He has worked with the Congress of Racial Equality, Newark Community Union Project, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), the Black Panther Party, the United Automobile Workers (including eight years on auto assembly lines) and the New Directions Movement. He was also active as a leader of SDS faction the Weathermen, which later became the militant left-wing organization Weather Underground. He was arrested in September 1969 for participation in a direct action against the Harvard Center for International Affairs and sentenced to two years in prison on charges of conspiracy to commit murder after two bullets were fired through a window of the Cambridge police headquarters on November 8, 1969. He was instrumental in the movement that helped to keep a General Motors assembly plant in Van Nuys, California open for ten years. Mann has been credited for helping to shape the environmental justice movement in the U.S. He founded the Labor/Community Strategy Center in Los Angeles, California and has been its director for 25 years. In addition, Mann is founder and co-chair of the Bus Riders Union, which sued the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for what it called "transit racism", resulting in a precedent-setting civil rights lawsuit, Labor Community Strategy Center et al. v. MTA. The Netflix documentary "Sean Combs: The Reckoning" presents some of the most damning allegations ever made against the disgraced music mogul — and the most explosive involve two murders that changed hip-hop forever. In this breakdown, we examine the documentary's claims about Diddy's alleged role in the deaths of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G., including never-before-heard audio from Keefe D's 2008 proffer session where he alleges Combs offered a million-dollar bounty on Tupac and Suge Knight. We walk through the testimony of Bad Boy co-founder Kirk Burrowes, who kept detailed journals during his years at the label and now claims Combs was "insanely jealous" of Biggie and Tupac's friendship.  Burrowes alleges Combs cancelled Biggie's London trip and kept him in Los Angeles despite the danger — and that after Biggie was killed, Combs allegedly tried to charge the funeral costs back to the dead rapper's estate. The Netflix documentary "Sean Combs: The Reckoning" presents some of the most damning allegations ever made against the disgraced music mogul — and the most explosive involve two murders that changed hip-hop forever. In this breakdown, we examine the documentary's claims about Diddy's alleged role in the deaths of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G., including never-before-heard audio from Keefe D's 2008 proffer session where he alleges Combs offered a million-dollar bounty on Tupac and Suge Knight. We walk through the testimony of Bad Boy co-founder Kirk Burrowes, who kept detailed journals during his years at the label and now claims Combs was "insanely jealous" of Biggie and Tupac's friendship.  Burrowes alleges Combs cancelled Biggie's London trip and kept him in Los Angeles despite the danger — and that after Biggie was killed, Combs allegedly tried to charge the funeral costs back to the dead rapper's estate. We also cover the response from Biggie's estate manager Wayne Barrow, who denies the funeral allegation entirely. Rams Week Arrives With a Thin Secondary The Detroit Lions turn from a satisfying win over Dallas to a brutal test. The Los Angeles Rams bring Matthew Stafford, Davante Adams, and Puka Nakua. That is elite NFL firepower. Detroit's secondary is shredded. Terrion Arnold is on IR. Brian Branch is out for the season after Achilles surgery. The Detroit Lions will miss his burst and instincts. Eight to twelve months is the window. Explosiveness is the concern. Kirby Joseph has not played since Cincinnati. A knee has stalled him for two months. It is extremely unlikely he plays this week. Even if he suits up, rust would be real. That leaves a patchwork back end. DJ Reed is back and looked spryer against Dallas. Amik Robertson has been targeted and tested. Some of that is opponent selection. Some of that is the lack of reliable safety help. Rakusin can fight through contact. He can body up bigger wideouts like Nakua. He has seen Adams before. There is a path to competence on the outside if leverage and help are right. Depth could matter. Names like Dorsey and Whiteside linger as emergency snaps. A grand jury is actively hearing evidence in the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez — and what's coming out of that Los Angeles courthouse is raising serious questions about who knew what and when. Robert Morgenroth, the head of D4vd's record label Mogul Vision and president of his touring company, reportedly testified for three days. He was overheard telling his attorney that prosecutors grilled him on why he didn't call police — and his response was that he "didn't feel it was his responsibility" and "just wanted to continue with the tour."  Now a female witness is facing arrest after refusing to appear, with Deputy D.A. Beth Silverman seeking a body attachment to compel her testimony. She shares an attorney with Morgenroth. D4vd remains a suspect in the eyes of LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division. Investigators reportedly have tracking data placing him in a remote area of Santa Barbara County in the middle of the night during Spring 2025 — the window when Celeste is believed to have died. A second suspect has been identified who allegedly helped with the dismemberment. Celeste's remains were found in D4vd's abandoned Tesla on September 8, 2025. No cause of death has been determined. Paiute and Shoshone tribes in California’s Owens Valley are facing a shortage of water—an issue that spans decades, but is now exacerbated by climate change. The city of Los Angeles, more than 200 miles away, is guzzling one-third of the groundwater in the region. The city’s diversion of water from the valley began in 1913. L.A. drained Owens Lake dry within a decade. The land, once lush with springs and streams, is now a parched landscape that hinders tribes' access to culture and economic development. Also, we’ll hear about how a proposed weakening of federal protections for the majority of the country’s wetlands could affect tribes. Tribes manage millions of acres of wetlands. The Trump administration seeks to limit the EPA’s authority on how it regulates pollution under the Clean Water Act. As the wildfires ravaged across Los Angeles in January, planes throughout the region began dropping bright red fire retardant onto hillsides and homes in an effort to rein in the fires. Earlier this year, LAist partnered with researchers at USC to test samples of the fire retardant gathered from fire zones in the weeks after the Palisades, Eaton and Franklin fires where it remained on the ground. Those tests, including tests conducted on unused samples of the retardant, found toxic heavy metals including lead, arsenic, cadmium and chromium. These toxic heavy metals can accumulate in the environment and pose risks to humans and wildlife, according to federal and state environmental agencies. Joining us to discuss their investigation on the heavy metals found in the fire retardant used during the recent wildfires is LAist science reporter Jacob Margolis.With files from LAist.

Venceu não apenas o medo de nadar no mar, mas também a competição, inaugurando o que seria uma nova oportunidade de permanecer na natação e testar seu potencial nas maratonas aquáticas. A partir dali, o potencial se transformou em resultados. Em 2006, conquistou duas pratas no Campeonato Mundial de Águas Abertas. No Pan do Rio de Janeiro, em 2007, levou a prata nos 10 km; em 2008, estreou nos Jogos Olímpicos de Pequim, terminando em sétimo lugar; e, em 2009, viveu uma temporada histórica ao vencer nove das onze etapas do circuito mundial, conquistando a Copa do Mundo de Maratonas Aquáticas. No mesmo ano, garantiu o bronze no Mundial de Esportes Aquáticos, tornando-se a primeira nadadora brasileira a conquistar uma medalha na história da competição. Em 2011, nos Jogos Pan-Americanos, levou a prata e, no Mundial de 2013, alcançou o ápice com ouro nos 10 km, prata nos 5 km e bronze na prova por equipes. Em 2016, nos Jogos do Rio, conquistou o bronze na prova dos 10 km da maratona aquática, tornando-se a primeira brasileira a ganhar uma medalha olímpica na natação. Encerrou a carreira em 2017, ano do lançamento de sua biografia, e logo depois iniciou uma nova fase: junto com o marido, criou uma assessoria de natação em águas abertas e uma travessia que leva seu nome. Em 2021, fundou seu Instituto e, desde 2020, trabalha na agência VEGA Sports. Contudo, sua conquista mais festejada veio em 2021, com o nascimento de Lucca.
