New Hampshire Unscripted talks with the performance arts movers and shakers

Franklin Footlight Theatre showed up to chat about their upcoming production of SPAMALOT. We had actors, an assistant director, a choreographer, one person just hanging out and taking pictures (I'm looking at you Olivia Martenson!). And talked about classic Monty Python gags, laughs, audience expectations, crappy accents (except my Inspector Clouseau French one was spot on), and thanks to Hayley de Sousa we even (gingerly) threw in some info on their NEXT show TWISTED. SPAMALOT has all of the characters that you would expect including King Arthur, Lancelot (the homicidally brave), Lady of the Lake (complete with Laker Girls), Sir Robin (the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot), Sir Galahad, Sir Bedevere, Patsy, Prince Herbert, Concorde and many more. I'm breakin' a sweat just typing it all!! Show dates and tickets: Aug 1-4 at the Hamilton Hall, Tilton School.

SPAMALOT is a Camelot spoof and is absolutely hilarious for those that don't know and we talked about it all. The show is filled with classic MP gags and routines and we discussed as much of them as we could. There was even an accent challenge at one point with yours truly failing miserably! The show has all of the characters that you would expect including King Arthur, Lancelot (the homicidally brave), Lady of the Lake (complete with Laker Girls), Sir Robin (the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot), Sir Galahad, Sir Bedevere, Patsy, Prince Herbert, Concorde and many more. After last night's come-from-behind win against Section 8AAA rival Bemidji, the Lakers have won five straight games and have all but locked up the #2 seed in the Section 8AAA playoffs (They beat projected #1 seed Alexandria on February 16th...). Other Sports Wrap Recap topics include the return of Stephen Weatherly to the Vikings locker room to add some defensive line depth, Kevin Garnett is no longer in the running to purchase the Minnesota Timberwolves from Glen Taylor, and reports say Gerson Rosas has his eyes set on Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon as a potential trade target before the March 25th deadline. In the second half, Zeke is joined by Giles Ferrell of Zone Coverage and 10K Rinks to discuss the Wild's upcoming two-game series with Arizona, process what this team looks like with Alex Stalock now in Edmonton, and some potential pros and cons with the Zach Parise healthy scratch against Vegas on Wednesday night.

The Major Indoor Soccer League’s rocket red ball bounces back our way this week for an Eighties-style rewind into the story of the Los Angeles Lazers – as seen through the eyes of one of its chief front office architects, Ronnie Weinstein. Claimed from dormancy (as the previous Philadelphia Fever) by LA sports baron Dr. Jerry Buss – owner of the 1980 NBA champion Lakers, NHL Kings, 1981 TeamTennis champion Strings, and the building that housed them, Inglewood’s “Fabulous” Forum – the Lazers began life in the MISL in the fall of 1982 under the direction of Weinstein and Buss’ eldest son Johnny. True to its name (and emblematic of the league’s over-the-top promotional zeitgeist), the team immediately became known for its cutting-edge pre-game laser light shows, which management felt ideally suited to the lightning-fast pace of indoor soccer – and hoped would help the Lazers stand out from the wealth of entertainment options available in Southern California. Weinstein, Buss & Co. also tapped heavily into the celebrity-driven energy associated with their “Showtime”-era Laker arena mates, borrowing the Paula Abdul-choreographed Laker Girls to become the “Lazer Girls” for their games – and regularly recruiting Hollywood A-listers like James Caan, Neil Diamond, Cher, Ricky Schroeder, and elder Buss poker mate Gabe Kaplan to the festivities.  But the white-hot Lakers, the rising Kings, a robust concert schedule, and the family-favorite Strings all took scheduling precedence over the Lazers, leaving only a hodgepodge of mostly weekday winter school nights from which to attract soccer-mad families to the Forum. Of course, there was high-scoring MISL soccer action – but the Lazers were not very good (an 8-40 inaugural record and just one winning [1987-88] season over the team’s run didn’t help) – and the majority of games were not well-attended (the league’s least-drawing franchise in five of its seven seasons).  Despite all the synergies – including Jerry Buss’ strong enthusiasm for the game itself – nothing seemed to work.  By 1987 (with son Jim now helming the team alongside Weinstein), Buss saw the Lazers and the league as doomed – unless moves to reduce player salaries and shift play to a more family-friendly summer schedule were embraced. After fruitless pleading with the MISL Board of Governors, Buss pulled the plug on the team after the 1988-89 season, telling Weinstein if he ever wanted to pursue another indoor soccer endeavor with his more prudent business model, he’d be there to back it. This week’s episode is sponsored by the Red Lightning Books imprint of Indiana University Press – who offer our listeners a FREE CHAPTER of pioneering sportswriter Diana K. Shah’s new memoir A Farewell to Arms, Legs and Jockstraps!

Intro: Minutes 0 to 11:00 This is our last episode until February 3rd and we’re sorry! We need a break for the holidays and all the awards shows which are coming out in January! On February 11th, the day after the Oscars, we’ll have a filler episode, but we’ll be back all of February and into the spring. Last week was tough for us and it feels like it the holidays came super fast this year. I just saw A Beautiful Day in The Neighborhood, which wasn’t what I was expecting but I loved it. Chandra loved Won’t You Be My Neighbor, last year’s documentary about Mr. Rogers which got snubbed at the Oscars. I also really am enjoying The Mandalorian, which is better than I expected. I’m about halfway through The Irishman. I like it ok but it’s really long. Chandra is watching Dublin Murders, which my mom loves too. They have similar taste in shows. She’s also watching Prodigal Son, which is stupid but she likes police procedurals so she’s sticking with it. You can listen below! Justin Timberlake apologized to Jessica Biel: Minutes 11:00 to 15:20 Justin Timberlake issued a public apology to Jessica Biel two weeks after he was photographed holding hands with his costar, Alisha Wainwright. That was on November 22 and on December 5th he wrote a long message to Instagram saying sorry. Then we heard that Jessica told Justin to apologize. After that we got a story in People with sourced quotes like “Jessica believes he didn’t cheat on her,” and “She’ll never break up her family over something like this.” We totally forgot about that story before the apology because it wasn’t surprising at all if Justin cheated on Jessica. There were so many rumors that he stepped out on her before they got married. We remember Justin and Jessica’s People Magazine cover for their wedding and his Instagram post for her pregnancy, which were all about Justin. Royals: Minutes 15:20 to 18:30 About a month ago, in Episode 36, we talked about the fact that Princess Beatrice hadn’t set a wedding date yet. That’s still true. She got engaged at the end of September and she’s having an engagement party this week, but the venue and date have changed. There’s still no word on the date for her wedding, which won’t have a carriage ride and will be low key due to her father ruining everything for her. Chandra mentions that it’s unusual for royals not to set a date this late. Duchess Kate went to a diplomatic reception in velvet McQueen. She was wearing a giant tiara with her hair up and had a giant diamond statement necklace and earrings. It was so classic and gorgeous. I was seriously jealous and just want to know what it’s like to wear that many diamonds. Chandra thought the shoulders of that dress looked perfect and balanced perfectly with her accessories. Golden Globe and SAG Nominations: Minutes 18:30 to 24:00 This week the Golden Globe and SAG Nominations came out, with lots of love for The Irishman, Marriage Story and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which could end up the safe pick for Oscar voters. People love the Korean film Parasite, which is only the second foreign language movie to be nominated for best ensemble at SAGs. Game of Thrones got shut out at the Globes except for a nomination for Kit Harington, but they did get a best ensemble nomination at SAGs. Irishman is not that interesting to me as it runs really long and Chandra mentions that, like Ford vs. Ferrari, it’s a dad movie in that it’s easy for guys to watch, it’s about gangsters and has all their favorite actors in it. I mention the criticism of Marriage Story that it’s like every acting class where students have to yell at each other. Chandra brings up the whitewashing of Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s relationship, which likely started when Noah was married to Jennifer Jason Leigh. Lizzo showed her ass and made it about empowerment: Minutes 24:00 to 27:50 Lizzo was courtside at the Lakers vs. Timberwolves game in LA. She wore a dress with the ass cut out and she had on fishnets and a thong underneath. Then she twerked in that dress to her song Juice when the Laker Girls were performing to it. In response she recorded a video to her stories in which she tried to make it about empowerment. Chandra thinks both things can be true, it can be body positive and that Lizzo has every right to have her ass hanging out, but that it’s over the top too. Lizzo’s response is similar to Lena Dunham in that she’s manufacturing controversy so that she can act indignant and issue a statement about it. Chandra thinks there’s somewhat of a backlash against Lizzo. User Feedback: Minutes 27:50 to 28:40 Last week I said that Toni was our first binge listener, but I totally forgot that Rose told us she was binge listening months ago. I’m sorry Rose! Also Clumsyme said we were her number one podcast this year which is surprising, but we’ll take it! Comments of The Week: Minutes 28:40 to My comment of the week is from Darla on the post about Kanye wearing a silver bodysuit and silver paint for a performance at Art Basel. Chandra’s comments of the week are from Zapp Brannigan and Lala11_7 on the blind item and Greta Gerwig posts. Thanks for listening bitches and have a great holiday!

094 | Jacquelyn Umof: How Detachment From Any Outcome Can Propel You Towards Success Jacquelyn Umof is a former LA Laker Girl turned yogi - Action Jacquelyn is one of the biggest yoga influencers online. Known for her stunning poses, positive messaging and beautiful photography, Jacquelyn engages her fans through her "Get Stretchy" program. Jacquelyn is a trained ballerina, is on a mission to share her love of dance and movement with her huge Instagram audience, her subscribers on YouTube and on her wildly popular interactive blog. Her fans love her 1-week challenges, daily motivations and infinite tools for mental and physical strength, growth, and improvement. Jacquelyn is a classically trained ballerina from a very young age, and has danced professionally for LINES Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Inland Pacific Ballet, and went on to be a Laker Girl for the Los Angeles Lakers. She has worked with major brands including Roxy, Victoria's Secret, Power Bar, Pop Flex, Target, Bath and Body Works, and Alo Yoga. Jacquelyn started as a fitness instructor at a local gym. Her classes were the most popular at the gym, and they had to turn people away because they were so full. Then one day, Jacquelyn was completely removed from the class schedule. Turns out, a coworker wanted the class times that Jacquelyn taught, and was able to push Jacquelyn out. As Jacquelyn stepped out and began to pursue her dreams of serving her online following, she learned that saying NO meant that she would be open to better opportunities to say YES to. When she began refining who she worked with, and not worrying about the result of a NO, her business began to skyrocket. Learning to detach herself from worrying what people thought of her, or the end results of a NO led Jacquelyn to create fitness videos that impact people even more than she ever could have dreamed. Like Jacquelyn, I learned in my business that the art of detachment was a huge factor in my success. Not worrying about the impact of another person’s beliefs on my business helped me put aside fears and worries, knowing that every NO was pushing me closer to the right YES. When I look for sponsorships for my podcasts, I look at the services, tools, and products that I use every day and love. If these services, tools or products will serve my listeners, then I would reach out to the companies and see if they are interested in sponsoring my podcasts. If they say NO, that is ok! That opens me up to the opportunity of a YES that could be an even better alignment for me. When companies say YES, my friends and listeners know that they can trust the products and services that I promote because they know that I have already personally said YES to these. My guest on this week’s Success Unfiltered, Jacquelyn, had to learn that sometimes finding your YES means that you have to say NO - and that when you say NO, your success will skyrocket! If you’re ready to get inspired about saying NO to opportunities in order to make room for the best YES, then this is a MUST LISTEN episode of Success Unfiltered! I’ve got 3 ways that you can turn a NO into a win (and maybe even a future YES)! Grab my guide to surviving rejections in business and making them work for you right HERE! Here are a few key secrets we talked about in this episode: Michelle introduces Jacquelyn. Jacquelyn shares about how she taught popular Pilates/yoga and Barre fitness classes at a local gym. One day, Jacquelyn found herself removed from the schedule, and found out later that someone else wanted her class times, and removed Jacquelyn from the schedule, and bad-mouthing her teaching techniques to others. She had always desired to reach a larger community, especially online. When she was removed from the schedule like she was nothing, that led to a time of questioning and wondering if this was her purpose. Jacquelyn surrounded herself with people who were “in her corner,” lifting her up. She followed her gut: she knew that what she was doing was right, which fed her drive and purpose as she continued to teach after that event occurred. “If I’m not getting haters, I’m not being impactful enough - [having haters] means I’ve taken a stand for something.” ~ Jacquelyn Umof “Criticism has more to do with the givers bad mood, and their life and what’s going on with them; it has nothing to do with me. I was just in the ‘wrong place, wrong time.’ I get to let that go, and release that and have compassion on them. It takes a lot of practice though.” ~ Jacquelyn Umof It takes a certain resilience when you’re constantly putting yourself out there: Jacquelyn has to detach from the reactions and results. “Every day is trial and error; seeing if something is going to work or not.”  ~ Jacquelyn Umof Having a huge sense of gratitude and letting that sink in and constantly practicing that gratitude every single day helps with learning detachment from the end results; surrendering to what will happen and trusting your vision will bring you to where you are supposed to be. When you hear NO, that can be a sign that the person or job is not right for you. Let yourself have fun and enjoy the work. Getting paid what you’re worth gets less scary the more you do it. Be willing to walk away if people say NO to what you have to offer. You don’t have to quit your day job for a hustle; allow yourself to be able to create without the pressure of having to make money RIGHT NOW - this allows creativity, love, and passion to flow. When you start to own your value, and what you’re worth, you can flip the script and say NO. Jacquelyn says “I will never post something that I don’t 100% believe in.” Surrendering to your belief and your vision allows you to know that when you say NO to something, you know that something more is coming your way. Jacquelyn shared what she would tell her younger self. Connect with Jacquelyn: Jacquelyn’s Website YouTube Get Stretchy Instagram Jacquelyn’s Instagram Everyone Gets Rejected In Sales.
