Remember Ethan, the gay prep school kid Jack met on the train back from Boston? He's returned home again for Capefest, an ill-defined free music festival that seems to be mainly about camping on the beach. Though Jack is apparently not a fan of popular music, he is easily convinced to come hang out, making Jen come as backup. Also attending? Henry, a veggie burger-grilling, Bruce Springsteen-covering renaissance man who has absolutely no interest in Jen and her inconsistent attempts at platonic friendship. Nikki has embedded herself in the Capeside High film department, getting the extremely offscreen Mr. Jordan to break all the rules of equipment loans so she can use it to work on her latest project. When Dawson decides to take his righteous indignation to her house, it backfires into an invitation for dinner from the adorably proud Principal Green, and exposure to her bedroom and values causes Dawson to experience a crisis of...well, interior design. Andie has decided to volunteer as Assistant Director on the school production of Barefoot In The Park, partly as a distraction from her feelings about her breakup with Pacey, but her plans go to hell when she finds out the English teacher directing the play has recruited Pacey specially to be his male lead. What if we told you that, before Power BI, most of the money spent on data projects didn't go where you thought it did? In this episode, Rob Collie and Justin Mannhardt peel back the layers of inefficiency, miscommunication, and just plain bad luck that have haunted data projects for decades. Spoiler: it's not all doom and gloom. Some of those old headaches are finally getting the boot, thanks to tools like Power BI and the rise of generative AI. Rob and Justin take an honest look at how data projects have changed over the years, sharing hard-earned lessons and surprising insights from their time in the trenches. They reflect on the glacial pace of old-school BI, how Power BI changed the game, and why AI might be the next big shift. If you've ever wondered why your pre-Power BI data project cost more than a new car, this episode has the answers (and maybe a little therapy). For more information about Istrouma, go to istrouma.org or contact us at info@istrouma.org. We glorify God by making disciples of all nations. ========== Connection Card https://istrouma.org/myinfo September 1, 2024 - Matt Cate ‭‭Acts‬ ‭21‬:‭3‬-‭26‬‬ After sighting Cyprus and passing to the south of it, we sailed on to Syria. We landed at Tyre, where our ship was to unload its cargo. We sought out the disciples there and stayed with them seven days. Through the Spirit they urged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem. When it was time to leave, we left and continued on our way. All of them, including wives and children, accompanied us out of the city, and there on the beach we knelt to pray. After saying goodbye to each other, we went aboard the ship, and they returned home. We continued our voyage from Tyre and landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and sisters and stayed with them for a day. Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven. He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied. After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. Coming over to us, he took Paul's belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.' ” When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, “The Lord's will be done.” After this, we started on our way up to Jerusalem. Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and brought us to the home of Mnason, where we were to stay. He was a man from Cyprus and one of the early disciples. When we arrived at Jerusalem, the brothers and sisters received us warmly. The next day Paul and the rest of us went to see James, and all the elders were present. Paul greeted them and reported in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul: “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law. They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or live according to our customs. What shall we do? They will certainly hear that you have come, so do what we tell you. There are four men with us who have made a vow. Take these men, join in their purification rites and pay their expenses, so that they can have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know there is no truth in these reports about you, but that you yourself are living in obedience to the law. As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they should abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality.” The next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the days of purification would end and the offering would be made for each of them. 1. Paul had COURAGE in the CONVICTIONS that the Holy Spirit moved in him. (20:22-23) 2. There will always be others who DON'T UNDERSTAND your convictions. a. First in TYRE (21:4) b. Then in CAESAREA, where Agabus provides VISUAL AIDS. (21:10-12) 3. The PURPOSE of his CONVICTIONS: a. To REPORT to James and the elders what GOD HAD DONE among the GENTILES. (21:20) b. To give the OFFERING from the Gentile belivers. 4. Paul demonstrates "ALL THINGS TO ALL PEOPLE" mentality. (1 Cor. 9:19-23) ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭19‬-‭23‬‬ Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. Out of sight out of mind is probably one of the best descriptions of ADHD. We need important items and reminders in front of us and it needs to capture our attention. So that's what we're going to talk about today. Why visual cues for busy adults with ADHD can be a game changer. Well many of us have challenges with short term memory, visual cues and aids can help us tremendously. Dave talks with Sara Olsher, the founder of Mighty and Bright, an organization that creates very useful products to help people with visual structure. Sara talks about founding Mighty and Bright, her personal story and why she decided to build this business. Dave and Sara discuss visual cues and why they can be highly effective for those of us with different brains. Remember out of sight, out of mind. They also discuss why from many busy adults with ADHD, important reminders as well as physical items sometimes need to be in our face. Sara discusses what makes a great visual aid including those around the house. And Dave and Sara talk about some of the important ways that visual aids can help busy adults with ADHD including task initiation, completing tasks and projects, aiding in our challenges with short term memory as well as reducing overwhelm. Sara talks about the more popular charts that her business offers and why they are popular. You can find out more about Sara's story and her visual aids here: https://mightyandbright.com/ **Do you want to work with Dave one-on-one? We pick up with Dawson and Joey where we left off in the S01 finale: they kissed! They like each other! They're going to talk about it a bunch, misusing a lot of five-dollar words in the process! But...what does this mean? Are they immediately boyfriend-girlfriend? Is sex on the table? Is Jen going to be weird about it -- that is, when she's not being weird about Grams doing a bad job mourning Gramps? Pacey has a literal run-in (of the automotive kind) with Andie, a new transplant from Rhode Island; after he poses as a cop to freak her out, she sees him at school and extends their relationship via Pacey's latest crush, Kristy Livingstone (Ali Larter!). And Mitch and Gale are still on the rockzzzzzz..... No need to pucker up for our podcast on "The Kiss"! JOIN THE AWT CLUB

Larry Stanton Estate - Arthur Lambert

We meet Arthur Lambert from the Estate of artist LARRY STANTON (1947-1984).Larry Stanton was a Manhattan-based portrait artist whose work was championed by David Hockney, Henry Geldzahler, Ellsworth Kelly and others. He was a gay man who lived in Greenwich Village in New York City. Stanton produced a significant body of work—mostly drawings and paintings—in the four years leading up to his death from AIDS-related complications. Stanton drew portraits of the young men he slept with, as well as his friends and family. Many of Stanton's subjects were other gay men who died in the 80s from AIDS, and his brightly colored faces sketched quickly in crayon and colored pencil stand as an archive of lives lost. Lambert inherited all of Stanton's work after he died.We discuss the new book, edited by Italian theatre director Fabio Cherstich and Stanton's lover Arthur Lambert titled Larry Stanton: Think of Me When It Thunders. A tribute to yet another artist that died before they could leave their mark and is the definitive publication on Stanton's art and life to date. It includes 139 artworks, many of them portraits of the boys he met on nightly outings, as well as friends and family and a large collection of self- portraits, plus previously unpublished archive imagery of Stanton's circle. With texts by Cherstich, Lambert, Hockney, Geldzahler, and more, it's part artbook, part personal history, a round-up of the faces and names that formed Stanton's world.Since meeting Cherstich, the two have founded the Estate of Larry Stanton to bring renewed attention to Stanton's art. A collection was recently on display at Daniel Cooney Gallery, while Acne Studios has presented an exhibition of works and objects featuring Stanton's drawings in Milan, Seoul, Tokyo and New York in Feb 2023.‘The portraitist is an observer of people; his attitudes and feelings will be reflected in his observations, and usually the interest in personality makes one study faces. Other aspects of personality show in the body—posture, ways of moving, etc.—but most is revealed in the face. People make their own faces, and Larry knew this instinctively'.—David Hockney'Larry Stanton lived and painted in Manhattan until he died of AIDS at the age of 37. In Greenwich Village, he was a familiar sight, starting his practice every day in the early afternoon, drinking coffee at the same spot while balancing his sketchbook and drawing someone who caught his eye. His studio developed into a gathering place for artists and writers and they became subjects for his portraits. In the late '70s and early '80s, NYC was a magnet for boys who were escaping from homes and places where being gay was not accepted. Many of these boys became models for Larry. His work provides a telling picture of faces from a segment of NYC life which shortly disappeared with the advent of AIDS, an epidemic that annihilated so many of these faces, including Larry's own.' Coop has not only taken Michael up on his invitation to join the medical practice -- he brings in a contractor to start talking about knocking down walls before he's even met Peter! Who by the way isn't thrilled to have this development sprung on him. Michael has MANY problems other than his business partner's rage: Megan gets him to enter couples' therapy, where they are challenged not to lie to each other for 48 whole hours. And: Taylor's plan to get artificially inseminated goes off the rails due to a problem at the sperm bank. Wherever will she find more sperm before she's done ovulating?! Peter also has some other plots cooking: after Amanda mentioned in passing that she might want to start her own new ad agency, Peter's enlisted Billy to come up with a prospectus, and believes that if he can just give Amanda the money to get it off the ground, she'll fall in love with him again for sure. Not thrilled with this plan: Sam, who is worried about what Craig will do if he suffers another huge loss. And she's not alone. For obvious reasons, Amanda is trying to void the lease that Taylor signed with Matt; for equally obvious reasons, she's annoyed that Kyle doesn't seem to care where Taylor lives or what she does. Then Amanda overhears Peter yelling at Taylor about her pregnancy, and tells Kyle about it. And when Kyle asks Taylor about it, she says that not only is it true...but that Kyle must be the father because Peter is sterile. Obviously, Peter is not thrilled that this rumor about him is going around the complex, until Taylor tells him that they can use this lie to break up Kyle and Amanda and reunite with their original partners. Coop has arranged for his extremely offscreen fancy surgeon friend to operate on Michael's hands; Jennifer uses this potentially dangerous moment in Michael's life to manipulate Megan into spending time with him again. It's lucky for Coop that everyone's too self-involved to notice how much attention he is paying to everything anyone says about Michael in his presence. Craig is still raw from the loss of Sydney, though not so raw that he isn't still going to the office of his new fake company to half-ass his job. Not even Jennifer's grief-inspired sexual surrogacy can get him back on track, so -- mere days after they all left and collapsed D&D -- Amanda's former employees would like her to perform a hostile takeover of Sky High and hire them all back, please. And who knows: Craig might even appreciate that too, if it gives him more time to plot against Sam. Rejoice: we're flying in with our podcast on "The Trojan Stork"!  JOIN THE AWT CLUB

Wilshire Memorial has always been a flashpoint for drama, and that has never been more true than in our Season 6 premiere. Peter is still in Carmel, sorting out his feelings about Taylor's pregnancy and making a huge decision. Michael is entering into a devil's bargain with Jennifer, so that she'll convince her new roomie Megan not to turn against Michael. Matt has decided to do his residency at a teaching hospital in San Francisco, where Michael conveniently has a hookup. And Dr. Brett Cooper relocates from Cleveland to Los Angeles, apparently for the sole purpose of avenging Kimberly's death. Then there's the fallout from the Season 5 finale car crash: a couple of people are dead (one no one will mourn, and one we ALL will), and a lot of feelings are hurt. Kyle and Amanda have managed not to screw things up between them in the 12 hours or so they've spent boning all over her apartment, but now she has to go to New York and turn down that other job in person, because she got the hookup from her old mentor, who does NOT react well to the news that Amanda's ditching him in favor of another dude back home.
