What you think of yourself is directly correlated with the kind of man you are or will become. If you believe yourself to be a victim of circumstances beyond your control, you will be. If, alternatively, you believe the world is conspiring for your benefit, it will be. It is quite literally self-fulfilling prophesy. My guest today, Jay Jairdullo, knows exactly what this is like after spending 25 years in law enforcement and now a college wrestling coach, he has had to redefine himself over and over again. Today, Jay and I talk about what he calls “false masculinity,” avoiding slipping back into old patterns, the importance of core values, overcoming the victimhood mentality, and keeping yourself and others off pedestals you don't belong. In May 1990, then-unknown 21-year-old Mariah Carey released her debut single, “Vision of Love.” Within a handful of weeks, the song would hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts, and it would be followed by four additional No. 1 tracks, setting records and making it clear: Mariah Carey and her five-octave vocal range were here, and pop music would never sound the same. Mariah had No. 1 singles every year for the entire 1990s. She would go on to win numerous Grammys, be named Artist of the Decade by Billboard, and receive other accolades. Her career has had peaks and valleys, scandals and rebrandings, but there is no denying: Mariah Carey is one of the most important recording artists of the last 40 years, and one of the most incredible voices in the history of popular music. So join the Great Pop Culture Debate as we hit the highest of the highs as we determine the Best Mariah Carey Song – at least until mid-2025, when we're recording this. There Is Still a Vision. Habakkuk is a prophet with writer's block – he does not have a word from the Lord or from the distant battlefield, and that's making him antsy. He climbs the ramparts of Jerusalem's wall to scan the horizon, trusting that a runner will come. And instead, he gets a word from the Lord, kinda: “Wait, and listen, and trust that I've got something in mind, and it'll be good.” Tomás Halík has said that faith is trust + patience. This week on VOMAus Radio, hear from Brother Bayram, who came to the US from Türkiye to further his education. He started a business, where one day a Christian customer gave him a New Testament. He began to read it, the beginning of a path that would lead him to faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and the Son of God. It was a costly decision: his devout Muslim wife divorced him and wouldn't allow him to see their daughter. His brother had Bayram committed to a mental hospital, thinking anyone who would leave Islam was mentally unstable. It has been a difficult road, but Bayram's faith has only grown stronger as he has seen God work in his life and his country. Bayram will encourage and instruct listeners on how we can help lead Muslims toward Christ, wherever they are. You can connect online with Brother Bayram and his ministry at www.albtci.org.
"If you want to experience the life of Jesus, you have to adopt the lifestyle of Jesus."John Mark concludes the Vision series with a pastoral word on hurry, unpacking how hurry does violence to the soul, erodes our capacity for transformation, and why following Jesus requires us to slow down and adopt his lifestyle, not just his teachings.Key Scripture Passages: Matthew 11v28–30; Luke 10v38–42This podcast and its episodes are paid for by The Circle, our community of monthly givers. Join Kosta and his guest: Dr. Alissa Hudson, Ophthalmologist and Owner of Middle Tennessee Eye. In this episode: I think we can all agree, there's only one place we can start this episode - and it's inside an eyeball. We all have eyes, but most of us have no idea how they work or why they don't work correctly. So, I hope it's not too much to ask: how do our eyes work? You're an Ophthalmologist specialising in refractive surgery like LASIK and multifocal cataract surgery. I've had LASIK and it's truly incredible. How did you get into this specialization and how has refractive surgery changed vision care overall? This is switching gears, and I'm only asking because I know people who go years, sometimes decades without getting an eye exam. How often should we be coming in? Most entrepreneurs start out thinking they need a logo and a website. But branding goes so much deeper—it's about shaping perception, standing out, and creating an authentic identity that attracts the right people. In this episode, I sit down with Re Perez, a global branding expert and the founder of Branding for the People. Re's story is incredible—he went from corporate branding in New York to launching his own agency, betting on himself with no list, no audience, and still pulling off a six-figure event right out of the gate.We dive into:The “aha” moment when Re realized he wasn't meant for corporate politics and took the leap into entrepreneurship. How he launched his agency by charging bold prices and enrolling people into his vision—even when others said it wouldn't work. Why his book “Your Brand Should Be Gay (Even If You're Not)” challenges the way we think about authenticity and boldness in branding. The difference between just having a business and actually building a brand that pulls in your dream clients. Why being polarizing can be one of the most powerful branding tools you have. His favorite case studies, from small LSAT prep companies to multi-location businesses that scaled massively because of branding clarity. And finally, how he's now helping entrepreneurs build not just one brand, but an ecosystem of brands in the era of AI. This conversation isn't just about branding—it's about courage, clarity, and betting on yourself. Re's journey is packed with lessons every entrepreneur can apply right now.Key TakeawaysBranding is not your logo—it's the perception people have about you before you even walk in the room. Not everyone is meant to be your client, and that's okay.Authenticity and boldness will push some people away but pull the right people toward you.Vision + execution beats waiting until you “feel ready.”
When the world feels fractured by violence, division, and fear, where can we place our hope? In Revelation 7:9–17, we're given a heavenly vision: a countless, multi-ethnic multitude gathered before the throne of Jesus, unified in worship. This is not just a future reality—it shapes our calling now: to resist fear, love our neighbor, and live as a diverse, unified family of faith.

The message was delivered on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Nicole Kirk, Program Minister. DESCRIPTION: What happens when midnight falls across a nation's soul, and darkness seems so deep we can barely see which way to turn? An ancient parable about a friend's desperate knock at midnight becomes a powerful lens for understanding our current moment—where fear builds, divisions widen, and people push one another away. Yet in this darkness comes an urgent plea not for simple charity, but for something far more transformative: the bread of love that affirms every person's worth and dignity. From the 1963 March on Washington to an 80-year-old woman's determined climb up 342 steps to the crown of the Statue of Liberty, discover how ordinary people make extraordinary choices to unfold their hearts rather than fold them closed. When the world profits from our isolation and feeds on our fear, what does it mean to choose unfolding as the ultimate act of resistance? What does it mean to truly thrive as a leader? Rand Selig, veteran investment banker and founder of Selig Capital Group, shares how he left Wall Street to design a firm—and a life—built on intention. By limiting his clients to five at a time, he created space to be present with family, serve his community, and still build an award-winning company.Rand highlights the difference between management and leadership. Management is about efficiency, but leadership ensures the ladder is leaning against the right wall. Leaders articulate the “why” that inspires people and then step aside to let talent thrive. His four career sabbaticals also reconnected him with purpose and prevented burnout.True leadership means living by values, not external expectations. Are you climbing the right wall? Do your people feel they get to work or that they have to? Thriving personally allows us to create the conditions for others to thrive as well.

// LOVING + LIFE-GIVING PEOPLE // In week 2 of our “Becoming our Vision” series, Zach unpacks the first part of our statement, “Loving, Life-Giving People.” In a culture where love is reduced to a feeling and life giving people are sometimes hard to come by, we want our students to love regardless of feelings and bring life to every place they go. This sermon invites our students to take inventory of their people and places and encourages them to love and bring life to all of them.
