So we finally have a week that isn't dominated by bad news. But don't get me wrong, it's still there. From more layoffs to more physical media options being lost to the expectations that our RAM pricing issues will only get worse. But let's focus on the good for a bit at least. Summer Games Done Quick raised over TWO MILLION dollars for charity and that's just an absolutely wonderful thing to share. I'm not sure where it stands among previous efforts but it doesn't matter. Anything raised when there was none before is always a good thing. In the “captain obvious” segment of the news we heard that analysts predict a slump in console sales on the horizon. Given the fact console prices keep increasing this didn't really take a particularly strong set of mind powers to foresee. We again state, as we have for a while now, the best time to buy was yesterday. The second best time is today. This advice will now continue to be the case until sometime in 2028 or further. And Ubisoft made the news but not for good reason as there have been more layoffs after the VERY successful launch of the Black Flag remake. They still have not yet released Splinter Cell. Ubisoft, it's been 4,717 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 8,527 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.

A week after the major XBOX layoffs we've had some fallout with parts of Bethesda threatening to strike, and finding out that Id software is actually still making a new DOOM game despite all of the dismissals at the studio. There's also a new Fallout game in development from Obsidian and yes, they are still making Avowed 2 for the time being too. So there's some good and bad coming from what's been a torrid few weeks for XBOX. PlayStation is also having to deal with its own fallout from their major decision to stop making discs, with petition's to prevent it from happening getting louder and PC players taking unfortunate matters into their own hands, none of this may deter Sony from turning back according to a certain Dr. Serkan Toto. Not to mention, some lawsuits that may already be in the works too. In today's Daily Fix:Grand Theft Auto 6 went up for preorder a few weeks ago, and it's already sold $260 million worth of early purchases. According to analysts at Newzoo, the game is on track to hit between $3 and $5 billion dollars in the first week. Yes, that's BILLIONS of dollars in sales in Week 1. By comparison, GTA 5 made $1.15 billion in its first week at a lower price point than GTA 6 will be launched at. In other news, a player in AC Black Flag Resynced accidentally found the treasure in an upcoming in-game event, causing Ubisoft to cancel the event, while praising that player's treasure-hunting skills. And finally, an in-person Pokémon Go event in New York saw attendees sell their rare Mewtwos for thousands of dollars on eBay, much to the disgust of many fans.

An OLED panel would be an improvement over the current Switch 2's LCD screen, but would cost more. The ongoing hardware component crisis is also a factor, which has forced Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft to raise prices on their current-gen consoles post-launch. In other news, fans may have criticized Ubisoft for their DLC plans for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, but that didn't stop gamers from buying them. The company has made an extra $1 million on Steam from sales of the game's DLC items. And in related news, hundreds of employees across several studios are being laid off, including those at Ubisoft's support studio in Barcelona, which had worked on Black Flag Resynced.

Als 2013 das Original erschien, war es für viele das beste Assassins Creed seit dem 2. Teil mit Ezio. Auch ich habe so empfunden. Die Geschichte war gut, und das Piratensetting war eine tolle Idee. Und nach wie vor ist für mich Black Flag das beste Piratenspiel. Selbst Ubis eigenes Skull & Bones hat es nicht überholen können. Nur einen Koop-Multiplayer habe ich vermisst, seit ich in Sea of Thieves mit Sebastian die Meere unsicher gemacht habe. Nun, den Koop Multiplayer gibt es leider noch immer nicht in Black Flag, aber dafür wurde die Singleplayer Kampagne wunderbar aufgearbeitet. Black Flag Resynced ist keine billige HD Konvertierung sondern strahlt dank Anvil Engine in neuem Glanz. Man merkt, dass das Spiel insgesamt modernisiert wurde, auch Inhaltlich. So muss es sein wenn man ein älteres Spiel neu auf den Markt gibt. Es macht einfach Spaß, wieder in Edwards Welt einzutauchen. Auch wenn man das Spiel vor 13 Jahren gespielt hat, so bietet es einiges Neues und kann dadurch auch wieder überzeugen. Fans des Originals, von Open Worlds und Piratensettings kommen hier deshalb gleichermaßen auf ihre Kosten.

I don't know how many more times I can start these things by saying we have more bad news but… We have more bad news. Likely by now you know most of it. The gaming world has been dominated by the news from both Sony and Microsoft. On the Microsoft side, it’s the layoffs. The big “reset”. We'd known cuts were coming and we expected it to be bad. We didn't know how bad but it didn't matter. Whatever we thought wasn't near what actually happened. In 2025 there were about 5500 jobs lost in the gaming industry. Just two weeks ago the number for 2026 was over 4500 jobs lost but after the Microsoft cuts, we're at over 8000 jobs lost this year. And it's not over. On the Sony side of things it's the decision to stop producing physical discs for first and third party PlayStation titles beginning in 2028. This will likely spread across other gaming platforms as well. Sony took the hit for making the announcement but it's almost a given that Microsoft and Nintendo will follow. The future for physical media is bleak. The future for video gaming is bleak. The future for PC gaming/building is bleak. And it's not over. Ubisoft, Splinter Cell will not save you, even though it's been 4,710 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 8,312 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.

In today's Daily Fix:Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has debuted with a series-high 100,000 concurrent players on Steam. Although reviews have been very good so far, not everyone's happy. Many gamers are shocked at the amount of microtransactions, with some upset that they shelled out extra $$ for digital deluxe edition of what they assumed would be a content complete version of the game. Ubisoft has heard the complaints, but it's unclear if there will be any price adjustments or "make-good" for those who bought the digital deluxe edition. In other news, Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 1 and 2 have officially been ported to the PS4 and PS5, but don't expect a comprehensive remaster. The folks at Digital Foundry have found the games to be lacking in modern technical flourishes like 4K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate (the games are capped at 1080p60).
