We present our review of Karate Kid: Legends! Karate Kid: Legends is a 2025 American martial arts drama film directed by Jonathan Entwistle and written by Rob Lieber. It is the sixth film in The Karate Kid franchise, serving as a continuation of The Karate Kid (2010) and the television series Cobra Kai (2018–2025). It stars Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, both reprising their roles from the franchise, while introducing Ben Wang as the main lead alongside Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. It is the first film in the series not to be produced by Jerry Weintraub, who died in 2015.The film was confirmed to be in development in September 2022, with Entwistle set to direct and Lieber set to write the screenplay in November 2023. Casting took place from November 2023 to April 2024. Principal photography took place from April to June 2024.Karate Kid: Legends premiered at the Cinépolis Mitikah in Mexico City, Mexico on May 7, 2025, and was released in the United States by Sony Pictures Releasing on May 30. The success of the latest Final Destination movie is one of the biggest surprises of the first part of the year. Even more shocking is a reported incident from Argentina that is one of the truest cases of life imitating art ever seen. Deadly truth, false internet reporting, or best marketing ever? We finally saw our first look at the It prequel series Welcome to Derry and neither of us were particularly impressed. Of course, we will be watching the HBO Max show, but the trailer was very disappointing. It as a little too familiar. That being said, we have high hopes for the show's potential.We have championed indie horror on our humble little podcast for years. And since we have watched so many small budget films, we understand some of the constraints that come with them. Production values are lower, actors are not as well known, and there is less access to resources. Knowing this, we adjust our expectations and are willing to give the benefit of the doubt.One thing we will not forgive is poor writing. A Hard Place is a decent enough idea. Criminals are caught in the middle of a war between two monster factions. There is just so much going on that nothing leaves an impact. Add in the fact that none of the many characters are developed and the end result is a film that feels pointless.For years, people have complained about the number of remakes and superhero movies. “We want new stuff!” they all scream. This is not limited to a vocal minority. Critics include it in reviews, film fans discuss it while trying to figure out their best Wes Anderson movie, and even the average person on the street has strong feelings about the topic.And then a movie like Companion comes along. Topical, cast filled with young stars, and a director working on his first feature film. And nobody went to see it. But maybe it wasn't that good? We talk about the performances, themes, and tone while trying to figure out why no one went out to see a movie that was exactly what they wanted. Rumors and leaks from Spider-Man 4, Avengers Doomsday & Secret Wars, and Fantastic Four paint a very dour picture as Feige and his MCUnderlings JUST realized this week that they might have a creative quality issue and not just a production timing/quantity issue. With Andor's strong reception and good hype surrounding Gunn's upcoming Superman film, Marvel and the MCU are in danger of falling from their perch above Nerd fandom and I am beginning to doubt if Feige can do the one thing he needs to in order to get back on track -- make a good movie THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT TO SEE.Ball don't lie my friends and right now the MCU has zero game.

Cuba embraced American comics from the very beginning. And artists eventually created their own uniquely Cuban superheroes. Geoffroy de Laforcade charts the rich history of Cuban comics and shares his favorite comic book artists in Cuba today. Later in the show: Sara Reed looks at domestic advice in popular Cuban magazines before and after the 1959 revolution. She says the role of women within the family underwent big changes as Cuba became communist state. Plus: Nestled in the Cuban countryside is a community called La Picadora. It draws tourists from all over the world to learn about sustainable farming. Krystyn Moon says their sustainability practices were born out of economic crisis.
