We have discussed a lot about kinesiotaping on these podcasts and this past week we were doing a lot of taping for clients who have never experienced the magic to taping and we spent a. lot of time teaching the basics. Listen along as we discuss the basics of kinesiotaping.
We have been using kinesiotape since the 80s and on animals since around 2012. We initially tried to use human kinesiotape on animals but could not get it to stay on longer than a few minutes. Rocktape came out with a tape they called H2O and it was for triathletes so it would stay on underwater. This is how we knew it would be perfect for animals and it was. Knowing the basics is essential for getting the desired results. Listen along to how kinesiotape can aid in the recovery and health of your animals.

Hey Rainbow Soul
Knowing when to tape is key for producing desired results. We get asked all the time how to tape "x". X being some body part. There is a lot more to that like evaluation of the area in question, what type of injury has occurred, can motion be restored at this time or is there too much inflammation. Tape is an adjunct to your technique. Do what you do first and then you will know when, how and what to tape.

This week we take a look brief look at kinesiology & applied kinesiology (Banana testing as Bill calls it) and then take a deep dive into the magic tape known as Kinesio tape. There is a whopping 1100+ studies on this tape on PubMed so plenty to look at. The problem is the lack of quality. We've done our best to find the best quality data we can to ensure you aren't being led astray. We want you to think of this statement. "Marketing over medicine". This stuff has been around since the 70s yet only became mainstream after exposure at the 2012 London Olympics. If it was so amazing why did it take so long to appear? Let's find out. DRA, the separation of the abdominal muscles most often associated in women with pregnancy, is very close to my heart and I am so excited to bring you this AMAZING conversation on the research on #exercise for #diastasisrecti with David Larson @dmlarson31 dmlarson@asu.edu Aside from discussing what research we do have , the drawbacks of this limited data, and the physiology behind the effects of adequate load on connective tissue, he talks about his research into patient satisfaction with exercise programs. Just because as professionals we think someone is better, doesn't mean they feel that way. Bio from Arizona State University website: (see below for reference list) David is a Lecturer and Coordinator for CHS100/300 in the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University. David earned a Doctoral degree in Health Science from A. T. Still University, Masters degree in Kinesiology from A. T. Still University, and a Bachelors degree Kinesiology from Arizona State University. His research is primarily focused on conservative treatment modalities such as abdominal strength training for the postpartum condition diastasis recti. David is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a Certified Pre- and Postnatal Coach (CPPC), and Certified Level 2 Nutrition Coach through Precision Nutrition (PN2). Victoria Sekely was a varsity tennis player at Georgetown where she got her undergraduate degree in human sciences. She then went to New York University and earned her doctorate in physical therapy. She's a USATF-certified running coach, certified Kinesio Taping practitioner, and received her certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength & Conditioning Association. In this episode of the podcast, we're discussing a variety of weaknesses that are common in runners and how to address them: A history of repeated and chronic injuries No strength training or a lack of strength An inability to run higher mileage Poor technique With races cancelled for the foreseeable future, now is the time to put in the real work of improving (instead of racing). Focus on training, identify your weak areas, and make your comeback to racing stronger than ever. Kate London is the founder and owner of London Recover Institute in Geneva, IL. London Recovery is a multi-therapy clinic focused on getting to the root cause of pain. Unlike most Massage Therapy Kate believes that her role is to peel back the layers to get the systems of the body communicating again. Including the Gut, the Immune System, the Nervous System, and the Muscles and Joints Systems. She explained to us that the body is not making mistakes and because of that therapists have to be cautions and thorough in finding out what the true causes of pain are. Generally, she finds that the patterns and muscles that don't have pain are actually the cause of the pain and need to be addressed. Anytime you do something to the body expect that something else is being undone. Always a push and pull effect so pay attention. She encouraged us to look carefully for a therapist interested in looking from head to toe and not quick to do the same “massage or treatment” on each person. Many times, clients and patients are not ready for treatment because they are too wired with anxiety or emotional imbalance and that needs to handled first. Healing discs that she recommends are adhesives that change the energetic output of the damaged tissues. In fact, they have the ability to lower the energy of the body's inflammatory and communication systems so that the tissue can be at rest. Kinesiotaping is a big part of her practice and she recommended it to us for the following reasons Inflammatory help due to its pre stretched state that causes osmosis below the skin for healing fluids Slight stability properties Input to the brain from the skin receptors can lower the pain “sensation” YouTube has great videos on self-taping and tape can be bought at the local stores Kate encouraged those in pain to find therapists who also have kinesiology degrees or physical therapy backgrounds including applied kinesiology. Multiple tools also help including the discs and the taping. Call and ask about the therapist's experience and styles before committing to care. Kate's website is www.londonrecoveryinstitute.com Her email is kate@londonrecoveryinstitute.com
I first met Alex at one of my Shamanic Breathwork sessions, after she came over and offered me a free treatment with her at her clinic. I loved her energy and went a few days later, and was blown away by the way she worked with my body. She not only has too many university diplomas and degrees with 17 years experience in the field of scientific bodywork - she is a certified physiotherapist, a licensed osteopath, an expert in myofascial induction (and more); she is also profoundly spiritual and gifted with healing hands. In this podcast we talk about what its like to grown up with two nationalities, and bridging the gap between family life in two different cultures. I find it I find it ubiquitous that she now has grown to embody a bridge between two other worlds: science - and spirituality. We talk about pain, as a teacher, and the importance of finding the origin and not just take pills to kill the symptom. We also talk about energy work, what its like giving so much of your energy to others and working with people who are suffering. Since Alex came into my life, I have sent her many of my friends, team mates and yogis and everyone has been amazed at her skills. She has also become a true friend, and I am so excited she agreed to shine her light on this podcast. Please see below for an abbreviated list of her many studies: 2002 – 2005: Physiotherapy – San Pablo CEU University, Madrid. 2006 – 2007: Expert in Lymphatic Drainage, European University of Madrid, CEES. A hair-dresser seeks relief of severe back pain from spine specialist, Dr. Anthony Galante to avoid back surgery. Dr. Galante graduated from National University of Health Sciences in 1992, is certified in Cox Technique Flexion/Distraction, author of The Sciatic Survival Guide and is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. Dr. Galante grew up with back pain. His mother suffered with it, his father had stenosis and arthritis, his grandfather had 2 low back surgeries (neither surgery helped), several aunts and uncles have dealt with back pain, with it being so prevalent in his family it wasn't a big surprise that Dr. Galante found himself in a chiropractor's office at the tender age of 17. You see, Dr. Galante had a history of low back pain going back to middle school! For years the nagging pain was there, but it wasn't until a hard hit in a hockey game landed the good doctor on his hip that the back really flared up! Suffering with back pain on and off during his 20's, he found traditional chiropractic techniques were not relieving the pain and it continued into his early 30's. This caused Dr. Galante to search for a solution. And he found one. The Cox Technique relieved Dr. Galante's back pain for the first time in 2 YEARS! Currently, Dr. Galante uses numerous treatments to improve his patient's quality of life. In addition to the Cox Technique, he utilizes Manipulation, Physical Therapy, Super Pulsed Laser, Whole Body Standing Vibration, Rebuilder Therapy, Orthotic Therapy, TENS units, Diet and Nutritional Counseling, Kinesiotaping and Massage Therapy. Dr. Galante lives in Algonquin with his wife and two children. Resources: Dr. Galante's website 224-829-0339 Find a Back Doctor The Back Doctors Podcast website
