Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we sadly conclude our series on Interstate '76. Poor Tim could not really play the game at all, so we're going to have to let this one go, but we'll still talk about a few things. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Up to Mission 10 (B) Issues covered: Tim being unable to get the game running, other cultural objects disappearing, physics implementation details from an implementer!, PC compatibility testing, running down bugs even today, flight stick vs controller, acceleration and turning, independent throttle, analog triggers on modern controllers, easy difficulty, getting a lot out of a few cars, making cars seem smarter, lack of uncanny valley, feeling a whole story in a mission, level design vs mission design, repetitive missions in other games, rewarding you with movies, impersonating a President, committing to a stylistic identity, standing out from the crowd, leveraging an IP shift, moving around between teams, the other game made with the same fiction, working remotely in the games industry, fear and trust. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Nosferatu, Moby Dick, Typee, Omoo, Emily Dickinson, Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit, Phil Salvatore, Carlos, Julio Jerez, Daniel Stanfield, Starfighter (series), Quake, Tomb Raider, Ultima Underworld, Trespasser, TIE Fighter, Wing Commander (series), George H. A clever mix of stakes material and spiritual? A return to Lothal, only to find it terribly transformed under the industrial violence of the Empire? A series of episodes where Ezra and Sabine really click as complementary characters? Oh, we are so back. And we won't even let the kind of forgettable (but basically enjoyable) fourth episode of this set bring us down. Support the show by going to Patreon.com/civilized! (AURN News) — At least 14 United Nations peacekeepers were killed and many others wounded when M23 rebels, backed by Rwanda, attacked U.N. positions in eastern Congo, the latest casualties in an escalating conflict that has forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes. The attacks took place between January 23 and 24, when M23 rebels fired on positions held by the U.N. stabilization mission known as MONUSCO. U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres warned that attacks against U.N. personnel may constitute a war crime and called for an immediate investigation. He also demanded M23 cease hostilities and withdraw from occupied areas, while also calling on Rwandan defense forces to end their support of M23 and pull out of Congolese territory. The violence has triggered a humanitarian emergency in the region, with civilians facing dire conditions. "A major surge in violence in the eastern region of DRC has led to hundreds of thousands of people fleeing multiple active conflict zones," said Shelley Thakral, head of communications for the World Food Program in Congo. Thakral shared the updates during a special U.N. briefing on Tuesday. "WFP's priority is keeping staff and their dependents safe," Thakral said. "Only critical WFP staff remain in the area, and once the security situation improves, we can resume our emergency assistance and operations." The situation continues to deteriorate, according to Thakral. "There are growing protection concerns as hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in and around Goma," she said. "Many are exposed to gender-based violence and with limited access to food, safe clean water and income, the risks facing the populations hour by hour, day by day will only increase in these volatile conditions." X-wings and Major Plot Development, here we come. The rebel assault in "Rebel Assault" (Rebels S4, 9) goes off with a bang, but then goes down in flames. With our heroes on the run or worse, the Loth-wolves have important information to share with Kanan. However, "Jedi Night"(Rebels S4,10) breaks the mold about what a star wars episode is, and we are left dealing with devastating fallout both on Lothal and in the hearts of watchers. We still have more of Rebels S4, but the stakes have never been higher for what will happen on Lothal. Send Us Your Thoughts: S4 of Rebels is a short one…and new shows have come out since we started.

The post-work podcast strikes again and the boys are even less coherent than usual. Matt and Will try to avoid dragging the podcast down into the scatological screeching of the past two episodes. They instead discuss a group of loud, outspoken people they could do without. Reviews include an awesome album nobody has ever heard of (The B.U.M.S. Lyfe N Tyme) and a terrible videogame that they'd never recommend to their worst enemy (Star Wars: Rebel Assault). Listen closely for when they become totally unhinged around minute 57. You've been warned. Find us @whatupbrothapodcast on Instagram so you can see Matt's stock photo collection.

Was machte Rebel Assault aber so besonders ? Imagine being present during the golden age of the dinosaurs, or traveling back to witness the rise of Athens, the fall of Rome, or the incredible first flight of the Wright brothers. The awe and wonder you would feel watching those first few moments of the moon landing, or the emotional ride of Banting and Best taking their first steps towards saving the lives of millions of people every year. Well, now is your chance to turn the clock back and witness a moment that is of equal gravity and impact on the history of the human species. Jay and Benny are proud to present a B-Side more anticipated and coveted than anything hacks like The Beatles and NIN ever crapped out. While we sort out a couple of mid-life crisis situations, and while Jay uses medication to hold down his vomit while editing our upcoming Transformers (1986) episode, please enjoy this short introduction prologue - the first episode we ever recorded, which has lain dormant and unreleased until this moment. The crew of the way return from a dangerous detour codenamed the "Dollhouse," a derelict Imperial research vessel whose inhabitants stalked our fearless fringers as they tried to loot the abandoned ship. Barely escaping with their lives, they return with a haul of scavenged supplies to trade for credits and information on a safe route into the uncharted Lehon system. However, Elo also returns with a haunting souvenir, a mask belonging to one of the abhorrent experiments aboard the derelict ship, a strange reminder of some elusive element of Elo's program, buried deep beneath their circuits and memory. The crew returns to the Ring of Kafrene to sell off their goods, get some well earned R&R, and begin their next journey into the unknown regions of Wild Space. Mit dabei sind Erlebnisse mit unsterblichen Meilensteinen wie The Secret of Monkey Island, Doom, Tomb Raider, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Duke Nukem 3D, Gran Turismo, Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, Command & Conquer, Super Mario 64, Rebel Assault, System Shock, Resident Evil und dem Bundesliga Manager Professional. Here at Medium Retro, we love Star Wars. Yeah, yeah, we know, not a surprising admission from a couple of lifelong nerds, but for Micah, this episode is very special, taking him back through years of his youth playing classic Star Wars titles like Dark Forces and Shadows of the Empire. For Jono, well….he kind of missed the boat on these classic games. It’s a fun discussion of pure nostalgia and discovery and spans an entire decade of Star Wars titles, both good and bad.We cover a variety of Star Wars games, including X-Wing, Rebel Assault, Super Star Wars Trilogy, Dark Forces, Shadows of the Empire, Jedi Knight - Dark Forces II, and Star Wars Episode 1: Racer. We also add segments for the the first time and dig into Star Wars beyond the games. We hope you enjoy episode 3 of Medium Retro! Our aim is to be completely fan-funded, so please check out our Patreon at mediumretro.com or by going to Patreon and searching for "medium retro." Welcome to another episode of I'll Show You Mine! We're celebrating the end of December, aka Star Wars season, with two of the early Star Wars video games that were released in the years between the end of the original trilogy and the release of the Special Editions in the late 90s, "Star Wars: Rebel Assault" and "Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2, The Hidden Empire"Join us as we play through as much as we can stand of the original, brutally difficult "Rebel Assault" and discuss the more detailed plot and easier mechanics of the sequel. We marvel at the similarities between Luke Skywalker and the star of "Hidden Empire," Rookie One and answer the age-old question, at the end of the day, can you look at this thing and call it a Star War?Our next episode will be January 10th, when Elyse shows James "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" from 1976.Follow @isympodcast on Twitter for show updates and more, and be sure to check out twitch.tv/sparkmandesigns for streaming games and art!Our theme song is:Dreams by Joakim Karud @joakimkarudCreative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported— CC BY-SA 3.0 creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/

In this first episode discussing recently remastered LucasArts classic Day of the Tentacle, we talk about the influence of adventure games generally and the reputed mis-reporting of games being dead, as well as talking about the format of this game in particular. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. I'm back! I'd said that my time off (the "sabbatical") was only temporary, and that I planned to return to the microphone to continue Boardgames To Go. And that's just what happened. During the year that I've been away from this podcast, I've still been playing plenty of games, which you can read about. I've been doing more wargaming, which you can hear about. And perhaps you've seen or heard me at BGGcon or on other podcasts & videocasts. Which means I was never really gone. Nonetheless, those things are different from producing my own boardgame podcast, and I'm happy to be doing that again. To kick off my return, I'm featuring a roundtable discussion with a bunch of friends after we played a full day of Star Wars-themed boardgames. You may recall that I once grumbled about boardgame themes that were for kids (including kids that never grew up), not grown-ups. I have to admit I still feel that way about most games involving goblins, zombies, or spaceships. BUT...you're all welcome to call me a hypocrite when it comes to Star Wars. Here is where I cave. I was in 5th grade when A New Hope was released, and it may not be an exaggeration to say it changed my life. I'd decided to be a "spacecraft architect" the year before, and that's sort of what really happened in my life, but Star Wars probably sealed the deal. I remember talking with a college classmate who had a similar experience, and she grew up in Singapore. What an influence! Back in 1977 I was everything Star Wars. My brother & I saw the film many times in the theater. I had the LED watch, the belt buckle (this was the 70s), the t-shirt, the action figures, the X-wing, the LP records... When the prequels came around my kids were the perfect age to enjoy them with me. Now that the new movies are upon us, I'm loving the fact that they're December releases, so even though they're away to college (& beyond), we can still enjoy them as a family over the holidays. Star Wars has always been an important part of my life. What about Star Wars games? Well, yes, kind of. It took a long while for some really good games about these favorite movies to arrive on the table. I had the vintage Escape from the Death Star game, but it's not good. We played some Star Wars RPG when it came out in the 1980s, and a couple of the associated wargames. (Star Warriors was tedious, but Assault on Hoth was good.) Though I'm only a casual computer and videogamer, in the 2000s I definitely had wonderful times playing Rebel Assault, Rogue Squadron, Battlefrontand others with my son. Anything we could play co-op was our favorite. More recent years have produced quite a few family strategy games with a Star Wars subject. Oddly enough, the prequels have some of the best games, probably because that's just when Craig Van Ness and Rob Daviau at Hasbro were doing incredible things with the production capability of that mainstream publisher. Other publishers, too, however. Now we're seeing a resurgence in Star Wars boardgames, like an awakening in the Force... I invited some friends over to play several of these titles for a Star Wars-themed game day, and then flipped on the recorder to have a roundtable discussion of them. Enjoy! -Mark P.S. AFTER the Star Wars game day we learned about the Black Series (aka deluxe) edition of the Risk game. It addresses most of our grumbling about the production shortcuts in the mass market edition we played...but not all of them. I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money. And I've already bought a couple MicroMachines to get figs for the Falcon and Executor in my game.
In this third episode discussing Final Fantasy IX, we welcome a bunch of new listeners. We return to talking about themes, some of which are evolving, but also pacing and combat balancing.
