With the team at Mercedes-AMG putting the V12-powered S65 out to pasture a handful of years ago, the highest-performance S-Class has become the 4.0-liter-powered S63. This latest iteration in the long line of hopped-up S-Class machines blends the aforementioned 4.0-liter with an electric motor at the rear axle. Powering this 188 hp electric motor is a 13.1kWh battery pack that can be recharged. According to Mercedes-AMG, this plug-in hybrid system was derived from the hybrid system that powers the brand's Formula 1 machine. Of course, that electric motor at the rear works with the 604 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque from the internal combustion engine and gives the latest S63 a staggering 791 hp and 1,055 lb-ft of torque – not bad for a luxury cruiser. According to Mercedes-AMG, this combination is good enough to rocket this 5,831-pound car to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Mark Vaughn hops behind the wheel of the 2025 Mercedes-AMG S63 and puts it through its paces. Vaughn gives you a guided tour of the S63 and highlights some of his favorite features and some of its accouterment. Later in the show, Vaughn takes you along for a live drive review of this S-Class. Adding to these segments, Vaughn chats with host Wesley Wren about the S63, the competitive set, and more. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes this 2025 Mercedes-AMG S63 special.

Jill and Tom opened the show by addressing the bombshell announcement that Honda and Nissan are merging. The hosts share their thoughts on one of the largest corporate mergers in automotive history. Also discussed was Ram's decision to delay launching the all-electric Ram REV pickup, and push up introduction of the Ramcharger extended-range electric truck. The Ramcharger operates on electric power alone, until the battery is depleted, and then charges the battery via an on-board gasoline engine. The Ramcharger is targeted at EV intenders worried about range. Jill shared her impressions of the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63S, a high-performance variant of the brand's popular C-Class sedan. In the second segment, the hosts welcome Ryan Decker of EV start-up Scout Motors to the show. Ryan discussed the company's launch plans, including details regarding its firsts products, the Terra pickup, and Traveler SUV. Per Ryan, U.S.-built Scouts should see delivery as early as 2027. In the last segment, Jill is subjected to Tom's “Is it a 2.0-Liter?” quiz. To wrap up the show, Tom shared his concerns about an emerging trend, dealership service/repair financing.

Dan Prosser and Andrew Frankel discuss the new Mercedes-AMG C63 with its controversial hybrid powertrain. Gone is the rumbling V8, in its place a four-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor that between them generate 670bhp. But the car is also very heavy, very expensive and lacking an appropriate soundtrack for a C63 AMG. They also talk about McLaren's incredible Formula 1 turnaround, Monterey Car Week and more.Use coupon code pod15 at checkout to get 15% off a subscription to The Intercooler's online car magazine!
Slotted below the C-Class, the Mercedes-Benz CLA expanded the Mercedes-Benz coupe and sedan lineup when it came onto the scene in 2013. Shrinking the styling of the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, the CLA-Class is a swoopy alternative to the statelier C-Class with a lower starting price. Building on its first generation, Mercedes-Benz rolled out the second-generation CLA-Class in 2019 and carried along the wild AMG 45 into the next generation. Splitting the difference between the fire-breathing AMG CLA 45 and the more subdued CLA 250 is the CLA 35. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4, this CLA promises an AMG-enhanced powertrain that delivers 302 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. That power travels through an eight-speed automatic transmission and into the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's executive editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and puts it through its paces. Murphy takes you on a guided tour of the CLA 35 and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, Murphy takes you along for a live drive review. Joining these segments, Murphy chats with host Wesley Wren about the CLA 35, its position in the CLA lineup, and the Mercedes-Benz lineup, where it stacks up against the competition and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 special.
We admit the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 isn't quite as sleek and sexy-looking as its sibling, the GLA, but when you're at the controls of the compact sports utility, it immediately ceases to matter. The influx of 300+ horsepower is the biggest reason. Suddenly, you're not operating a mundane grocery-getter, but instead, you find yourself piloting an agile, goes-where-you-point-it sports sedan that just happens to be almost five and a half feet tall. The Motor Press Guild's annual Drive Day gave Host Jack Nerad the chance to reacquaint himself with the joys of the AMG GLB 35 4Matic+, which is the hot rod of the GLB lineup. At $59,050, it not only features an AMG-tuned version of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 302 horsepower, but also a well-tuned sport suspension that includes a multi-link rear. With giant brakes, 19-inch alloy wheels, and low-profile tires, the mashup proves irresistible. Nerad will tell you more in this episode. In this week's other road test, Co-host Chris Teague puts an all-new yet startlingly familiar vehicle to the test. The Mazda CX-70 is brand-spanking-new for the 2025 model year, and we'll bet you haven't seen one. But then it bears a remarkable resemblance to another vehicle that is significantly better known. Teague will describe the CX-70's lineage in much more detail and tell us how he enjoyed driving the plug-in hybrid version of Mazda's newest nameplate. This week our special guest is Sam Fiorani, Vice President of Global Vehicle Forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions. If you are thinking about buying a car this year, Sam can give you a great idea of what you can expect and how you can save some money. So we're sure you'll enjoy our discussion. In this week's news, both General Motors and Ford reasserted their faith in electric vehicles this past week. At the same time, both automakers have cut their current EV production plans as sales have slowed. We have to wonder whether they are crossing their fingers when they say that they have a firm belief in an electric-vehicle future. While EVs aren't selling as well as many had hoped, they are certainly using a lot of electricity. A new study shows how much and where. Of course, the expanded use of electricity has a lot of implications, and we'll explore them in this episode. In other news, Tesla hasn't been able to persuade California to call off its investigation into the way it has marketed its self-driving technology. And Toyota is doubling down on hydrogen despite the fact its Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle has not garnered many sales. Both of those stories are worth exploring, too. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

These days, over a trillion semiconductor microchips are made and shipped each year. The industry is worth eye-watering amounts, and since the 2020-2023 global shortage, nearly all governments are trying to get a slice of the industrial wafer. But what was it like just 40 years ago trying to get yourself a home computer when your communist leaders didn't approve, and there were nowhere enough devices to go round anyway? Andrada Fiscutean spoke to some of the bootleggers. These days, not only are computing devices in just about everyone's hands, they are mostly interconnected to vast arrays of machines collectively forming “the cloud”, which provides so much of our economic and scientific infrastructure. It is no longer about stand alone computing. But just maybe the deep future of computing lies in using individual atoms and photons as information-bearing digits. This is the basis of “quantum computing” which could use the properties and mechanics of the quantum scale to perform hugely complicated calculations in fractions of a second. Prof David Lucas of Oxford University physics department and colleagues are building some key demonstrators of the techniques we need to master. And just recently, they built an impressive manifestation of “Blind Quantum Computing”, which just might enable something like the quantum cloud of the future. Also, we have a look at an app for modern motorists that adjusts a piece of music to react to the movement of the car. Developed by Mercedes-AMG and the rapper Will.i.am, Christine Yohannes has been thinking about drivers becoming the musical maestros of their own journeys. Presented by Alex Lathbridge, with Andrada Fiscutean and Christine Yohannes. Produced by Alex Mansfield, with Harrison Lewis and Tom Bonnett.

We open with the news Kate Middleton is having treatment for cancer and how Em was right in her assumptions that we shouldn't be speculating about BBL's and the like. Especially when a woman is undergoing a medical treatment that we don't have all the information on. Sending WTF thoughts to the Palace PR team and speculating on Kate's marriage to Prince William though, still falls into an open season situation. Then we pivot into an update on Em and Vincie's Friday inside the Mercedes AMG tent at the F1 Grand Prix, with a side quest into female F1 drivers and why Vincie doesn't trust optometrists anymore. Em and her daughters went to a family friend's 21st birthday where they witnessed some truly awful DJ work, which inspired Michael to reveal he's wrapped on Season 3 of ‘The Newsreader' and spent the weekend DJ-ing the wrap up party too. Then it's back to Sunday at the F1, with a side of airport lounge downgrades thrown in. Finally, Beyoncé is due to drop her country music album this weekend, which side quests on Em's rogue Instagram posts, Emsolators commentating on Beyoncé's singing ability, and more sing-ger, vocalist, entertainers and singers chat too. Plus, in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael talk about Rebel Wilson naming Sasha Baron Cohen as the celeb trying to stop her publishing her memoir, something that REALLY connected with Em. Tom and guest host Paul Herrold of the Sons of Speed covered a number of topics this week. First, the hosts addressed the surprise Rivian reveal of not one, but two, small crossovers last week, both of which are scheduled to be built at the maker's existing Illinois facility. Both will be much more affordable than Rivian's current offerings. Also, the Chevrolet Blazer EV is back in production, this after a stop-sale was ordered by the brand as a result of software issues. Listen for details regarding the Blazer's return to production, and significant price cuts. Still in the first segment, Paul shared the scoop on a pair of excellent Sons of Speed-produced “The Lap” videos, one featuring a collectible Dodge Challenger, the other a rather rare—and high-performance—Mercedes-AMG product. In the second segment, the hosts welcome Randy Dale of Nissan to the program. Randy walked Tom and Paul through the updates to the 2024 Nissan Sentra, which Tom feels has become a far better vehicle—and a great value. In the last segment Paul is subjected to Tom's “Who Made More” quiz, which Tom expected Paul to fail. Did he? The hosts wrapped up the show covering a number of subjects, including the impressive interiors of Hyundai and Genesis cars and crossovers.
CELSIUS and Ferrari. Monster Energy and was Mercedes-AMG for many years but is now with McLaren. And you can't overlook the current top Formula 1 team…Red Bull. It's probably hard to imagine now, but there was a time in the early 1990s when there weren't any energy drinks sponsoring F1 racing teams. Similarly, it's probably hard to imagine now…but in next thirty years we might be saying the same thing about supplement brands. Now…I'm sure every F1 racing team has some type of product allocation arrangement with certain supplement brands, but that's rookie-level sports marketing tactics compared to the recent THG and Williams Racing partnership. THG Ingenuity will provide Williams Racing with a broad range of services, including across technology, ecommerce, and sustainability, while Myprotein will assist with nutrition. Will this be the tipping point for the supplement industry to dive deeper into F1? Some high-tech luxury cars enter the Unnamed Automotive Podcast garage this week, as Sami finally shares his experience driving the totally redesigned 2024 BMW X2. Where the outgoing model was more of a hot hatch, this seems more like a sedan-ified crossover. And while that sounds kind of mundane, the sheer amount of weird technology help the X2 stand out in a way, or so Sami suggests. Then Benjamin gets his hands on the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE Sedan, which promises the world, but only delivers under certain scenarios. Be sure to listen to this segment with a checklist to see if you can remember all the things that have to go right before you can access the full power of this speedy EV. Thanks for listening!
For the 2024 model year, Mercedes-AMG is upgrading the performance-oriented GLS 63 three-row SUV by adding to its generous list of standard equipment. If you think a performance-oriented three-row SUV is sort of a silly idea, well, you probably haven't driven a GLS 63. But co-host Chris Teague has, and he reports on all the details of his weeklong stint in the flagship of the AMG SUV family. The 2024 GLS 63 gets new appearance items inside and out — a new rear light signature and a Nappa leather-cover instrument panel among the new features. It also has been endowed with a newly standard panoramic sliding sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive high-beam headlights, selectable AMG Performance exhaust system, Burmester surround sound system, 360-degree surround view system and blind spot assist. Of course, the heart of the GLS 63 is under the hood, where lies the handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo engine that produces 603 horsepower. For use in the big SUV, it has been systematically electrified with a 48-volt auxiliary on-board electrical system and integrated starter generator. The result of this mild-hybrid system is even smoother and more powerful drivability. Chris Teague will tell you the rest in this episode. While Teague was testing the $150,000+ AMG GLS 63, Host Jack Nerad was behind the wheel of the 2024 Mazda Mazda 3 Turbo. While it seems the co-host got the best of it, Nerad found there was nothing shabby about the performance or equipment of the $36,000 Mazda3. In an ocean of compact cars, the hatchback stands out for its premium looks, exquisite interior, and fun-to-drive persona. No, its 256 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel-drive give it a verve that few compacts can match. And we'll have other thoughts coming up in this episode. In this week's news segment, Stellantis, the owners of the Jeep, RAM Truck, Dodge, and Chrysler brands, is trying to stave off rumors that it will merge with France-based Renault. We'll tell you more about that and its implications coming up. Ford is facing disruptions to the product of its F-150 and F-150 Lightning pickup trucks, which could cost you if you're seeking a new Ford truck. And while Toyota has not been bullish about electric vehicles, it has just announced a giant new EV production facility to be based in Kentucky. We'll have more on both stories. We are also sad to report the imminent demise of yet another legendary vehicle. We'll tell you what it is and when it goes away in this week's show. This week, our special guest is Katelyn Salzman, Lexus expert on the all-new Lexus GX SUV. Host Jack Nerad recently had a chance to drive the GX and then sat down with her to discuss the details of what is a more exciting vehicle than ever before. We think you'll enjoy our conversation. All that and more are coming up on America on the Road. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, YourTestDriver.com, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com
Alex Kirry and Dan Jimenez host Mode Push as the 2024 season is now less than a month away. One big story after another have rolled out of the garages on the F1 grid without even a test lap being logged by the teams. The news of the Andretti-Cadillac F1 team being denied possible entry into F1, at least for now is where the guys start. The biggest driver news and seat swapping drama surrounded 7-time champion Lewis Hamilton and his announced move to the Ferrari F1 team after this season. This of course will start a domino chain of drivers losing seats, changing teams and some even leaving F1 all because Hamilton will leave Mercedes AMG at the end of the 2024 season. This biggest news of the offseason is that of Red Bull boss Christian Horner who is being accused of an inappropriate relationship by someone inside the Red Bull F1 team and is going to face an independant special attorney investigation starting Friday and many rumors of Horner losing his job at Red Bull have been swirling. Too many storylines to miss as the guys are back for a third year of the Mode Push Podcast.

Mercedes-AMG closes out the year with an 816-horsepower mic drop in the form of the SL63 S E Performance. Brad Hansen returns to the podcast with some epic Radwood stories celebrating cars of the 1980s and 1990s, and we have a special Radwood-themed cheap car challenge to honor his visit.
Electrification is perfect for luxury vehicles. The 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV adds performance and exclusivity to the premium experience. Dual motor 4MATIC all-wheel drive provides the traction to handle up to 677 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. And if 3.4 second 0-60 sprints aren't enough, the Hyperscreen dashboard impresses even standing still. Tom Voelk checks out a well-equipped model in Emerald Green Metallic and finds it's a great way to move a family briskly if you don't need to go too far.
Plus, could Mercedes-AMG go back to V8s in the C 63 and more?
