of this long-running, award-winning public television show. Linda’s been producing CTG since the beginning, in the 1980s, when it began as a live call-in show. Viewership has now expanded beyond its namesake region, as CTG now airs weekly on PBS stations from Amarillo to Corpus Christi, and from Myrtle Beach to Tucson. Over the years, Linda has filmed hundreds of gardens, interviewed countless locals, and embarked on a personal garden education of trial and error. Hear about the history of CTG and the many myths and misconceptions Linda’s encountered along the way. Also: How to retain a sense of humor when foul weather, downed limbs, or busted pipes destroy your best-laid garden plans. Leah is teaching a free class, “Urban Permaculture for Austinites,” on Saturday, May 12 at 10am at The Natural Gardener. Visit naturalgardeneraustin.com for more details. Here is Linda’s article in Organic Life magazine that she mentions in the episode. With over 7,900 subscribers & 940,366 views she’s a true internet sensation! I asked her in the pre-interview if she was a science major because she really goes into detail as to the whys and specifics not just how you do things and the reasons behind it with very thorough explanations! Tell us a little about yourself. So I’m a wife and a mom, I have a couple of kids that I homeschool. I also have a mostly work from home job, as a rental manager. 14 years ago I spent a year at a local community college studying plant and greenhouse sciences, which is also known as horticulture which gave me a good foundation. house on a tenth of an acre started a little urban homestead few years ago, I decided to start a youtube blog and it’s also been tons of fun. I was also telling another guest this morning, that a lot of my listeners have been reaching out to me from urban gardeners so I think they will like this as well. (https://mikesgreengarden.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/new-born-baby-goats.jpg) Tell me about your first gardening experience? I did grow up in Colorado. My very first gardening experience was a long time ago. I was in an elementary school. My mom cut open a cantaloupe and my brother and I were really curious if the seeds would grow? My brother and I got an old wooden ice cream bucket, strained out some rocks from the soil we planted the seeds in there and they actually grew! It was exciting to have something that would actually grow! But we were renters and so I had a neighbor thru some spark plugs, and it killed it and it actually didn’t work out so bad because it really gave me a dream to be a home owner someday! I mean even at that young age. And from the beginning I’ve always really enjoyed repurposing things, and saving some things and just aspiring to be a sustainable gardener! That gave me a dream and a goal and the motivation and get what I really wanted out of life! I’m so happy to be a homeowner now! And Have a space of our own! And a space to grow a garden! Being a home owner is just really nice isn’t it to have a place that’s your own? It is! What does organic gardening/earth friendly mean to you? Beyond just the regular regulations, that the stuff that you grow has to be non-GMO, and pesticide and herbicide and chemical fertizlier free. For me it’s far beyond that, it’s really about a healthy lifestyle, not just for me and my family. But just to good for the environment and helping to take care of our planet, it’s such a beautiful place to live and I feel a social responsibility I realize that the choices we make affect everybody! that’s water everybody I want to be more part of the solution then part of the problem. To promote a healthy lifestyle and organically garden? I was asking some people what category my podcast should be in on iTunes because its in games and hobbies and that just doesn’t seem right to me. So they asked me and I said it was more of a lifestyle. And Rodale’s just changed their magazine from Organic Gardening to Organic Life (http://www.rodalesorganiclife.com) . Also when I just interviewed AERO (http://www.aeromt.org) was an opportunity for people to live their values… and I think you are a great example of that.I love the way you are teaching people and sharing that on YouTube! Excellent! Who or what inspired you to start using organic techniques? That’s what first started it off Back in ’08 I lost my grandma, my mom’s mom to breast cancer. Then in ’09 I lost my other grandmother, they linked it back to her picking it up in the hospital. That’s when it hit home, I can’t just take my health for granted, if we’re not diligent about our health and taking it into our... Support this podcast

First Name Last Name Email Cell # (1+area code) --------------------------------------------------------------- Listener Q&A: Now offering free 1 month membership to Ben's Body Transformation Club to the best questions! aneonekread23 asks via Twitter: @bengreenfield any thoughts on TRX? Darrell asks: I am 45 and exercise to keep fit. I do a powerlifting workout 1 or 2 times a week. All of my workouts are early in the morning. By late afternoon on those power workout days, I have a significant mood change. I become short tempered and prone to overreact. Is there something metabolic that can cause this type of reaction? Are there any general recommendations for tuning my diet to avoid these mood swings? Erik asks: "I recently suffered muscle strains to what I believe is the upper hamstring or where it attaches near the gluteus. What is the best way to recover without losing fitness and minimizing recovery time?" In my response to Erik, I outlined my Wolverine recovery manual, and mention my USAT Injury Recovery webinar (you can scroll through the .PDF file below) Gabriela asks: I would like to know your opinion regarding the intake of Whey Protein and L-Carnitine for women? Richard asks: My wife was doing a cleanse through bioletics. She lost 25 lbs over 2 months but has hit a plateau. Her calorie intake is about 1000 per day. She also just started exercising. This coincides with her plateau. She also feels her time of the month impacts her loss. I am interested in your thoughts. chunkybearcub asks via Twitter: @bengreenfield what do you think about feraheme injections for exercise induced anemia? Justin calls in and asks: 1. What do you think about balance ball chairs for work? 2. Is there an optimal time to take vitamins? I take Peter Gillham's Organic Life vitamins after dinner with fish oil and my stomach is always growling at me at when I am in bed. I take them at night because they have to stay in the fridge, which I don't have access to at work. Christian asks: I noticed that I race significantly faster at long distances if I lift heavy weights during my taper weeks. Why? Aaron asks: My best friend and I just experienced what is known as "pine mouth". We purchased a bag of pine nuts to throw on our salads. A few days after consumption we were experiencing a hard to describe taste in our mouths. The metallic, alkaline, bitter taste hit us both at the back of the mouth at the back of our tongues. The taste came on strongest just seconds after chewing and swallowing. The taste lasted one week after only eating the nuts at one meal. Can you help explain what is going on here? Jen asks: I have been using your Shape21 program. I have lost 10 lbs in three weeks and run 1min/mile faster. The only problem I'm having is blood in my urine. My urologist cannot see anything wrong. I guess this happens with running. I have had this problem before with marathon training. However it seems to be more frequent and I am running much lower mileage. Can the supplements make me more susceptible to this? Anyone else mention this to you? Perhaps it the weight training. I'm not too worried just curious. Rob asks: In an earlier podcast, you addressed aspartic acid/aspartate and included some general caution about aspartate. I would appreciate it if you would please explain more about its function, effect and dosage in supplements, specifically in Lean Factor. Jessi asks: Have you ever discussed the best way to streamline the way in which you take them? I know you're not a "supplement whore" as I think you've dubbed it, and I'm no "slut for supplements," but I still find it difficult to organize the few that I do take into daily/twice daily doses. Should I line everything up for a week's worth of doses? If so, do you put the supplements in baggies? pill containers? your pockets?! You get the idea. Or do you just dip into the bottles from where the supplements originally came? Nicki asks: Can't seem to get any faster swimming. I did my first IM swim…did it in 1:07…and typically average about 1:35-1:40/100 m….is there a point where you can only be so fast swimming? Had stroke analyzed, got some personal coaching, but just can't seem to swim faster. Do you have a question for Ben? What's with all the media hype over the latest must-have electronic device, the iPhone? This week on Skepticality, Derek and Swoopy talk to Rob Walch, host of the Today in iPhone podcast, about the cult of Apple's newest release and ask whether if it lives up to the hype. While it seems most humans on Earth are busy looking for iPhones, the National Academy of Sciences has published a report that states we need to start looking for alien life with novel biochemistries. Fraser Cain and Dr. Pamela Gay, hosts of the Astronomy Cast, help Derek and Swoopy interpret the new report "The Limits of Organic Life in Planetary Systems", and what it means for the search for life in the universe.
