It's Marvel Monday and Wakanda faces its greatest challenge yet! ABOUT BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER The people of Wakanda fight to protect their home from intervening world powers as they mourn the death of King T'Challa. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER November 11, 2022 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Director: Ryan Coogler Writers: Ryan Coogler, Joe Robert Cole, Stan Lee Cast: Letitia Wright as Shuri Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia Danai Gurira as Okoye Angela Bassett as Ramonda BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS T'Challa, the Black Panther himself, is suffering from a terminal illness. His sister, Shuri, believes the heart-shaped herb that gives the Black Panther his powers could save him, but the herb was destroyed. Shuri desperately tries to recreate it synthetically, but she can't do it in time, and T'Challa dies. A year later, Wakanda is facing pressure from countries around the world to share its vibranium. Other nations are even trying to break in and steal it! Queen Ramonda encourages Shuri to continue working on the heart-shaped herb so they can create a new Black Panther to help protect Wakanda, but Shuri says she doesn't think Wakanda needs a Black Panther. A U.S. expedition team is using a vibranium detector when they get a hit beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Before they can recover it, they are attacked and killed by a group of blue-skinned, water-breathing beings and their sound weapons. They are led by someone named Namor. Only knowing about the vibranium detection, the CIA thinks it must've been Wakanda. Namor shows up to confront Ramonda and Shuri. He gives them an ultimatum: hand over the scientist who created the detector to get them off his back or else he will attack Wakanda. Shuri and Okoye learn from CIA Agent Ross that the scientist who created said detector is someone named Riri Williams. Riri turns out to be just an MIT student. They track her down at the university, but before they can get her to safety, they are pursued by the FBI and Namor's warriors. Shuri is taken underwater to meet with Namor who shows her his home and what makes it so special. Namor explains that he has grown bitter toward the surface world because of the slavery and genocide suffered by his people. He proposes that Wakanda join him in an alliance against the rest of the world, while threatening to destroy Wakanda if they refuse. Shuri and Riri are rescued but two of Namor's guards are killed in the process. He's not pleased and Namor attacks Wakanda. During the attack, Queen Ramonda dies and Namor vows to return with his entire army. Shuri discovers that she can use a remnant of the herb that gave Namor's people their superhuman abilities to recreate the heart-shaped herb. She takes it herself and gains the powers of the Black Panther. Shuri returns wearing a new Black Panther suit and is accepted by the other tribes as the new Black Panther. Shuri is determined to get revenge on Namor for killing her mom. The battle begins and Shuri manages to trap Namor and make him weaker. The two eventually crash onto a desert beach and fight one-on-one. Shuri gains the upper hand, but she has a vision of Ramonda, who reminds her to choose a better path. Instead of killing Namor, Shuri offers him a chance to surrender and form a peaceful alliance. Namor accepts, ending the battle. Shuri plants more heart-shaped herbs to ensure that the Black Panther mantle will survive into the future. While she is away, M'Baku challenges for the throne of Wakanda. Shuri then travels to Haiti to visit Nakia. There, she burns her funeral robe, finally allowing herself to grieve for T'Challa and honoring Ramonda's wishes. Shuri learns that Nakia and T'Challa secretly had a son, whom Nakia has been raising in Haiti. Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show? There are many myths that surround people with a schizophrenia diagnosis. Some examples of these myths are that people with schizophrenia have multiple personalities, that those with schizophrenia are dangerous and need to be hospitalized permanently, or that schizophrenia is caused by childhood abuse. None of these are true. Schizophrenia spectrum disorder is one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions. Dispelling these myths is crucial for reducing stigma. Host Rachel Star Withers, a diagnosed schizophrenic, and co-host Gabe Howard break down the common myths surrounding schizophrenia and how to respond when you hear them, in this episode of Inside Schizophrenia. Guest Kit Wallis, who goes by SchizoKitzo, joins later in the show. She is a content creator who advocates for schizoaffective and bipolar disorders. Kit was diagnosed with the bipolar type of schizoaffective disorder in late 2020, but has been managing symptoms since she was in middle school. The mission of SchizoKitzo is to raise awareness of schizoaffective disorder and all of its aspects, from the mood side to the psychotic side. Guest Bio: Kit Wallis, who goes by SchizoKitzo, is a content creator who advocates for schizoaffective and bipolar disorders. She uses long-form videos on her YouTube channel and short-form content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Her content centers around her personal experience with schizoaffective disorder and often includes deep dives into research topics regarding mental health. Kit was diagnosed with the bipolar type of schizoaffective disorder in late 2020 and has struggled with symptoms since she was in middle school. Schizoaffective disorder is a mental health condition where someone experiences symptoms of schizophrenia–such as delusions and hallucinations–but also symptoms of a mood disorder–either major depression or, in Kit's case, bipolar. The mission of SchizoKitzo is to raise awareness of schizoaffective disorder and all of its aspects, from the mood side to the psychotic side. Kit works to bridge the gap between life and science so she can help break the stigma around mental health. Send us a Question!REBROADCAST MOVIE DISCUSSION: Melvin & Dan can only agree on one thing: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is, in fact, a Marvel movie. To focus their attention, Melvin proposes four ambitions that he feels will make-or-break the film for audience members. (originally released November 16th, 2022)Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 44-minutes discussing Kevin Conroy's passing, Video Rental store nostalgia, and media curation (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) Melvin liked that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had a somewhat self-serious profile as opposed to the more flippant, light sensibilities of other Marvel fare. However, Melvin has four headers - ambitions - that he observed within Black Panther: Wakanda Forever that he felt prevented him from "buying in" to the fiction of the film but may actually be beneficial qualities to certain audience members. His first point covers the film's global stage for a political drama between potentially warring counties. His second point covers the personal character stories within the film. A brief aside from the points, Melvin and Daniel agree: the suits at the end of the movie aren't that good. Melvin's third point has to do with the film's metatextual pairing of T'Challa's fictional death and Chadwick Boseman's real-life death. Melvin's final point covers what he would consider inefficient pacing, such as scenes clearly setting up future movies, or scenes having only one purpose at a time rather than being dynamic in detail. Doomwar is a 2010 miniseries in which Dr. Doom sponsors a coup in Wakanda in order to get his hands on all the country's processed vibranium. As we continue to celebrate 60 years of the Black Panther, Tim is joined by Professor Alan, whose Doomspeak podcast celebrates Dr. Doom, a character who will be cinematically very relevant in a few short months! With writing by Jonathan Maberry and art by Scot Eaton, Doomwar is a series that raises a number of questions, whether in the text itself or simply in the minds of reviewers: In what circumstances is a violent response justified? How violent? Should superhero comics, which run on their own progression of time, bring in real-life U.S. Presidents and significant events? While an issue cover with a spoiler may be justified for marketing that issue, should it really be included in the trade?
This week, we bounce from questionable kindergarten teaching techniques and a tour through old movies to a pile of upcoming sci-fi and superhero projects. Then, in Future or Now, AI gives hurricane forecasters a potentially huge advantage, NASA pulls off another bit of engineering wizardry to keep Voyager 2 alive, and the cast of The Pitt boldly goes where plenty of actors have gone before. Real Life Steven is officially over summer. Heat, summer schedules, summer in general—it's time to move on. Meanwhile, Ben has been watching OLD MOVIES, including Kindergarten Cop. Ben calls it an "exceptional film," but watching Arnold Schwarzenegger take control of a classroom in 2026 raises some questions. How would Detective John Kimble's teaching methods stack up against modern school employee safety training? How many policies would he violate before lunch? And perhaps most unsettling: just how old are all those kindergarteners today? That sends us down the inevitable road of examining an old movie through the lens of people who now have entirely too much experience with how schools actually operate. Steven also has a pile of upcoming genre television and movie news to talk about. Neuromancer is headed to Apple TV, while Blade Runner 2099 is coming as a limited series on Prime Video. San Diego Comic-Con also brought news about Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3, along with more X-Men casting news involving Cyclops, Emma Frost, Beast, and Professor X. Trailer Links: Neuromancer: Watch on YouTube Blade Runner 2099: Watch on YouTube Devon has been doing some family movie watching, working through the Jumanji movies and eventually arriving at Zathura. Technically part of the larger Jumanji family, Zathura doesn't quite live up to its predecessor. It doesn't help that Dax Shepard's character has to exist in the shadow of Robin Williams, which leads to the assessment that Shepard comes across as "a block of wood" by comparison. Things get considerably darker with The Long Walk, based on Stephen King's novel originally published under his Richard Bachman pseudonym. Devon found the adaptation interesting and well done—but extremely bleak. That conversation somehow takes a detour through Time Runner before eventually landing on Hokum and its supernatural layer. Future or Now AI Gets Better at Predicting Hurricanes Ben brings us a potentially enormous development in weather forecasting. Google DeepMind's WeatherNext AI system has demonstrated an ability to improve hurricane forecasts, potentially giving forecasters and emergency planners an additional day of warning. The system predicts both storm tracks and intensity and can rapidly generate thousands of possible scenarios. During Hurricane Melissa, it reportedly identified major intensification earlier than conventional forecasting models. That's potentially life-saving extra time for communities preparing for a major storm. But there's an interesting wrinkle: like many sophisticated AI systems, exactly how the model reaches some of its conclusions isn't always clear to the scientists using it. That makes WeatherNext another fascinating example of AI producing useful results while simultaneously raising questions about how much we need to understand a system before we're comfortable relying on it. And despite the improvement in modeling, humans aren't leaving the process. Meteorologists still have to interpret the information, communicate uncertainty, and turn forecasts into useful warnings for the public. Read the Ars Technica report on DeepMind's hurricane forecasting breakthrough This Week in Space: Voyager's "Big Bang" Nearly half a century after leaving Earth, Voyager 2 is still going, and NASA engineers are once again finding creative ways to keep it alive. In an operation nicknamed the "Big Bang," engineers simultaneously shut down power-hungry hardware and transitioned to lower-power alternatives while carefully keeping the spacecraft warm enough to survive. Voyager's dwindling power supply has forced NASA to make increasingly difficult decisions about which systems can remain operational, making every additional bit of usable energy precious. It's another remarkable chapter in a mission launched in 1977 that is still returning scientific data from interstellar space. Read more about the Voyager 2 operation at ScienceDaily Explore NASA's Voyager mission And while we're talking about space, we check back in on New Asgard and ask the important question: is Devon still going to space? The Pitt Goes to Star Trek Finally, there's an unusual crossover coming for fans of The Pitt and Star Trek. Noah Wyle and members of The Pitt cast are participating in a Star Trek table read benefiting the Writers Guild Foundation. It's not a new Trek series and it's not some bizarre medical-drama crossover episode—but it is an opportunity to hear a completely different cast tackle Star Trek material while supporting the foundation's programs. Read more about The Pitt cast's Star Trek table read at TrekMovie From aging action comedies to AI-powered hurricane forecasts and a spacecraft that refuses to die, this week is a reminder that the future has a funny way of colliding with the past. Join us next time for more science, sci-fi, and whatever unexpected detours we stumble into along the way.

On the homefront, Robbie advocates for his buddy Claude, Art looks forward to the next iteration of Blade Runner, and Jay reads a book in a new genre the kids call LitRPG, and the one he picked is coming to Peacock. In 1981, members of radical offshoots of the Weather Underground and the Black Panthers robbed a Brinks truck carrying over $1.5 million. It ended in a shootout, killing two police officers and a security guard. Judith Clark was driving a getaway car. She was sentenced to a minimum of 75 years. Her 11-month-old daughter was left to be raised by Judith's collective and later by Judith's parents. Terry Gross talks with her daughter, Harriet Clark, whose new acclaimed novel is drawn from childhood experiences visiting her mother in prison. “I think she figured out how to mother me in some of the most difficult conditions possible,” she says.
