Read transcriptLet's talk about the year 2007, when Ubisoft looked at Konami's TMNT license, going up for grabs after three straight beat-em-ups, and said “yeah, we'll take it,” the video game equivalent of adopting somebody else's very large, very established pet. They tied the whole thing to Imagi's brand new fully CGI turtle movie and then, in an act of scheduling chaos I can only respect, shipped the game three entire days before the film hit theaters. Bold! Confusing! Possibly the result of someone losing a calendar! And then, because apparently one platform was never going to cut it, Ubisoft just kept going. PlayStation 2! GameCube! Xbox 360! Wii! PC! A PlayStation 3 version that got paraded around at trade shows like a prize pony and then quietly put out to pasture, never to be seen again! And just when you think the roster's full, Nintendo DS and PSP roll in with an entirely separate game wearing the same name tag, because why make one turtle game when you could make several turtle games and let the consumer sort it out. Also, bonus points to whoever in marketing decided the title needed zero subtitles, zero colons, zero numbers, just “TMNT,” like it's the only one that's ever existed. Confidence! Climbing out of the sewer to help me survey this multi-console fever dream is Jeremy Powers, host and creator of the Zenspath Entertainment Network, a man who apparently collects retro hardware, works as an engineer, and still finds time to run a podcast, which is either elite time management or a full refusal to acknowledge the concept of a day off. So track down whichever version of this thing actually ended up in your house back in 2007, because statistically there's a good chance it wasn't the same one as your neighbor's, and let's find out if TMNT earned its spot in the turtle hall of fame, or if it should've stayed a trade show prototype. Learn such things as: Do we ever stop to think that maybe the people making these games knew what they were doing all along? Will we ever get that chance to see Splinter and Iroh together? How much retreading is acceptable when you're the new guy making things? And so much more! You can find Jeremy on YouTube @Zenspathcom and of course at the Zenspath Entertainment Network. This week, Brett, Austin, and Jason cover four very different corners of gaming — starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved. Brett played the entire thing with zero nostalgia, and the remake genuinely won him over. But the three new prequel missions, the only original content in the release, tell a different story: reused assets, thin characters, and a baffling choice to have a new character openly dismiss Master Chief. That firsthand breakdown gets weighed against the discourse, the layoffs that hit the studio a week after launch, and what it all means for a $50 price tag. From there, the crew takes a first look at Funnel Runners, an early access co-op survival game where the real threat is a terrifyingly realistic tornado — thin on content right now, but building real community buzz. Then it's a generational showdown on Ghost Recon Wildlands' 25th anniversary update: Jason's 195 hours deep, Brett's walking in cold, and the two compare notes on the new 4K/60fps upgrade, the Last Rites mission, and what Ubisoft's silence on Breakpoint says about where the franchise is really headed. Closing things out, Austin replays Spider-Man 2018 in the wake of Brand New Day's record-breaking box office run, using it as a lens for what Marvel's Wolverine — Insomniac's next big swing — might look like when it lands in September. Time-value takes, honest tradeoffs, and opinions throughout — no hype, just the real talk busy gamers actually need. We're back and in the two weeks away…nothing has changed. In fact, it's only gotten worse but what do you expect from an AI world taking in all the ram (and water). PlayStation tells us it has enough ram for systems through the end of the year and more so during the release of GTA6 but Samsung has said we're gonna be in the funk for the foreseeable future. Also, both Nvidia and AMD are raising their GPU prices this month. With Microsoft increasing the Xbox price in the UK and Europe. Speaking of GTA6, the boss of Take-Two Interactive says we're getting the game at a STEAL for $80/$100. He's kinda right, if I'm honest. We've said before but that's a game you could put an outrageous price on (kinda is already) and it wouldn't surprise anyone to see the kind of numbers it would generate. Still, the way he put it came off like some over the top movie villain. Then again, he's a CEO, so… EA would really like the cut of that guy's jib, given what their CEO walked away with from the success of Battlefield 6. I mean, AFTER they laid off a good number of people first. Given the way these companies are handled it's no wonder we're still waiting on another Splinter Cell game. At this rate it'll release for a console no one can really afford. Ubisoft, it's been 4,738 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 9,128 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.

The second of the major releases is out now everywhere on PC, XBOX, and yes, even PlayStation 5, as HALO Campaign Evolved has come out of its early access period, and both Sean and Marc have played it, so they have thoughts on whether it delivers and if this really is the definitive way to play the first HALO game. Also, XBOX has begun its backwards compatibility program to PC beginning with four original XBOX games, with promises of more to come, and it may even possibly extend to third-party games as well. There's even the promise of achievements being added to the games as well. Could we see PlayStation doing anything similar to this at all? And will this eventually extend to a large portion of the library? Plus, a blackout is being organized to continue the rebellion against PlayStation for stopping the production of physical discs in 2028. Could this be the thing that gets their attention? Alanah Pearce also has evidence that Sony knows full well there would be backlash against them and gave very strict social media guidelines to follow as well. Welcome to this week's episode of the PEBCAK Podcast!  We've got three amazing stories this week so sit back, relax, and keep being awesome!  Be sure to stick around for our Dad Joke of the Week. (DJOW) Follow us on Instagram @pebcakpodcast   Please share this podcast with someone you know!  It helps us grow the podcast and we really appreciate it!   Simple 6 signup link https://simple6.co/r/CFUR98   Hugging Face allegedly had to fall back on China's GLM 5.2 to investigate the OpenAI hack after US frontier models refused to help with forensic analysis, unable to distinguish attacker from defender. - https://x.com/coinbureau/status/2079663328021057654?s=46 - https://x.com/t3chfalcon/status/2079998873183949221 Per the claim, safety guardrails on US frontier models blocked forensic assistance during the incident response because the models couldn't tell the investigating security team apart from the attacker, forcing Hugging Face to run GLM 5.2 on its own servers to complete the analysis — a notable reversal given the assumption that domestic models would be the trusted fallback in a crisis.   VW drivers running GrapheneOS say the automaker's app has locked them out entirely, deepening fears carmakers are forcing users back into Google's ecosystem.  VW has now confirmed to German outlet heise that it deliberately blocked GrapheneOS, LineageOS, and /e/OS users via Google's Play Integrity API — the same certification gatekeeper already used by Barclays, HSBC, Monzo, Netflix, and Disney+. - https://cybernews.com/privacy/volkswagen-grapheneos-app-issues/ - https://x.com/intcyberdigest/status/2079992915972018246?s=46 - https://x.com/orwellday/status/2079704437241610443?s=46 Roughly 500,000 GrapheneOS users are affected; VW's app still supports outdated Android versions but rejects the privacy-focused OS, and VW told one user GrapheneOS "is not an official Volkswagen offering." The lockout follows a recent VW API change that also cut off third-party smart-charging and home-automation tools, raising questions about EU Data Act compliance.   A 19-year-old alleged Scattered Spider member's globe-trotting VPN op-sec got shredded by a Windows telemetry ID he probably didn't know existed. - https://cybersecuritynews.com/windows-device-identifier-tracking/ Peter Stokes (dual US-Estonian, 19) allegedly ran an $8M extortion hit on a luxury retailer using voice-phishing, ngrok tunneling, and 77GB of S3 exfil — but the FBI cross-referenced his Microsoft Global Device Identifier (GDID) across Apple, Snapchat, Facebook, and even a Ubisoft login to place the same device on the same IPs in Tallinn, NYC, and Thailand, matching his travel records. Microsoft has since acknowledged using the GDID to track the user across three countries — meaning the VPN masked his network endpoint, but the GDID rendered that protection moot.   Dad Joke of the Week (DJOW)   Find the hosts on LinkedIn: Chris - https://www.linkedin.com/in/chlouie/ Glenn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/glennmedina/ Jason - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jason-seemann-12b7075/

Not the busiest of weeks for news, especially compared to previous weeks, but I guess it isn't all bad. On my end, we might be getting another shot at someone making a Burnout game. However they've tried before and missed the mark so we'll have to wait and see how this next attempt shakes out. We don't have detailed pre-order data for GTA6, but we do know it's been number one on PlayStation for a while now. Given that, I could probably bet money there will be server issues on one or both of the consoles it's releasing for on that day. That many people trying to download and play that one game is bound to clog some pipes. It sure would be nice to get some news on Splinter Cell, but I'll take that Ghost Recon news next month so long as it's better than what they previously released. Wildlands was great, I'm talking about the game that came after that. Ubisoft, it's been 4,724 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 8,701 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.

So we finally have a week that isn't dominated by bad news. But don't get me wrong, it's still there. From more layoffs to more physical media options being lost to the expectations that our RAM pricing issues will only get worse. But let's focus on the good for a bit at least. Summer Games Done Quick raised over TWO MILLION dollars for charity and that's just an absolutely wonderful thing to share. I'm not sure where it stands among previous efforts but it doesn't matter. Anything raised when there was none before is always a good thing. In the “captain obvious” segment of the news we heard that analysts predict a slump in console sales on the horizon. Given the fact console prices keep increasing this didn't really take a particularly strong set of mind powers to foresee. We again state, as we have for a while now, the best time to buy was yesterday. The second best time is today. This advice will now continue to be the case until sometime in 2028 or further. And Ubisoft made the news but not for good reason as there have been more layoffs after the VERY successful launch of the Black Flag remake. They still have not yet released Splinter Cell. Ubisoft, it's been 4,717 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 8,527 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.

Well, we had put faith in Ubisoft, and that was likely our demise. While Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has been getting great reviews, and Ryan has been enjoying his time with it, Jocelyn hasn't had the same luck with her Steam copy. Over in the news, we have a few updates on PlayStation ending their run with physical media, LEGO has another expensive Nintendo collaboration, and devs present their case for extending this console generation.Discussion00:00:00 - Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced00:29:18 - NewsImportant StuffSupport us on PatreonDiscord ChannelEmail the show Hosted on Acast.
