LASER BLAST gets an unofficial remake in the surprisingly dark and upsetting DEADLY WEAPON. Starring NIGHTMARE 3's Rodney Eastman as a bullied teen who acquires an ultra-powerful ray gun, this nearly-lost cult movie goes to some heavy places, both for better and for worse. Films discussed: Satan's Sadists (1969), Brain of Blood (1970), Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971) From the mid-60's until the late 70's director Al Adamson and producer Sam Sherman made some of the most memorable low-budget horror and exploitation pictures to slide across American drive-in and grindhouse screens. Together they made films that not only exemplified genre, they also often transcend and blended genres, creating something that has stuck in the filmgoing collective consciousness for over half a century. And when Severin Films released The Al Adamson Masterpiece Collection boxed set in 2020, whole new generations were introduced to Al and Sam's work, and those of us who were already familiar learned a thing or two (or twenty) and got to see them look better than they have since they sat on a double bill in a 70s sleaze palace. All hail Al and Sam! Movies mention in this episode: Black Shampoo (1976), Blood and Flesh: The Real Life and Ghastly Death of Al Adamson (2019), Blood of Ghastly Horror (1967), Brain of Blood (1971), Brides of Blood (1968), The Crawling Hand (1963), The Day Mars Invaded Earth (1962), Dracula vs Frankenstein (1971), Easy Rider (1969), Five Bloody Graves (1969), Frankenstein's Bloody Terror (1968), Hell's Bloody Devils (1970), Kingdom of the Spiders (1977), Laserblast (1978), The Mighty Gorga (1969), The Mummy and the Curse of the Jackals (1969), Mutant (1984), The Navy vs The Night Monster (1966), Night of the Blood Monster (1970), The Phantom of the Hollywood (1974), The Sadists (1963), Satan's Cheerleaders (1977), Satan's Sadist (1969), Shock (1946), Star Wars (1977), The Thrill Killers (1964), Trick or Treats (1982), The Wasp Woman (1959), The Witchmaker (1969), Without Warning (1980), The Wolf Man (1941)

Limited word space here now. Story of my life in the cyber realm, always 568 characters too many, which is shite when you think about it. Life is longer than a soundbite. Six movies today, let's go! (Mind Snatchers 1972) is a movie about the military doing mind experiments on violent jerks starring Christopher Walken, and Cohaagen from Total Recall. (The Car 1977) is a movie about how a hick town deals with a demon possessed car that enjoys killing, and it stars the cool lady from skateboard the movie, Josh Brolin's Dad, and Crappy Captain Jellico from Star Trek the next generation. (Julia 1977) is a movie about early anti fascist activists fighting back against the Nazi's, and starring Barbarella, and Vanessa the Red. (Lady of the House 1978) is a movie that tells the true story of Sally Stanford played by Dyan Cannon, where Fierce ass Sally becomes the first Madam to become Mayor, and all to avoid the red tape of zoning laws so she can build a cool deck. (Laser Blast 1978) is a film about 2 stoners tryin to enjoy the sunshine in southern Cali, but asshats just keep harassing their mellow, enter 1 sweet Laser gun. Laser Blast stars Kim Milford, Kathy Farlye, that awesome guy from ALL the planet of the apes stuff, and a Star Wars billboard! Finally today your decade under the influence crew gives 10's across the board to (Best Boy 1979) it won the Oscar for best documentary, and in their acceptance speech William Shatner was a dick to the film makers, so I kept my vintage STTMP Captain Kirk action figure in my bag that day. Thanks for listening friends, please give us all the stars, and reach out eh. Why not?
8 more 70's movie reviews in the can. Starting things off today with (Billy Jack 1971). This is a sequel to a 1967 film called Born Losers, and it is just out of our reach for us. Here is a movie written by the 2 stars in the film and directed by BJ himself. Seems like a real labor of love, and it's pretty great and we'll tell ya'll about it very shortly, or we already are and your reading while your listening, how can you do that? Before we move on BJ is a film about a safe haven and school for outcasts and people of color, where close minded murderous Hicks are just outside the border, waiting to be racist and horrible to the max, I do hope someone has amazing fighting skills hmmm. One more thing, Howard Hesseman……..Johnny Flippin Fever from WKRP is HERE in this film, however, we suck and said it was Venus Flytrap, sorry bout that icky rookie mistake, Venus was played by the amazing Tim Reid and he is not in this film. Moving on to (Duck, you sucker 1971) Here we have the awful man who will soon have no friends from Happy birthday Wanda June (Rod Steiger), and the gross reporter guy from Goldengirl, (James Coburn), starring in this film about how to become heroes in the Mexican revolution. Hmmmmmm, your gonna need an explosives expert. Next up is (The Outside Man 1972) which stars a focused French guy, the guy that wants the beaches closed and doesn't care about yer concession sales, the amazing Ann flippin Margaret, and Angie (dressed to kill) Dickinson. Here is a movie with the idea of action, with out a lot of it, 70's style. You get to see massive amounts of driving round L.A. You can see the old Venice amusement pier, some of the weird street characters, and one thing we wanted to mention but spaced it, was the appearance of public electric shaver in a bathroom, which seems unsanitary, hey, I gots time let's look it up….Time has passed, and the internet has failed me, or perhaps my use of it has failed. (Badge 373 1973) Verna Bloom, star of a western we all liked, The Hired Hand, is here with Robert Duvall, Henry Darrow, and Radical 60's n 70's activist and Young Lord Felipe Luciano. Here we have some competing actors and the inspirational Felipe, kinda stuck in some budget cop movie, based on the guy whose budget cop stories also inspired the French connection character of Popeye D. Onward we strut to the light and uplifting Ingmar Bergman classic (Scenes from a Marriage 1974), almost too heavy to get into, but I don't really have to, I'll just skim that surface for you and move on. You've got amazing acting, directing, and cinematography, a good script etc. I wonder what could ever go wrong with a film focused on and icky relationship, through the years. He is horrid to the max, and it is worthwhile to examine relationships and the social norms and conditioning that live inside them. Gosh it was just difficult for your beloved D.U.I. crew to get through. Come with us now to 1975 with (Rancho Deluxe). Rancho Deluxe, is the Slim Pickens holy grail that I didn't even know I was looking for. Now, you have other stuff goin on here, like Starman (Jeff Bridges) and the dad from Serial Mom (Sam Waterson) are trying to pay rent and piss off a bull baron guy, although Bridges is slumming it, so to speak. Also serial mom's dad's Dad is played by Joe Spinell and he steals the dang show for the scene he's in. Lot's of good talent here, but is it good, or great, listen to find out? Second to last today we review (Outlaw Josey Wales 1976) a puzzling film directed by Clint Eastwood starring Sondra Locke, and Chief mother flippin Dan George, that's it. Finally today we enjoy (Corevette Summer 1978) “It's not even his car, it belongs to the school, It's not even your car!!” This film has Mary Jo Shively from designing woman, and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars confronting the guy from Laser Blast to return the schools hot rod, back to the school. After reprising Carlo Rizzi in a brief flashback scene at the end of The Godfather Part II, Russo acted in more than 46 films, including Goodnight, My Love (1972), Lepke (1975, as Albert Anastasia), Laserblast (1978), Chances Are (1989), The Freshman (1990), Side Out (1990), Another You (1991), Super Mario Bros. (1993), Any Given Sunday (1999) and Seabiscuit (2003). Russo claims that he started a fledgling career in organized crime working as an errand boy and mob associate for Frank Costello as an adolescent but later abandoned the dangerous and volatile lifestyle of organized crime. The Staten Island Mafioso Tommy Bilotti was reportedly best man at Russo's wedding. Since the beginning of his acting career, Russo owned a Las Vegas restaurant called Gianni Russo's State Street at 2570 State Street on the Las Vegas Strip (closed in 1988), and reportedly defeated 23 federal criminal indictments on a variety of charges stemming from alleged organized crime associations. Russo is also a singer. In 2004, he released a CD called Reflections that pays homage to Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. Russo owns a wine brand, Gianni Russo Wines, which debuted in 2009. In 2019, he published his memoir, Hollywood Godfather: My Life in the Movies and the Mob. 3 on a Meathook (1972), Grizzly (1976), & Day of the Animals (1977). Director William Girdler is a name that some horror fans might know some of his work, but probably don't know a lot about the man himself, or maybe don't realize how many great films he produced in a very short time, before his untimely death. 9 movies in only 6 years, and one of them being the most successful independent film for the time, which head that record until John Carpenter's Halloween (1978). In this episode we cover one of his earlier films, as well as two of his most popular ones, or ones that might be more familiar with your average fan. But we invite you to listen up and even rewatch them and see if you don't agree with us that William Girdler was much more than a low budget independent filmmaker, but one that consentantly turned out entertaining picutres. Titles mentioned in this episode: 3 on a Meathook (1972), Abby (1974), The Adventures of the Wilderness Family (1975), Airplane (1980), Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Asylum of Satan (1972), Day of the Animals (1977), Evils of the Night (1985), The Exorcist (1973), Gator (1976), Grizzly (1976), Jaws (1975), Halloween (1978), Laserblast (1979), Last Shark (1981), Mako: Jaws of Death (1976), The Manitou (1978), Orca (1977), Q: The Winged Serpent (1982), Roar (1981), Swiss Family Robinson (1960), Tentacles (1977), A Thing with Two Heads (1972), Tintorera: Killer Shark (1977), A Touch of Satan (1971), Wild Beasts (1984), Zebra Killer (1974)

Eddie Deezen is known to movie fans from his work on Grease, The Polar Express, War Games, and 1941. He’s known to animation fans for his voice acting on Dexter’s Laboratory, Duckman, and a host of others. He’s known to MST3k fans as “Bill Gates Guy” from Laserblast. And he’s known to me as an awesome guy who has a lot of great insights into TV and movies from all eras. In this episode of Hungry Trilobyte, Eddie and I talk about the craft of acting, how it differs on stage vs. on-camera, and what makes for good drama and good comedy. This week, your friends Count Vardulon and DM watch two random movies. In Fabric is a plodding, too-long, and ultimately too-weird story about a cursed dress. Crawl, on the other hand, is a great movie about trying to not get eaten by gators. Tune in for a non-recommendation, and stay for a Laserblast plug.
The episode you never knew you wanted is here! We each choose a bad movie that we LOVE, and we are prepared to defend it to the death... Jim zeros in on the sci-fi horror hybrid that is Laserblast, Jeff digs up the infamous Santa Clause Conquers the Martians, and Christina picks The Ice Pirates up and out of the cooler. These are the movies I talk about in this episode. Evilspeak (1981), Fair Game (1986), Ghoulies (1984), Ghoulies 2 (1987), Island of the Fishmen (1979), Shock Waves (1977), LaserBlast (1978), Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990), Nightmare (1981), Pervert! (2005) and Ten Shaolin Disciples (1982)
FANS: We are joined by Eddie Deezen, who has had a decades long acting career portraying nerds beginning with Eugene in Grease (1978) and moving along to films directed by Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis & John Badham. Plus--Laserblast (1978)! Eddie talks about hanging out with Tom Hanks at Dodgers games, meeting members of The Beatles, and more! FILMS: War Games (1983) invades CF3, and we talk with Eddie about playing the first computer geek in movie history. The film's dated technology makes some of us nostalgic while others find it nauseating, but we all agree that Ally Sheedy is great. Will the film's impact be enough to overcome its pacing and achieve the high score on the Cultfilmometer? FINDS: Another week brings more Netflix madness, Doctor Sleep arrives, casting news for The Batman and more!

As you emerge from your chocolate Easter bunny sugar coma, let episode 115 of ATARI BYTES spool soothing wake up game info into your ear holes. Back in 1980-81-ish, we imagine, the folks at Activision had this new space battle game, sort of a top-down Missile Command with alien invaders and ground forces and lots of laser battles. "What should we call it?" someone asked. They came up with lots of cool options, but couldn't agree on one. It was getting to be 5 o'clock and the production team wanted to get to the bar, so someone said, "Screw it. Let's just call the thing LASER BLAST and get out of here." And so they did. And now we're playing the most generically named video game since "Combat". But the story within the game is UNIQUE and EXCITING! At least, we think so. Hope you do too. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Originally aired on May 3, 2012 On April 29th the film music community lost yet another film composer years before his time. Joel Goldsmith was the eldest son of legendary and Academy Award winning composer, Jerry Goldsmith. He began scoring films in the late seventies and is best known for his work on the Stargate spin-off TV series’ and films. Over the course of his career, Goldsmith created fantastic music for numerous films, TV shows and video games such as LASERBLAST (co-composed with Richard Band), MOON 44, SHILOH, STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT (written alongside his father), KULL THE CONQUEROR, DIAMONDS, CALL OF DUTY 3 and more. We will be presenting music from all of those projects as well as a few surprises. For more information about Joel Goldsmith please visit his personal site at http://www.freeclyde.com. Bad movies we caught this week. What's worth watching and what's worth using as a coaster? Laser Blast an infamous flop, lampooned on Mystery Science Theatre. What springs to mind when you think "laser?" Maybe Austin Powers or James Bond but not...a silly cannon and an amulet. LaserBlast is about a loner who discovers an alien laser cannon and goes on a rampage, seeking revenge against those who he feels have wronged him. With a plot like that, how can you go wrong? Roddy McDowell (who'll work in just about anything) is in this. He plays a doctor but don't get too excited - his appearance lasts for all of five minutes. The film features a tennis racket battle. There are also turds that look like Claymation. Also, two nautically-themed features: Open Water and Caught Inside. The former features two SCUBA divers who are abandoned by their boat and basically have to survive the open seas. Also, Caught Inside an Aussie movie about a surfing trip gone terribly awry. "Bull" an alpha male who looks like Bret Hart with Iggy Pop's DNA spliced in. His travel mates get a sense of just how loony he is, after a fight with a fellow surfer. Gnarly, dude.

Attack of the Killer Soundtrack #12 - Attack of Richard Band! This week we return to build another killer soundtrack with none other then special guest co-host - composer Richard Band! Richard has composed more then 70 film scores including... Re-Animator, the Puppet Master series, The Pit & The Pendulum, Ghoulies, The Arrival, Castle Freak, The House on Sorority Row, Shrunken Heads, The Day Time Ended, Laserblast and so many more. He comes from a family of filmmakers and we discuss his upbringing as well as his decision to veer off into the music world - and then make it his career. All the while, assembling our own amazing soundtrack! And while explaining that he didn't actually build the puppets in Puppetmaster, we also discuss... living in Paris, air conducting, rock 'n roll, this big rock out in the ocean, a Flamenco show, a visual band, I was on a location shoot, toured around Italy, the London symphony, sitting on the beach in Monte Carlo, it really sort of did something to me, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, guitar, orchestrating, 70's AM rock, the first night in Madrid, what am I going to do with my life?, she made me a tuxedo, bought me a baton and an influential Telefunken record player. "It was something I'll never forget in my life... and that's when I knew this is what I'm going to be doing."
It will blow you awaaaaay! Svaret får du i episode 4 av Attack of the Killer Kast!

This week's episode is a fond look at 2 early Activision games, Tennis and Laser Blast. Lots of feedback for these two, plus another audio submission from Rob O'Hara! By the way, I know it's Willy Higinbotham, I had already put the mic away when I caught it in editing. Thank you Willy for video games! Next week I'll be looking at Circus Atari and Superman, two more of my childhood favorites. Upcoming games include King Kong and Jawbreaker by Tigervision, Pooyan, Strategy X, and Marine Wars by Konami, Space Invaders, Night Driver, and Golf by Atari, Ghost Manor and Spike's Peak by Xonox, and Turbo and Venture by Coleco. This episode is about two more Parker Brothers Star Wars games, Death Star Battle and Ewok Adventure. I didn't mention this in the episode, but the reason that an unreleased (by the company) prototype (Ewok Adventure) is included in the show is because it was assigned a part number. This will be the same for all companies that have prototypes with part numbers, as long as they have since been discovered. Did that make any sense? Also, please continue to bear with me as I try to break away from using a script. I need to practice, and I'm sorry I have to practice on you. It will get better. Next week I'll be looking at Bowling and Sky Diver, both by Atari. Upcoming games include Tennis and Laser Blast by Activision, Circus Atari and Superman by Atari, King Kong and Jawbreaker by Tigervision, Pooyan, Strategy X, and Marine Wars by Konami, and the original killer app for the 2600, Space Invaders. In this week's episode I talk about the 3rd party company Telesys, and two of their games, Coconuts and Cosmic Creeps. Both are enjoyable games, but there's not a whole lot of info available for this company. I certainly make up for that in listener emails! Also, I am trying to get away from having a script for my shows, because it is extremely time-consuming to write and I don't read as well as I would like. This week's show is virtually script free; please bear with me on this, in order to get better I have to practice, and it will get better, it's just going to take some time! I hope you understand and can get past my stammering that I didn't edit out of this episode. Next week I'll be doing two more Star Wars games, Death Star Battle and Ewok Adventure. After that it's Bowling and Sky Diver by Atari, Tennis and Laser Blast (paging Rob O'Hara) by Activision, Circus Atari and Superman by Atari, King Kong and Jawbreaker by Tigervision, and all three of the Konami games, Pooyan, Strategy X and Marine Wars. Please send your thoughts and memories of these games or anything you'd like relating to the 2600 to 2600gamebygame@comcast.net.
