(As a writer do you cringe a little when you see what companies are putting out there?) -Showing that they clearly didn't proofread: straight-up bad grammar, blatant misspellings, strange capitalizations, like "We serve all Businesses," incorrect use of apostrophes - like your's instead of yours, or dog's instead of dogs -Overly formal or trying-too-hard-to-be-proper-or-professional, resulting in outdated or fuddy-duddy or unrelatable copy -Copy that sounds like someone wrote it at 3 am, trying to be too casual, conversational or stream of consciousness -Too much copy or too little copy in a certain amount of space on a website, like on the above the page copy on a home page -Making the copy all about themselves, rather than about the problems (or goals) they can solve for their customers -Similarly, focusing on features, rather than on benefits. Like "Plenty of staff." What does that mean for customers? "A human will always answer your call." - Not telling enough about your company—origin story, your why, what you support, what makes you tick, etc. -Not having enough/any information on product/services pages. -Not having specific calls to action at every juncture on a website. This means that every caller outside of New Jersey will be rerouted to the local, state-approved addiction assistance center. In addition, each state will now have a single help number that they can easily market and include in advertisements during sports events.  Next up, Ohio is taking its time with the legalization of sports betting. The launch of the sports wagering program in the Buckeye state is already taking longer than in any of the neighboring states. The state lawmakers have set the launch deadline for January 1, 2023, exactly 374 days after Governor Mike DeWine signed the bill on December 23, 2021.The holdup is mainly due to the bureaucracy issues, but also the fact that there are a lot of conflicting interests, as many players want a cut of the $3.35 billion in estimated yearly revenue. Furthermore, multiple agencies regulating the industry have slowed the timeline, too. However, Ohio bettors remain hopeful that they will be able to place their first wagers at the start of the new year.  In our next story, a new major industry player is entering the Canadian sports betting market. NorthStar Bets has officially launched its online casino and sportsbook in the Ontario market. For the launch, North Star Gaming has partnered up with Playtech, which will provide live casino services and its IMS platform. Both companies are hoping that this partnership will allow them to gain a firm foothold in the north of the continent and become a leader in the Canadian iGaming market. For Playtech, the agreement comes on the heels of a very profitable year, mainly due to their successful B2B operations. Besides the Northstar partnership, the company has struck a deal with Caliente which should help them increase their presence in the Mexican market. In our last story this week, casino giant BetMGM has announced an agreement with PokerGo which involves the final table of the BetMGM Poker Championship and the $25K freeroll tournament. The gaming brand of MGM entertainment and the largest poker provider in the world have agreed to bring the finishing stage of the Championship to the PokerGo Studio at the ARIA Resort & Casino.The final table will feature the six players and take place on Sunday, June 26, during the ARIA Poker Classic. The PokerGo will also host a $25K No-limit Hold'em freeroll which will involve BetMGM Championship online qualifiers. The buy-in for the first-ever poker championship organized by BetMGM is $3,500 while the total guaranteed prize pool is worth $1 million.

Miss Nikki teaches fifth grade English Language Arts at Bedminster Township School District. She graduated from Washington College in 2002 as a triple major in English, education, and gender studies. She earned a Masters of Science in Education from Monmouth University and has a Reading Specialist certification. Nicole has served as a member of Bedminster Township School's Gifted & Talented Advisory Council, Technology Committee, Teacher of the Year Committee, and English & Language Arts Literacy Curriculum Committee; she also led the faculty's professional book club.  Nicole has presented various workshops both in and out of New Jersey on technology, building students' passion for reading, motivating reluctant readers, battling mental health stigmas through books, and engagement. The lecture has dominated instructional practice for several centuries. In the last few decades, though, the lecture mode of instruction has often been criticized by advocates of active learning approaches. In this episode, Dr. Christine Harrington joins us to discuss evidence on the effectiveness of lectures and how we can create lectures that better support student learning. Christine is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at New Jersey City University and the author of Dynamic Lecturing and several other books related to teaching, learning, and student success. Christine has been the Executive Director of the Student Success Center at the New Jersey Council of County Colleges.
