Eagles Defense DESTROYS Lions | Full Reaction & Why This Team Can Win the NFC (Again)

The Philadelphia Eagles just destroyed the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football, and somehow I am both thrilled and on the brink of insanity. The defense might be the best in the NFL right now, while the offense feels like a weekly psychological experiment. In this episode of Birds vs Boys, I break down how the Eagles moved to 8–2, took control of the NFC East and the entire NFC, and why this defense is built to dominate in January. We talk about everything from Jared Goff going 2 for his last 18 to the Lions going 0 for 5 on fourth down, to how the Eagles defensive line absolutely obliterated Detroit's highly regarded offensive front. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Jaelan Phillips, Nolan Smith, Brandon Graham, Zach Baun, Nakobe Dean and the entire unit were everywhere. The secondary locked up Amon-Ra St. Brown (no dances this week!) and the big guys up front batted pass after pass at the line of scrimmage. Then we get into the ugly part. The Eagles offense. From penalties on the tush push, to missed deep shots, to strange play calls on third and short, I try to answer the big question everyone is asking: what does this offense actually do well right now? Is it coaching, execution, effort? Hint to all you kids out there taking standardized tests...choose all of the above. There is a catalog of specific plays to digest with Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and more that leave you dumbfounded how they could struggle THIS MUCH.We also look ahead to Eagles vs Cowboys next week in what I am calling the final test for this offense. No wind, no cold, a dome, and a Cowboys defense that has been vulnerable. If they cannot move the ball here, we have a real problem.

Show Notes Episode 259: “We're Not Gonna Take It” This week Host Dave Bledsoe puts a Twisted Sister pin on his uniform and drunkenly shouts at himself in the bathroom mirror just to feel like someone else is with him.  (The man is desperately lonely and drinking too much.  You know, just normal Dave stuff)  On the show this week we travel back to 1985 to examine the Parents Music Resource Council, an issue so unimportant and trivial to the modern context that it should distract you for a good half hour from all the crazy shit in the world.  (You're welcome) Along the way we meet the White Wives of Washington who decided it was their job to censor artists.  (They were the Karen's of the 1980s)  We introduce to you to each of the Filthy Fifteen the list of songs the PMRC deemed so vile and offensive that children must be protected from them at all cost.  (God forbid they learned about getting off from Cyndi Lauper!)  We hear from the artists who defended the list, even though some of the Metal songs are just BAD songs. (Not evil, just really  poorly written.)  Finally, we learn why Tipper Gore felt it was SO important we have warning labels on music.  (Hint, it was so parents didn't need to talk to their kids.) Our Sponsor this week is Columbia House Records, who want you to know they are back and they are coming for what they are owed.  We open the show with Dee Snider getting real with the Senate and close with Sunkissed Music being adorably rebellious! The focus shifts to the Giants' coaching chaos: they debate if the mid-season shake-up, placing Mike Kafka in charge, will provide a true evaluation of Joe Schoen's roster, or if any wins will be a "false representation" of a bad roster/front office. In this episode of What's Best for the Patient Is Best for Business, Jerry Durham delivers a solo deep dive into one of the most critical yet misunderstood areas of physical therapy business success: “Arrivals.”Speaking from the stage of the APTA Private Practice Section (PPS) conference, Jerry shares the philosophy, process, and practical tools behind improving patient arrivals—and why mastering this concept can solve nearly every downstream business problem in a PT clinic.Jerry explains how his years of studying the entire patient journey led him to realize that success doesn't start in the treatment room—it starts at the front desk. He honors the admin and intake teams who carry enormous influence over patient outcomes but are rarely empowered or trained to own that impact. In this talk, Jerry breaks down why PT clinics must stop trying to “fix problems in the weeds” and instead step back to design systems that guide the patient from their first call to successful completion of care. He introduces his five-step front desk sales process—a structured, relationship-centered approach to patient communication that builds trust, manages expectations, and prevents objections before they ever arise.Whether it's cancellations, no-shows, or poor reviews from patients who “got better but had a bad experience,” Jerry shows how the solution always leads back to understanding and optimizing the patient's arrival experience.Key Takeaways:- Arrivals Solve All Business Problems: Every business metric improves when patients show up. Focusing here simplifies management and reduces chaos across billing, scheduling, and clinical outcomes.- The Front Desk = Patient Success: The front desk isn't administrative—it's strategic. Their conversations determine not only who arrives, but how the entire journey unfolds.- Solve from the Big Picture: You can't fix recurring no-shows or cancellations by tweaking scripts. You must zoom out to understand the full patient journey and define success at every touchpoint.- The 5-Step Front Desk Sales Process: Acknowledge → Find a problem to solve → Get expectations → Sell the expert → Tell them what they'll get for their time, money, and energy → Ask how they want to pay.- Objections Are Preventable: “It costs too much” isn't an objection—it's a sign you didn't build value early enough. Great processes eliminate objections before they happen.- Love the Work of the Front Desk: These are the true doers in healthcare—the team most capable of improving patient success when empowered with the right systems and mindset.Tune in for a masterclass on patient experience design, front desk empowerment, and how truly understanding “arrivals” can transform your practice from chaotic to consistent, from transactional to transformational. Send us a textWhat if I told you that in most medical groups, the person in charge of your financial health might not fully understand half of your revenue? It sounds dramatic, but it's true. In countless physician practices and medical groups across the country, the CFO—the Chief Financial Officer—is responsible for the organization's entire financial picture… except when it comes to revenue cycle. That part? That's usually considered operations. Or billing. Or someone else's responsibility. The problem is, revenue cycle represents money in—the very top of the financial funnel. So if your CFO isn't actively overseeing how revenue is earned, coded, billed, collected, and followed up on… then who is? And more importantly, what is it costing you?Today we're going to explore the hidden—but very real—disconnect between Finance and Revenue Cycle in medical groups. We'll talk about how this structural divide came to be, what it costs you in real dollars, and what you can do to fix it. If you're a physician leader, an administrator, a CFO, or a board member, this episode is for you. Because it's time to bridge the gap—and start treating revenue cycle as a core part of financial strategy. Please Follow or Subscribe to get new episodes delivered to you as soon as they drop! Is it sleepy-time yet? Almost.  The McFarlands guide The Growing Season into the final stretch of the horticultural season on this week's episode of The Growing Season.Poppies kick off the show and Jack, Lynne and Matt McFarland discuss poppy bloom time and why they don't use many poppies on designs.  Hint:  think peonies. Why did poppies grow vigorously in Flanders Fields?  You'll be surprised to know. An extended version of "Imagine If You Will" takes the listeners back 100 years to find out how homeowners were prepping their flower beds for the winter in 1925. What were the major changes between what was happening then vs. now in fall garden prep? LOTS OF MANUAL LABOUR.  Seed saving was fashionable. Matt dives into "root cellars."  Weed prevention practices in 1925 will blow your mind. Jumping up 50 years into 1975 changes the rules of fall flowerbed prep. The trio discuss how they used to fall prep clients flower beds 20 years ago vs. what they do now.  It's a drastic difference.  Do you "rough up" the garden soil before the snow flies?   Do you cut the perennials down to the ground?   Do you fertilize? Willows are a pain in the bottom. You'll find out why. Should you be doing a heavy prune at this time of the year? There are two schools of thought. Catalytic converters and leaves.  Its a thing.  The five most common mistakes made during "bed time" are discussed. How do you address those piles of leaves in an efficient manner?  Tune in. What do you wish I asked this guest? What was your "quotable moment" from this episode? Ten years of spark, craft, and community converge in Arlington, Texas. I sat down with Kacie from Kacie's Corner to share everything you need to know about the 10th annual DFW Pagan Unity Fest. From a full day of vendors and hands-on learning to a public Yule ritual and a charity raffle for the North Texas Food Bank, this milestone gathering shows how modern pagan community thrives when service, celebration, and storytelling come together. We walk through the schedule so you can plan your day: a free festival on Saturday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 2001 California Lane on the UU church grounds. Expect returning favorites and new artisans, including holistic healers and regional artists, plus the final appearance of a beloved vendor, Venus 6 Gallery. Classes in the Grove run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., opening with Harvest in Gratitude by Jennifer Culver and closing with Kacie's Webs of Community workshop focused on building real, resilient connections. At 3 p.m., Jormungandholl DFW leads a community Yule ritual right in Vendors Village, bringing intention and warmth to the heart of the fest.We also spotlight the annual raffle that turns shared excitement into direct impact. Vendors donate prizes, we're adding a spell box to the pool, and every ticket supports the North Texas Food Bank, which serves both the Dallas–Fort Worth metro area and surrounding rural communities. You'll also hear about the new Community Corner co-sponsored by Kacie's Corner and Your Average Witch, where you can drop in, make simple crafts, and meet people without pressure. If you're local, this is your invitation to experience the region's largest pagan community day firsthand; if you're visiting, it's a welcoming entry point into DFW's vibrant scene.Join us for the details, stay for the heart, and bring a friend. Tonight, we are trying a Kabinett Riesling from Mosel, Germany. Just for some added fun we also have an Emma Reichart Dry Riesling from Rheinhessen, Germany. So what is a Kabinett (Cabby – Net) and what are other words used to describe the sweetness in German wines. Trocken is the German word for dry. Kabinett has crisp acidity, green apple, citrus and delicate floral notes. Good for an aperitif and pair nicely with light seafood dishes and salads. Dry to a little sweet. Spatlese is a late harvested wine so will have riper stone fruit, touches of honeyed and tropical notes, and acidity. These wines pair well with spicy foods and soft cheeses. Auslese is made from fully ripe fruit and may even have some “Nobel rot”. It has flavors of apricot, honey, and caramelized apple. Pairs with desserts and strong blue cheese. Hint: you can often tell the level of sweetness from the alcohol level. Anything over 11% alcohol will typically be dry. Less than 11% will probably have some level of sweetness. Tonight, our two wines are: 2023 Karl Kaspar Riesling Kabinett. It is an off-dry Riesling with a classic Mosel profile. Intense mineral and floral aromas, low alcohol and a wonderful balance between sweetness and crisp acidity. The grapes come from two single vineyard sites of stoney, slate soil. Grapes of different ripeness levels are used. 45% Riesling Spatlese from middle Mosel and 55% Riesling Kabinett from the lower Mosel. Fermented in stainless steel tanks. Serve well chilled. Excellent aperitif or with fish or poultry. 2024 Emma Reichart Dry Riesling. This wine was purchased from Trader Joe's for $5.99 and comes from the Rheinhessen region of Germany. Flavors of peach, citrus, and slate. Crisp. The wine received a Bronze Award and a score of 88 from Decanter. This is considered a medium-dry wine with residual sugar from 5 to 18 g/L. It has 11.5% alcohol. We both liked the wines and gave them a three rating. Denise liked the Emma Reichart, but I found it to be a little sweet and lacked the balance of the Karl Kaspar. Next week, we return to the USA. We will taste the hybrid wine grape Baco Noir. The wine comes from New York, and we will also talk about its wine industry.

We are studying the Book of Isaiah. What I hope I can impress on you is God's faithfulness and see some things in chapter 26 that I think are relevant to the time in which we live. Isaiah 26:19. See if this reminds you of any other passage you may have read. "Your dead shall live together with my dead body." Sounds like 1st Corinthians 15; sounds like 1st Thessalonians 4 sounds like John 14. What did Jesus say? "Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in me. In My father's house are many mansions. I'm going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again." That's a promise. "... So that where I am, you may be also." He's preparing a place for us right now. We'll look at what Isaiah says. "Together with my dead body. They will rise awake and sing. You who dwell in the dust. For your dew is like to dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead." Isaiah 26:20 "Come, my people, enter into your chambers, shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment until the indignation is passed." What is the indignation? The indignation, of course, is the tribulation judgments. I call your attention to the little word "until" it's very important. In relation to the history of Israel. There are three "until's" in the Bible that have been given only to the nation of Israel. 1) Matthew 23:39. "You will not see me until you say, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. 2) Luke 21:24 "Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. 3) Romans 11:25, "I would not have you ignorant," Paul says, "that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in." What is the fullness of the Gentiles? What is the coming in? Well, the fullness of the Gentiles refers to the harvest of the Gentile church. And the coming in, I believe, coincides with the invitation here come and hide yourself, for a little while. Isaiah 26:21, "For the Lord is coming out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth will disclose her blood, and will no more cover her slain." You and I have a bright future. Our world is not. The future for this world is grim. God is faithful. Ten areas God is faithful to you and I: 1) He is faithful to forgive our sins. First John 1:9. Thank God for that one. It's not just once for all. It's as often as we come and confess. 2) God is faithful to keep us safe. 2nd Timothy 2:13 "Even if we're unfaithful, as Paul says, "He remains faithful." 3) God is faithful to deliver us through our temptations. 1st Corinthians 10:13. 4) God is faithful to keep his promises to us. Hebrews 10:23. 5) God is faithful to us in times of suffering. 1st Peter 4:19 6) God is faithful in fulfilling his plan for us. This, of course, requires our cooperation. 1st Thessalonians 5:24 7) God is faithful to strengthen us in times of trial. 2nd Thessalonians 3:3 8) God is faithful as a partner to us in our union with Christ. 1st Corinthians 1:9. 9) Jesus Christ is a faithful and merciful high priest to us. Hebrews 2:17. 10) Last but not least, Jesus Christ is the synonym for faithfulness. Revelation 19:11, "I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse. I can't wait. When we come back with him, we're going to be riding on white horses. Don't worry if you've never ridden. There will be riding classes during the tribulation, but. My friend, if I've done nothing for you today, that planted in your mind, and I hope that it's burned there indelibly. When you're struggling, when you're hurting, when you're overburdened, when your soul is aching. When you're lonely. When the world looks dark. When you can do nothing but cry. When you can't even lift up your head and look up. I want you to remember God is faithful. He always has been. He always will be. Trust him because he can only prove that faithfulness as you and I come to him with simple, childlike faith. Don't let the devil lie to you about who you are. Let God tell you who you are in Christ, and it'll make all the difference in the world.

This week, we're recording on Driftglass's birthday while he's still battling a cold and sounding disturbingly like RFK Jr. meets Broderick Crawford—so we're keeping it simple and direct. Why should Democrats stop accommodating Republican sociopaths who inflict pain on their own base as leverage? And what happens when Democrats finally say "let them burn" instead of rushing to pay the ransom? Why are there focus groups with Trump voters but never with the Democratic base? Why is it always the Democrats' job to accommodate the ego, bigotry, stupidity, and paranoia of fragile white men? Why are on-air consultants auditioning for paydays by insisting Democrats move to the "reasonable center"? And what polls amazingly well that none of these hired guns want to talk about? (Hint: getting money out of politics.)Happy Birthday, Driftglass. Get well soon.  (And Happy Halloween, everyone!) Link for this episode:  The Editorial Board (John Stohr), "Republicans are used to burning their own people as leverage."  https://www.editorialboard.com/the-republicans-are-used-to-burning-their-own-people-as-leverage/ Not safe for work. Turns out medical students are regular humans who happen to need to memorize the Krebs cycle We've all got that mental image of medical students – the type-A perfectionists grinding through textbooks even on the porcelain throne, right? Well, our first-year medical students at Iowa are about to blow up every assumption you've ever had. Turns out the people memorizing a zillion anatomical structures aren't exactly who you'd expect. M1s Chase McInville, Lillian Schmidt, Jonah Albrecht, and Abbie Townsend reveal why your pre-med study plans are probably useless, how a hockey ref's confidence translates to patient care, and why some medical students refuse to study on Saturdays. We explore the real traits that matter (spoiler: it's not being a genius), bust the myth about cutthroat competition, and discover why medical school might actually be more collaborative than your average undergrad group project. Plus, we settle the burning question every pre-med wants answered: can you actually prepare for medical school, or should you just go backpacking in Europe instead? These Short Coats share what non-medical experiences shaped them most, from building houses with Habitat for Humanity to working political campaigns to reffing hockey games to farming vegetables with zero agricultural background. This isn't your typical “day in the life” medical school content. We're talking about the messy reality of learning to learn again, the unexpected diversity of personalities in short white coats, and why the smartest thing these students do might be admitting they don't know everything. The episode ends with the Short Coats working together to hash out the vibes of med student life. Hint: there should really only be five nerves.
