Networking is OUT. Relationship building is IN. And if you've been showing up to events, handing out cards, and rehearsing your elevator pitch and wondering why none of it is actually growing your brand or your business, this episode is about to change everything. In this episode, Kimberly Gayle breaks down why old-school networking is one of the most overrated, misunderstood strategies in personal branding — and what the new way actually looks like. Hint: it's relational, it's curious, it's generous, and it works. You'll learn the difference between networking and genuine connection, how to build relationships that are mutually beneficial and built to last, and the exact questions to ask at your next event that will make people actually remember you — for all the right reasons. Kimberly shares real stories from her own entrepreneurial journey — including the craft beer connection that became a lifelong friendship, opened every door in her industry, and led to the person who officiated her wedding — as the living proof that genuine relationship building is the most powerful personal brand strategy you will ever use. In this episode, you'll discover: Why the old networking playbook is killing your brand — and what to do instead The difference between transactional networking and genuine relational connection Selena Soo's Align, Attract, Activate framework for building rich relationships Real questions to ask at events that spark actual connection (and why "So, what do you do?" has to go) How to connect authentically online without being generic or performative Why discernment matters — and how to recognize when a relationship isn't mutual The 5-step Connection challenge to start building relationships that grow your brand this week Resource mentioned in this episode: Rich Relationships by Selena Soo Want to build a personal brand that actually attracts the right people and the right relationships? In this episode of the Trailblazing Texas Podcast, I sit down with Ranger Megan from Big Thicket National Preserve to explore one of the most misunderstood and wildly diverse landscapes in the National Park System. When most people hear “National Park,” they picture towering mountains or deep desert canyons. Big Thicket flips that script. Ranger Megan shares her journey with the National Park Service, what brought her to Southeast Texas, and why this preserve left such a powerful first impression. We dive into why Big Thicket is called the “Biological Crossroads of North America” and what that actually means on the ground. From longleaf pine forests and cypress sloughs to blackwater bayous and carnivorous pitcher plants, the Thicket isn't just one ecosystem—it's several, woven together. Megan breaks down how these habitats blend, what strange and surprising species call this place home, and why birders, botanists, and backpackers quietly consider this area a hidden treasure. We also get practical. What kind of hiking terrain should you expect? Are there paddle trails worth planning a whole trip around? Can you experience multiple ecosystems in just a few hours? Is this place more “boardwalk stroll” or “true wilderness”? (Hint: it's wilder than most people think.)Ranger Megan shares underrated trails, hidden gem areas, and what first-time visitors often underestimate about the Thicket. We talk seasonal timing, cell signal realities, trail maps, hazards like snakes and flooding, and why bug spray might be your most valuable piece of gear out here.On the conservation side, we unpack the real challenges facing Big Thicket today, from invasive species to prescribed burns, and how research and long-term planning are shaping the next 5–10 years of preservation. If you've ever wondered how you, as a visitor, can support a place like this, Megan offers simple but powerful ways to help protect it.Big Thicket may not have the dramatic skyline of the Guadalupe Mountains or the sweeping canyon views of Palo Duro, but what it has is depth. Layer upon layer of life. Subtle beauty. True wildness. If you've never considered exploring a swampy preserve… this episode might just change your mind.Tune in and discover why Big Thicket isn't just a stop on the map, it's an experience you feel.

In this episode of Power House, host Zeb Lowe sits down with mortgage marketing strategist Bri Lees to tackle one of the industry's biggest tensions: how to create marketing that's authentic, effective, and still compliant. Bri argues that bland mortgage marketing isn't a creativity problem; it's a leadership problem. When executive teams fail to define their compliance philosophy or brand identity, loan officers default to “safe” messaging that feels forgettable. With clear guardrails and alignment, she explains, companies can build marketing that feels human and differentiated without crossing regulatory lines. The conversation reframes compliance not as a creativity killer, but as a strategic constraint that, when clearly defined, can sharpen a brand's message and strengthen trust. In this powerful Language of Love conversation, I sit down with Dr. Russell Kennedy, The Anxiety MD, to completely rethink how we deal with anxiety. Russell is a neuroscientist, physician, and bestselling author of Anxiety Rx, and he shares his own story, from a chaotic childhood with a father struggling with severe mental illness to becoming a doctor who eventually burned out. A life-changing LSD experience showed him something incredible. Chronic anxiety is not a mind problem to fix with positive thinking. It is old alarm energy stuck in the body. We dig into how childhood wounds, trauma, and constant uncertainty wire your nervous system to stay on high alert, why worry becomes addictive, and how your body can hold onto memories long after your mind has forgotten. Russell also talks about intuition, sensitivity, and spirituality in healing, and why reconnecting with yourself is one of the most powerful ways to calm fear. Toward the end, I ask the question every anxious person I meet wants answered. When your body feels overwhelmed, how do you shift from alarm to safety? Russell shares simple, practical tools you can start using right away, tools that help your nervous system relax and bring you back to peace. We explore: Why anxiety is a body-based alarm, not a thought problem The difference between anxious thoughts and somatic fear How childhood trauma and separation shape adult anxiety The dopamine worry loop and why anxiety feels addictive The connection between anxiety, OCD, and unresolved grief How somatic practices calm the nervous system at the root Why reconnecting with yourself and something greater creates lasting healing Remember, healing is not something you do alone, and it was never about fixing what was broken. It's not hard to see that many people struggle to manage their money. Most people are, well, frankly bad with money. That is not a value judgment, or a comment about their character or willpower, or anything like that! Managing money is a skill, and skills can be improved with practice and a little guidance. In today's episode Ben and Ernie present five signs indicating you are bad with money, and offer some practical advice to how to get better. (Hint: it involves giving every dollar a job).   The five signs: You worry about everyday spending Every inconvenience is an emergency You live paycheck to paycheck You don't set aside money for yourself You don't change your plan   If any (or all) of these signs describe you, there is hope! Ben and Ernie used to feel like this too, and through the practice of giving their dollars jobs and thinking through what they needed their money to do for them, step by step, week by week, month by month, they improved and eventually got good with money.   You can too! Specifically, the class action plaintiffs got a series of pieces of bad news over the summer. But, in the midst of that bad news, the court gave an explanation that seems to hint at some hope, at least for Coffeezilla's defamation defense. If you thought the internet was a dumpster fire before, the EU LAUNCHES SECOND INVESTIGATION INTO GROK because Musk's bot won't stop generating nonconsensual imagery. Meanwhile, META LARGELY FAILS TO PROTECT KIDS FROM AI CHATBOTS, proving that their internal safety checks are about as effective as a screen door on a submarine. If that doesn't creep you out, AFTER RING PRIVACY BACKLASH over police partnerships, a LEAKED EMAIL SUGGESTS RING PLANS TO EXPAND ‘SEARCH PARTY' from finding lost dogs to total neighborhood surveillance. Of course, REDDIT, META, AND GOOGLE VOLUNTARILY GAVE DHS INFO on users critical of ICE, because why stand up for privacy when you can just comply? In the news, we look at OPENCLAW, OPENAI AND THE FUTURE as the project's founder joins the Borg, even though META AND OTHER TECH FIRMS PUT RESTRICTIONS ON USE OF OPENCLAW because it's basically a security hole that can click your mouse for you. Peak stupidity has arrived with RFK JR'S NEW CHATBOT giving rectal dietary advice, while AI COMPANIES BOUGHT OUT ALL OF WESTERN DIGITAL'S HARD DRIVES through 2026, meaning you can't have storage because the bots need it more. Even VALVE ADMITS STEAM DECK AVAILABILITY IS AFFECTED by this memory hoarding. We also touch on STEVE BANNON SUED OVER MAGA CRYPTO SCHEME, LOS ANGELES COUNTY FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST ROBLOX for being a safety nightmare, and the fact that TESLA ROBOTAXIS REPORTEDLY CRASHING at four times the human rate. TESLA DODGES 30-DAY SUSPENSION by simply killing the word "Autopilot," while NEW YORK HITS THE BRAKES ON ROBOTAXI EXPANSION to keep the chaos at bay. Finally, POLYMARKET WITHDRAWS EXPLOSIVE ARTEMIS BETTING MARKET because betting on dead astronauts is too much even for them, leading the ETHEREUM CREATOR STARTING TO THINK THIS WHOLE PREDICTION MARKET THING MIGHT BE GAMBLING. As NEVADA SUES KALSHI and Jack Dorsey oversees INSIDE THE ROLLING LAYOFFS AT JACK DORSEY'S BLOCK—using AI to summarize the misery of his employees—just remember: YOU'LL BE SORRY WHEN YOU HEAR WHAT JUSTIN BIEBER'S $1.3 MILLION BORED APE IS WORTH NOW. Hint: it's twelve grand. In this week's MEDIA CANDY, we've got FREE BERT, KAT WILLIAMS: THE LAST REPORT, and the eternal return of SHREK. We're checking out MARK ROBER on Netflix, the return of MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS, and the trailer for GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE. If you need a soundtrack for the apocalypse, Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq has you covered with STOP USING GENERATIVE A.I and the Gen-X anthem I'VE NO MORE F*S TO GIVE!.Moving to APPS & DOODADS, OBSIDIAN TO NOTES is a $14 well spent, unlike CURSOR and VISUAL STUDIO CODE which are getting bogged down by slow models. APPLE'S AI PENDANT sounds like a watered-down Humane pin that relies on your phone to think, and APPLE PODCASTS AND VIDEO remains a pipe dream because bandwidth costs money. We've reached the point where THERE'S A GRIM NEW EXPRESSION: “AI;DR” for things not worth reading, and THERE'S A NEW TERM FOR WORKERS FREAKING OUT over being replaced—AIRD, or AI Replacement Dysfunction—which is basically the low-grade panic of being made obsolete by a machine that thinks bananas go in your bum.AT THE LIBRARY, we're thumbing through CLEAVE THE SPARROW, THE REGICIDE REPORT by Charles Stross, and Robin Ince being NORMALLY WEIRD AND WEIRDLY NORMAL.Then we descend into THE DARK SIDE WITH DAVE, where the Muppets are taking over with THE MUPPET SHOW and MUPPETS NOW. We catch the latest on THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU and TOY STORY 5, while tracking the PENTAGON PIZZA INDEX to see if war is breaking out. For the kids, we look at a 3D PRINTER / ENTRY LEVEL FOR KIDS like the Bambu Lab A1, and for the nerds, A STAR WARS-CENTRIC RSS FEED and a NEAT IDEA FOR AN RSS READER, “CURRENT,” which lets news drift away like water under a bridge. We wrap it all up with some HORROR IN UNDER TWO MINUTES and IMPECCABLE COVERS OF 80S SYNTH MUSIC, because at least the 80s had better soundtracks than this AI-generated nightmare.Sponsors:DeleteMe - Get 20% off your DeleteMe plan when you go to JoinDeleteMe.com/GOG and use promo code GOG at checkout.SquareSpace - go to squarespace.com/GRUMPY for a free trial. Where is the debater of this age? All over the internet, apparently. The Apostle Paul would not be impressed, and neither should you. If the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God, how much more its folly! In the meanwhile, however, there is the real and contentious question of what, exactly, makes for God's wisdom and God's strength. Hint: if the answer does not include the cross of Christ, it fails the test. In this episode, Dad and I talk our way carefully through I Corinthians 1, 2, and a bit of 3 to discover how the foolishness of God exceeds human wisdom. We're in our EIGHTH year! And you still haven't backed us? Now that is the wrong kind of foolishness. Show your support by becoming a Patron!

We put our hands down our pants (for warmth) before this amazing episode! The main topic revolved around the Black Canyon 100k, where Jenn Lichter and Hans Troyer set course records, and the ultrarunning took another major leap forward. We discuss what we learned before laying out an overview of our ultra training philosophy. The sport is changing so fast that we're almost certainly wrong (and biased) in some places. But it's so fun to learn at the edges, and to see how that might apply to any athlete trying to see what's possible! We finish it off by looking for lessons that we can learn for shorter distance training theory. Hint: it's mostly carbs. And this one was full of great topics! Other topics: eating “real food” in workouts, Megan unleashing the speed on the treadmill, David's foot progress, Nomio back in stock, the debate on pacers in ultras, a wildly cool study on neurons and endurance adaptation, a weird cycling study that tricked participants with financial incentives, Tadej Pogacar accidentally (?) publishing his power numbers, and a question on metabolic processes and body image. We love you all! It's not about 14 income streams and burnout disguised as ambition. It's about leverage.Leverage over effort.Outcomes over deliverables.Focus over distraction. If your income is tied directly to your time, you're capped. When life feels loud and uncertain, “it will be okay” doesn’t always help. Amy and Kat talk about how to show up without fixing, why validation matters, and what real support looks like. They also share what they’re feeling of the day, what they're reading and watching, including immersion reading and a perimenopause documentary that sparked a conversation about hormones, relationships, and why everything can feel turned way up. Amy reflects on her divorce, what perimenopause may (or may not) have influenced, and why understanding your body matters. Plus, a heartfelt voicemail from a listener in Alberta reminds them why the randomness, laughter, and everyday conversations matter...especially in hard seasons. 5 Things to Say Instead of “It Will Be Okay”: 1. “Gosh, this sounds hard.”Lead with validation instead of solutions. Naming how difficult something feels helps people feel seen rather than fixed. 2. “What do you need from me right now?”Before giving advice, check in. Sometimes people want help, sometimes they just want to be heard...and they may not even know yet. 3. “Sounds like you’re having a very human reaction.”Normalize their response. Fear, anger, sadness, and overwhelm are often appropriate reactions...not signs something is wrong with them. 4. “I don’t know the right thing to say, but I’m here.”Be honest and present. You don’t need the perfect words to offer support...your presence matters more than certainty. 5. “I’m bringing you over cookies.”When asking what someone needs feels like too much, take the guesswork out and do something tangible. Send a textThe hype machine was loud, but the All-Star Weekend felt hollow. We dig into why the NBA's showcase struggles—uninspired dunk contest, no defense, low stakes—and why that emptiness mirrors a bigger cultural slip: when rituals replace purpose and optics outrun pride. We talk stars avoiding risk, formats that confuse novelty for meaning, and what it would actually take to make the event matter again. Hint: incentives that bite, peer pressure among top players, and a return to the identity of elite competition rather than a halftime show stretched to two hours. From there we pivot to a viral flashpoint on base: a standardized Security Forces gate greeting and the backlash it triggered. We're clear about intent—professionalism at the first point of contact matters—but we challenge the rollout. A public memo invited mockery for junior defenders and mistook scripts for substance. We offer a better path: handle expectations internally, empower SF leadership, and widen the principle to every office that greets people. Security, alertness, and respect come first; phrases should support the mission, not overshadow it.We wrap with a tough, necessary segment on Senior NCO Academy graduation photos—ill-fitting jackets, high-water pants, stressed buttons, crooked name tags. This isn't fashion policing. It's credibility. Senior NCOs set culture in the small visible things that signal how seriously we take the big ones. We lay out practical, layered fixes: personal responsibility, peer checks, class-leader inspections, instructor sign-offs, and a photographer empowered to pause the shot until it's right. If needed, you don't walk until you're squared away.It all connects: sports without stakes, scripts without substance, uniforms without care. Standards aren't about looking pretty; they're about trust, pride, and the message we send to our teams. If this resonated, tap follow, share with someone who cares about bringing pride back to the basics, and drop a review with your take on the All-Star fix and the right way to enforce standards.

What do most people regret at the end of their careers? According to legendary venture capitalist Bill Gurley, it's not the failures — it's the risks they never took. In this wide-ranging episode of The Puck, Jim Baer sits down with Gurley — longtime Benchmark partner, early Uber board member, and author of Running Down a Dream — for a candid conversation on boldness, bubbles, AI speculation, venture capital cycles, and America's structural challenges. Gurley reflects on: - Why “boldness regret” weighs heavier than failure - How to turn passion into mastery — and why most people don't - The resume arms race and why young people feel trapped - AI: real revolution or speculative excess? (Hint: both) - Venture capital's evolution — from discipline to burn-at-all-costs - Why five-year AI forecasts may set companies up to stumble - Regulatory capture in healthcare and education - State-by-state competition as America's hidden advantage From Austin's music scene to Silicon Valley's capital cycles, Gurley delivers battle-tested insights from decades at the center of tech's biggest waves. If you care about careers, markets, AI, or the future of the U.S. economy, this episode is essential listening.

The Daily Blast: Trump Blurts Out Hint of Weakness on ICE as Camps Anger MAGA Country

Donald Trump just claimed in an interview that the events in Minnesota suggest that ICE needs to use a “softer touch.” He also struggled to create the impression that he's been working constructively with local officials there. While all this is just spin, it reveals an awareness that these events have put him in a politically weak position. Indeed, this comes as Trump's plans for vast migrant prison camps are hitting angry opposition in unlikely places: In a deep red, partly rural county in Virginia; among Republican officials in other states; and even in Mississippi, where a GOP Senator has come out against a planned camp there. We talked to Brian Beutler, who's been arguing on his excellent “Off Message” Substack that Dems need to take charge of debates like these. We dig into the surprisingly robust backlash against Trump on immigration, why the prison camps present a big opportunity for Democrats, and why they must abandon the idea that Trump's 2024 win showed a big cultural shift against immigrants.  Looking for More from the DSR Network?
