Hollywood's newest Supergirl is kind of a dirtbag — in the good way. Fearless and grumpy, Supergirl (Milly Alcock) sets out on a quest to support a new pal's revenge journey and to make a point that should be clear by now: Never mess with a lady's dog. We're kicking off our Smallville Season 9 rewatch with “Savior,” and wow, what a season premiere. Lois Lane finally returns after her mysterious disappearance, Clark is rocking the all-black look while trying to embrace his Kryptonian destiny, and the show wastes no time setting up a season full of mystery, danger, and some seriously intriguing future teases. We talk about Lois being front and center where she absolutely belongs, why Brian Austin Green's John Corben is such a great addition to the cast, Clark's struggle between humanity and destiny, and just how much we love the setup surrounding Lois' dream and what it could mean for everything that's coming. Between the return of Lois, the arrival of Zod, the rise of the Blur, and one of the strongest season premieres the series has delivered, this one had us excited from beginning to end.Support the show: https://patreon.com/hopefullyawesomeBecome a Member on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHRvjz_pKP1Th5Y8ZIwFMtQ/joinCheck out our Merch! - https://hopefullyawesome.creator-spring.com/This video is NOT sponsored. After 50 years, Superman and Spider-man once again join forces along with their publishers, Marvel and DC. After the success of Batman and Deadpool's team-up, can SUPERMAN/SPIDER-MAN and SPIDER-MAN/SUPERMAN live up to the hype? Should we expect more inter-dimensional corporate synergy in the future? Read transcriptSomewhere out there is a piece of Superman history that almost nobody remembers exists. Not because it was bad. Not because it flopped. It just… vanished off the internet one day, like it got caught in a Phantom Zone projector aimed at a server farm. That's the story of The Multipath Adventures of Superman, and we're about to dig it back up. The whole thing started life as a CD project dreamed up with actual comic book writers, including Louise Simonson and Steve Englehart, before publisher Brilliant Digital Entertainment decided the format worked better as an ongoing online series. So you got Menace of Metallo on disc, and then a sprawling, branching, multi-arc saga that lived entirely on the internet, complete with a villain who time-travels just to make everyone's life harder. And then, because this is the late '90s internet we're talking about, the entire thing quietly vanished. No re-releases, no remasters, just a bunch of dead links and a handful of people insisting this was real and they didn't dream it. So yes, this episode is a little bit of a cheat. We usually stick to games you could buy off a shelf and put in a console. This is software, distributed on a CD-ROM and later piecemeal over a dial-up connection, that you had to install a special plugin just to run. But it's a piece of Superman history that's basically slipped through the cracks of the internet entirely, and that felt worth breaking the rules for. Helping me dig through the wreckage is Chris Baker from SuperHero.vg, who has spent decades working on actual superhero games at places like Marvel and LucasArts and literally wrote the book on this stuff with WRONG! Retro Games, You Messed Up Our Comic Book Heroes! If anyone can tell us whether this lost relic deserves to stay lost, it's him. So load up the B3D Projector, brace for some early-internet voice acting, and let's see how many ways Metropolis can end before lunch. Learn such things as: What happens when a piece of officially licensed Superman media just disappears off the internet? Is watching a Choose Your Own Adventure even a game? Is anyone at DC kicking themselves now since there's probably dozens of people who want to see this? And so much more! You can find Chris over at SuperHero.vg or @cbake76 on BlueSky or Threads. Or both. And if you listened all the way to the end and want to read the review that Chris shared with me, here's the link he mentioned. Career / Process You broke in around 2006, and you're now pushing close to two decades in comics. How has your approach to storytelling changed from those early years to now? You've been at this for nearly 20 years at this point. What's something you understand about comics today that you wish you knew when you started? You're writing across multiple major franchises right now. How do you shift your voice between something like Superman, Iron Man, and G.I. Joe? On top of all this, you wrote a story in Creepshow Vol. 4 #5 titled Artificial Ignorance. Was that a story you had in a drawer, or…how did that come to be? Superman / Superboy-Prime Superboy-Prime has always been a volatile character, but here he feels almost desperate to prove himself. How do you balance his edge with making him someone readers want to follow? With Manchester Black entering the picture, what excites you about putting those two characters in conflict specifically? Any Superman elements/tropes you want to touch? Iron Man You've said Tony Stark is one of your favorite characters. What's something about Tony that you feel hasn't been explored enough in past runs? Madame Masque and A.I.M. feel like they're operating at a higher level here. What makes them the right villains for this phase of the story? Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man Do you have a favorite Universal Monsters adaptation? Do you have any favorite werewolf stories? This feels like a very grounded, almost psychological take on the Wolf Man. What drew you to that angle? Is the when of this story important to the overall experience? What makes the Wolf Man a character worth revisiting right now? Rapid Fire Question Round (Stolen from Stephen Colbert so that a guest is “known”): Best sandwich? What's one thing you own that you really should throw out? Apples or oranges? What is the scariest animal? Have you ever asked someone for their autograph? What do you think happens when we die? Favorite action movie? Favorite smell? Least favorite smell? Flat or sparkling? Most used app on your phone? If you could have dinner with any three characters you've written before, who would they be and why? You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life: what is it? Depeche Describe the rest of your life in 5 words?

It's time to enter the universe of Earth-38, more commonly referred to as The Arrowverse. Amazingly we're haven't really covered much of this in Caravan Of Garbage and the Supergirl 2015 series seems a good a place as any. This version again sees the character of Kara Zor-El arrive from Krypton a little late to encounter a fully grown Superman and finds herself directionless despite having all the powers all of the time. Blending a bit of The Flash/Arrow with the likes of Alley McBeal/The Devil Wears Prada it definitely does its own thing for good or ill or for middling results whilst also managing to introduce characters like Martian Manhunter, Bizarro Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin's Superman, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olson, Brainiac, Maxwell Lord, Lex Luthor and more! We're wrapping up our coverage of the classic 6-episode anime FLCL (Fooly Cooly) on Anime Binge Club, and Spencer and Kevin have a lot to say about robots, aliens, and the crushing weight of adolescence. After Spencer accidentally swears on YouTube (twice), forgets the show's name, and loses his fidget toy, we dive into the finale with the enthusiasm of someone who just had a guitar pulled out of their head. Kevin confesses he found the ending confusing, which surprises absolutely no one, and Spencer responds by delivering an impressive breakdown of the entire plot involving space pirates, NO-powered brains, and a giant iron trying to flatten the planet. We debate whether Haruko is basically Bugs Bunny with a vespa and a spring-loaded boxing glove in a very uncomfortable location. Spencer also traces the origin story of his beloved character The Spleen back to a Twitch DJ persona called DJ Horny Smooth, and somehow it all makes sense. Along the way we cover the dual meaning of hate symbols, the South Park animation cameo, why cocking a gun and feeling cocky might be etymologically linked, and why the show is secretly about emotionally unavailable parents and small-town adolescent stagnation. Spencer gets deep, Kevin gets confused, and Spenpai gets HR-flagged again. We also debate whether Superman flying out of someone's house is canon. It is. Learn more about your ad choices.
