In this lively episode of the Identity at the Center podcast, hosts Jim McDonald and Jeff Steadman kick things off with a humorous mishap involving Jim's tech setup before diving into the latest happenings. They discuss the sweltering summer heat, Jim's recent "Greatest Dad of All Time" award, and their upcoming plans for Identity Week in Washington, DC. The highlight of the episode is a deep dive into the concept of "Federation Bubbles" with special guest Justin Richer, Security and Standards Architect and Founder of Bespoke Engineering. Justin explains the idea behind federation bubbles, a dynamic system designed to handle identity management in disconnected or disadvantaged environments. They explore real-world applications, such as military operations and disaster recovery scenarios, where traditional identity systems fall short. Justin also shares updates on his recent work, including the GNAP protocol and HTTP Message Signatures, and his involvement with the IETF's new working group, WIMSE (Workload Identity in Multi-System Environments). The conversation touches on the challenges and potential of these emerging identity standards, as well as the importance of context and trust in identity management. The episode wraps up on a lighter note with a discussion about Justin's board game project, "Natturuval" and the latest edition of "Cards Against Identity." New Zealand has won the first Fossil of the Day award at COP-28 in Dubai. Climate Change Minister Simon Watts says Labour got the same award last year. He says it's just a distraction from the summit's real business. Now the radio propagation report, compiled by G0KYA, G3YLA, and G4BAO on Thursday 9th of March 2023 It was business as usual last week with the solar flux index in the 180s, numerous C-class flares and, at the time of writing, 13 M-class flares over the past seven days. The Kp index has been mostly settled for this part of the cycle, averaging two to three all week. But this doesn't mean there has been little activity on the Sun, just that any eruptions have been directed away from Earth. For example, a large prominence eruption off the Sun on the 7th of March resulted in a coronal mass ejection that stretched hundreds of thousands of kilometres into space. It is this type of activity that makes space weather predictions difficult. If it had been Earth-facing, we could have ended up with a highly-raised Kp index and extensive aurora. As it was, the event had little or no effect on Earth. Maximum usable frequencies continue to be high, but we are starting to see the effects of the Summer ionospheric changes that will see daytime MUFs decline. The MUF over a 3,000km path often doesn't exceed 28MHz now until later in the morning. This is due to a seasonal change in the ionospheric chemistry and a shift from monatomic species to diatomic ones, which are harder to ionise. So, make the most of 10m as by mid-summer we may lose long-range propagation on 28MHz, other than through Sporadic-E events. We mentioned last week that this is a good time for North-South paths as we head towards the Spring equinox. That is, good paths to South Africa and South America are more likely now than they were a few months back. There have been a lot of stations on 10m in the late afternoon from South America so make the most of the propagation. Next week, NOAA predicts similar solar flux index figures, with the SFI being in the range of 170 to 185. The Kp index is predicted to be at two or three, with perhaps more unsettled geomagnetic conditions on Wednesday the 15th. As always, see solarham.net for more up-to-date information. And now the VHF and up propagation news The unsettled winter weather has yet to give way to spring, so it's primarily low-pressure systems and periods of rain or snow that we will be dealing with in the next week or so. Whether it's rain or snow, this unsettled pattern limits any Tropo options and leaves only GHz band rain-scatter as a propagation mode to explore. Generally speaking, the rain, or perhaps the point where the snow is melting as it falls, should provide better reflections, whereas, in very cold areas, where it is all snow, reflections may be weaker. This probably means that it will be southern areas that perform better with rain scatter. For the next few weeks, there are no significant meteor showers and therefore the pre-dawn random meteors will be the best options. Aurora, on the other hand, tends to favour the spring and autumn months, so in view of the current state of solar activity, as mentioned in the previous section, you should continue to monitor the Kp index for signs of activity and check the bands if it gets to the point that Kp equals five. For EME operators, after minimum declination this Thursday, Moon availability windows will start to lengthen. Path losses will continue to fall but we are still a week from the Moon's perigee – its closest point to Earth. 144MHz sky noise is high, reaching over 2,800 Kelvin on Thursday. And that's all from the propagation team this week.

I am the UNRIVALED REALIZER. I am known for humanizing the fastest path to inviting in and receiving 2-3X more money because I stand for UNAPOLOGETIC PROSPERITY. What I want for myself I want for everyone! My clients expand their prosperity, generosity, and legacy...WITHOUT more bandwidth, working longer/harder, or inconsistent results. After 20 years in the “corporate cubicle” side of the financial services industry, I had a crisis of legacy and could no longer see my impact on the world. I wanted proximity with clients. I wanted to make a bigger, bolder difference in my life and the lives of others. After 8 years on the client-facing side, I realized, that no matter their income level, the biggest money challenge people face is being unaware of how to keep, give and grow more so they can be, do and have more. In 2018, I founded Unrivaled Realizations LLC and created my signature group coaching program, Money Realities & Realizations. Through my discovery of the 7 Money Realities, I created a powerfully practical method for attracting and realizing more money. In 2019 I innovated a quick results program to add $9K+ to your bank account in 30 days or sooner. In 2020 I added 90-minute Money Acceleration Sessions to quickly identify the top 3 ways to add $3K+ to your life, and in 2021, introduced The 10K Day. I co-hosted a popular 2018 WTBQ weekly radio show, “Wall Street to Main Street, Money Matters that Matter.” I am a multi-time international best-selling author, a Certified Speaker by—and Lifetime Member—Of women's Prosperity Network (WPN), former Leader of WPN's Orange County Chapter 2016-2018, and a member, of Polka Dot Powerhouse – Diamonds (2020-2022) and Lead Up for Women (2021-2022). I gratefully support Thanksgiving Together, The Woodson Center, and USO. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities from New York University with honors. I am the proud recipient of New York University's Founder's Day Award for scholarly achievement. I reside in the scenic 4-season resort area of Northern Poconos in Pennsylvania with my husband and our cat and enjoy local nature walks, SCUBA, and good food. Professor Muhammad Yunus is a leader who transforms visionary ideas into practical actions which benefit millions of people around the world. He is a social entrepreneur, banker, economist, civil society leader and a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, globally recognised for pioneering the game-changing concepts of microcredit and microfinance. His revolutionary microloan system, designed to empower entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans, won Yunus and the Grameen Bank a joint Nobel Peace Prize for their ground-breaking contribution to economic and social development. Following a Fulbright scholarship to study economics at Vanderbilt University, Yunus returned to Bangladesh to head the economics department at Chittagong University. However, after observing the Bangladesh famine of 1974 Yunus found his true calling and became driven by his passion for impacting the poverty he witnessed. In 1976, during visits to the poorest households in the village of Jobra, he hypothesised small loans could make an exponential difference to those who would not qualify at traditional banks. Fueled by the belief that credit is a fundamental human right, Yunus secured a personal loan to lend to entrepreneurs in Jobra. By July 2007, Grameen had issued US$6.38 billion to 7.4 million borrowers and today the Grameen Bank has advanced to the forefront of a flourishing world movement eradicating poverty through microlending. The success of the Grameen microfinance model has inspired equivalent organisations in almost every nation in the world, in developing and developed countries alike. Many microcredit projects retain Grameen's focus on lending to women who typically suffer disproportionately from poverty but are renowned for their natural entrepreneurialism and ability to pay back loans at record rates. Currently, the Grameen Bank has nine million borrowers, 97% of which are women. For his ground-breaking contribution to social development, Professor Muhammad Yunus is one of only seven people to have received the Nobel Peace Prize, Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Congressional Gold Medal. He is also the recipient of numerous international awards for his ideas and endeavors, including the Mohamed Shabdeen Award for Science (1993), Sri Lanka; Humanitarian Award (1993), CARE, USA; World Food Prize (1994), World Food Prize Foundation, USA; lndependence Day Award (1987), Bangladesh’s highest award; King Hussein Humanitarian Leadership Award (2000), King Hussien Foundation, Jordan; Volvo Environment Prize (2003), Volvo Environment Prize Foundation, Sweden; Nikkei Asia Prize for Regional Growth (2004), Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan; Franklin D. Roosevelt Freedom Award (2006), Roosevelt Institute of The Netherlands; and the Seoul Peace Prize (2006), Seoul Peace Prize Cultural Foundation, Seoul, Korea. Yunus's visionary ideas and trailblazing fearlessness have been inspirational to countless people and have led to new systems and programs devoted to social causes all over the world. Yunus was named among the most desired thinkers the world should listen to by the FP 100, one of 12 greatest entrepreneurs of the current era by Fortune Magazine, one of Forbes “10 Most Influential Business Gurus” and is one of the most followed people on social media worldwide. They should learn that there are two kinds of businesses in the world. One is a business which makes money, and the other solves the problems of the world. It’s an academic exercise and what they do with that in real life will depend on them.” “I was feeling terrible that here I teach elegant theories of economics, and those theories are of no use at the moment with the people who are going hungry. So I wanted to see if as a person, as a human being, I could be of some use to some people.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Nancy Pearl—she’s been called “one of the 10 coolest librarians alive.” She’s the bestselling author of “Book Lust: Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment and Reason,” and a regular commentator about books on NPR’s Morning Edition. She’s the creator of the much loved and imitated If All Seattle Read The Same Book project, encouraging everyone in the city to read the same book at the same time. And then, of course, there’s the Nancy Pearl Librarian Action Figure with amazing push-button shushing action. A brilliant and entertaining storyteller, Nancy reveals how she became the “five-inch tall, plastic, non biodegradable librarian action figure with amazing push button shushing action.” She talks about her childhood library in Detroit—how it changed her life and provided refuge from her dysfunctional family. She gives tips on how to select books for people, and explains her Rule of 50 about when to give up on reading a book. She also talks about how “our leaders should be readers.” Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Nancy earned her master’s in library science at the University of Michigan and became a children’s librarian at her hometown library. She moved to Oklahoma with her husband, professor Joe Pearl, and raised two daughters while earning a masters degree in history. In Tulsa she worked in an independent book store and the Tulsa City-County Library System. In 1993 she was recruited to join the Seattle Library where she later became executive director of the the library system’s Washington Center for the Book. In addition to Book Lust, Nancy is the author of several other books including: Now Read This: A Guide to Mainstream Fiction 1978–1998 (and Now Read This II 1990-2001); Book Crush: For Kids and Teens; Book Lust To Go, Recommended Reading for Travelers, Vagabonds, and Dreamers; and her novel, George and Lizzie. Among her many awards, including the Library Journal’s 2011 Librarian of the Year Award, Nancy Pearl is the recipient of the coveted Kitchen Sisters’ Keeper of the Day Award (and trophy) presented at the American Library Association’s Conference in January 2019, at a special party sponsored by EveryLibrary, the national political action committee dedicated to the future of libraries, and bibliotheca, which connects libraries and their communities in new and effective ways. Nancy Pearl Librarian Action Figure is part of The Kitchen Sisters’ series, The Keepers, about activist archivists, rogue librarians, historians, collectors, curators —keepers of the truth and the free flow of information. Heard on NPR’s Morning Edition, on The Kitchen Sisters Present podcast, and at kitchensisters.org. The Kitchen Sisters Present is part of PRX’s Radiotopia, a collective of some of the best podcasts and audio storytellers on earth.

Another week, another episode! This week we are joined by Marisa Llamas, Amy Jane and Trevor Silverstein, three improvisers who treated us to some dark and hilarious comedy. In this episode, a story about the housing crisis inspires characters who will do anything for an apartment, ANYTHING (like move in before the dead guy is out). A scene involving the last line of The Great Gatsby and pencils gets weirdly sexual and Germany's very real Fossil of The Day Award took us to a rather strange world where Trevor actively becomes friends with people he hates. This episode is brought to you by Bear Radio with support from The Venue Berlin and Hindenburg. If you'd like to see our guests in action you can catch them at various shows at Comedy Café Berlin as part of their house teams and don't miss The BOSS podcast with Steindór and Trevor Silverstein recorded live every Thursday at 11pm at Comedy Café Berlin and shared on bearradio.org
Father and Daughter duo Ian Frazier and Cora Frazier, both humorists who write for The New Yorker magazine as well as a host of other prominent publications, will join Patty Limerick for a discussion—and many demonstrations!—of techniques for applying humor to contemporary issues that often carry strong emotional and political charge. With a principled absence of flowcharts, spreadsheets, cryptic theories, and quantitative analytics, the evening will feature free-roaming conversations, jokes, readings, plenty of laughter, unexpected insights, and perhaps even a surprise treat for the audience! “Ian and Cora Frazier lead the nation—and maybe the planet—as sharp observers and original thinkers,” Patty Limerick, Faculty Director of the Center said. “An evening in their company will reaffirm the value and power of humor, especially in difficult times.” The Fool for a Day Award was created to celebrate those individuals whose temperaments support the central conviction of the Center of the American West: a dose of good humor is essential to constructive public discussion, and not coincidentally, to public health. This event is made possible by the generosity of Bill and Jane Reynolds and is part of the Center of the American West’s Humor Initiative.

When I created UnFuckitup.com and our UnFucker of the Month Award, I had no idea how many people would join us in our campaign to UnFuck things up and to share what they were doing in the world. I think we're going to have to move to UnFucker of the Day Award soon! But things really took off when activist and writer, KATIE KLABUSICH of katiespeak.com took over. I interviewed her here about the unfuckers she is excited about and how unfuckery has become a way of life for her, how she avoids burn-out, and why she decided to speak up about her personal experiences with an unwanted pregnancy and abortion rights advocacy.
