The National Security Hour with LTC Sargis Sangari – The issue is larger than one man's vanity. It's the start of a new era, as we talk about the Sixth Doctor's rocky debut in The Twin Dilemma. With creepy twins, giant gastropods, and a throttled companion, fandom has consistently rated this story as one of the worst in the history of Doctor Who… but will the Watchers agree with that assessment? Join us as we discuss the creepy clown vibe of the Sixth Doctor, how terrible he is to Peri, his questionable sartorial tastes (and how he really isn't in a position to criticize Peri), and the questionable decision to introduce him at the end of a season. We also discuss the arrogance creeping into the production of the show, the new Doctor's apparent ACAB tendencies, how we meet the “chillest” Time Lord to date (and how he could have been utilised better), and the best way of dealing with a glut of gastropods. Meanwhile, Reilly discloses his intense dislike for men with curly hair (he's says he's working on it). Sebastian Schäffer wrote a book with his mentor arguing that the Balkans belong in Europe. Not eventually. Immediately. The mentor, former Austrian Vice-Chancellor Erhard Busek, died in March 2022, weeks after Russian tanks crossed into Ukraine and the argument the two of them had spent years making became the most urgent question on the continent. Schäffer is still making it. Born in Munich, he gave his career to somebody else's neighborhood. He directs the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe in Vienna, a think tank founded in 1953 and older than most of the European Union, and serves as Secretary General of the Danube Rectors' Conference, a network of more than sixty universities across the region. He founded SSC Europe in 2011 to run simulations and strategic foresight, which is also how he thinks: run the scenario forward, then ask what happens next. His own contribution to the field is a reversal. The Dilemma of Simultaneity described how post-Soviet states had to build democracy, markets, and nations all at once. Schäffer turned the mirror around and pointed it at Brussels, which now has to reform enlargement, reform itself, and become a real geopolitical power at the same time and under fire. In a July 2025 essay for Fair Observer, he wrote about an editor who asked him to stop using the word "disinformation" because it sounded too political. He refused, and called that kind of softening death by a thousand footnotes. What we get into: Why a man born in Munich built his life around the countries still waiting at Europe's door What "immediately" costs a person who has been saying it for fifteen years while institutions say "eventually" Why he treats a single word as worth fighting an editor over, and what he thinks gets lost when we let language go quiet

Rick Sharga, founder of CJ Patrick Company, discusses current housing market conditions and economic trends. Rick explains that despite mortgage rates tripling since the pandemic, the housing market has shown resilience with 49 consecutive months of year-over-year price increases, though sales volume remains down for three years. He noted that while affordability remains a challenge with a $40,000 wage gap for median-income buyers, recent data shows pending sales and mortgage purchase applications running ahead of last year, suggesting pent-up demand may soon drive market recovery. Rick highlighted that inflation concerns stem largely from energy price increases following the Iran conflict, and emphasized that wage growth continues to outpace home price growth, making affordability slightly better. He also discussed how builders currently face a 10-month supply of new homes while existing home inventory remains tight, creating opportunities for investors in both markets. You can't claim self-defense if you started the fight. In most jurisdictions, if you're seen as the first aggressor, you may lose the legal protections that justify the use of force—even if you find yourself in imminent danger later. Prosecutors may frame the incident as “mutual combat,” which undermines your self-defense claim. To stay protected under the law, you must be reacting to a threat, not instigating one.
SHE THREW AWAY EVERY FINANCIAL MODEL SHE HAD BUILT IN EIGHT YEARS ON WALL STREET. Whitney Johnson graduated from college with a music degree, arrived in New York newly married and broke, and took the only job she could get: secretary to a retail stockbroker. She watched the brokers around her open accounts and thought, I want to do that. So she took business courses at night. A boss took a chance on her and moved her into investment banking. Then, while she was pregnant and on the strength of good performance reviews, she was pushed into equity research, a move she did not want and that felt like a step down. It became the making of her career. She spent nearly eight years as an equity analyst and was Institutional Investor-ranked every single year. Then she read Clayton Christensen's The Innovator's Dilemma and realized disruption theory did not just explain the Latin American telecom stocks she covered. It explained her. She left Wall Street without keeping a single one of her models, cold-emailed Christensen one of her research reports, and eventually co-founded the Disruptive Innovation Fund with him. Today she is the CEO and co-founder of Disruption Advisors, ranked by Thinkers50 among the top ten management thinkers in the world, and the author of four bestselling books with a fifth on the way. In this conversation with host Laurie McGraw, Whitney breaks down the S Curve of Learning: why the launch point feels terrible even though your growth is mathematically at its fastest, what the sweet spot actually feels like, and why mastery is the most dangerous place to linger. IN THIS EPISODE - From music major to secretary to Institutional Investor-ranked equity analyst - The maternity-leave moment that turned an unwanted job into a career-maker - Reading The Innovator's Dilemma and realizing it applied to people, not just products - Leaving Wall Street and burning the bridges on purpose - How she reached out to Clayton Christensen, and what came of it - The S Curve of Learning explained: launch point, sweet spot, mastery - Why growth feels slowest at the exact moment it is fastest - Dopamine, inaccurate predictive models, and why beginners feel like imposters - Dr. Dan Siegel's "name it to tame it" and how to talk yourself through the discomfort - Why mastery is where careers quietly stall - "If I don't disrupt myself, the market will do it for me" - The research on women needing 100% of qualifications versus men needing 70% - Being judged on track record while men are judged on potential - Getting her hand slapped asking for compensation, and what she'd do differently - Sally Helgesen's How Women Rise and Sheryl Sandberg on naming the discomfort before the conversation - Whether Whitney still disrupts herself, and what that looks like now - AI as external disruption, and why self-regulation and calm are the real response - Pulling the stake out of the ground: self-limiting beliefs women carry - Her closing advice on connection, intuition, and discernment as superpowers Hosted by Laurie McGraw. Your zone of genius has an expiration date. The aggressive, controlling traits that built your company to a million dollars will prevent it from reaching fifty million. In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down the founder's dilemma and why clinging to daily control strangles your company's speed. In the beginning, you had to be the hero. But as complexity multiplies, insisting on making every decision becomes an ego trip. You cannot scale a legendary company by staying in the trenches forever. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why the traits that helped you start will stop you from scaling • How insisting on personal approval destroys organizational speed • Why legendary founders must transition from primary operators to board members • How stepping out of the way unlocks explosive, autonomous growth The truth is simple: You cannot steer the ship if you are rowing every oar. Drop the ego. Hire elite talent. Empower your executives. Build a machine that no longer needs you to survive. Your Network is your NETWORTH! Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met US President Donald Trump in Washington this week with a historic proposal: end the war between Lebanon and Israel, force an Israeli withdrawal from the south, and disarm Iran's proxy group Hezbollah. Could it work? On today's bonus episode of Iran: the Latest, Venetia Rainey speaks to Lama Amine, arts director at local charity Seenaryo, about the reality for civilians caught up in the conflict in Lebanon, how people are worried the latest escalation in Iran will spillover, and why Hezbollah would just be replaced by a similar group if it was disarmed. Plus, first-person accounts of what it's like to live under the shadow of war. Excerpts from pieces written for Seenaryo by Syrian refugee Eman Fisal Almodhi, read by Irish actor Jessie Buckley, and a WhatsApp conversation between Lebanese women displaced in south Lebanon, read by British-Lebanese-Palestinian actor Sirine Saba. On this mildly cooked episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down podcast, Tom and Matt are fresh out the “BGD Mines”! Wiping the sweat from their collective brow, they pop a gnarly squat and spin a cardboard tale…Both have been playing a spot of The Queen's Dilemma - the long-awaited follow-up to the King's Dilemma that somehow contains even more dilemmas. As well as that particular hot scoop, Tom's been playing some Railway Porters - another ‘20s themed Saashi Special where you try your utmost not to drop a suitcase on top of the waiting station master. And finally, there's a recap of the not-previously-podded games featured in our last video review. As a little experiment, we uploaded that last video to the podcast feed. It didn't quite sit right, so we've binned it off and replaced it with TRUE, NOVEL PODTHOUGHTS.Have a great week, everybody!Timestamps:7:06 - The Queen's Dilemma24:29 - Railway Porters30:23 - Yonder, HERD, No Loose Ends
Do you ever walk out of a room feeling completely drained or heavier than when you walked in? If you are an empath or a highly sensitive person (HSP), you aren't just hearing people—you are absorbing their emotional weather. In this episode of Calming Anxiety, clinical hypnotherapist and former frontline paramedic Martin Hewlett shows you how to stop bracing for other people's storms and start generating your own climate of peace. Using a powerful 4-2-6 breathing technique and an immersive aura visualization, you will learn how to build a protective shield of calm that reflects negativity, leaving you centered, grounded, and in complete control. Cold Intro"Do you ever leave a room feeling heavier than when you walked in? Like you've just absorbed someone else's negative energy without even realising it? If you're an empath or simply a highly sensitive person, today we're doing something different. We're not building a wall to keep people out. We're learning how to protect your energy by building a calm aura around you." Time Chapters00:00 – Intro: The Empath's Dilemma & Protecting Your Energy 00:38 – Welcome from Martin Hewlett & Settling In 01:21 – Paramedic Insights: Reading the Room vs. Changing the Climate 01:57 – The 4-2-6 Breathing Practice for Panic & Anxiety Relief 03:05 – Guided Aura Visualization: Creating Your Shield of Light 05:37 – Silent Hypnotherapy Affirmations for Grounding 08:25 – 3 Daily Caring Tips for Maintaining Your Emotional Boundaries 09:44 – Grounding Outro, Social Share & Closing Words AffirmationsRepeat these powerful phrases internally or whisper them to lock in your sense of peace and control: I am calm within this storm. Other people's storms move around me, not through me. I do not absorb what was never mine to carry. My calm is steady, even when the forecast around me changes. I am the climate I choose to create. 3 Daily Caring TipsTake these practical tools with you into the weeks and months ahead to protect your peace: Breathe Before You Enter: Before walking into a meeting, a room, or a tough conversation, take three mindful breaths and visualize your protective aura growing stronger. Let Storms Pass Through: Remember that you are human, not a weather system. If someone else's mood touches you, give it gentle permission to pass right on by. Audit Your Environments: Notice who in your life is consistently stormy. Be honest about how long you stand in the rain—you have full permission to shorten visits, take calls later, and protect your space. Share the CalmIf today's visualization helped you find your footing, please take a quick moment to share this episode on your social media feed. You never know which of your friends or loved ones might desperately need a 10-minute sanctuary of peace today. Smile often, my friend, and to your soul be kind.
